I have started a few threads in the time I've been here, and I have to say, the number of 'hits' they've got is far less important to me than the content of the discussion they engendered. To be concerned with 'stats' seems a very self-centred view of this board if you don't mind me saying so.

Maria can speak for herself, but being referred to as 'my star poster' would really piss me off. (Mick Jagger once referred to Charlie Watts as 'my drummer' and Watts punched him in the face for saying it.)

BTW. In my experience, hanging out with ITYIWT has a lot to be said for it.

I'm really more concerned that Lakey's upset than whether I am upset or offended.

I scrolled back to see where Trouble may have upset Lakey or said something less than nice. I did not see anything offensive or mean. Although, yes, by his/her remark encouraging me to post on other threads as well: all I saw was the joke to me about graduating from the thread. (Not addressed to Lakey.) In my reply, by emeritus I only meant honored retired professor... and since I was retired, i.e., did not post for a few days, it fit. An emeritus is appointed for life to that honorable title. I feel I am a life member here, so I replied that way.
I didn't mean to say I was abandoning the thread. I have to assume Trouble and Lakey had some other run-in (details of which I am unaware) from before I joined the forum?

Ditto Gizmo and Lakey throwing jabs yesterday. Gizmo, sarcastic as usual, made a joke and I joked back.
Lakey did not see the humor, as Gizmo proceeded to jab at him on the heels of that.

No harm done to me in any of this but I hope Lakey feels better today.

There is magic in the words "FUCK IT". Profanity, contrary to prudish belief, is language adults use to express explosively negative feelings about whatever. Fuck works where nothing else can express complete disdain in such a short space. It is the single most expressive word in the entire English language. It can actually mean almost ANYTHING depending on context and inflection. It can equally well express positive feelings of amazement or delight. It is one syllable of concentrated expressiveness. I use it a bit promiscuously I admit, but fuck it. Who gives a fuck? What the fuck business is it of anyfuckingbody to tell you how the fuck to be or not to be exactly who and what the fuck you want? And if you really internalize it you can say it the southern way "well bless her heart" and be sure you got it across that the person can fuck off and die.

When I have no Digi-tuner, I just grab an A from wherever I can get one (usually the piano) and then use the harmonic resonance method.

Anecdote time:
Our new saxophonist (awesome guy, extremely skilled and talented, had even worked with Elvis in his younger days) had never seen me without my tuner before - so he believed I needed that thing. Then, one day, while setting up for a gig, I opened my case and: "Damn, my tuner's at home in the other case". E-piano wasn't wired yet, but our guitarist was already wired, tuned and ready to go. So I said: "Hey man, I forgot my tuner, so please gimme an A." Less than a minute later, my bass was perfectly in tune. The Saxophonist had watched me in amazement the whole time, since he's never seen me use this method before and I gained a whole new level of respect from him because I knew how to use this super-precise tuning method.

Harmonic resonance tuning can easily compete with electronic tuners or even outrank 'em. I love that method, but in a loud and hectic environment, I still prefer the digi-tuners.

Horn and reed players always tune that way. You get a reference tone and lengthen or shorten the air column to match. I'm surprised your Sax player was surprised. He must never have been in marching band like most brass and reed players in the US.

As regards ITYIWT, I used to kid her that her icon reminds me of the 1950's movie "The Bad Seed" staring a young child star name Patty McCormick, I believe. Basically, she did not like me much because I was asserting pretty strongly that some of Hubbard's tech still had workability.

She and Roger, who posted here did not mix well, always on the opposite sides of almost every issue. Roger was a regular here and he started going after me on ridiculous topics. I was remarking about how many tall building Shanghai China had, saying they now had more tall building than Chicago and well over half of what New York City had. He just ripped me for my statement on that trivial issue. I sent him a Wikepedia article listing the tallest buildings in Shanghai and he would not even look at it. The last straw was when he sided with someone known as AT on every single issue which AT was challenging me on. He also was not getting along with CO2. It became apparent to me, he wanted me, CO2, and this thread to be gone from ESMB.

Finally I snapped. I knew just the exact words to use to stop him from posting here. It was a word clause with no profanity. It started out, You are being very ....... The last word was a standard English word with a negative connotation. I knew that if I wrote that sentence to him, he would stop posting on this thread. I wrote it and he stopped posting iimmediately.

BTW, I have also said that he is a very intelligent and professional type poster. I recommend him as someone to be read only I just didn't want him posting here anymore.

Well when I said what I did to Roger, ITYIWT, PMed me with a complimentary post and we dialogued for a while and then she moved on. You will find her often on the Hell of a Hoax side of ESMB. She used to be a big fan of his and others of his ilk. I lost touch with her at least 2 1/2 years ago. She is a very nice person.

Give up the Merlot and switch to Pinot Noir (NOT the pedestrian white Pinot Grigio). Sideways was right because Paul Giamatti is one of my favorite actors. There is a new appellation for Pinot that is awesome. The Carneros District in southern Sonoma County has been developing for the last 15 years or so. The advantage for Pinot is that it borders SF bay and thus has cooling fog in the summer that wouldn't reach if they were 5 miles north. It's why Napa Pinot sucks and coastal Sonoma Pinot can be sublime.

You have a nice thread. It is no cut on you that some hits were from google bots. All threads have that. Cheer up. I just felt embarrassed a bit over the compliments. And did not realize you were drinking. I do appreciate being well thought of. I am sorry for any misunderstanding.

About responding to visitors on your thread, I try to talk to everyone and be nice to everyone here. If I posted a recipe it was for everyone.

Thanks Maria, you do a great job on this thread, you have been a great asset for me and the thread in general. The whole misunderstanding started when I gave you two compliments and you rejected them. I came to some sort of conclusion about why you rejected my compliments and based on that conclusion, which turned out to be wrong, I basically "went off the deep end" and did a bunch of silly posting to get even with you.

I drowned my sorrows in a bottle of Merlot. I don't drink much so a full bottle, made my act silly. I had a little hanover this morning so I am eating a hearty breaifast eggs with a side of meat, some toast, lightly buttered, and a strong cup of Columbian coffee.

My post wasn't meant as an incitement to violence Maria (and perhaps at this point, since we are discussing alchohol and hangovers, I should point out that your surname is of course the name of a very famous spirit, the only type of alchoholic drink that didn't give me an instant migraine headache when I imbibed it or, even after consuming what would be considered a fairly large amount, cause me to turn into an incoherent or violent individual). I just loved Tequila!

Now where was I. Oh yes, pissed in the UK means intoxicated by alchohol, but pissed off means annoyed or angry. What Jagger had consumed the night Watts punched him, or how much, I'm afraid I have no idea.

One anecdote relates that during the mid-1980s, an intoxicated Jagger phoned Watts' hotel room in the middle of the night asking "Where's my drummer?". Watts reportedly got up, shaved, dressed in a suit, put on a tie and freshly shined shoes, descended the stairs, and punched Jagger in the face, saying: "Don't ever call me your drummer again. Oh, so my post must really have been hard to understand. OK, so let me explain: When I'm tuning a string, I don't care about the base frequency of that tone. I focus on periodic harmonic disturbances in the higher frequency spectrum of that tone.

Here's a German video where this method, in German called Flageolett-tones, is explained. You may not understand the language, but the concept should be obvious and audible from minute 2:00 ff.

NO offense, but when I was a programmer if I even got something less than 1% off the entire software didn't work and so the result was 100% off.

Not that it matters, but usually what I love most about posting is when I have interesting weird or different thoughts than usual based on reading someone's post...and then if that inspires me tow write a thought which also strikes me as something that hadn't occurred to me. I enjoy the forum for learning and thinking and don't really care about the stats. For example, yesterday when Terril spoke a few pages back of OT2 and the way that a word's meaning is contextual, according to Hubbard no less. Thus the relativity of a word's meaning, even in Scn. I hope he says more about that.

You benefit from my posting because I overpost a bit since I post as I think and type very fast. That could be viewed as my being too talky or spammy and less so as a good stat. Maybe a bad one instead.

For example, no one ever responsed to some posts I made about John Nash...but I feel that my posts were good and I sometimes reread my last one. So that for me is more important than if I posted 5 times. The one nice post was more valuable than 5 bad ones. My upstat to use that word was the welll written single post. Not the any number of sort of boring posts I might have made here or there in between. The upstat is the qualify for me not the quantity.

The stats are the stats. 2M views (including bots) still somewhat compares to other threads because the other threads are also undergoing the same views + bots. If you are trying to compare. The thing is that some threads have very important info and are worth revisiting to read, even if they were only 2-3 pages long. I am still lurking threads from 2009. And the reason is not that they had lots of posts but because of what they contain in terms of information.

It's probably more that the thread is on its death bed. You know as does everyone else that I live for stats, especially the stats on this thread. I thought we had over 2 million hits. Come on, give me a break, Moderator 3 tells the the stat is a chimera, a fake illusion and most of these 2 million post are not real posts. 22,400 replies, also no big deal- between CO2 and me, we posted about 1/2 of those ourselves. I'm like Obama with Obama Care, I thought my legacy was secured and now I find out that I have no legacy, it was all an illusion created by Hackers.

I'm only human, of course I am upset. Fighting all those battles with detractors over stats that weren't even true. Fighting over fake stats, losing good friends over fake stats. Of course I'm upset. Any rational person would be upset if this happened to them.

Now that the stats are fake we can probably move onto the content that we were discussing when the compliment bombs started. I saw that what you were complementing before was the way I defended Carmelo for not 'disconnecting' from a friend just because the friend was a still-in. You liked the post and said it was my best. Thank you for that. I do think I did a wonderful job of explaining why it's ridiculous to make someone out the bad guy for refusing to disconnect. it was actually a series of my posts that created the little domino effect.

Especially funny since disconnection is a policy highly criticized by all of us. So to be upset with an ex because they won't disconnect and then to disconnect from that ex....is well weird...
If I say so myself I did create a nice little black hole for the wandering arguer to fall into there. That by the way is called Socratic elenchus. Or dialectic. Not the Hegelian version. Socrates' version is MUCH more fun. It took six years of college to learn that trick. I have used it here before but no one noticed at that time. Not to be mean or tricky, just because...well, a logical fallacy is so much fun to play with, to let the originator of the confusion own his own confusion.

I wasn't talking about beats per second, I was talking about periodic harmonic disturbances.

Yes, I learned that the hard way when I first started to try and tune a keyboard instrument naively omitting the 5 or maybe it was 7 Hz beats required between some intervals (sorry, I've forgotten the tech now). Also, the further up the keyboard you go the sharper these intervals should become and vice-versa I believe.

You sent it, he received your recipe and told you that he made it and liked it. No one else complimented you on how good the recipe came out. You might just as well have PMed it to Gizmo. he is the only one who responded and actually made the recipe.

Why would you send it to one person? Gizmo is a him, you are a her, there was some talk of love being expressed by both parties. It's not rocket science to see something MIGHT be there. You know, they say that where there's smoke there must be fire. I really don/t know if that is true or not, its none of my business. I was just saying....just kind of putting two plus two together and everyone knows that I am smarter than the average bear when it comes to math....... I'm just saying, just taking this all in.

I , like many others, read a recipe on this thread. That is true.

I did not make that recipe or say I made it.

I don't see how I could have said I liked it when there was no way to taste it.

Now, as for the poster Maria ? I like her. I also like Cat's Squirrel. I also like Gib. I also like Mr. Nobody. I also like a host of other posters.

Lord knows what heinous crime I have been proven guilty of by saying I like people - hey am I about to be banished for liking people ?
