Marty Rathbun raises his head, and starts squawking

So I gather that in Pt. 16, according to what Haggis said on Tony's blog, Haggis may not have told Wright that it was Marty who asked Haggis to give Beghe a break and hire him? So Haggis altered the story when telling Wright. Maybe he wanted to boost Beghe's ego a little, and not have him find out he was a pity hire, hired as a favor to Marty. Or, Haggis may have thought he was keeping Marty's secret, for the same reason, to protect Beghe's fragile (at the time) ego.

I can see how this would burn Marty's butt,

I can't. Why would Rathbun care unless he has some other agenda?

but this is really minor and inconsequential.

Yes, like nearly everything so far in this series. What is Rathbun's point with all of this...is he saying that Wright's book is completely made up?

I don't understand why finding a sentence every dozen pages and arguing about it accomplishes. I could pick any many nonfiction book off the bookshelf and put it under a microscope and find some detail that could be taken another way, reinterpreted, analyzed in light of facts not available at the time the book was published, or in conflict with something someone else said.

Here, I just plucked "A World at Arms" off my shelf. It's a standard, respected WWII history by Dr. Gerhard Weinberg, a U-North Carolina professor. Random page (424), random sentence: "Beginning on September 12 and continuing thereafter, plans were developed for an operation code-named Uranus which looked to a very different form of defense for the city." (Referring to the Red Army and Stalingrad).

- Very different? That's subjective.

- Plans were developed? Maybe they were only slightly modified. Maybe the plan was dusted off from previous consideration. Maybe they were evolved rather than developed.

- According to Wikipedia, Operation Uranus was a larger plan to encircle the German Sixth Army, not solely to defend Stalingrad.

I can almost hear Rathbun's voice. First there's the faux shock, and the blinking eyes. Then: "False. Didn't happen. False narrative Mimesis culture".

You mean Ray J., Monique's attorney, was paid off by Scientology to pretend they were dismissed from the case by Monique, left high and dry on their contingency percentage and say, "Gee, we don't even know why. We thought the case was going well"? Monique was made to say, "We had differences. They weren't acting in our interests."

Wouldn't that be very illegal for Ray J. to do that, accept a deal outside the court? Maybe not.

It was one of my first thoughts, if they could do that. Seems like the best solution all around. The cult could drop $10M on Ray J., $3M on Marty and in that way not be risking anything. However, if that all happened, why couldn't they just have Marty agree not to be in any future cases against Scientology? Why this set of videos which just makes it look like Marty is being paid off to do this?

I suppose it could be Marty dead-agenting himself, because it's something Miscavige wanted him to do to make people think he's nuts or an irrational flip-flopper.
What you are missing is WHY Marty is doing this. Marty is preparing his own DEAD AGENT PACK to discredit all of the information he leaked when he was on the right side (us Ex Scientologist's)

Miscavige is dictating what he is to do in exchange for a large settlement.

The videos are for other Scientologist's to watch if they happen to find Marty's BLOG or something Marty wrote when he was OUT-OUT.

Others have written about this behavior when a High Ranking Scientology Official blows the cult and David Miscavige harasses them to recant everything they say....by the use of BRIBERY and EXTORTION folks!

The videos are not for US - they are for Scientology and Scientologist's who may have gotten into doubt by reading one of Marty's books or watched "Squirrel Busters" etc and the other shit load of stuff he has done that were very effective blows to the cult.

The videos will satisfy the "Scientologist in doubt" very quickly - they will not DIG into it - because they will be left to watch his videos and will cognite quickly that "oh - Marty made all that up because he was trying to make money off of Scientology - or whatever spin Scientology / David Miscavige puts on it.

This is not complicated....When it quacks like a duck....(Scientology) it's (Scientology) a duck.

I am saying just because people don't think it is "lawful" - attorney's and judges break the law all the time....

If the laws were set on "previous precident" and an attorney and Judge allow it to be SEALED - how can laws be set on precident?

It is a cluster fuck of illegal and immoral shit that happens in court rooms DAILY.

Money runs the court rooms. Judges - in a bad mood - have the POWER to ruin LIVES and do everyday.

Most Judges are unhappy people - they listen to people complain day and day out. Most of them are wanna be lawyers that could not cut it.

This is my opinion only - but I am good at seeing through all of the shenanigan's.

I LOVE this post! :biglove:

You're a never-in, amiright?

This post is a classic. You have just described precisely what goes on when someone takes a Scientology Student Hat course and looks up EVERY word in EVERY definition, EVERY word within each definition that you wouldn't fully, completely comprehend, EVERY word within those definitions, etc. in one Loooong chain, as well as EVERY derivation of that word, every similar word you might have heard earlier that might come to mind, and then returns to the text to find WHICH DEFINITION FITS.

Are Scientologists obsessed much with unnecessary details?

This is from over at the bunker today:Draco • an hour ago In Part 16, Marty talks about asking Paul Haggis to give Beghe a part in anything, just to boost him because he was a wreck, falling apart and didn't believe he's ever work again...Hmm... Jason Beghe to Tony Ortega in 2008 - a year before Marty went public (AFAIK):"He (Jason) knew that Marty Rathbun had left several years earlier, and no one seemed to know where he was. And we had just heard at that time that Mike Rinder, the former church spokesman, had also “blown.”Beghe became determined to track them all down to find out what seemed to be driving away former high-ranking members. And, as Going Clear indicates, Beghe was one of the first people to track down Marty Rathbun, along with Amy Scobee and Mat Pesch, and started talking to Rathbun about re-emerging and doing something about Scientology’s internal turmoil. We think it’s no accident that the epic St. Petersburg Times series came out just a year later, after Beghe had crossed the country to get former Scientologists motivated to talk publicly about what was going on. We don’t know that Beghe has ever received proper credit for how much things have changed in the last six years because he made that effort."So Rathbun had to have his ass kicked by this wreck of an actor before daring to go public? But that's not how Marty spins it. It's all him, Marty Rathbun, who gave people the courage and impetus to do the right thing.

Yeah, that does shine a different light on things. I had no idea. I don't remember Beghe being mentioned on Marty's blog for months, so I completely missed the idea that Beghe got Marty out of his feeling of purposelessness or mild depression or whatever, and Marty turned into super critic of David Miscavige.

It was probably true that Beghe was worried he wouldn't get any parts because either the parts he got in the past were helped by his Scientology connections, at least sometimes, or that Scientology would attempt to blackball him in the industry.

I guess it was that Haggis film where Beghe had a small role as a cop. I forget the name of it. I'm sure it was pretty uncomfortable for Marty to harangue Haggis about getting Beghe a role though, but Beghe is such a good actor. He's been good in every single role he's been in.

Another thing I think people shouldn't forget is it seems Marty is spitting and spinning all this shit under a contract. He obviously can't say anything critical about Miscavige, Hubbard or Scientology, but HAS to, by contract, be critical of former members who spoke out, some who may have been his good friends. So take what he's saying with a grain of salt, for Xenu's sake. I think Haggis is taking it that way.

Someone in the comments section of the latest Regarded Being asked Rinder to comment on Marty's video series:

Great post RB and Mike. We would love to have you address what Marty Rathbun is doing. “Keeping Scientology Working” with a blood money gag order buy-out LYING videos to discredit himself so Slappy can keep on Slapping. PLEASE – address this on the A&E Show. Miscavige is deathly afraid of losing his Tax Exempt Status!!

Rinder's response:

Miscavige should be afraid of losing exempt status. Marty Rathbun has nothing to do with that. Exposing abuses and crimes of scientology is what will bring that about. Not discussion about Marty Rathbun.

If "exposing abuses and crimes of Scientology" is so important to him, why isn't he talking about his time as CO OSA Int, about OSA operations in the US and elsewhere? Since he came out, he hasn't said a word about his involvement and knowledge - besides posting on his blog a lame and vague online apology for his actions.

Going on your opinion, there's still a mystery though, of how Miscavige will point current members to these videos. If I were a Scientologist experiencing doubt and went to Marty's YouTube site, my settings play the trio of weirdos harassing Marty at the Airport. I would find that video absolutely fascinating compared to Marty droning on about a book I never read and was not supposed to read, like GOING CLEAR. There are many people in the cult who don't know who Marty Rathbun is.

Why weren't earlier videos of Marty deleted, and why didn't Marty erase all earlier blog posts, when he was critical of Miscavige? That seems like that would be a simple precautionary measure, if Miscavige had any intention of current members seeing these videos on Marty's site, or even seeing the videos on a special cult site.

Plus, Marty's blog and/or videos used to be hot stuff. There was buzz by ex-members who were in contact with family and friends still in saying to each other, "You've got to look at Marty's post on this." No ex-member who wants a family member out is going to direct them to this series.

Marty's site has been cold for years. Ortega's daily blogging and Rinder's site also, have eclipsed Marty's site, which gets very little traffic. Remini's book, her series on A&E, the books of others, including GOING CLEAR book and documentary, are all going to generate hundreds of times more interest than former critic Marty Rathbun.

You Google "Scientology" and Marty Rathbun's site and his videos, even at his peak, were not at the top but now they will be way down.

Marty is entheta. A set of 1000 videos critical of all critics and GOING CLEAR, or doing steps A through E (which I don't think he's doing), or a big payoff (I certainly think he's getting that), is not going to erase that. He was the closest to Miscavige of any ex-member critic when he was in the cult and the most critical of Miscavige for years on his blog and in the media, up until about a year ago.

Shelly Miscavige makes one mistake and she's isolated for the rest of her life. And you think Miscavige can forgive Marty, and start pointing active Scientologists to videos he's making about anything? That is a huge stretch.

Marty was basically the co-star of MY SCIENTOLOGY MOVIE and he scripted and directed the devastating Hole reenactments, complete with a nutty and violent-tempered Miscavige.

Seeing these latest videos would confuse the hell out of current members, and they would start talking and asking questions. What is going on with Marty? Who is Marty? Is he the new spokescreature? Is he back in Scientology again? I thought he had gone Type III. Isn't he an SP?

Like the other people Scientology has erased from videos and photos, Miscavige would want Marty to be thought of as never having been there. He's supposed to be non-existent, like Hubbard's second wife. Members have gone through ethics cycles just for visiting Marty or reading his blog.

So, if I were to guess at the purpose of the videos, it is as you said, dead-agenting himself so he will not be in any future media appearances critical of Scientology, nor will be be appearing in any court cases against Scientology. So it's meant to be confusing, but for that general idea to get across to the media, the critical community, or to anyone thinking of maybe asking Marty to testify against Miscavige in a court case, Marty is no longer doing that. Marty has left the building (org, compound, RPF, Hole, squirrel facility) and not coming back.

His package deal may include not furnishing any information to the government, or if called to do so, he'll defend Scientology's tax exemption until Xenu comes home.

You're comparing executives who made mistakes like Marty made before he left the cult and became a critic. They didn't write books, appear on TV speaking critically about Scientology, Hubbard and Miscavige, or blog daily about it.

The sole exception I can think of is one of the three founders of the Ex-Scientology Kids site who after having a baby, missed contact with her wealthy family so badly she got back in. The other two founders, Astra and Jenna, were more active and visible anyway. I would rank the importance of the woman who went back to the cult in the 2nd one hundred of most important and influential ex-member critics. And, of course, she disappeared when Scientology criticism really began heating up.

Marty is mentioned or plays some role in probably three-quarters of the critical books or TV programs about Scientology dealing with post-Miscavige taking leadership.

Have I made all this crystal clear? I hope not, because I'm still waiting for a lot of clarification myself.

I agree he's dead agenting himself. He cannot be considered a credible witness in the future what with all the flip-flopping he's done. But the bigger question is....has he perjured himself?

Tony Ortega recently showed side-by-side comparisons of what he's said under oath in the past vs what he's saying in these videos. Was he lying then or lying now, i.e. doing what he's accusing Wright of doing...making shit up.

And is what he's doing actionable?

I would guess that IF these videos are shown to people still in that they won't be shown at Marty's blog. Hell it could be that Marty is just doing the greatest good for the greatest self involved dynamic. The flavor of these videos has a taste of, Marty is the ONLY authority on scientology.

I can only answer this from a New Zealand position.

Yes. That is why it is imperative for the cult to retain the tax-exemption status. The status affords the cult way more than is initially apparent.

(NZ) Religious status is not granted in any legal sense by any court, though the status is "valuable" in court situations and various other legal arenas. The tax-exemption status (in NZ) is the ONLY recognition by the State that the cult is a religion.

Rescind that (tax-exemption) status and all the cards fall on the ground.

A valuable notation!

And. . .

There seem to be multiple ONLY authorities on Scientology, lol.

Hubbard is the ONLY authority on Scientology. Not a word or comma can be altered!

Except when COB is the newly crowned dictator and ONLY authority on Scientology! Then he can alter materials, delete tech from audiotapes, make up new meanings for "Floating Needle", and whatever other whim strikes his fancy.

Except, David Mayo is actually the ONLY authority on Scientology--appointed for life by Dr. Hubbard himself. Well, at least until Mayo is Fair Gamed and sued into silence.

That reminds me of the time John McMaster was touring the world as the very first Clear! He then was the ONLY authority on Clear since nobody else had ever attained that lofty supernatural state. Until....Ron decided that the world's first clear was actually an SP. So, within about 16 months of declaring John "Clear", Ron declared him "SP".

Then Captain Bill Robertson declared himself as the ONLY authority on the tech and Bridge. Hmmm, but another ONLY authority (COB) declared him SP, too.

Later, Marty Rathbun decided that he was the ONLY authority on the tech. One of his "Indie Scientology" followers felt that actually THEY were the ONLY authority on the tech. So the dueling ONLY authorities had a bad falling out, replete with bitter character assassination & dead agenting.

SCIENTOLOGY PARADOX # 429: The fabulously fallacious fallacy on claiming to be the ONLY authority on KSW. How does even make sense in any world that people are so eager to claim themselves a the ONLY AUTHORITY on a technology which a) doesn't work, and; b) was long-since debunked as a ridiculous hoax? Perhaps with true-blue Scientologists, any status is better than no status.

I think the 501 C will be gone, and it will likely have a monumental tax bill for not living up to it's agreements, such as giving refunds, as it promised the IRS was SOP. But that has nothing to do with it being a religion, and it won't affect it's constitutional protection. Like it or not - it deals with the nature of man as a spiritual being and thus it is a religion. You just won't be able to take it as a write off on your taxes George, sad to say. Have you thought of forming your own religion? I have Mimsyism, being the sole guru and adherent, perhaps you could do something similar.

How do these strike you? The exalted Church of Laytonology? Or Laytonetics?

ONLY IN SCIENTOLOGY!
Only in Scientology can an amateur writer like Marty Rathbun indignantly demand that Pulitzer Prize Winning author Lawrence Wright follow his "expert" advice. Because, like Tom Cruise at the scene of a car accident, Marty is the "authority" on writing.

SLIGHT PROBLEM!

-- Marty's tortured effort to write and sell books was a self-published, un-selling, bombastic blogging BOMB!

-- Whereas, the "know-nothing" and "lying" WOG Wright has merely generated worldwide critical acclaim & prestigious awards in a BLOCKBUSTER BONANZA!

The "authority" on writing is, therefore, the "downstat" failed writer. This makes complete sense in a Scientologist's tech-addled mind.

TECHNICAL EXPLANATION!

In this Orwellian DoubleThink nightmare, how is it even conceivable that the downstat is the upstat? Because, the downstat didn't blink and they had "tone 40 certainty" when they declared that they were the authority on writing books. It was "real to them", so therefore it's "real".

Really.

That's "reality" (as in ARC = Understanding)

Mental Health care professionals recognize this syndrome by its Latin diagnostic designation: "Diaboliculum Delusionatus Dianetica".

Maybe the videos are an effort to dead agent Marty and invalidate ANY testimony he could give to the IRS or as a witness in any IRS review of the tax exemption.

Nothing concrete. I am reading between the lines that something is really really scaring the hell out of the cult and it ain't what we can see or hear.

I know for a fact from when I was in, the biggest fear the cult has is losing it's tax exemption status. The cult can sustain all sorts of external hits but would become a ship without a rudder if exemption was revoked.

If/when the move to rescind the exemption hits, it will come out of nowhere. Imho. I realise most people on this board see this issue through an "American lens" but the fact remains that the cult is holding various governments to ransom around the world. This cult has lied to and manipulated many workable democratic systems. Over the years scientology has made some powerful enemies, many of which I have no doubt, are invisible. It is too easy to cling to the noise, that which is visible. It's an OSA tactic to make noise to distract.

You asked the question about what was going on. I suspect it is something to do with legal structure. They've wheeled Marty out like some low-grade actor in a badly scripted play. Why? Look towards the invisible biggest fear. Imho.

I trust this makes some sense. It is a big picture the way this cult was put together, how it has protected itself layer upon layer. It has taken a hammering in popular culture the past 8-10 years. It can sustain those hits so long as all the legally religious protective cloaking is water-tight. Perhaps it isn't water-tight. Just sayin'.

Disclaimer: I probably have no idea what I am talking about. :wink2:
