Re-Cycling Scientology Materials

Completed Staff Work

Situation:
Boxes and boxes of worthless books, tapes and CDs. :confused2:

Data:
1. We have the "The Basics", the red vols, the green vols, the congresses and many of the old tapes. Plus an e-meter. :duh:
2. Having become aware of what these materials have done for many on this board; for crew in the SO; for DM; for LRH; I find it difficult these days to take any of these materials seriously and all they do is collect dust.:duh: :duh:
3. The re-sale value of these materials would hardly cover the cost of frieght.:duh: :duh: :duh:

Solution:
Publicly and with fan-fare re-cycle (in a environmentally friendly fashion) the stuff.

This is okay: Not Okay:

Do you have a stove that heats your house that you could convert over to using paper that has been chopped up and fed to the fire along a conveyor belt?

A working CofS meter has a resale value of maybe $100 for a Mark V, $3-400 for a Mark VI, and $800-$1500 for a Mark VII. Check eBay.

Plus some anons might love some of this stuff.

We tossed so much into our recycling bin last year. It was so nice. Hubby kept about 5 or 6 boxes of stuff. Last night I complained to him that I want the boxes put somewhere else besides our office. They are taking up one huge corner.

Only one set of each? My wife and I each had our original sets dating back to the 70's and then many copies of commonly reissued books such "Scientology Ethics", "What is Scientology" and all the ones that had their covers redesigned and were continuously re-issued. In the Red and Green on whites, we had multiple issues of each. We had enough material to fill a bookcase about 7' high and 8' wide. Can you say $$$? All the LRH books must have cost us 4 or 5 thousand dollars and when the tapes and Congresses were added, that figure at least doubled!

One thing that can be done is to take the books to the local library. We did so and also took our Enclyclopedia Brittanica and our Compton's Encyclopedia (since everything is now on line) and the library took in nearly all of the books. They probably won't take the Green on White and Red on White volumes. You can call them ahead of time and discuss what they will and will not take. One thing you face if you do this is an ethical issue. If you feel the LRH materials have a negative effect on society, you would not want to aid in their circulation. If you feel that the material is of no value but also would not do harm to anyone or if you feel the books have things of value in them, then they could be donated to the library.

Check and see if there is a Half Price Books in your area. Or any bookstore that deals with resales would probably work.

If they take them in, you will recoup some of your money. They can then sell them to others who might benefit. Again, personal ethics is the key here.

I have personally seen Scn materials in Half Price Books in the past.

Then go purchase some books that further your personal quest!

Putting scientology in a book store is like leaving a dirty syringe near the squirt guns. Bad idea.

Turn your cult tech, into TOILET PAPER

Simple steps as follows:

1. Rip a page out of a book or transcript.

2. Next, crumple up the paper into as tight a ball as the fist will allow. Make as many creases as possible without holes.

3. Unfold and flatten. Take care not to tear or rip from any of the creases.

4. Repeat steps 2 and 3 dependent upon the fortitude and mettle of the buttocks and especially the anus. The more repetitions, the softer the page will become. Gentle rolling in ball form helps.

After enough time, the once dangerous and retarded page will break down into a less damaging proposition. Now it will feel more welcoming and relaxing and of course it get's what it deserves. Proceed to the end.

In view of the great harm I believe Scientology and L. Ron Hubbard has done to so many people, whenever I see, and can afford to I buy secondhand Dianetics etc. I do this because I feel strongly that someone might buy this and through no fault of their own be tempted to go into a Scientology organization, then find it difficult to leave without handing over money. Worse still that they will be duped into becoming a Scientologist.

I met a lady in Hastings (whilst picketing there), and something she said really struck a chord with me.

She said she had been invited into a Scientology org to take a personality test. She was on holiday and thought why not.She said that she had always felt that she could never be persuaded to do anything she did not want to. Yet, the Scientologist, would not let her leave without her signing a cheque. He kept her there for hours, she could not get away.

This happened about 12 years ago, yet, to this day she is still baffled and mystified as to how this could have happened.

I have heard similar stories from other people. There are thousands of people who are aware of what Scientology does, however, there are also thousands of people who have never heard of it. Those are the people who need protecting, especially if they happen to be going through a tough time in their lives.

We ALL have boxes of crap?

When That green vol zero - what was it, basic staff hat, or whatever, came out on CD-ROM I bought one - I thought great, now they'll give up on this outdated paper publishing and allow for searchable online data - but no. it was the only one. Since then every re-publishing has been bigger and heavier than the last. the HANDbook weighs in about 7 pounds - hardly portable. Now the basics are heavier than the books they replaces, which in turn are heavier than the earlier 1970s editions. They want to give us more mass. Why?
I have boxes of stuff too - that cost me $1000s :-(
useless.

It's kinda sad. These are the people with manners and respect for others people and it is used against them. People need to look scientologists in the eyes and say: "NO. I am leaving now. Goodbye." Get up and leave. It's rude and I would also have a hard time doing it. Particularly if the person was trying to 'help' me.

Now I find I am a bit over-board in the other direction. I have a big “You WILL NOT control me. You will NOT tell me what to think or feel. You will NOT tell ME what is “true” what is "real” going on. I am working on smoothing it over but at least I feel safe again.

I also worry about people being sucked in. So now I talk to people about my scientology experiences. I warn everyone I can.

It think Anon Orange on this board might like the meter, he's conducting experiments, pm him.

It's a personal decision, what will serve your own highest good? Give to anons, tp, bonfire, trash them, sell to bookstore or on ebay?

I'll suggest another, contact your local college or University religion/philosophy/sociology departments and see if any teacher or grad student can use it in their critical research/writing/teaching. Often departments have their own small research libraries. College is all about critical thinking (one of the reasons why Ron was so contemptuous of it). Might do much good for many. Maybe also contact the reporters at SP Times and see if they want any of it for background information, they seem to be "on" this story for the long-haul.

The bottom line is, given all these good ideas, do whatever (maybe a combination of things) does the greatest good for YOU.

I also worry about people being sucked in. So now I talk to people about my scientology experiences. I warn everyone I can.

Yesterday I was acosted by a young "Friends of the earth" man. He went out of his way to greet me, leaping about all over the place in his effort to hold my attention. After telling him my name and yes it was a lovely day. I said, "now you're going to try and get some money out of me". He laughed and said "Yes, its only £1.50 a month, its in a great cause.

He asked me how I felt about the enviroment and what was happening to the world. So I told him.I have always felt mankind was ruining the earth. I wrote to Margaret Thatcher and told her what I thought about about dumping toxic waste in the North Sea.

I told him I had my own cause. He asked what it was. I told him "Protesting the abuses and crimes committed by the 'church of scientology'. He said "thats a good cause". To cut a long story short,he told me he used to live in East. Grinstead, how he was madly in love with this girl. She was a scientologist. As their relationship progressed she wouldn't have sex with him unless he became a scientologist. He said to me - I really loved her, but not that much.

As I started to walk off, he said again "only £1.50 a month to fight the worlds multi corporate organizations", and I said " you think Scientology isn't a multi corporate organization."

Oooh, you have an e-meter? Now that's caught my interest. Check your PMs, please. :) A meter would be great for a raid, we could give people mock stress tests and show them how easily the meter is manipulated.

I'd suggest selling the books to a second-hand bookshop, but I see Hubbard sci-fi novels in the fiction section of my favourite second-hand bookshop, and they've been sitting there for over a year.

I am actually kinda looking forward to my first experience of being confronted by someone still in to reg me for something. I can't wait. I am so removed from that world (only a few toe tips in that pool due to friends and family - well more so due to my recovery) I am not sure when that will happen....

I wonder if it will come from someone I know.
