Owned a Tri-Pacer with two other guys while in Kansas City back in mid to late '60s and was a navigator in the Air Force Reserve. Expensive hobby even then - gave it up and now fly some radio control models which is a lot of fun.
The Beech Bonanza was what the old hands called a "Dr killer" - because of a couple of things... one, Doctors are typically big egos and think they can get away with most anything - plus they hate to wait and feel omnipotent. Two, they probably learned on a Cessna 150, Cherokee 140 or similar - very forgiving, slow, dirty birds.
So they have money to upgrade up to a clean, sleek, fast "all metal subsonic"
like a Bonanza - may or may not get IFR ratings... get to feeling comfortable...and, possibly with a cocktail or two in them decide to push the weather and daylight.
It's freaking amazing how fast a "clean" airplane can get away from you...
Anyhow, I miss the whole scene and just consider that I was fortunate to experience some of it, and survive it.
Out of time here; may the altitude always be below ya, the runway ahead of ya and the stall warning horn silent!
