Do you suppose that if I......nah, it couldn't be that simple.

It controls armadillos and raccoons too.

It's been musicals playing all day on TMC.

The Music Man
Phantom of The Opera
South Pacific
SweeneyTodd
Cats

What a treat..not many commercials. I had never seen Cats.

Well, I just spent over an hour writing a pithy long post...and lost it due to a computer glitch/timeout...:pfft: :depressed:

I hate technology! :grouch:

Well, it's a beautiful day out so I am going forth into the real world to do some good work.

Have a wonderful day, everyone! :happydance:

Oh, I started by saying hello and welcome to Mike Goldstein, so I will repeat that much for now!

Glad you could join us Mike, good to see you here! :welcome2:

Don't feel bad. Two days ago I had finished a 3 hour effort to describe what I saw going on with housing in the Disney area and its relationship to the cheap labor that was brought in. I went to attach the satellite photos of the huge neighborhoods surrounding Universal and Sea World as well. It was a reply to something Lakey had posted...but poof. O well. If ya can't say nuthin nice...don't say it at all.

Drat!

I feel your pain, Sister! :melodramatic: :p Thanks for sharing, I feel less alone with it now. Sigh.

Thanks Ted, posting those great songs for us to enjoy... I ...don't want.... a pickle! :D

Nozzie, peeing on the fence posts or along the fence line is one way to keep the varmints out...but you have to keep up the effort.

Low tech, but effective to a degree. I saw a coyote today about four blocks from my home. I stopped the car, rolled down the window and talked to it, and it stopped and listened to me.

Wonder if it is telling all it's pack buddies about it tonight. :) "I saw a human today...it stopped and talked to me"

I heard they had gotten bad where the subdivisions expand into the foothills of California. Lately deer and bears contribute to home invasions. The news clips are too funny. Do coyote eat your domestic pets?

Hey I want to read that lost reply!

Hey, I want to read that reply that went poof. You spent three hours on it and lost it. That is terrible for both of us plus the entire board. (Worse for you than me or the Board). Can you at least let me know what post of mine you were responding to? Send the concept to me telepathetically. If you let me know where you are and when you will be doing it, I will probably pick up on it. If that doesn't fly how about a PM or a Skype call or non Skype call?

I hope for your sake it was the Angela Lansbury & George Hearn recording. That's a film of the original production, touring company. It is truly wonderful.

The original show is much lighter than the Burton/Depp/Bonham-Carter film. It's good also, in its way, but it differed quite substantially from the staged version. The darker tone was intended for film.

Hi Lakey,

My post was in response to comments made about taxes. You, Roger, Mark and Ted had made posts just recently on this thread. But I had quoted a comment of yours.

I was citing a phenomena I see spreading which is going to cause another kind of bubble to go pop.

Two years ago there was a special on HBO about Walmart. They sign up employees for Medicaid right when they come in as a new hire. Walmart knows that all individuals under a certain income who have children in the household are covered by the U.S. tax dollars. They exploit this to save the corporation money. They favor the part time workers who they never have to provide benefits for. This insurance now covers the parents too.

Well, in the last decade Universal Studios and Disney.... as well as Sea World are also benefitting because of our tax payers. For 12 years I watched as NEW residential homes/apartments went up as I drove to work on the expressway. I never saw any 'NOW LEASING' signs at the condos by the way. Yet these places filled up...fast. These are in very nice areas next to for instance__ The Villages of the Grand Cypress Regency or Bay Hill .....the Lake Buena Vista time share /golfing establishments and Disney Hotels. Immigrating individuals are relocated there so as to be right across the street from mega employers. It is the shear quantity of new complexes going up where if you don't earn much the gov't pays for the rest of your family's needs. Corporations should be held responsible for providing full time hours and affordable insurance. Its not profitable but it is DOable.

That's about all my rant was about Lakey. But I don't have the energy to include all the peripherals. In Cleveland it has gotten much worse than that with the County buying and giving away homes through the Community Reinvestment Act. The average price of nice 3 story brick homes here is going down because the surrounding blocks are 'changing' FAST. It is phenomenally fast.

Nope, but I've seen that one Mark.

South Pacific was not the one with Mitzi Gaynor either. It was Glen Close and Harry Connick Jr. who did a wonderful job.

I LOVE 'Phantom'___ I always end up singing his part. Its so much more fun!

Hats, its about 12:30 am and I am ready to retire. Your post is a bit complicated but if I get what you are waying, big corporations are using low dollar wage earners to work the system so as to acquire a lot of low buck workers and take advantage of the government by having most of the perks for those workers be paid for by government monies. If that is not correct, I will have to reread your post in the morning when I am fresher.

BTW, did you listen to Cecilian Bartoli sing? I know she does not have the fine delicate lines of beauty as do many of the actresses and singers whom you admire. Instead, as befits a classical soprano, she is husky and a bit on the robust side in her appearance but her presence is incredible and her singing is magnificent, don't you agree?

It meant a lot to me to see that Roger was also well schooled and into classical choral music. Roger, EP, and yours truly seem to be the three main persons who post on the thread who are into classical music. Oh yes, Ted made a positive comment about one of my classical posts featuring Franz Gerl recently as well. I am sure there are others but I don't know who they are. Well, good night y'all.

Yes, yes! I listened to Cecilia Bartoli sing. She's wonderful! Who cares about that other stuff. It didn't affect Pavarotti did it?:clap:

The Dalai Lama Says...

Dalai Lama: "While people are often content to criticize and blame others for what goes wrong, surely we should at least attempt to put forward constructive ideas. One thing is for certain: given human beings' love of truth, justice, peace, and freedom, creating a better, more compassionate world is a genuine possibility. The potential is there."

Having a creative way to legally reduce employment costs allows them to hire people who otherwise might not have been hired. For part time workers, companies have also hired teenagers who are covered under their parents health insurance, and retirees who are covered under Medicare.

You would prefer the poor remain unemployed?

I'd rather see the feds go after illegal aliens and stop opening the gates to Third World immigration that's driving down wages for low-skill labor.

Well, in the last decade Universal Studios and Disney.... as well as Sea World are also benefitting because of our tax payers. And the federal government shows little interest in deporting illegal immigrants. The feds now have a new policy where they stop accepting illegals for deportation if they were caught as part of a traffic stop (a large percentage of illegals are detected at traffic stops).
