Roger thank you for sharing that from Alan !
I've gotten weary of hearing how Hubbie said the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth on the subject of communication and there is nothing else on the subject to be said or worth listening to.
There are so many that have generously added so much from their own wisdom about communication and gone so far beyond the strict limitations of Hubbies proclamations on the subject - although there are those that will chose to stay with - and tolerate - only that.
Error! It handles "serfacs" (bad name for it of course), not problems. (Release Grades came in in '65 . . the serfac tech I refer to here came in around Sept. '63)
Oh, oh

Yes, folks do stick with their "safe solutions"! We all do or have done, actually. It's why folks can feel quite comfortable with what they have and what they do while all around them others are only left to wonder where the fool is "coming from?!?"
The Serfac tech of '63 originally looked for the safe solution on the case . . . the think being that that was the serfac handling life for the guy and in the way of him/her being able to find truth and as-is what was needed to be handled. I highlight "the" because that was one of the errors . . . the consideration that there is just one, main huge answer-to-everything serfac on the case.
Then Hubby-boy came up with the idea of his then way of finding serfacs, by looking for the the guy's major problem(s) and standing, auto safe solution thereto, was to actually O/R "problems release."Error! It handles "serfacs" (bad name for it of course), not problems. (Release Grades came in in '65 . . the serfac tech I refer to here came in around Sept. '63)
Fact is, there are many, many "serfacs" cum safe solutions on the case.
You can see folks sticking with them all the time when they go into "defensive mode."
Err, umm, could it be that some folks have $cn (or some cherished aspect or data of it) as a current major safe solution in PT??Oh, oh
Would tend to prevent further inspection and appreciation of higher level better truths, no? or yes? I'd say

Just to offer something on one part of what you mentioned : Serfac.
On the grades they were such a broadshoot most anybody put on 'em could be gotten through. No everything ran on anybody but enough ran to do the level...right up to grade 4 and then comes the Serfacs.
I think most competent auditors knew that one serfac did not an answer provide for the whole person...just never did. Getting just one item and giving it was so frought with difficulties. Anyway, you made an excellent observation that "one" wasn't it.
Then Hubbie jumped in a different direction on OT3 to say everybody has and must run this incident. To me, more of the impossible "one size fits all " Hubbie seemed locked into.
And back to where we were earlier...communication exists on so many different levels and ranges from really crude all the way to elegant - and beyond - both ways and all directions.
The beauty with which an accomplished wordsmith can express their idea is stunning.....as is the love a Mother communicates to her baby.
That stuff that goes into communication doesn't seem to fit neatly in a little bottle as some would seem to insist it must.
IT USED TO BE CERTS AND AWARDS.
IT HAS BEEN ALTERED BY SPS TO MEAN COMPASSION AND APPRECIATION.
HUBBARD WOULD PUKE.

LRH was always looking for a universal one shot handling.
He may have been partially correct. After my grade IV I demonstrated
"OT " lets say out of the ordinary abilities. Briefly.
My consideration is that I as ised the possibility of serfacs.
Many years later on a self elected FPRD I came across another serfac,
" leaving a group to make it wrong." Seemed to have no charge and was quite interesting to look at.
Worked for me very well.
I do consider that more than one serfac would be best to explore.
Not being a techie I wonder how this might work out, and has worked out_
When it's all said and done, I am reminded of this George Bernard Shaw quote: "The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place."
If you are clear on what you are saying, getting through another's fixed ideas can be a challenge. The beginning (and end) of intercourse (not just sexual) is Affinity, not Communication as some people seem to believe. Given enough Affinity, mechanical conditions of existence disappear. This is (scientologically) axiomatic.
There are many serfacs, as many as deemed necessary to hold off the confusions of life, as many as needed to make self right, superior, dominant, etc. when survival is threatened. I have seen a class 12 stuff his status "in your face." There is no communication through the serfac, "I'm a Class 12 trained by Hubbard." Professional serfacs are a joy to behold once you know what you are looking at.

Astute observation.
Most people have a better opinion of class 12s than I do.
One was brought to my house by a very dear long time friend.
The 12 asked me a question that was very very out of line ( but pure scn viewpoint ) and I looke dat my friend and said " Thanks for coming by ".
And she knew it was time to exit right then - and did.
Still to this day I deeply regret not breaking his jaw.
Yep, we have our "safe solutions" and "life handling mechanisms" for each of the many areas and subjects we've had problems with that had to be managed/handled and such.
Don't think in terms "one answer to life" . . . . . life is not "one scenario, situation or problem" only. It's a multi-faceted monster
Hell, had Hubbard been smarter he could have come up with "Serfacs by Dynamics!" . . . . now that would have been a money spinner as huge as endless S/Nots and 6 monthly sec checks!
But the dunce missed the opportunity . . . and folks missed some potential good and worthwhile gains!
And for the record, I still discover "serfacs" --- I use the term you are familiar with; but in reality they are "thoughts, beliefs, precepts, safe solutions" I've adopted over the eons to solve or handle areas of existence I expand into as I continue to advance my case.
And how frequently? Two or three a month.
For the fact is, these old areas of existence and activity I am recovering got long ago locked down and "put to rest" by my/these old wrong answer "solutions" . . . and they need be cleaned off so I can again and now in PT operate correctly and sanely.
Seems a reasonable proposition to me, no?

I knew you'd get it, My Dear Hats.
That is, get it in the full sense of appreciating their full value, importance and in understanding their content along with being grateful to get them
Howzat for a use of that word I like![]()

FWIW, she's not the only one who appreciates the gift of gold.
Thank you!
