Yep, this thread is a nightmare to navigate due to the innumerable multi-video links, I usually avoid it for that exact reason. The script loading of multi-vids can lock up or crash most browsers. Lrn2internet, Appolo Thread folks
I took the huge beast apart. I thought, broken up, it would work better. Can you just trash any and all, and make it go away?Hmmmm....Why would you post MORE videos after being told that posting lots of videos makes your thread really hard to read/load?
Looks cute but video not available on mobile.
My point had little or nothing to do with specific issues.
My point was that the Progressives are more pompous, more pedantic, more prone to promote falsehoods and do whatever it takes to see that their viewpoint prevails.... and when they do these things, they are proud of it and feel they have done their duty. Behind this is the concept that they are the elite and enlightened ones and they alone can see the truth and that all viewpoints are destructive.
Right wingers will also fight hard for their positions but if they lose an election, they will shrug it off, say that the people have spoken and try and pick a better candidate for the next election.
Some of those issues you stated are not accurate - I don't believe anyone is pushing for not funding birth control.
Closing the government down as a negotiating tactic is more of a Democratic tactic. The U.S. Senate tables dozens of bills which made it through the House. If the Senate Leader Harry Reed does not like a bill, he simply doesn't allow it to be put up for a vote in the Senate. One example is refusing to put a house approved budget up for a vote leading us to not having had a budget for the last 3 years!
No one is railing at the lack of Christianity in the schools and government. That's just not an accurate statement.
Some of the other items have some merit and some don't but that was not what my post was about.

I think you are living is an imaginary world. Really.
I respect different political views.
But I don't respect distorting obvious facts and realities.
I think you need to your hands personally involved with how the other half lives.
Then you would have a different view.
The Anabaptist Jacques
We agree on a lot of things. From your above remarks you infer that I distort obvious facts and realities. I never inferred that you did so. I tried to present a few facts about the Eastern Euro countries rejecting Marxist governments the moment they had the opportunity to do so. I believe my statements and facts presented were correct. Maybe you feel they are distored. That's OK with me. People of good will are going to have differences. That's just the way things arre!
I grew up a Jewish Liberal and switched to Conservatism. You started out as a Libertarian Conservative and switch to Socialism and to feeling that Marx got the major things right. You are a good writer and are well spoken. I made no negative comments about you personally. I just wrote that you "said a mouthful" but did not imply any negativity with that comment. I ask for equal treatment by you.
I've seen how several sides live. Being Jewish is not the norm though only twice in my life did I ever feel discriminated against. All my family and friends were Liberals and I was too. Even now, my Son and Daughter are very Progressive.
Our neighborhood went Black when I was 11 but my Dad did not move out until I was 17 so for 6 years I lived in a neighborhood about 75% black, 20% Korean and 5% white. I made friends with everyone, regardless of race and never felt uncomfortable living there.
Next I worked in the Corporate world: North American Rockwell, Douglas and IBM. IBM was a very conservative company. I saw things from that point of view. Next, I spent a year in Houston in 1964-65 working at NASA and several of my fellow workers were strongly bigoted against Blacks and also made fun of Hispanics. I was considered a "Yankee Agitator" by several people at work since I was still a Liberal then.
Then there is Scientology. I was an S.O. member in Portugal and Spain and worked amongst artists and celebrities in L.A. More recently there is ESMB, extremely multi-viewpointed. Many others have experienced more viewpoints than me but I don't believe that I am "viewpoint defficient.

If you want to have a discussion then fine, but don't stab people in the back with smears to their character while you talk friendly to their face.
On the Russian-Jewish thing . . .
For those interested, it would be enlightening to wiki "pogrom," here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Jewish_pogroms_in_the_Russian_Empire
and see that the "Russian Pogrom" actually occurred only in a series of towns in the Ukraine and in what's now called Moldavia . . . and such is certainly not OK, but to accuse "Russia" of it is the equivalent of saying what went on in Mississippi 100 years ago went on all over America.
In one incident, for those who want to posit the "government" or the Czar condoned it you'll be able to read two facts:
In one incident 2 Jews were killed but the Russian troops shot and killed 19 rioters engaging in the pogrom to put it down.
And why do mobs riot and kill and plunder? . . . For the same reason certain groups rioted and killed and plundered in the Detroit "race" riots (there have been several, take your pick from 1863 to 1967).
This stupid shit of cultural/racial strife and assault is nothing new: it's the craziness of planet Earth. Don't blame it on "Russia" or infer it only ever happened to the "Jews." We've all been there-done that.
As to the Czar's stance in all this? Read wiki on his "The Manifesto on the Improvement of the State Order" of October, 1905, here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/October_Manifesto
To be noted, wiki and other sources cite that the pogroms followed or were "caused" as a result of the assassination of Czar Alexander II, in 1881, in which a Jew was said to have been among the plotters.
You will read in the book I cited earlier how the Czarina to Alexander III "the Peace-Maker" accused her husband (who inherited the throne) of being too lenient with the assassins and plotters . . .
As to the accomplishments of the Jewish folks and their love of learning . . . of course that is fact. That is not at issue here . . . what is at issue is the accusations against "Russia."

It appears you have twisted what I said.
The quote of mine above was a response to your statement above that.
I even quoted yours in my post.
Yet what youcriticized me for criticizing was something entirely different.
I'm curious why did you try and give the impression that I was talking about Eastern Europe?
It was clear in my post what I was criticizing. You've distorted that in your post.
This is an example of what I meant when I spoke of obviously distorting the facts.
And you did the same thing you occuse me of when you wrote this (it is from the first post of yours I quoted)
"My point was that the Progressives are more pompous, more pedantic, more prone to promote falsehoods and do whatever it takes to see that their viewpoint prevails.... and when they do these things, they are proud of it and feel they have done their duty. Sorry, but that is a personal attack, and not a factual one, but a personal smear of character. By the way, how do you know what we progressives think and feel?
Don't twist our words and then say this is what they are thinking.
This is nonsense.

You were not specific about what it was in my posts that you felt was I was distorting. I attempted to figure it out and what I came up with was that our main area of disagreement was our politics. You switched from Libertarian and Conservative to Socialist and pro Marxist while I switched from Liberal to Conservative.
I had no idea you were criticizing my claim that Progressives were pompous, pedantic and more prone to promote falsehoods because they feel they are enlightened and elite and look down on those who do not agree with them. I've asserted that claim repeatedly recently and no one has challenged it so I never suspected that was the critical point of disagreement between us.
Now that I know, all I can say is that the above claim of mine is just my opinion. I see it as a trait of the Progressives as a group. As far as individual Progressives such as yourself, some may not exhibit this group trait. My Son is a Progressive and yet he does not have this trait and in that respect you are similar to him.
Since I misconstrued what it was in my post that you found objectionable, I ended up defending the wrong topic and went after your positive attitude on Marxism.
You are right that I do not know what individual Progressives are thinking. Its just a theory which I have developed after listening to Progressives in depth for the last 12 or 15 years. Hubbard had the same view. Everyone had to toe his party line or they were labled a supressive person and kicked out of his group. Evangelical Christians exhibit this same trait as do militant Islamists.
I saw it as group trait for C of S Scientologists, evangelical Christians, militant Muslims and after years of observing the far left Progressives, I added them into this group as well. When Mark Baker wrote one of his recent posts, he was saying that in a complex society such as ours the rights of private individuals had to be balanced with other areas of responsibility over which we and our government are required to exert stewardship.
That sentence hit me like a bolt from the blue. It seemed true and it provided a theory of why certain groups come to believe that they are the elite and enlightened ones with the only correct point of view and that they are thus entitled to do whatever it takes to assure that their point of view prevails.
I saw that each of the different groups which believes this simply differs on their priorities when carrying out the balancing of responsibilities which MAB referred to.
They Conservatives do not qualify as such a groug though they come pretty close. They believe in Judeo Christian priniciples, the U.S. Constitution and the philosophy of self reliance. With them, however, there is a line they draw as to how far they are willing to go to ensure that their philosophy prevails.
I hope this clears it up for you TAJ, I meant no personal disrespect against you. I did come up with some group traits for the groups you are aligned with but not every member of those groups has those traits. Also, all these things are just my opinions and they definitely are not provable and are in no way scientific. conclusions.

... Conservatives have become almost reactionaries (William F. Buckley would not stand a chance in today's conservative movement). ...
When you say "radical right" today, I think of these moneymaking ventures by fellows like Pat Robertson and others who are trying to take the Republican party and make a religious organization out of it. If that ever happens, kiss politics goodbye.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/politics/daily/may98/goldwater072894.htm
... Journalist Robert MacNeil, a friend of Goldwater's from the 1964 Presidential campaign, recalled interviewing him in his office shortly afterward. "He was sitting in his office with his hands on his cane ... and he said to me, 'Well, aren't you going to ask me about the Iran arms sales?' It had just been announced that the Reagan administration had sold arms to Iran. And I said, 'Well, if I asked you, what would you say?' He said, 'I'd say it's the god-damned stupidest foreign policy blunder this country's ever made!'" ...
... "Do not associate my name with anything you do. You are extremists, and you've hurt the Republican party much more than the Democrats have." ...

Yes, I think TAJ is correct . . . .
Context is important . . . .
We have been talking of events of 100-150 years ago and in the case of "that Pale," well it was created in 1771 (from memory).
Society all throughout that period was rough of all other than the "ruling class." What's new?
I cited that Czar Nich acted to handle and correct injustices among his people in 1905 . . . TAJ makes it appear with his "information" that it was "only to handle some riots." One should note when he came to power, and what he really was addressing at the time. (that's for those who might bother to, for themselves, study the actualities of time and comparative government of affairs around the world.) The Czar could have resorted to the norm of the day . . . noted below . . . but he wrote a manifesto making law the freedom of all his subjects to practice their beliefs and do as they choose.
Folks don't like to recall that in 1920's the British government ordered troops with bayonets drawn against the Irish "rioters."
They don't like to recall that in 1932 President Hoover ordered the army to clear out WW1 veterans camped out in DC protesting and demanding their promised payments of pension and/or bonuses.
Infantry and cavalry supported by six tanks were dispatched with Chief of Staff General Douglas MacArthur in command. Major Dwight D. Eisenhower served as his liaison with Washington police and Major George Patton led the Cavalry. Cavalry and infantry bayonet charged against the veterans . . . a number were killed.
So it is just more of the "make Russia wrong and evil" rhetoric that the socialist-bent "historians" that took over the west's propaganda, that became too easily available in our universities, that paint the picture . . . out of context . . . that sing the song you are quoting, TAJ.
There is more to the world than the socialist song you are singing.
I cite wiki as it is easy for folks to access . . . and even so, I think it is skewed by "liberal"/"socialist" or even bent by those who have other agendas.
You cite lots of stuff . . . . even, well, what was it you were carrying on about about the banks? I simply cited the stats that showed the nation's increasing prosperity . . . you are on about some other non-sequitur thing you have from a long ago post I put up about the difference between Russia's then banking system and that of the West's. Of course, you then earlier attempted to belittle the source I quoted as only being "opinion" . . . when in fact the man lived what he was citing and he quoted and cited experts with hands on detail . . . even correspondence.
You unfortunately are venting your agenda and have before refused
to read and take into account the info I've offered.
Methinks you are practicing the limited and one-sided view that polarizes discussions like this.
The Russia we are discussing, and its rulers cum government, were not perfect . . . we don't even have that now . . . but the facts of events and their time of occurrence are what they are . . . and appreciation of them should be in the context of the progress of our societies and civilization on Earth . . .
Russia actually, in the context of the times we are referring to and its vastness of geographic expanse, did rather well in terms of advancing social justice.
Heavenly perfect? Hell, no.
But not the despotic evil the lefty socialists whose agenda it was to take over the rest of the world . . . . and let's not forget that those who fomented the Russian Revolution then sought to pull the same stunt around the rest of of world and subjugate it with their stealth propaganda.
And the facts are that the propaganda front of this take-over of the rest of the world was cleverly threaded throughout our western literature and learning establishments . . . such as the books you cite.
I prefer to read my history in the context of the times that the history lived and to understand it in that context. Not as revisionist "should be," or as what ought to have been by today's standards and possibilities.
