One of the jokes about Scientology that you can't laugh at until you are out of the cult is that regularly recurring punchline about how the newest level or rundown "removes the final barrier to OT".
Wasn't DMSMH "clearing" supposed to remove the final barrier to OT? Wasn't the "Wall of Fire" the final barrier? I mean NOTS, I mean Solo NOTs, I mean....
And the 2nd half of that joke is that (latest-greatest thing) is the "first real OT Level" because it is the first "positive gain".
Oh yeah, everything up thru OT VII is "negative gain" but suddenly (for no apparent reason) on OT VIII you begin getting "positive gain". What freaking madness all of this is!
WTF is the difference between "negative gain" and "positive gain"? I know Hubbard's explanation, but think about it. Isn't it all predicated on the myth of the trillion-year-old OT that has stupidly lost their magical powers because (although all-powerful and all-knowing super-gods) they were uneducated as a thetan and so trapped themselves in their own postulates? My God, thinking about this stuff would make anyone mentally ill...which I guess is pretty good if you are trying to sell them the "modern science of mental health".
