The black and white horse is Moon our Shire/Paint cross

The black and white cat is Rooster Cogburn our one eyed rescued feral (but not Kev)

The buckskin is Durango our rescued Paso Fino

The Tabby is Kokopelli our first cat - who was picked out of a cardboard box of "free kittens" in our local feedstore about 5 years ago

The black and white dog is a rescue mutt from the Dumb Friends League in Denver - his name is The Artful Dodger

The white dog is Snowby and he is a rescue from the wilds of Wyoming and looks like he is an Akbash

And last but not least the widdle cat is Giselle - she is another feral rescue (from underneath a hay bale at a neighbors barn) and she has the most beautiful delicate pastel and tortoiseshell coloring

The neighborhood church ladies always drop off 16 pound bags of food every month for the strays.. We usually receive 4 or 5 sacks. We had to put our 12 yr old Jesse down last week Monday. He had feline aids and had thrush mouth for the fifth time and was dehydrated and couldn't eat.

Any company I've ever seen that relies on it's sales to survive operates on stats and targets. If the sales people don't keep their stats up, they eventually get fired because the company can't afford to keep them on and pay them. Sales people also get rewards and bonuses in relation to their stats. The Church of Scientology is a business....it runs on stats, just like other businesses outside of Scientology. They are all in business to make money.....but, somehow, Scientologists don't seem to notice that most of the time.

I'd agree that what you say is very true and - as you point out - stats are vital for a business.

My point is this this thread on a message board is not a business . A particular thread may well be the seen as the best accomplishment in life by someone who " created " it. So, some people can get way obsessed over all kinds of details that almost all other people ignore with impunity.

On most boards the mods step in when required, but, there are times when self-appointed board nannies try to tell posters what is and is not allowed to be poster on "their" thread.

Some people really do think they "own" or are entited to "control" a thread independant of the mods or board owner because why ? It IS their thread !

Oh well.

Here on a board that is ESMB we have this thread that seems to currently works very hard to divert attention off anything related to scn or the doings of the " church ".
Who cares, plenty of threads of people having their say about scn.

But, the direction this thread had taken maybe no wonder some people do not want their name associated with what is happening here these days.

I read this thread for humor. I find this thread a riot ( OK, maybe not in the ways some posters intended ). Yet, there was a time there were some serious contributors to the real history of Hubbard, the major players along the way, and the technology itself. That is IMPORTANT stuff that has been buried in trivia - and now, perhaps, " stats ".

As has been suggested before, the good stuff - and make no mistake about it - there has been some really good and important things that have seen the light of day on this thread by the real people who were there either watching it happen firsthand or were directly involved in making it happen. That IS the history that should be pulled out of the trivia.

But, nevermind, dredge up which people no longer want their name on what this thread has become and drool over the "page hits" and maybe even masturbate over the number of views per day. Yeah stats ! Hip Hip Hooray !

Meanwhile, the thread will trudge on no matter how many bumps it takes or who comes or who goes... it has been given a life of its own !

It just amazes me the aversion so many people have to discussing stats here on ESMB. Stats are not something that Hubbard thought up or invented. Just look at the newspaper, "The Wall Street Journal". Half the newspaper is just tables and graphs of stats and the other half is disussing these stats and trying to predict how they are going to move.

I was in aerospace as a computer programmer for 9 years. All we did was design and implement computer programs which spit out reams of stats and graphs. These tables of stats helped us get to the moon and also helped in the development of GPS, the Earth's Global Positioning System and in the development of Missile defense. I worked there, ages 22 - 30 without ever having heard of Hubbard.

Some of the simple minded people on ESMB with little or no business experience seem to equate ANY use of stats with Hubbard and his demand for stats by 2:00 PM every Thursday. This is simply not the case, get over it! Hubbard did not invent the use of stats to manage a business or a project.

Stats are stats, they exist outside of Hubbard's and DM's domain. Stats don't equal Hubbard dont equal Thursday at 2:00 0'clock! Stats cam be usefui, informative and fun and people don't have to shy away from mentioning stats because they might offend some ex Scientologists or remind them of an unpleasant time when they had to produce a weekly stat for C of S.

Its good to be sensitive and not mention something which may offend an ex Scio but on something so all encompassing and general as the subject of statistics I don't feel it at all necessary to avoid mentioning them.

Well Snowby is a bit of a dumb blond I have to admit. Dodger is as smart as all get out and is the "perky" one.

Snowby may lack brilliance but he is fiercely protective - he is tall and graceful and runs like the wind (he really is beautiful to watch) - but he is not all that heavy - he weighs in around 60 pounds. Before we moved into the place we live now we rented a 10 acre place a few miles west, our landlords had two Pyrrenean mountain dogs as guard dogs for their livestock, the tweo huge dogs got out one day and wandered over to our place and they started chasing Kokopelli. Snowby charged down the hillside and just rammed one of the huge dogs (they weighed about 110 pounds) and knocked it sdeways, attacked the other one an for a few minutes it was touch and go until he chased them off.

Our cats LOVE Snowby.

Lakey, did I ever tell you that your avatar reminds me of Rocky. I took him in as a stray and kept him for 14 yrs until he died. He was killed three yrs ago. I am reminded of him every time I see one of your posts...

My God Hats, your Rocky is a complete dead ringer for my avatar cat Bella. They look like twins, also the flows emanating from Rocky's picture are very similar to the flows which Bella puts out.

Bella is a female. My company did a room addition for a man, Rob, in Huntington Beach, CA. At the time, 2004-05, my son was working with me and made friends with that man. About 2007 the family next door to this man picked up a beautiful kitten who they named Bella. In 2008, this family moved away and left Bella behind to fend for herself. Rob started feeding her and after awhile his daughter wanted to adopt Bella but they already had another cat and also a dog.

The existing cat would not except Bella and threw tantrums so reluctantly, Rob decided he had to give her away. He had her fixed, gave her her shots and then offered her to my son. At the time, my son was living with me and my ex wife at home. My son asked my ex wife if he could bring the cat home. My ex reluctantly agreed and so Bella came to our house.

Next, my son moved out and is going to USC Law School in L.A. He loves Bella and tried to take her to live with him but it didn't work out so he offered her to me about 10 months ago. We figure Bella is now about 5, going on 6 and she has been with me and/or my family members for a good 3 years. Now, my daughter moved back in with my ex wife and she has two female cats living there. Molly and Samantha.

Hats, I have many great pictures of Bella. I'll try and post some of them for you. You will see that the resemblance to Rocky is absolutely amazing almost as if they were clones!! I have trouble posting pictures from my camera onto ESMB. I believe you, or was it FoTi, gave me a full cook book type of write up on how to do it and for a while I was an expert at it. However, I have not posted any photos in over a year so I forgot how to do it BUT I still have the write up. I'll post some more photos of Bella soon.

BTW - What type of cat do you consider Rocky and Bella? People tell me that Bella has a strong Persian influence.

My point is this this thread on a message board is not a business . A particular thread may well be the seen as the best accomplishment in life by someone who " created " it. So, some people can get way obsessed over all kinds of details that almost all other people ignore with impunity.

Raising my two kids was my best accomplishment - Also, keeping a marriage together 29 years and still being good friends after a divorce is something to be proud of and then running a local home remodeling company for 36 years, though having no construction background myself, is another point of pride.

As far as starting this thread, that is not the best accomplishment in life. If that is one's best accomplishment, they haven't had much of a life. Starting a thread gives one some exposure and a little name recognition on ESMB and provides a place where you can state your opinions and have a few dozen or a few hundred or maybe even a few thousand people read what you say. That's about it - I mean ESMB is not that big of a forum, Scientology itself or ex - Scientology are specialty fields, not a big arena widely read by the general public.

I just decided to keep the hat of the OP or host. It's not my thread but I feel qualified to host it. When someone new shows up, I welcome them. I try and acknowledge well written posts, escpecially ones I don't fully agree with. Other people don't have the time for this type of thing. I am retired now and have time to host the thread.

I don't think we are working very hard to divert attention off of the doings of the church and as you point out plenty of other threads are talking about scn.

We've covered just about everything there is to cover in that area. Sometimes there is a lull when not many new and major things are happening and so someone will post a photo display on wildlife or cats, dogs or nature and someone else will post some good rock music while another will post classical music.

Let some major thing occur, such as the Debbie Cook story and this thread always has extensive discussion about it.

You make some good points here. Yes the humor has been here including good common sense wisdom of the kind Will Rogers used to dispense. You and Face have provided some of the down home wisdom in a humorous manner. Another good point is that the thread is so large that a lot of the major contributions about the history, the major players along the way and the tech are now buried among trivia.

Here again, it would be nice if this thread was culled and the most meaningful articles pulled out and put into an ebook. I don't know if anybody will actually do this but it should be done. We have a treasure hear of brilliant articles!!!

I just can't conceive of why this bothers you! I mentioned that the number of names listed as reading the thread dropped in 4 days from 428 down to 424 so some people are choosing the option to delist their name. I made no effort to find out which people did that. I thought someone might make a comment that OSA was on the move now, reading ESMB and that was why people were delisting.

On the hits, I think that is interesting. You can bet that if we reach 1,000,000 hits, several of us will mention it. That would be quite an achievement on a specialized website such as ESMB. I use the hits category to determine if it is worth my time to post here. If hits were 100 a day, I might only spend 15 minutes a day reading and posting on ESMB. If hits are 1,500 a day, I might spend an hour and a half. How does that hurt you? I just don't get it.

Why not apply live and let live in the area of how many hits a site gets. You don't think it is relevant and I like tracking it. Why do we have to agree. Can't with both just do what we like as long as it doesn't hurt anybody?

Okay, this is a good well thought out post said from the heart! Thanks for posting it! I just want to make a couple of comments in red up in the text.

Basically, I just started out wanting to tell my CCLA and Apollo stories. I was a minor figure in Scientology, nobody special, just the Dir of Disbursements at a class IV Org. That's all this was meant to be originally. Sweetness and Light first PMed me that I was a good story teller and urged me to expand the thread and keep it going.

Carmelo, who was close friends with some of those I was mentioning in my story took an interest and PMed me. He came up with the idea of keeping the thread going and discussing other topics. I thought it would be fun and chipped in what I could. After page 20-22 my portion of the thread is completely over.

Carmelo and I could have chosen a new name for our joint venture thread and we discussed doing that but in the end we mutually decided to keep the original name. The Apollo thread was fairly well known by then and had some name recognition. From a marketing standpoint, keeping the name was probably a good idea but from a purist standpoint, we probably should have made up a completely different name so as not to mislead people.

Toad, try some new tactic will you please. I like that country boy down home humor that you do so well, something like "Don Imus in the Morning" radio. Pat Butram, Gene Autry's sidekick, had that same type of humore as did the great Will Rogers.

Example - Pat Butram once talked about the Mayor of L.A. back in the early 70's, Sam Yorty. Pat said, "Sam Yorty, why he's the best mayor in the Country.......well now, thats in the country, when it comes to the City, that's a different storry." He added, "When I think of what Yorty has done for the air in the City of Los Angeles, it brings tears to my eyes."

I used to consider Rocky to be part Russian blue. But he was just a Heinz 57, a mutt. I like em that way. He was starving to death and chasing a mouse under the dried leaves, curbside when I met him. He was the love of my life.
