As Face says "frenetic, stultifying and all around F'd up of an experience" . . . . this picture on the cover of the record is definitely not a picture of "the way to happiness"

I've never seen such a miserable looking lot of musicians . . .they look like the joy has been sqwished and wrung right out of them.

Hubbard looks like he's being haunted by ghosts! :nervous:

R

To me he looks like he's got the mother of all hang-overs~ pretty sure benzidrine/coke and rum are mighty fine for musical inspiration :p

Lordy, everytime I see pictures of Hubbard and his 'crew' I can almost feel the confused angst deep inside, the swirl of conflictig emotions (fuck I hate you LRon! But I love you fearless leader!), poor fuckers *sigh*
Some of the stories of his photo-shoots are epic too!

I've found some backing dox on the pro singer part - also from the same site!

Ah yes, a true pirate himself was. Indeedy do. Inspiration of me nic, well actually no, my nic comes from PDC Lecture 1.

But I don't recall Face telling us about the lovely times on board listening to ukulele-backed sea chanteys sung by hisself? Wus up wid dat Face? It sounds so amazingly awesome, I mean ukelele really just makes me swoon.

I missed out on the ukelele serenades.

However, I do have a story about Hisself I'm gonna tell in my next Shooting Stars Installment that, to me, is kinda sorta similar.

Fillin’ In Some Gaps

Mimsey’s recent questions brought to my attention that I had left out some of the details of the Power of Source story—details that are actually part of the “dots” that connect to make the picture I have been attempting to draw with Shooting Stars.
… the record POS must have gotten lousy reviews, and sales must have tanked a few days after the release as the word got around and it was obvious that POS was a P.O.S. - how did Ron A) not know it tanked? B) deal with it if he did know?

And, did his other Clear Sound products feature the same Zero Boost Flat Line technology? Or did he /Gold wise up?
At the end of Shooting Stars, Part Three I wrote;

“Several days later the EV’s received the word from El Ron that they had done a "fantastic job, Very Highly Commended, Very Well Done"…new Mission orders were on their way.

In the new “Mission Information” Packet L. Ron Clouseau explained what really was going on. H had been conduction (sic) “Research” into the “Existing Scene” of the Hollywood Music Industry.

LRC’s (sic) revealed that H's secret intention all along was for POS to be a “Pilot Project” to “test” how well Pubs US could release, handle and market a new El Ron product.”

Shooting Stars, Part Four primarily dealt with the POS International release event at the Manor Hotel in Hollywood. At that time, Celebrity Centre was still located on 8th Street, near the LA Org and AOLA. The Manor was a Hotel/Residence for Scns and Offices/Berthing for FOLO WUS (Flag Operations Liaison Office Western United States) and the USGO Headquarters Offices (United States Guardians Office).

The release event was held in the Glass Pavilion…or whatever the restaurant/ballroom was called at The Manor.

Selling & Delivering The Power of Source

POS was never released via a real Record Company—it was released by L. Ron Clouseau’s Source Music Incorporated and the Music Publishing Rights were held by LRC’s Tone 40 Music Incorporated.

LRC’s reaction to the reaction and reception of those “Hollywood Record Business Birds” was an “I’m above it all”…”I was just testing them”…”POS has a far more important role to play in our future operating plans than can be served by placing it in their greedy mitts.”

The POS Release Events were one Project of an El Ron Special Program that involved all Networks. While the Release Event at The Manor was handled personally by LRH Personal Public Relations Officer and the Deputy Guardian US PR, all Orgs had Release Event Project Orders and all the Management Units, Networks and GO Offices had El Ron and MSH Orders to get them done now, Now, NOW!

Everyone at the event…including staff…was to be sold a POS album…whether or not they had a record player was not an excuse. They were to be sold albums for “gifts’ for friends and acquaintances…Scns, Wogs. The Album was to be played regularly in the Org. The GO had “canned” favorable reviews they were to get circulated and published and to cultivate and use existing contacts to get cuts played on local radio stations wherein they could “control” a favorable comment.

Sound Familiar?

Pubs US had several Missions fired in to “shake up” the Sales Dept and “shake down” the Shipping Dept. With the Missions at Pubs, intense pressure throughout all the echelons of “Management” and the LRH Orders to the Orgs, huge stocks of POS were “sold” within a matter of a week…to the Orgs. A huge wad of dough came out of HCO Book Accounts and flooded into Pubs US before virtually anyone in the World had heard one POS cut off of POS.

There was never any attempt to set up distribution with “Wog” record stores or sell to the general public at large ergo there never was any “rejection” as far as Hiself was concerned. To El Ron; Scns Loved It! Scns Bought Tons of It! The Orgs and Pubs made Wheelbarrows full of dough from It! At least that was Hisself’s Shore Story.

Now, for the rest of the story…
El Ron, one way or another, had all the Copy Rights, Royalty Rights, Professional Fee’s Due Billings, final Signatory control…and whatever else Hisself wished to pad on…to every last penny…and, the “Hard Costs” outside of the Indentured Servant virtual Slave Labor, was the nominal (compared to sales price) disc manufacturing, dust jacket printing, packaging and shipping costs—sans any and all Taxes, of course.

ClearSound

As far as “ClearSound” goes, as far as I know, it’s still the same stuff as POS with some very important exceptions.

1. POS was recorded in a small, decrepit theater. The later ClearSound stuff was done in an actual professional quality studio.

2. POS was recorded with inferior, garage band quality at best microphones that were pretty banged up and used. ClearSound was high quality State of the Art Microphones.

3. POS was recorded on a portable mixing board that was being used for the first time. Clear Sound was full State of the Art Studio Boards.

4. POS was recorded and Mastered without using the RIAA Curve (Standardized Record Industry Constant Equalization Calculation) which made the disc grooves jagged and banged the stylus around causing severe distortion and playback information loss. Somewhere along the line someone got across to Hisself that without using the “Wog Tech” of the RIAA Curve every record El Ron ever put out would sound like crap no matter what (I don’t know this for a fact but I bet it was probably Jon Horwich). As a side note, the math behind the RIAA Curve is a nice piece of real world practical engineering which, methinks, would have made it particularly abhorrent and useless to El Ron, PhD, Nuclear Physicist, Civil Engineer.

As I wrote early in Shooting Stars, ClearSound was nothing “New” by El Ron. Long before ClearSound a number of Professional Recording Engineers—most notably Doug Sax, The Mastering Lab and Sheffield Records—turned out some fabulous live, direct to Lacquer Master and Master Tape recordings done “true” and “pure”. Sax, for a reasonable fee (all things considered), offered El Ron that if Hisself would send him the original 16 track tapes he would meticulously go through and fix—as best he could—and re-mix the mess or, better yet, for a handsome fee, he would re-record the Stars and show El Ron how to use his new toy. Needless to say, that was a nonstarter.

Which brings me to a little L. Ron Clouseau vignette that, to me, is apropos here.

At a few various and fleeting times over the years, on the Apollo and afterwards, there existed small El Ron Personal Security Units and Missionaire Units. Over time in these Units were some pretty capable and very physically fit fellas…former Green Berets, US Army Intelligence Officers, College Grads, Viet Nam Vets, etc. Most all of them were former accomplished High School/College Athletes and, to varying skill levels, adept at some form of martial arts…Boxing, Tai Chi, Karate, Wrestling, etc.

The guys in the Units were real “tight” and would do work-out sessions together where they would “cross pollinate”…teach each other “moves” from their self-defense disciplines and preferred training regimens. Nearly all of them did some form of weight/resistance training and were very well schooled at it…Light weights, multi set high repetition for definition, strength, explosiveness, flexibility, stamina as opposed to heavy weights for bulk and muscle mass.

One day the CommodeDoor happened by—nubile entourage en tow—to the shirtless sweating huffing and puffing Unit as they were pumping iron and doing calisthenics.

“Aww, no!” Whined Hisself. ”No, no, no! Don’tcha know that lifting weights is bad for you?” At which point El Ron veered into an off the cuff lecture about some “Tech” reason why weight lifting was “baaad”.

El Ron finished his impromptu casting of pearls with this final gem, “What you chaps need to do is run with a can of tomato soup in each hand…you’ll get big arms and get in shape in no time.” Hisself then proceeded to demonstrate in ultra-slow motion a prissy, sissy and goofy style a few steps of how one should move their arms and legs when doing tomato soup can training. And, with that…face a little flushed from Hisselfs exertions…El Ron Schwarzenegger and covey waddled off to dispense further utterances at another venue elsewhere.

Now I ask you, my friends, just where would the whole entire agonized future of us all be without the invention of the soup can?

Although the “Product Life Cycle” of POS was short, a nice little chunk of change for El Ron was extracted from the Org’s Book Accounts for a crappy, juvenile product produced for chump change with relatively very little effort on El Ron’s part…other than the manic marathon recording session, but, that’s how Hisself liked to “work”, “produce” and “create” most of the time anyway.

I’m gonna go on a walkabout in a few days and visit some friends and family so it’ll be a couple or three weeks before I put up Part Nineteen, which will be more fillin’ in some inadvertent gaps I found elsewhere in Shooting Stars.

Peace.

Priceless as always, Face! Thanks for this.

I remember reading somewhere that muscles from weight lifting were condensed facsimiles or something.

Amazing just how much Ron knew and how many topics, areas and fields he was an expert and master in.

Just how many fields was he a successful professional in again? Anyone remember?

For instance rumor has it that he was a masturbator with low hanging testes.

un-fucking-believable....

Listening to POS with the rest of the SO staff at USLO
was the most humiliating moment in my sea org career..
I was embarrassed for $cn as I endured it...

This is "Ron" the Madman saying physics does not apply my delusions...

This is evidence of the depth of his paranoid schizophrenia, evidence of his ignorance and stupidity.

Thank you for posting this!

For those inquiring minds wanting to know...

L. Ron Hubbard has been aptly described as “a man ahead of his time, defying any simple categorization.” Fully professional in more than 29 different fields, his life was one of constant adventure.

This modest piece can be read by any who choose by going here: The L. Ron Hubbard Life Exhibition.

It's from the FreeDumb mag.

Face, what rare treat & delight to read your latest chapters as one of the premiere (and truthful) LRH BIOGRAPHER(s)!

That term itself has been so entirely corrupted by Hubbard and his assigns that it rates inclusion into the Orwellian version of Big Commodore's Dinky Dictionary of Deceit, under the auspices of 'DoubleTech'.

LRH Biographer. 1. The author of a true and factual life history of L. Ron Hubbard. 2. (Scn Idio[STRIKE]m[/STRIKE]t) The terminal posted to standardly disseminate the "true and factual life history of L. Ron Hubbard".

After reading your current entry in the incredibly entertaining & cathartic chronicle of Hisself Hubbard's Hypocritical History (and doing a contact assist on those abominable tunes in the Power of Source) I had to have my e-meter refitted so that the tone arm dial would go up to 11.

So many thanks and do do do write more! If you ever eventually run out of material, don't let us know and just continue with made-up weirdly wacky stories, we'll never know the difference! LOL.

Too bad. The Mastering Lab and Sheffield Records are practically synonymous with quality audio. They can make noise sound appealing.

My only remembrance of POS was having the regges at the local mission try to enveigle me to buy a copy, cassette I think. It would have been around '79. I suspect it was one of Bridge's marketing pushes at the time. After hearing a little of it I politely declined. Even they chose not to push it. :coolwink:

Thanks for the background, Face.

Face, one of the things that bubbled to the surface for me as I read " Shooting Stars " one post of yours to the next ( and skipping we other posters chatter ) it became evident the hisself was scared - and the older he got the more scared he became. Makes for one weird mess of not only his life but lots & lots of others, too.

It just never got better for him - and ended up with him hiding & pretty much secluded from life. Not pretty.
