Re: Cat Herder sees Home of Attack & Degrade !

Not to drag up the drama again but I just want to say that as far as I know Lakey is a gentleman, he always attempts to see the other side of things and to be fair with everyone he deals with, I think if anything that may be his downfall.

Perhaps he cares too much.

Anyway there are fun people on this thread that don't take things too seriously and very few that come on all supercilious and 'tekky' when it suits them.

ESMB needs to stay fun IMO and not turn into a mini org with "execs and ethics officers" skulking about ready to pounce on every perceived 'outpoint'.

Stay being yourself Lakey ... you are absolutely OK as you are (you might want to dump all that tek significance though, it's no good for you at all).

:batseyelashes:

Alas, it seems it has come to pass that this fine thread has runs its course by exhausting its original purpose and is therefore left to turn on itself.

It came to me in a flash that I could back to the " Glory Days " of this aging
( if not dying ) thread and ferret out of the tens of thousands of posts some particularly choice ones and quote them into the forefront for all to share anew.

There were good days, mellow days, times when topics moved along with interest and people could exchange thoughts without declaring war & getting pissed at friends for being kind to ones perceived enemies.

Now off to browse for theads to bring forth for all to share. This is a " Raise the Apollo " endeavor.

There is no time table or limit on this mission to save the whatever !

Meanwhile.....a joke.............or two to liven up this joint !

:)
While walking down the street one day a Corrupt Senator (that may be redundant) was tragically hit by a car and died.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

"Welcome to heaven," says St.. Peter. "Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you."

"No problem, just let me in," says the Senator.

"Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from the higher ups. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity."

"Really?, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven," says the Senator.

"I'm sorry, but we have our rules."

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course.

In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They played a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and the finest champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly guy who is having a good time dancing and telling jokes.

They are all having such a good time that before the Senator realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises.

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens in heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him, "Now it's time to visit heaven...â€

So, 24 hours passed with the Senator joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

"Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity."

The Senator reflects for a minute, then he answers: "Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell."

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell...

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls to the ground.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulders.

"I don't understand," stammers the Senator. "Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable. What happened?"

The devil smiles at him and says,
"Yesterday we were campaigning,

Today, you voted.."

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

It's like your uncle Harry, your mom's older brother, he doesn't always have his ducks in line. Sometimes he pushes the wrong elevator button, gets off at the wrong floor, walks in the wrong apartment, and then people get all excited.

There's a joke my wife and I tell each other:

Moe and Harry are talking in the family room, while their wives are in the kitchen.

Moe tells Harry about the great restaurant he and his wife ate at the other night. "The portions were large, the waiter was quick and polite. My water glass never went empty. It was cheap wine, but delicious. I left a big tip."

Harry wants to know the name of it.

Moe says to Harry,"You know that flower with the thorns?"

Harry replies, "You mean a rose."

"Yeah.

Hey Rose! What's the name of that restaurant we ate at the other night?"

Yes....seniors do tend to forget things and get things a little mixed up sometimes.....I know I do and so do most of my friends these days. It tends to make one look a little foolish, and they sometimes get defensive, especially if they don't recognize it in themselves. I do miss the sharpness of my youth and I'm sure others do as well. One friend who is 78 asked me the other day if I thought she was getting alzheimers. I have another friend who is in her early 80's....she can't remember what I told her 5 minutes ago and then she gets pissed off at me because she can't remember it.

Everyone ages....there is no escaping it. If they live long enough, age is often accompanied with a lessening of one's senses and mental sharpness. It seems to me that most younger people don't really know what this is like until they eventually arrive there themselves.....at least I didn't.

A little patience and understanding goes a long way when relating to those who are in the autumn or winter of their years. Picking them apart doesn't help them at all.....it only confuses and upsets them.

Some can joke about what's happening to them as they get older, some can't.

Peace. :love8:

Re: Note on Pilot’s Post – Past Present Future

Many thanks for the posts on this subject (some of which I have not thanked, since I read what the ESMB sent me by email).

After reading these and having further thought I have decided to go ahead with the plan to put the Pilot'sReposts on an independent thread.

I have most of the introductory article prepared but lack a title for the thread. The title: Ken Ogger, The Pilot speaks from the dead does not seem too good, since my aim is to repost some of Ken Ogger's thoughts, rather than draw attention to his death - sort of positioning him as a dead pilot. I could use the title The Pilot, Excerpts from his Writing but that seems a bit tame. Since the title is something which lasts the life of the thread, I don't want to be too hasty about it, and therefore am wondering wondering if any one has a better suggestion. Do you? Something which would attract the sort of people who would like to see some positive ideas about Scientology and reforming it.

Quoting parts of Mark's post:

Mark explained to me (thank you Mark) how I put some one on ignore. It seems a good idea for a spectator, but for the instigator of the thread, it seems like putting one's head in the sand. Not a wise thing.

Re the last line quoted, I seem to have become positioned as a frail old man who really needs a herd of "keepers". If you want to position me in your mind, I'd prefer something like "a wise, persistent (in the sense used in Science of Survival) and pigheaded thetan with some purposes to pursue whatever the consequences, running a robust body that has run past its 'use before' date".

Appreciate it if you have a bright idea on the title.

All best wishes,

Antony

PS. I don't think I will post them here and on its own thread, as suggested, partly because it seems to need double the formatting work. I might refer to it when I post, certainly the first one, but it will be every Wednesday.

Perhaps, if you are putting them in another thread, you could just put a link here to the other thread, each time you post there. Sometimes other threads get buried in all that's going on and are hard to find. If there is a new link here each Wednesday, those that come here can keep up with your postings on the other thread.

Or is it possible to put those writings in a blog and add each new one to the same blog without having people replying in that blog so that people could go there and read the writings without having to wade through a bunch of responses......a link could be posted in the thread to the blog and then people could come back to the thread and post their responses there? Or is that too complicated?

I hope this isn't too confusing.....

And, to me, old age without a sense of humor would ne unbearable.

And I am an old man.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I believe Foti has just solved the 'issue' ... Blog it (here) and link via this thread each time you post, that way you won't get any (or many) negative responses from people, but will provide the data for those that are genuinely interested and satisfy your own need to get it out there.

Seems perfect.

Carmelo and FoTi, you guys are right on the money with these comments!! Besides getting older, I am taking prescription drug medications daily for high blood pressure and these definitely lessen mental sharpness as well. Pushing the wrong button on the elevator and then walking into the wrong apartment is a perfect metaphor!!!

Two weeks ago, I visited a friend's house in South Pasadena about about 30 miles from my house, spent the day there and remembered using my cell phone. The next morning, I could not find it. I figured that I must have left it at my friend's house but since I had no phone and pay phones no longer exist, I could not call him to verify. I decided to drive there to retrieve my cell phone. When I got there, we could not find the phone. My friend's wife told me to return home and in 1 hour's time, she would call my cell phone and suggested that it might ring inside my house.

I drove home, completing a 60 mile "wild goose chase" while pissing away 3 gallons of $4.35 gas! Sure enough, at the designated time, I could hear my phone ringing. Where was it? I had put it at the foot of my bed, then thrown my underwear on top of it to sleep naked and then had read the newspaper until I fell asleep, tossing the newspaper down on top of the underwear just as I was dozing off. I tore the whole house apart, every nook and cranny but never looked underneath the newspaper lying at the foot of my bed!!!

One does not lose their recall in a linear, predictable fashion. I work the Suddoko puzzle daily in the newspaper plus do a Crytogram word puzzle and the Crossword puzzle as well and that mental exercise is helping keep my mind alert. I can still answer a lot of questions on Jeopardy very rapidly.

The things that seem to be failing are things such as remembering where I leave my cell phone, my keys, my sunglasses, etc or losing my train of thought while in a conversation. Also, I did walk into the lady's restroom at a foreign restaurant recently. Fortunately, no one was in their using the facilities and I bolted out of there like a scared cat! Memories of the distant past don't seem to be effected very much, but maybe just a little.

My kids, now 25 and 29 think I am pre-Alzheimers but the last 3 or 4 visits with them, I was very sharp and had no mental lapses so now they say that I am not.

The thing about accusing Smila falsely of bashing me arose because Mr. Nobody copied his own post before writing a follow up post. Somehow, when seeing Mr. Nobody's post being quoted, I felt it was not he who had written it so I figured it had to Smila because the two of them were engaging in a dialogue. I've copied my own post sweveral times so I could reference it in making a new post and am familiar with the technique but when other's do it, I don't connect the dots. I have made this same type of slip up several times on ESMB.

No, this is not an effort to "make self right"! I admit I was wrong and am explaining why.

When gasoline is $4.35 a gallon and you spend 1 1/2 hours driving 60 miles in traffic for nothing and also waste about 3 gallons of gas, you began to field like an idiot. I guess that's part of the aging process. Yes, poking fun at us or criticizing us for senility definitely exacerbates the situation!

That little misunderstanding doesn't matter at all. We all misunderstand things from time to time.

Here we are on Gay Pride Day....a nd Lakey must be posting from a Starbucks !

Anyway " criticizing us for senility definitely exacerbates the situation " misses the mark so widely !

To leave the house involves what we call " An Easter Egg Hunt " as my wallet has to be found right after I find & put on my wrist watch. Eventually the car keys show up & all is left is a massive search for my glasses - which, as it turns out, I've had around my neck the whole time. Half an hour or more pissed away. This is an oft repeated ritual at our house.

The major I reason I have a cell phone is to call my wife to find hers or - more likely - her to call mine so we can find it. This can happen more than once day,

My new iphone lasted until the first trip we took a week after I got it. I liked it.
A few gallons of gas wasted ? How about several hunders bucks ! Now THAT was stupid. LOL ! My head is not only screwed on it is plain screwed !

We LAUGH heartily at these foibles of getting old.... Getting lost mide sentence ? Having no clue of what was said 2 minutes ago ?

This is NOT the world conspiring aginst one to make them look, OMG, foolish.

No, not at all. This is life as life progresses into old age and ultimately death.

My grandfather asked my grandmother everyday where his slippers were and her answer was always the same " Right there by your chair ".

And my father when older asked my mother where his pipe was " Right there on the table beside you".

And me and my cell phone.

As we get older, yes, our memory begins to fade and for some our mind begins to fade too.

But, Dear God, see the humor in it. Do not recoil a la Hubbard and feel people have turned on you & betrayed you and all that silly shit.

Lighten up. Laugh at ourselves. Enjoy life ..well, what's left of it anyway.

I'm off to a party ( it is Gay Pride Day ! ) and with any luck I might see Lakey there.

But, trust me. if he is naked I'll act like I don't even know him!

PS - At our age, laughter may not only be the best medicine it may be the only medicine.

PPS - For the side effects of those meds ( particularly statins ) take CoQ10 to help lift that mental 'fog'. ( Costco has 300mg tablest very reasonably priced ).

PPPS - That dreaded disease where we lose our mind ? Already told my wife if I get that just drive somewhere far away from here, open the door, put me out. leave me on the curb.
I won't know the difference and she won't waste any of her life taking care of a mindless old pain in the ass invalid. See? No problem.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

How ' bout trying to walk out the front to " Honey, you might to rethink your outfit and change either your shirt, your pants or both !"

&

" Honey, did you notice your shirt is buttoned wrong " ?

Or, in the car...

" Honey, zip your pants before we get out of the car, OK " ?

No wonder people with no sense of humor go insane !

Re: Food for a Week

Photos of a week's food for a variety of families across the world.

http://lci.typepad.com/leaders_resourcing_leader/files/Foodcomparisons.pdf

Some prices seem very high, such as Germany's. Some prices seem fair and others look like a good deal, such as in Egypt and Ecuador. For the really poor countries one's heart just goes out to them and the question is, what can be done to help nourish these people? The quality and variety of diets vary around the world but except for the extremely poor countries pictured, the variety and quality appear good.

Prices are highly influenced by the degree of development of a cash economy. Relative prices in germany are likely to be lower than in the less developed areas. These latter tend to lack well functioning cash economies as well as reduced access to varied foods.

Germany has both a highly functioning cash economy and access to copious food sources allowing the residents there to enjoy 'luxury' food items on a regular basis.

Thanks for your post MAB but I don't fully understand it. My personal interest in visiting any of these countries would be only to vacation there or to move to one of them permanently as a retired person. Moving there, getting a job and becoming a resident is out of the picture for me due to my age.

Also, don't all of the countries of the European Union have similar access to copious food sources as Germany or is Germany better off than other EU members in this regard?
