ABSOLUTLEY B-R-I-L-L-I-A-N-T, RD!!!:yes::thumbsup::clap:

Re: Socrates/El Ron...

Socrates drank the Hemlock as opposed to fleeing and Life without Honor after refusing to not speak Truth regardless the consequences when on Trial before his fellow Citizens
El Ron took the Visteral whilst dying awash in Hisself's Sea of Lies while hiding after fleeing to avoid consequenes from his fellow Citizens seeking the Truth by Trial.

And many who got conned by Hubbard are also too embarrassed to talk about it...

So his "church" continues to it again as well. :duh:

Good post. Funny.

Below is a modified version of the (Apple Computer commercial) 'Here's to the crazy ones' video, using only the voice over by Richard Dreyfuss. An early Apple version featured people such as Einstein, etc. This Independent Scientology version, made about a year ago, produced "VGIs" amongst Independent Scientologists. At the time, certain journalists were being courted by Independent Scientology. These journalists have not responded as favorably as expected and, these days, might not be likely to be appearing in an up-to-date version.

Somewhere, there's a painting of Hubbard featured with the great thinkers and freedom fighters of history. Couldn't find it anywhere, so this will have to do...

Aristotle gave us Aristotlean Logic
Hubbard gave us the Data Series

More pathetically, Hubbard replaced Aristotelean logic with "infinity valued logic." Aristotle (and later, Boole) had two-valued (true/false) propositions, and a mathematics for manipulating them. In the 1950s, probably when Hubbard came up with this particular piece of nonsense, logicians started to look at "modal" logic, extending Boolean logic with operators like "possibility," "necessity" and "impossibility." You could (inaccurately but simplistically) call this "three valued logic."

So Hubbard, being the clever little megalomanic that he was, read some Reader's Digest article about modal logic, and decided to "improve" on their work, by making something up and then calling his drivel "infinity valued logic," which, to a logician (I know a couple people with Ph.D.'s in logic and asked one of them about this) means "absolutely no formalized system of logic at all." In other words, "infinity valued logic" is a complete and utter oxymoron. But to those who can grasp the essential idea of two-valued and three-valued logic (but who don't know anything about the meta-logic behind the importance of formalization), it sure makes Hubbard sound smart, that he's found the perfect way to turn ordinary morons into super-intellectuals with super thinking powers.

As I recall, Marty Rathbun's blog contains some interesting comments about how freakin' brilliant "infinity valued logic" is as a way of thinking about reality, when it is in fact no system at all.

I think you got it all wrong. Hubbard may have called his "infinite value logic" which may be silly and misleading, but the basic idea goes back a long way.

For earlier times this was addressd see Aristotle's discussion on future contingency

Also look at many-valued logic (I'm not sure of the title of his publications) by Jan Lukasiewicz (who gave it that name)from 1911 to 1918.

Many valued logic has been taught in some symbolic logic classes since then.

Also look up Polish Logic (there is a joke there). This predated World War II

Also many value logic by Post (I can't think of his first name) around 1930.

Many valued logic also found its way into discussion of language in the school of Logical Posivitism, which covers a lot of philosophers from Russell to Wittgenstein.

They were not concerned with it particularly, and didn't go into it in detailed, because they were only concern about how it relates to logic in language.

And all that was before Hubbard mentioned it.

What people think Hubbard came up with has been openly discussed specifically by name for over 100 years.

There are several Scientologists who have tried to convince me that Hubbard discovered the Fibonacci sequence.

I tell them it is called the Fibonacci sequence because Fibonacci discovered it in 1202.

All told me that as far as they were concerned, Hubbard came up with it because not they or anyone else ever heard of it before.

Some people (okay, Scientologists) often make the mistake of thinking because they first heard it from Hubbard, that this means he came up with it.

Except for some niggling details (e.g. Lukasiewicz was the original Pole in Polish Logic, etc.) this was an excellent post. Hubbard did much which was false, misleading, and intentionally deceitful. However, many of the actual problems created as a result of the misconceptions spread in scientology have been as a result of excessively credulous individuals who were themselves uninterested in any learning apart from that represented by the word of ron.

Does that apply to the children that Hubbard used as his slaves? I hope you're not saying that they deserved what happened to them because they weren't "bright" enough.
