OK, so I read the transcript. It seems to me that all he is doing is rehashing what he has seen in books by Linda Moulton-Howe and Corso etc, the usual suspects.

That seems to be the only thing that he did personally, other than quoting others as if he was corroborating what they said merely because of his prior political positions. But what was the thing he did personally to confirm the contents of the book? I don't know what he is saying: there are no details and the Retired United States General bit doesn't make sense as written.

So after confirming the contents of the book, the Retired United States General, I accepted the invitation of Victor Viggiani and his co-hort Mike Byrd, to speak at a symposium at the University of Toronto and I said; "UFO's are as real as the airplanes flying overhead." That gave me the dubious distinction of being the first cabinet member of government rank in the G8 group of countries to say so unequivocally.

This is not the same as Aliens (as in Extraterrestrials).
And, if some bloke down the pub ‘confirmed’ that Aliens did exists (“That’s right mate, seem ‘em meself. Ugly buggers they were wot wiv their slimy green skin and all. Nearly made me piss me beetles an ants.”) would that constitute proof? So why does some bloke in the Canadian guvmint have any more credibility unless he presents actual, verifiable proof?

Paul Hellyer doesn't confirm the existence of aliens... only that he believes in them, saying he saw one himself.

Years ago, I asked my dad if he had seen any UFO's when he was in the navy.
He said they saw them all the time and had been told by their captain...... to ignore them, which I found strange.
and yes, I did have a personal reason for asking him....I had seen one too, only it didnt look anything like what other people had been saying they looked like. As I had been seriously stoned at the time, I decided that that thankfully, disqualified me as a real eyewitness, so I didnt need to say anything about it at the time, or for decades.
