Wow...just...wow. Every time I think I have a grip on how effed up Scientology can be I'm shown just how far off I am. This is a story I hadn't known about and it absolutely broke my heart. A big THANK YOU to Karen and our fellow boardies for bringing this up and for caring as you do. I am so very glad to hear that he's off the streets and is hopefully receiving the care and support he needs and deserves. I really hope this family can heal and move forward together and have the chance to build the bonds they couldn't before. I would also like to join in saying that any further updates on this would be wonderful.

Scientology, it's always worse than you think.

I have also witnessed them fleecing "illegal PC's" for donations to the Ideal Org Buildings and IAS. Funny how their money is not "illegal" but what this Church is doing - IS! Fleecing people with no intention to help anyone ever!

I knew a young person whose mother was on staff and who received auditing -mainly to help him with his mental problems - He was a shy person and used to help at the org.

his mother died of cancer and he kept coming to the org. Then, his mental health deteriorated completely and he was put into a mental/psych ward in an hospital and then into a home, run by the government for people with mental problems.

The reg and mainly, the Book Officer solicited donations from him many times even though he was a psych case.:bigcry:

Sheila,

I am going to be brutally honest here.
There is ONLY one facility that helped him back to sanity and got him off the streets.
The Department of Mental Health. Not family.

Some of his family have re-connected as in visitations. My poor wording. They have re-connected, not re-united.

I cannot in all truthfulness allow credit to go where there is none. Sorry.

love to you Sheila,

Ah well, hope there's still time to edit my post.... :coolwink:

Love ya. And all the caring, conscientious, compassionate professionals, psychiatrists, administrators, etc., who made this happen so Serge doesn't have to suffer any more.

I'm a bit confused here, Karen. The video, by it's wording,

.. " and his family who were formerly "Sea Org clergy" are re-united with him."
( 7:27 )

is what you are correcting? The video above implies that the parents are involved. I just want to make sure I understand it correctly, that the parents are involved. To whatever degree. Is this correct?

Thanks

Yes, Anonymary.
My wording was ambiguous.
He has had visits from the family and in that sense they are re-united after years of separation.
My point was directed to Sheila who had written a post thinking Family members had risen to the occasion.
There was no family rescue or rehabilitation.
That was done by Los Angeles County Mental Health officials.

A number of people, including myself, have been begging..pleading.. for the County of Los Angeles & the City of Los Angeles & Glendale to do something to assist Serge. The response, if we got one, was a bureaucratic bullshit statement that officials are doing all they can to assist the mentally ill homeless.

I appreciate Karen for making the video & KAT for her 2012 film on Serge.. KAT is a photographer/videographer that has made over 3,800 videos from celebrities to the plight of the homeless in Los Angeles. Serge, like so many homeless, have not only had to endure life on the gritty streets of LA, but he was harassed by police in Los Angeles, Glendale & Salt Lake City.

Gary Scarff,
I failed to acknowledge you earlier, and you should have been on that list. Thank you.
The actual point here, though I failed to pump it up enough in this video, (perhaps in a subsequent video) is that DESPITE this catastrophic tragedy on the child of 2 Sea Org members...the Sea org members continued their 60 to 80 hour weeks for the "Mother Church"

mr Bad wrote this on OCMB :
What I'm about to tell you is a true story. Serge Obelinsky is a real person who grew up in the Sea Org. His stepmother Debbie Obelinsky worked in the Treasury Division over at CC International, Scientology's premier org. They used to call CC the "Oasis of Creative Freedom" whatever that means.

This story begins with Serge working as an RPF slave renovating CC International (The Manor Hotel as well) until the Great and Benevolent Douche Miscavenge granted all the RPF slaves an amnesty, and then, all the RPF slaves became Manor Hotel slaves.

So, Serge was working in the Manor. He would alternate between working as a galley slave and housekeeper slave. Basically, he worked where ever he was most useful.

Serge wasn't the sharpest tool in the shed, but he was a nice guy. He was, and to my knowledge still is a very nice guy. I barely knew him though. I sat out in front of the PAC canteen after work around 11:00 p.m. a few times. We would smoke and shoot the shit. I would always ask, "How's Debbie doing?" I just thought she feisty and had nice boobs.

One day I noticed Serge had a book. It was "None Dare Call It A Conspiracy." Elron used to sell it in the bookstores of all the "churches" in the late 70's and early 80's before the Douche Miscavenge overthrow. Elron sold "None Dare Call It A Conspiracy" because he went all Jim Jones in the late 70's—Jim Jones was the guy who put cyanide in Kool-Aid and forced his cult members at gun point to drink it. I make this harsh accusation because Elron told everyone in the late 70's a nuclear war is only a few months away, and he needed a bunch of money so he could try and stop it—I'm not kidding. (It's just another tidbit Douche and his dwindling numbers of henchmen have whitewashed in an effort to prevent the newcomers from really learning how paranoid and evil $cientology's history really is.)

So, Serge was reading highly conspiratorial books, and I began to notice his sanity slipping quite dramatically.

He would make muttering oddball comments. It was obvious to anyone who saw the young man—he was cookoo-for-coco puff's. It was really sad to watch.

But, you see, Serge wasn't much older than 18, and he was living completely on his own in an insane environment with no help from his mom or dad because they were too busy with $cientology's bullshit. So, I believe Serge was acting the way anyone who didn't have an education and whose parents were completely absent for the majority of his life would react. He simply didn't have the constitution to deal with what was going on in his head.

Did his mom or dad or anyone else take time off and help him get his head put on straight????—not to my knowledge. Afterall, they were all members of the elite Sea Organization where 'only the tiger's survive'. So, poor Serge was off-loaded out of the S.O. without pity or remorse. In the blink of an eye, Serge went from "elite S.O. member" to freeloading degraded being. Serge was safely out-of-sight-and-out-of-mind as far as the cult was concerned.

I wish I could say this was where the story ends—I wish to god I could, but I can't—this sad tale only gets worse.

A few years past by, I hadn't really given dear ol' Serge a second thought—I was off doing my thing. I just assumed he went off and got a job as a janitor somewhere or something.

So, one day I was strolling down Los Feliz Blvd, minding my own business. It was getting late. The sun reflected through trees that lined the side walk, and I was headed home with a bag full of groceries I had bought at the health food store.

Then I saw Serge coming the other way. Serge Obelinsky didn't have any arms!!! It was one of the most horrible visions I have ever seen. He had those mechanical arms with the stainless steel pincers in the place where his arms used to be. A lady was walking beside him with an arm around him—it could have been his biological mother. She looked like she was assisting him.

He didn't recognize me. I just walked by him, and went straight home. I was mortified. I really didn't know what to think or say. It was just awful. I felt so bad for the guy.

At the time I had a roommate who was ex-S.O. I said, "Dude, do you know who Serge Obelinski is?" He said, "Yeah." Then he said, "He blew his arms off making pipe bombs." WTF?? OMG?? You have got to be fucking kidding me. Holy shit!!!

And that was it. I only saw him a few more times. I started to say I saw him 'thumbing through a magazine at 7-eleven', but then I realized what I was about to say. I did see him at 7-eleven trying to look through a magazine with his pincers. Again, I didn't talk to him--I felt too sorry for the guy.

I mean....what do you say to someone, "Hey, I heard you blew your arms off making pipe bombs.....Bummer."

Poor Serge. This is one of the sadest trajedies I have ever witnessed.

I'd like to see Tommy Davis explain this one away to a reporter....."He was an adult who made a bad choice."

No, Tommy, you blind ignorant douche, he is another victim of the cult of heartlessness, $cientology.

This video depicts the recurring *Battle cry* of the *Church*of Scientology which is to *OBLITERATE* Psychiatry.
This *Battle cry* has been sung for some 40 years.
However, the "Church" does not want to accept into its ranks anyone with even a mild psychiatric background.
SEE the "Illegal pc HCOB"
It also shows a story of a 19 year old who lost his way while his parents served in the Sea Org.
His parents stayed on in the "Sea Organization" while he lived on the streets in Hollywood in a complete melt-down.

Karen, another in your series of appalling and absolutely necessary videos...thanks, as always.

I read Nancy Many's book and others that indicated strongly that a certain number of "psychotic breaks" among Scibots are the actual PRODUCT of their auditing or the identity-destroying messages of the Chorch.

Bad enough that the Chorch refuses to help people (although perhaps outsiders with psychiatric problems should be grateful) who are NOT members; it CREATES those problems in many people and then dumps them or uses the person's distress as a reason to charge more money for more worthless "interventions."

Jon Atack and others have explored the extremely disorienting aspects of auditing treatments and other Scientology procedures, and it is clear that for people in certain states these treatments can be disastrous...as disastrous or more so than the "evil work" Scientology claims is being done by Mental Health Professionals. I think it can't be stressed enough to outsiders who are considering entering: It is not ONLY the "Bridge to Bankruptcy," it may also be the "Bridge to Psychosis."

Even ex-members who have not had actual psychotic breakdowns talk about serious damage, such as the inability to feel their own emotions, that result from years of trying to protect themselves from the assaults of auditing, RPF, and so on. Practically everyone whose experiences I (a never-in) have read tell about terrible problems and frequently suicidal depressions that are the result of their years in the Chorch.

How dare DM get up there and spout this evil, self-serving and untrue drivel? He himself is an inarguable example of the extreme mental illness that may have existed in him early on, but certainly has been fed and magnified by the organization he now heads. It is really impossible to watch him in these presentations without thinking of the Nuremberg rallies or the recent leaders of North Korea or the robotic masses cheering for Mao or Stalin. The exact same dependence on public adulation is obviously at work, and it produces...as we know...powerful, unscrupulous, incredibly destructive madmen.

As a footnote, we all know that psychiatry and branches of mental health have produced horror stories. But it is NOT a monolithic organization. To keep referring to "Psychiatry" as one would refer to "The Vatican" is just another terrible lie. There are many caring and helpful mental health organizations and professionals. And they are hardly unified into one evil movement, as Scientology claims...not now, and certainly not for the last quadrillion years.

Thanks as always...Betsy

Cloistered is much too benign and inadequate a word to describe the Orwellian censorship and the iron-fisted regulation of speech, thought and behavior that Scientology imposes on it's members.

These elaborate, totalitarian, all-encompassing controls over basic human freedoms are venerated in Scientology as "good and effective control", or 8-C.

Thank you so much, Karen and Jillian, for bringing the truth to light.

Karen, this last post of yours reveals to me what I can only consider is a violation members' US Constitutional Rights to freedom of association . . . at least!

At a minimum, per wiki:

Freedom of association is the right to join or leave groups of a person's own choosing, and for the group to take collective action to pursue the interests of members.[SUP][1][/SUP] It is both an individual right and a collective right, guaranteed by all modern and democratic legal systems, including the United States Bill of Rights, article 11of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, andinternational law, including articles 20 and 23 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and Conventions87 and 98 of the International Labour Organization.

Freedom of association is primarily manifested through the right to join a trade union, free speech or debating societies, political parties, or any other club or association such as religious groups, fraternities, orsport clubs. It is closely linked with the freedom of assembly, particularly under the US Bill of Rights. More specifically the freedom of assembly is understood in a political context, although depending on the source (constitution, human rights instrument, etc.) the right to freedom of association may be understood to include the right to freedom of assembly.

I'll not belabor the point by citation of other civil rights abuses . . .
