Re: Thanks, Panda

CB, I never met Greg Wilhere. Sandy Wilhere was your sister-in-law?! What a coincidence. Yep, I hated that woman for about 48 years, also hated Maria Starkey, the Personnel Officer and wife of Norman Starkey and also hated Sue Anderson, Sandy's Senior in the Flag Bureaux.

All 3 were Corporate shills for LRH, doing whatever crimes he suggested they do in a misbegotten effort to save the Universe. Whatever they did, they always felt that they were doing the most good for the most number of dynamics so they could trash any decent person who came into their area if he didn't measure up to their creepy standards!

When you look at their behavior from a prism of 40 years later, you can see the inconsistencies and flaws in what they were doing and also in what LRH was doing. Really, it boils down to selectively implementing certain of LRH's policies while ignoring many other of LRH's policies. Meanwhile, LRH himself, almost never followed the policies which he set down for others to follow. What one ended up with, operating an organization in this manner, was exactly what one would expect if he/she analyzed the situation from a detached point of view either beforehand or afterwards.

You had a cowed crew, slaving away at 80 to 100 hours, 7 days a week with almost no pay or return flow of any kind, except for getting to study more LRH policy which, for the most part, would not be allowed to be implemented on the Apollo. The Apollo and its crew were disliked by port authorities and were always suspected of being something other than what they claimed to be which was an International Business Company, OTC, which was training business executives for profit. Port authorities often suspected them of being CIA and the Apollo had a history of being kicked out of nearly every port at which they docked. Why wouldn't they not be kicked out? The Apollo crew did not respect the inhabitants of every port they docked in nor did they respect their host country and its officials. All were thought of as "Wogs", extremely abberated with no real knowledge of any of the fundamentals of life. When you dock somewhere with such preconceived attitudes your tenure will likely be of limited duration and so it always was.

POLICIES THE ROBOTS FOLLOWED:
#1 - Don't be reasonable, be tough
#2 - Judge only by stats
#3 - Don't be afraid to hurt someone for a just cause.
#4 - Don't be "Theedie Weedie" by being kind to people, be tough and effective and ensure that you get your product.
#5 - The 4th Dynamic trumps all other Dynamics combined.

POLICIES THE ROBOTS DID NOT FOLLOW:
#1 - Making up a full written Hat Write up, Items A to J, for your post.
#2 - Demanding a full Hat Write Up be given you before assuming a post.
#3 - Using the ARC Triangle, the Tone Scale and other tools claimed to make life more pleasant.
#4 - Dismissing all Dynamics except the 4th as being valid areas in an S.O. member's life and not recognizing that if one or more dynamics are out, that will pull down the 4th Dynamic as well.

Hubbard wanted elite S.O. to be fully devoted to his cause. You see groups like this exist on Earth from time to time such as the Nazi SS or even now, with ISIS. The US Marines might be considered such a group when they are in combat. With the Nazi SS and with ISIS, however, I believe that each soldier treats his comrades with comraderie. They believe in each other, like each other and treat one another with respect. They reserve their vicious hostilities for use only against their enemies and not their own members.

With Hubbard's Sea Org, to a large degree, there was not comeraderie within the rank and file members. When new members came in, they were not embraced as part of a brotherhood. Instead, they were regarded with suspicion and were often expected of being a plant or being their only to cause screw ups. I know that there were cliques of veteran Sea Org members who were buddies with one another and covered each others backs but I believe that it was very difficult to crack those groups and be accepted by them. At least, that is what I experienced when I was there. I assumed the entire group would be a Brotherhood of the elite members and that was definitely not the case.

sounds like a great boobtube series lakey; how do we fictionalize the name of the ship? call it the welshman maybe? ahhh... taffy was a welshman, taffy was a thief...

sure, we name the elron figure "taffy"...

it were a ship of fools lakey. what i saw come from it stunk when it was on two feet. but what i saw come from it on paper was often not too shabby. when expanded dianetics, HGDS was launched in 1973 it was given to the continental orgs to give them a draw from outer orgs. i was one of the first two HGDS's at fcdc. i only audited it on one PC, a very talented jewish pianist with a very high OCA graph; everything up in the high 90's except one point was "only" 91. so i worked out a double L&N to get an ev purp, ran it R3R tested him again and that point went up to 96. one of numerous times auditing worked just like a bloody charm

still, what came from the apollo on two feet STUNK!!!

it was a judy ziff mission that ended my tenure at fcdc. she and some other wench were on tour to the outer orgs to tell us all about ron. and, of course, to spy. shortly thereafter a flag mission came to town and pulled me off post and put me on GO lines. it was a sunday. i had a pubic PC for a 12 1/2 hour intensive on Gr1 and i got him to an unkillable persistent F/N so i had to send him off. so i grabbed a couple of red-tagged staff PC's (if i were modestly adept at pen and ink i would draw the qual room viewing from the front windows looking to the door in off the hall with the Dir C&A desk to the right and the cork board behind it where red tags were posted as emblematic of the intelligence of design to the operation. PC's should come out of sessions with F/N's and VGI"s. and if not they should have another session within 24hrs. i mean like rully; it makes sense). the first was an exceptionally fetching slender young woman who gave me nothing but a soaring TA. well i freshened her red-tag anyway. and on the way to the next to the CO's Comm pulled me off to a cllar room where with this tall, buxom babe with looooong blond hair in a sailor suit told me "flag knows about you." and i was so fukkin' naive i thought flag had figured out that my personal contribution to fcdc's boom was substantial. i think i've told you the stats before. my first full week on staff the CGI hit a record $22K eclipsing a $13K GI from the fifties when lrh was in residence. next week it was $36K and over forty the next and stayed mostly in the 40 to 70 range after that. the academy filled and a second room was added. it filled and a third was added. one saturday morning i walked into the d of p's office and the board showed fifty paid 12 and 1/2 intensives scheduled. the place was ROCKIN'!!! kathie and i had a nice two room apartment with kitchenette and full bath on staff pay.

but no...

the fox tells me i'm off post, under investigation and on GO lines and i'm not to speak to any staff members...

Very interesting post, CB. It does seem that in central orgs, anytime stats went out the roof, a boom began taking place or staff pay became large enough to live on, forces were immediately moved into that org to squash the boom and punish the key people responsible for it!

This didn't happen in the mission network for many years because the missions weren't under the direct control of Hubbard. Finally, in 1981 and 1982, Hubbard decided to dismantle the booming Mission network and take it over. This was a perfect assignment for DM and he played an instrumental part in taking over all the Missions, destroying their boom, bringing them under COS control and kicking their formally successful leaders out of COS.

COS management tech is stat driven on a week to week basis only. No real thought or serious attention is ever paid to long term growth. For that reason, I believe COS management tech is not workable and has no real value when it comes to building any kind of organization, whether it be a church or a for profit business. This is true despite the fact that COS management tech has some very good principles built into its structure. The sad truth is that it is designed to obtain stats and money, right NOW!! No thought is given even to next week, or next month, let alone one year or five years down the road. The fact that this is the case, reflects heavily on the character and mindset of the men who have lead COS, Hubbard and DM.

This instant gratification type of thinking by COS's two leaders so far, LRH and DM, speaks volumes about the true aims of COS and pierces right through their slick promo and their lies as stated in their lofty sounding codes and creeds. However, this enormous outpoint goes fully unnoticed, by the execs and staff of COS.

The other big tip off as to the true nature of COS is "Heaven help the individual who exercises personal initiative in getting stats up. As sure as the Sun rises the next morning, any person who has done an exceptional job using their own personal initiative will never be honored but will be crucified and destroyed by being off loaded or perhaps re programmed in the RPF.

So, you see CB, there was no chance of your being celebrated for your fine performance at FCDC, there was no way decent pay for you and other staff was going to be allowed to continue and no way your boom was going to be allowed to continue and be celebrated!

The only gains or wins that are allowed to be tolerated are those originating from programs designed by LRH or DM! There are no exceptions to this unspoken rule!!

No one is immune to being destroyed if they created something good for COS, using their own initiative! The best example of how this works is probably exemplified by Yvonne Jentzsch, the founder of Celebrity Center. She paid extreme homage to LRH and was constantly promoting him and giving him credit for the successes which she was creating for him. Despite all her adulation of LRH and her attempts to deny her own efforts and the great results which they produced for LRH, LRH did not hesitate at all in bringing her down and DM, once he took over, has essentially erased her name from COS history. Yvonne's former husband, Heber, has also suffered the same fate as his former spouse, albeit on a smaller scale.

In summary, don't ever think that you will be recognized for your contributions by top leadership in COS's Executive strata. The only thing to worry about when doing a job so well that it becomes obvious that your personal efforts and initiative helped create a boom, is when you will be busted. Even though you may attempt to deflect all praise for your successful effort by claiming that DM or LRH was your inspiration, that will not save your ass. Exercise any personal initiative which pushes up stats and your days of being content and productive as a COS staff member are numbered!

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I went with Purple Haze yesterday to the Chen Academy annual party in the San Fernando Valley area of L.A. Helen Chen and her husband Helmut run this Academy, mostly for Taiwanese youth and as always, the event was staffed by the students of the Academy.

Lo and behold, ex ESMB poster Mark A. Baker attended the event as he always does. He hates my guts and is not on speaking terms with me because of some of my writings which he disagrees with. Nevertheless he is very friendly with Purple Haze and spent a lot of time with her. Often, he would be talking to her and I would be standing near by. I have no real dislike for him so I created a safe space for him as best as I could under the circumstances and he did the same for me. We never spoke but were very civil to each other. Purple Haze took dozens and dozens of photos of the event and in many of them, I am standing right next to MAB.

He had lost some weight a couple of years ago and appears to have gained it back but other than that, he looked very fit and he circulated well at the party, taking a lot of pictures with various people, especially the ladies, and it looked like he is in good health and is pretty happy right now.

The kids at the Chen Academy are just fantastic, sort of modern kids for this modern age. Helen Chen uses LRH tech in her program plus various elements of Chinese tech, such as Tai Chi and things of that nature. Her academy is run with love and respect for her students and they, mostly teens and early twenties exhibit model behavior. They are very kind, well mannered and have excellent skills in many areas. Helen really shows what an Academy should be run like. Too bad you don't see results like that inside a COS academy, if those still exist.

I had a nice chat with Helmut at the end of the party. He is an extremely upbeat guy who is doing very well.

Re: New Post from Mama

New post from Mama:

Jill Mitchell died in her home in Arizona, in her sleep, two nights ago, at the age of 65. She was very frail because she had undergone cancer treatment -surviving it for 20 years.

A friend of mine was a good friend of hers at CC LA in about 1974. Jill was in the SO working as Yvonne Gillham's assistant.

Jill left the SO in about 75-6. She got married and had a son and grandchild.

Two or three years ago, my friend, who is in the SO contacted her and reconnected with my friend by telephone (he was suffering from cancer too), but he was at the beginning of the treatments that Jill had already gone through. She walked him through his treatments, and was one of the few people he kept connected with.

My friend and Jill talked almost every day up until about a year ago when , as a result of some rancorous chatter on ESMB, his phone was taken from him, and his e mail curtailed.

Lakey for Mama

P.S. I remember Jill. She was the one of the Div 2 Registrars when I first arrived at CCLA in the fall of 1970. She was a pretty girl who dressed in conventional clothes, rather than the semi hip clothing worn by many of the other staff members and the public. Not too long after I arrived, she was moved from being a registrar to being an aide of Yvonne's. She was a very sweet girl, of about 22 years old at that time.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

To me, the shame is that early on, perhaps in the early to mid 50's, Hubbard's movement did have the potential to make a major contribution for the betterment of civilization. Hubbard did have some abilities which could have been put to use in a constructive way which would have benefitted society.

He had the ability to sift through an enormous amount of writings and teachings and select out the most important items and sort them as to their relative importance. To this day, I have not found anyone even close to being able to match Hubbard in this skill.

Instead of putting his talents to use only for the benefit of mankind, he choose to focus on making a ton of money and smashing his name into the history books. He was the master of Self Aggrandizement. There came a point in the 50's when his movement attracted some very brilliant people and they were focusing on various pieces of tech which, some of which were workable. Hubbard allowed these people to carry on for a while, but if and when they began to build up a following of their own or challenge his popularity or importance in any way, real or imagined, he would off load them and take all the credit for their work.

Finally, in 1965 when he issued KSW {Keeping Scientology Working} #1, he told the ultimate lie which doomed his movement to failure. He claimed that he personally had discovered or invented ALL of his own tech. He claimed that he had received over 100,000 suggestions about new or improved tech wrote that only about 20 of those had any long term value and even among those, none were fundamental or basic. Those claims are bold faced lies!

By publicly writing these horrific claims and then compounding his lies by insisting that KSW #1 be the first page of every Scientology Course and that it had to be read and checked off each time a person started a new course, he ensured the failure of his movement. It took quite a while before his organizations began to crumble but once the internet became available to the public at large, the demise of his church has been greatly accelerated. Hubbard never saw it coming.

As I said in my opening remarks, it is a shame because there was workability in some of his early tech, mostly discovered or invented by others. Had he embraced those others, credited them for their achievements and flowed money and power to them, there is a chance that his movement might have grown, become mainstream and perhaps improved the condition of man. Instead he choose to plagiarize the work of all the other contributors, claim it as his own and then concentrate on becoming rich and famous. Ultimately, his lies and dirty deeds are coming to light and destroying any reputation that he might have had. That, in turn is causing the group he founded to shrink instead of grow.

jee-yay-ziss!!!

i never could have done that if i'd been trying to

passenger gives me the fare and a usual tip and not the least indication of noticing the ritzy service he just received. so maybe he's a powerful mage than i and just accepts that as normal. indeed, maybe what i just did was the result of playing into his "OT" energies. the dynamics of cause and effect at higher levels of consciousness just are not certain except to such bloviating barstids as elron who KNOW!!! they are sole creator of all good things

but it was a sweet belletone moment; the sweetspot on the hickory caught the bullseye on the horsehide

and it went over the fence and the stands out of the park

but not to never be heard from again...

not long after that united airlines came up with one of the more pleasant advertising campaigns i've ever seen which anyone who turned on a boobtube in those years probably recalls. it featured roughly drawn cartoon people taking journeys showing them preparing then flying united and then going off into elevators to their destination. very innovative as it gave sort of "an exterior viewpoint" encompassing the wholeness of the journey more than just the airline and it's sound track was "rhapsody in blue". i know not what airline my customer had flown but terminal C at logan served united.

is there or is there not a connection between the exquistely harmonious ride i gave to the customer and the subsequent campaign?

if so, what are it's dynamics?

they could be material; my fare might have been charmed by the way i nailed it to the wall and spoken of it and the story inspired the advertising dept. i tend to believe, on the basis of long experience with so many sublime little harmonious occurences that there is a relationship best described by the words "psychedelic" (mind or soul manifesting) and "synchronicity"

or maybe directed or perhaps "pollinated" by muses or angels or elves or some such

or mere coincidence?

nahhh...

i've seen far, far, far too much "coincidence" to believe it's all coincidence

it is well for a person to develop a sense of history (especially for those who would be active in it's manufacture) and the hotel got it's name because it overlooks the spot on cambridge common where in 1775 george washington accepted command of the continental army. and the piece was an historic benchmark as well as it was the first musical work produced in america to be deemed worthy of the pantheon in europe

for those who have some sense of "OT" this may be an interesting piece of writing

for the chaotic and enraged it's just more spew from commnder BS

#1. Comparing Hubbard's choice of where to focus his abilities to the outcome of the length of a pass in a football game is, IMO, not comparing apples to apples. Any sporting event has a certain amount of randomity connected with it and it has very determined opposition connected with it. The fact that Brady did not throw a football 6' further with 19 seconds left was determined for the most part, not by Brady's decision but instead it was determined by the strength of the opposition to that pass and perhaps also some random factors which weren't under Brady's control.

In Hubbard's case, or in anyone's case, when someone is working out which direction they want their life to take, they can take their time to assess their talents and their shortcomings as well as their financial circumstances and any other relevant factors and then weigh all the variables and decide what decision to make.

Hubbard chose a path which was intended to control people. Perhaps there was also a component which was intended to help people. What I wrote earlier was that it is a shame that he did not put his main emphasis on helping people and instead he chose to aim for making a ton of money and smashing his name into the history books. The component of his decision which tended to help people turned out to take a very secondary role to his quest for power and money.

The help component of his work could be separated out from all the garbage associated with greed, money and total power over people. The tech people inside the COS often chose to use mainly that component as their main focus inside COS and in the early years, they were able to survive in COS with that focus. Over the years, it eventually became impossible to put Tech first and only pay lip service to the Organization. Eventually, the opposite was demanded inside COS and if tech people did not toe the line, they were kicked out of the organization. Unlike Hubbard, DM doesn't seem to have the concern of smashing his name into the history books but he sure wants to become a billionaire! Thus the push at this time is mostly just for money. Power is pursued mainly to keep people in line as regards their money collection duties.

#2 I agree with you that a flamboyant person such as Hubbard, who also had a very strong P.T. Barnum component to his personality, was a much better candidate to succeed in launching an international self betterment movement into the world than a mild mannered scholarly type who cared mainly about developing self help technology for people to use.

Look at the scholar Korzybski, with his subject of General Semantics and look at Freud and Jung, mental health pioneers. Their focus was on improving the lot of mankind kind with only mild yearnings for fame and money for their own lives. Each of them developed a scholarly group who was intrigued with their work but their "tech" did not make nearly as big a splash with the public as Hubbard's work did, even though Hubbard's work was not truly Scientific, while the work of the other three men was. Thus, I agree with your point.

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

yes...

and deropp in "the master game" underlines the nazarene's good advice "he among you who would be the most, let him be the least"

was hubbard's intent to control people?

or was the intent to control only to generate a global organization which could produce the same tech in malmo as in melbourne, sydney as in san francisco?

these are both primary themes of the two paths, the left and the right, the dark and the light

i think he was classically a magus who shifted back and forth between "the left hand path" and "the right hand path"

and...

as much and as deep as hubbard goes to the left he appears never to have been subsumed by it

nor does he really go that deep. he was way short of ritual human sacrifice. i mean like rully, how ya gonna be a big wheel in hell if you don't tie pretty girls to altars. cut their hearts out and munch on 'em while they're still beating?

and NOW!!!

dum dada DUM!!!

lakey's magnificent thread sails into it's Third Millenium!!!

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Nice to hear from you both, Sweetness and Shiela. The reappearance of old friends is always nice. Recently, the thread has been carried mainly by Commander Birdsong and me, with some entertaining assists from Mama, so it is really nice to hear from some of our former top posters.

Time marches on, sometimes it seems to go by too fast, I arrived on ESMB in February of 2009, 69 years old and tomorrow it will be 2015. I'm 75 now but 75 is the new 60, or so they say. That might be a bit of a stretch but I'll tell you this, when I was a kid, 60 was an old person, 65 was real old and 75....., if anybody made it to that age, they usually had a cane and a walker and really looked old and wrinkled. Of course there were a few exceptions, mostly health gurus such as Jack La Lane or people with good genes such as George Burns and Bob Hope, who both made it to 100.

With me, I'm in pretty darn good shape, except for carrying too much weight. I've got 20-20 vision without having received Lasik and perfect hearing. My long term memory is better than ever. There is a problem however, with short term memory, things such as: "Where did I leave my keys, my cell phone or my wallet?" The most inconvenient of these is remembering where I parked my car if it is parked in some large parking structure or big lot in the mall. My ex wife came up with a good fix for the parking problem which is to take a picture with your cell phone of where you parked, a picture containing a sign such as "D3" or whatever. That pretty much handles the parking memory lapse. Even better, my car has keyless entry and on the key fob which they give you there is a button to press to sound your horn if you can't locate your car in a lot.

My long term memory is extremely sharp, even better than when I was young. I don't know if receiving a lot of auditing has anything to do with that. My guess is that it had some positive effect but I don't know how much. Even before I got involved with COS, I had a very good memory of past events. My brother had the same thing, just as good as mine. Neither of our parents had that ability but at least one of them must have carried the gene for it.

As I've said recently, engaging in a spirited debate with a tough opponent has definitely improved my thinking processes. It must be very closely aligned to studying legal writing in law school. I was exposed to that as well, since my ex wife went to law wchool in the early to mid 1990's and she often sought me out as a sounding board to listen to her legal writing assignments. I was always good at writing and my sessions with her, trying to improve her legal writing skills also contributed to improving my own legal writing skills.

In closing, I'll mention again that I do 4 puzzles every day in my newspaper, the Suddoku, the Cryptogram, the local crossword puzzle and the New York Times Crossword puzzle. Doing these seems to really contribute towards keeping one's thinking processes youthful and sharp. My cousin up in Palo Alto introduced me to another type of math puzzle which is now popular and is called KeK- Ken. Ken-Ken can get very hard, sometimes it is too hard and frustrating to put in time on it but if you solve one of those puzzles, there is a lot of satisfaction. Then, last bit not least are the Boggle games I play once or twice a month with my high school buddies, 4 of which are still good friends 57 years after graduation; playing Boogle against strong opposition is definitely a good mental work out.

Well, Happy New Year to everyone!! More to come in 2015!!

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

well gibby...

you got a position and you are going to hold to it and that's just fine

personally, i just flipped my van out on rte 50 and after being medevac'd by chopper to reno getting cat-scanned and bounced on to the street i ran the incident in my mind up to the point of impact where the windscreen shattered and the roof caved in and man that IMPACT! was near as solid as when it happened. i ran it three more times and it was just as solid each time and it was getting me a tad woozy. and then i came up with a thought vaguely resembling a "cognition" and ran it through again and the image looked and sounded just the same but no more solid impact and i continued through it until the van came to a rest and i felt physically better

this all accords with dianetic theory

so you can hold your position and bolster it by citing the acts of scammers but i'm holding my own empirically gained position

this is a post i put up on 3 Dec and on 4 Dec elronius alludes to it in this post...

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

The scientific explanations has been around for quite awhile, its called endorphins, seratonin adrenalin etc and has little do with faith and more to
do with highschool pep rally or a couple beers on a saturday night :coolwink:

well ER, in the cited instance i know the result was not biochemical by reason of the result not being physical. my body felt just the same afterward as before. the change was purely on a mental/spiritual level

i ran through the incident four times and each time felt the first impact of the roof of the van just as first experienced. then with a cognition the image remained but the impact was gone

then, although there was no immediate difference in how i felt physically it seemed the physical healing speeded up. i was off the codeine a couple days later and off the ibuprofen and muscle relaxant a few days after that

moreover...

a couple years go i was plagued for many months by a sharp pain in my back, i think it lasted more than a year. one of the first things i noticed about my strain after the accident was that it was the same pain as before only much worse so i deduced the earlier pain was also gained from driving. i was kind of figuring that the big hurt would improve but it would linger a long time thereafter

but it didn't

i didn't do anything at all to treat the earlier pain so perhaps it was the muscle relaxant which enabled this to heal fully. in the earlier instance i was often driving cab so since both injuries seem to have something to do with driving perhaps that kept the pain going but back then i also had time out on the streets when i wasn't driving. i tend to believe my self application of dianetics assisted the physical recovery and i'm quite certain of the immediate psychological relief it brought

the deconstructivists are intent upon the utter eclipse of the subject (as are, apparently, the roman catholics who run Co$) but i find unique value in the work of hubbard and his (unsung) colleagues

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Thank you for the good wishes, Birdy! :happydance: I hope you have a wonderful New Year as well, with returns of "Beauty for ashes" of the things you lost in 2014. I for one am glad to bid the old year goodbye, and continue moving forward, onward and upward to better times in 2015! :happydance:

A big win for me is that very late in this year I was finally approved for Medi-Cal!!! Yippee! (After over a year of applying and jumping through all the hoops of Covered California and local social services, it looks like I will be getting my very own tiny slice of the Obamacare pie! Yummy! Tastes like pecan!) :happydance:

I think this will materially improve my health, strength and well-being in 2015, possibly a great deal. It will be such a relief to get some things seen to and handled, and to have some (even minimal) support with physical health issues!

No Birdy, I was never a part of "the Corydon crew", as you put it, although I do very much admire the man's expose book that he wrote on Ron and Scientology, one of the earlier comprehensive efforts to tell the truth about Scientology, and also his opposition to the evils of the COS Cult during the Mission Holder's revolt and beyond!

The Riverside Mission was "Booming" back in the day when I was a teenager and used to host coffee house style entertainments on the weekends that were open and free to the public. There were four rock bands and numerous folk singers and other performers, comedy acts, etc., as I recall. I had a lot of friends who liked to go and hang out there, have fun, and I went with them. Some of them did courses, I never did. It was a cool place to hang out. (Back when Scientology was "fun", I guess :confused2:). It was nothing like today's COS Orgs. You could talk and argue about ideas and discuss things, discuss different books, a much freer and saner atmosphere than today. I never got "in", I was rock solid and very active in youth leadership in my own religion, but I did go to the Mission with my friends for these entertainments, and so was exposed to Scientology at a young age.

I still know many people in town and in the area who are Exes, a couple who were formerly on staff at the Mission. Most of them don't ever speak about Scientology, have just entirely put it behind them, and have no idea that I am on this board. There are a couple who still have family members "in", and so do that difficult dance of trying to get along, not be "in", stay covert and not be disconnected.

It urks me that INT Base, where arguably the worst abuses of COS manifests on the planet is only 13 miles away from Riverside. I wish they all would move to a banana republic or the Ukraine. Actually, I wish the RTC, SO, CMO, etc, would just disband, and let everyone be independant. I do think that Ron moved first to La Quinta and then Gilman Hot Springs because of the success (financial as well as popularity) of the Riverside Mission, that he wanted to poach off of (and did).

So Birdy, maybe this helps to explain why I really am a Non-Scientologist and am personally so Anti-COS (due to all the abuses!), and yet understand it and can be friends with old time former Scientologists like you and Lakey, and others, and their second generation kids. It's part of my past experience too, in a small way...just from growing up here. I guess it's like being bilingual or bicultural. :)

Happy New Year and Prospero Ano Nuevo a todos! :happydance:

Incredible, S & L, once a regular here and sort of a co founder of the thread is absent for perhaps two years and now is returning with regular posting. Well, this post of mine is number 19,998 on the thread so I hope S & L is the one to make post #20,000. Then she would be the one who starts Page 2000 and also makes post 20,000. That would really be great! Good to have you back S & L!

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

:hattip: Thank you very much, Lakey! :)

 Whoo~Hoo!!! Post 20,000! :woohoo:

I haven't really been away, just not commenting much! We have had some great discussions here, over time, haven't we? I do check in on this thread from time to time, but usually don't break into a discussion (or an argument!).

This is my first post of 2015, and I can think of no better place to make it!

Wish everyone a very Happy, Healthy and Abundant New Year! :happydance:

Guess I am ending this page rather than starting a new one, but I think that's very appropriate for New Year's Eve, don't you?

I seriously was hoping that we would be seeing more holes in COS by now. But maybe it will be death by attrition, a slow process.

Keep in mind I still am not on the Internet at home and must use the library or go elsewhere to get online, so please don't take any gaps in my being here personally.

I'm working hard at a lot of things in life, MEST projects and improving conditions. Life is good, for the most part! Glad to hear in your year end summary Lakey, that you are well and your health is holding up so well. I'm really impressed by all the puzzles you do daily! Some of those math ones make my eyes cross! I'm sure that will help to keep your cognative abilities sharp. I think it's great that you have "Boggle Buddies". I remember that as being a fun and challenging game. So nice that you have kept some friends from high school, I have too. My friends are a great blessing to me, and I'm very grateful for them!

Hey, IT SNOWED here in Riverside last night and today! (Or now, yesterday) Can you believe it? I am just astonished! Snow level was down very low and kids were sledding on their boogie boards! What fun! It is too darn cold, though! I still have to unpack the rest of my winter clothes...we had such a hot end of summer and fall that the cold weather kind of snuck up on me this year! :p I did find my hat with ear flaps, thank God! :coolwink:

Well, no tumbleweed snowmen for us this year! It's the real thing, even if they are sort of on the short and stumpy side!

Look at this! That's Lake Elsinore!
