Battle Of Britain - 1974

Hullo JH,

I remember you well.

Brian Wingatew was sent as a "plant" to try and spy on the growing independent field in London in the early 1980's. He used to turn up at Nancy & Vernon's house in S. London for meetings. :duh:

We all knew he was a plant and used to let slip little titbits of disinformation which he would slavishly report back to his masters at St Hill.

We would refer to "our friends in B1", I know that this resulted in a comprehensive sec check on the entire B1 staff. :omg: :grouch:

It was fun while it lasted. I think the controllers finally realised that Wingate was such a complete dickhead and had obvoiusly been spotted that they pulled him out.:happydance:

Thanks, John Harry, for the timely reminders of LRH abuse.

Sometimes I feel I'm bashing my head against a brick wall with the current blame everything on DM ethos.

Ron's psychosis always attracted bullies like Sibersky. DM is just the later similar on the chain of bullies!

Yes Panda, the Battle of Britain was very nazi-like. Just a more overt dramatisation of that which has always been inherent in Hubbard's cult.

I am John Harry Watson, ED London Day from 1974 to 1977 when I successfully (but with great difficulty) routed out of my 5-year staff contract. I was still a devoted Scn but had a family to support and that was impossible as a staff member. My replacement was Brian Wingate, FEBC at vast expense. Whatever happened to him?

For my last year or so Ron "Hoppy" Hopkins was ED London Fdn., having been busted from the Flagship to CO FOLOUK then to London Fdn. We shared an office, and much more, on the fifth floor at 68 Tottenham Court Road. He was (and I hope still is) an awesome Flamenco guitar player.

Hoppy was a founding member of Flag's RPF's RPF. He has mind-boggling stories to tell. I wish he would. But he and Pamela (née-Thorne) and Jay Hurwitz have chosen to bury/not-is their past and not speak out--a shame IMO--as they could shed much light for those still entrapped.

At the time of Sibersky's "Battle of Britain" in 1974 I was Qual. Sec. and my main stat was "Success Stories". With staff being insanely driven 24/7 and dropping--literally--in their tracks there was constant demand for "assists", with their required "Success Stories", thus I dodged the hammer...

Prior to this we had been happily rolling along delivering auditing and training, having wins and fun--isolated, it seemed, from the SO and International Management. The org was a little shabby and run-down and on cope most of the time but both staff and public were winning. My sole and devoted concern was to deliver LRH tech to all who asked for it--a huge mistake as it later turned out (my personal war with Jane Kember, GWW, will be a later installment).

I had a 2D with Lesley Farrow (later Simons then Woodcraft) somewhere in there among others, we'll leave those to a later episode if anyone's interested. The 2D was pretty flexible in those days--especially in the S.O. at AOSH UK--oh boy, do I have some stories.

I had some face time with Sibersky. He was/is? one powerfully-driven man and very frightening at first. A white Russian by birth, so jealous of his lost past, he had found an outlet in the S.O. for his fanatical anti-communism and belief in "homo novis". Ayn Rand would have been so proud. Where is he now?

Please excuse this rambling, our of sequence post. Just expressing the memories relevant to this thread as they pop up.

Dave Allington and I were great friends with a shared history of over-the-top LSD use and the hippy trail to India and a thirst for everything Hubbard--especially the space opera stuff. We did the HSDC and Academy Levels together under the supervision of the incomparable Nicky Mendoza, original Cl. VIII. We both fell asleep in a session once where I was auditing him on Dianetics, over-running into the dirt, but after we woke up I recorded a 5 hour session with FN/VGI's at the examiner. Wish they'd all been that easy.

He and I discovered a big old safe in a storage space below the pavement at the front of the building (TCR) and managed to open it. Inside we found ALL the SHSBC AND Cl. VIII lecture tapes! Oh boy, what a treasure trove for two errant academy students. We spent many after-course hours wallowing in GPM, OT3 and implant material way above our case level. It was fantastic stuff--and a withhold missed by Nicky on numerous occasions. Neither of us got pneumonia or "free-wheeled" BTW. We both became auditors and, between us, produced thousands of WDAH.

I reconnected with Dave and Jan in Los Angeles circa 1981. He was actually making a modest living as an auditor at AOSH. Where is Dave now? Anyone know?

Then there was my nemesis Peter Buttery (SP emeritus IMO who became a Cl.XII and was busted by Miscavige over the McPherson death). Then there were the returning FEBC grads with their SRA's, "too gruesomes", etc. Then my battle with Jane Kember. And it all destructed.

PLEASE NOTE this was under LRH's watch and micro-supervision--Miscavige came later--sorry, Marty. LRH and his aides wrote and enforced the mission orders for Sibersky's "Battle of Britain" which very nearly destroyed Scn in the UK.

More ramblings to come.

My humble regards to all of you on ESMB, keep up the good work. The walls are tumbling down,

JHW

With my usual charmed life I was being a panty waist dilletante during the battle of Britain, and missed all the fun.

Years ago I heard that Alex was in the FZ or independant field, and in New York, so I just googled him. He is the only person in the US with that name
and the first hit gives an address and phone no.

By the way John, I have a phone number for Hoppy if you want it. He
wasn't interesting in talking to me, we only ever met once, but I connected him up with an old friend and he was happy to chat with him.

After he nazi'd his way around the UK, Sibersky was a Flag auditor and UK PC's scheduled for sessions at Flag with him were asked if they wanted another auditor!

Flunk for a Q&A with the PC! Flag - the Mecca of reasonableness! :roflmao:

I'm afraid Hoppy also has dirty hands, in that he carried out RTC's work in the UK in 1982.

Unfortunately so many scientologists went into the LRH bully valence to some extent.

I hope Sibersky and Hopkins are out of that behaviour pattern now.

Ah yes, Peter Buttery, the OT with a permanant smirk on his face!

Sadly, as well as him being the C/S for Lisa when she had her psychotic break, Peter's sister Margaret Ainsworth was the C/S for Greg Bashaw when he had his pyschotic break which led to his suicide (Nancy Many "My Billion Year Contract" p.262)

I hope Peter and Margaret have left now and have recovered their humane sensibilities.

Sibersky gave me my Power & Power Plus grades when we were on the ship in 68, and he was great. I just asked him if he would do it, and he said yes - and he went ahead and did it. He was (then) just a great guy.

Amazing how people's valances can be shifted so radically when given a "Mission".

Regards, Allen

Wow....that's date co-incident with the death of Prog Rock and rise of Punk Rock in the UK music scene. Talk about ANOTHER 4th dynamic engram!

Great stories. I wonder what happened to that safe?

Another ramble

Thank you all for your responses and helpful information. The only reason I'm enquiring about Brian Wingate is we (London Day approx. 60 staff) spent trillions of dollars and went pay-less to send this guy to Flag, as my replacement, to do OEC/FEBC. Rumour is he only survived a couple of months as ED London Day before being removed by an S.O. mission. I was long gone by then (though still a loyal Scn). This would have been 1977-1978. Anyone have any info about his tenure at HSOL?

On to more interesting stuff:

Another ramble—involving Peter Buttery, Pedro Doria, Pam Thorne/Hurwitz, Diana Hopkins/Coventry c.1971-1972.

My aunt Mabel, who was about 75 years-old at the time and more like a mother to me, gave me my inheritance early so that I could pay for my Drug Rundown and follow-up auditing. I was a heroin addict—I believed Scn could help—so I did it and it worked splendidly (more about that in another episode).

She was impressed and I made her read DMSMH then SOS then got her into the org (London Day). Buttery was the C/S. I was still a student in the Academy. Well she did fine on Life Repair, or so she told me. Then she went on to ARC S/W and something went wrong—I don't know what, maybe hit more charge than the level could handle—she was a very deep, spiritual and rebellious person.

Buttery decided she was NCG (????) and C/S'd her for Power (Level V) at SH. It cures SP's don't you know;-) AND she had money. So, at great expense, she went off to East Grinstead to do Power under Cl. VIII C/S Pedro Doria.

(It was during Mabel's absence at SH that I set up my "after-hours academy" at her flat, close to the org, where Dave Allington, John Simons and others whose names I forget, racked up thousands of Student Points in extra-curricular, confidential, non-checksheet studies.)

I don't know who her auditor was—Murray Chopping comes to mind but I could be completely wrong about that. After some set-ups, and apparently ethics actions (well, OK, she was a card-carrying communist), which took several weeks (she told me she was getting worried about time and money—PTP?) she started on Power.

In her first session she had a near-fatal heart attack.

Medics were summoned (ah, the good old days) and resuscitation (CPR/defibrillilation) was successful (this is on record with the West Sussex (?) Emergency Services). After a hospital visit, Mabel was returned to her boarding house in EG and rested for a few days before returning to London.

When she came home, looking haggard and ten years older, she told me: "I'm thrilled at what they've done for you (getting me off heroin) and I'm happy for you, but I'm finished with them (Scn). I don't want anything more to do with them. You go ahead if you want to and it makes you happy. I won't stand in your way or give you any problems, I just never want to hear about Scn again."

I complied. Got rid of the LRH books, moved out the e-meters. Closed the "after-hours academy". Continued living at her flat all through the Academy Levels and until I married Anji without any "PTS" problems—good roads-good weather—no problems. We just didn't talk about Scn.—it was off the table.

Aunt Mabel, severely damaged, went into a steady decline, then dementia, then died.

The inheritance she gave me paid for my "Bridge" through OT III and Cl. IV. The balance of the inheritance—40,000 pounds—I "donated" to the "church" under a brilliant, brutal and sexual tag-team regging cycle by Pamela Thorne/Hurwitz and S.O. Missionaire Diana Coventry/Hopkins.

At least I got to sleep with Diana but I can't say it was worth 40,000 quid. We actually had a quite protracted and intense affair. Once again, apologies to her then husband, Ron "Hoppy" Hopkins.

Sorry, Hoppy, I was carried away.

JHW

P.S. I know Hoppy got caught up in the Nazi thing, as did all the CLO and even our local org execs (notably Pam and Jay Hurwitz and Lesley Farrow/Woodcraft). Yes they have sins to atone for.

But it was Hoppy, in 1986 in Los Angeles, after a wonderful Flamenco concert, who finally cut the cord for me. I had been OUT for three years but was still worrying about my incomplete OT V (Audited NOTS). Gotta complete the level… unflat, fucking me up, yadda yadda.

He asked: "John Harry, has it ever occurred to you that you already know everything there is to know?"

You can ponder that question for yourself. It did it for me.

More to come,

JHW

I'm very curious about the Battle of Britain - what exactly happened there? In my family it was alluded to but never spoken of. I'm pretty sure some of my relations were involved, perhaps leading to their declares. I've read through this thread but any extra info would be greatly appreciated.

I was on staff in LA and owned a ouji board. It was a board with a warped sense of humor. For instance I remember one gal asking if she would be married. The answer was "Yes", then she asked "When?" the answer was "Soon", then she asked "How soon?" and the answer again was "Soon", "Really really soon?" she inquired. Again the answer was "Soon". "But when?" she cried. The answer was "Tomorrow".
One of the gals on staff was convinced she was a great Russian ballerina in a past life. So she asked my board if she ever lived in Russia. Answer "Yes". question, "Was i someone famous?" Answer "Yes". Question "What was my name?" Answer "Rasputin"
Girl was very upset, and the next day I was callled into ethics and told to destroy my ouji board and told that it had invalidated the girls auditing. Well, I did throw away the board but could never understand how a cardboard object with a warped sense of humor could invalidate auditing.
Love & Light, auntpat

That's funny

Pandora the Battle of Britain was fun fun fun!
The UK had been in a state of Emergency for a long time. We were shown the stats and they were apparently falling over many years. Sibersky ran the UK like Captain Blackbeard.

In London Org there were nightly musters, usually about 3am. If you were upstat you had a Union Jack pinned to you and if down stat you had a scull and crossbones. Upstat were allowed to go home and sleep and the rest carried on working. It wasn't uncommon for people to walk out of the muster and get declared. Members of the public also walked out and were rewarded with goldenrod. The mimeo officer had great stats with all the declares.

The UK orgs had shrank and the public disaffected.

Many evalutions were done and non really resolved anything. The point is that it was done just as Ron intended and that he was the who and the why and no one else. Sibersky, how we hated him, was just obeying the loving founder's every word.

Paul, he must have been a truly confused man to have caused such tidal waves.

Honestly, I though he must have been around for months.

Did he only spread his love to Saint Hill and London or did he attack the other Orgs too?

When I walked into the Circus tent I really was hallucinating from lack of sleep and food, I saw him arriving in a Nazi open staff car. He seemed to be giving his Nuremberg address from a boxing ring.

One moment of my life I would like to relive is when he first came to London he said that we were free to go if we wanted to. I should have walked out at that moment. Never mind I walked out in the end.
