I don't think this is the first time NAO has hosted an event - but this one's obviously a PR effort to position CO as being on the right side of civil rights. (Note: It originated as a press release drop to PRWeb.)

National Action Network Black History Month event held at the Fraser Mansion in Washington, D.C.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 25, 2013
The National Action Network held a tribute to Rosa Parks February 28, 2013, at the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office in Washington, D.C. The National Affairs Office (NAO) of CO$ is located in D.C.

Here's info about another event held on February 16, 2013. (Again, dropped as a press release to PRWeb, this one picked-up by the Houston Chronicle.)

A corps of leaders committed to empowering the community and providing opportunity to at-risk youth learned of a program that can keep kids off drugs.
Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) March 18, 2013
Community leaders, officials and mentors at the fourth annual Community Day Breakfast of the Maryland-based nonprofit Men Aiming Higher came away from the February 16 event with tools to fight teen drug abuse.
Men Aiming Higher is a broad-based collaborative initiative to improve the lives of young people through tutoring, leadership training, mentoring programs and community service projects.
Staff of the Church of Scientology National Affairs Office introduced those attending to the Truth About Drugs prevention program and the educational resources that make it so effective.
One of the world’s largest nongovernmental drug education and prevention initiatives, the Truth About Drugs is a secular program supported by the Church of Scientology, empowering millions of youth with factual information to help them live drug-free lives.

Re: CO$ National Affairs Office (NAO) Public Relations Efforts

The NAO of CO$ hosted another event recently. The target? Illiteracy. The solution? "Study tech".

The seminar at the Church’s National Affairs Office was entitled “The Key to Literacy—Learning How to Learn.” John Stanard, Social Betterment Secretary of the National Affairs Office, presented a simple program that can reverse these numbers, one person at a time. Stanard presented an overview of a technology of study that can overcome the barriers children and adults encounter when attempting to learn to read and write, and will also give them the ability learn any subject and apply what they have learned. This technology, known as (STUDY TECH LINK REDACTED) or “Study Tech,” was researched and developed by American author, humanitarian and Scientology Founder L. Ron Hubbard.

Special Zone Plan

An HCO Bulletin in June promulgated the 'Special Zone Plan - The Scientologists Role in Life', in which Hubbard explained how Scientologists could exert influence in politics. 'Don't bother to get elected,' he wrote. 'Get a job on the secretarial staff or the bodyguard.' In this way positioned close to the seat of power, he argued, Scientology would be advantageously situated to transform an organization. 'If we were revolutionaries,' he added, 'this HCO Bulletin would be a very dangerous document.'

In August, the 'Special Zone Plan' was absorbed into a new 'Department of Government Affairs' made necessary, Hubbard gravely explained, because of the amount of time senior Scientology executives were having to devote to governmental affairs, as governments around the world disintegrated under the threat of atomic war and Communism. 'The goal of the Department', he wrote 'is to bring government and hostile philosophies or societies into a state of complete compliance with the goals of Scientology. This is done by high-level ability to control and in its absence by a low-level ability to overwhelm. Introvert such agencies. Control such agencies.'

L Ron Hubbard wrote, “Human rights must be made a fact, not an idealistic dream.” The Code of a Scientologist calls on all members of the religion to dedicate themselves “to support true humanitarian endeavors in the fields of human rights.”

My truth differs from L Ron Hubbard's, thus, i
n the eyes of the book thumping scientologist, I have no rights.

it is interesting how a paranoid schizophrenic can express himself as a champion of humanitarian endeavours and welcomes his followers to fair game those who do really see him for what he is.

Like just about everything else, LRH didn't invent the Special Zone Plan. The Catholics and the Masons have been doing it, like, forever. (That's why Catholics aren't allowed to join the Masons.)

And why shouldn't the church infiltrate the US government? The IRS and their puppet Davey was the government's way of infiltrating the church.

Re: Scientology's National Affairs Office + The Rebecca Project = Peculiar Alliance

Others here are more 'in the know' when it comes to assessing whether or not a group is connected to Co$/scientology, so I'll put the available information here and allow for more informed opinions to surface.

MarketWatch, an online feature available from the Wall Street Journal, picked up this story from PRWeb, the site where so many pro-scio stories are 'leaked'. Here's the MarketWatch link: http://www.marketwatch.com/story/de...lay-and-other-human-rights-leaders-2013-09-17

"Depo Provera Side Effects examined at Congressional Briefing With Rebecca Project for Human Rights, Congressman William Lacy Clay and Other Human Rights Leaders"

WASHINGTON, Sept. 17, 2013 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- U.S. Congressman William Lacy Clay, Jr. (MO), Member of the U.S. Congress and Congressional Black Caucus will hold a Congressional briefing examining Pfizer and health providers targeting women of color to be primary consumers of the carcinogenic contraceptive drug Depo Provera, by concealing of FDA Black Box Warnings and minimizing life-threatening and debilitating side effects. This Depo Provera briefing, in collaboration with the Rebecca Project for Human Rights, is to educate and inform women about lethal side effects of the Depo Provera shot. It will be held at the US Capitol Hill Campus on September 20, 2013 at 3:30PM during the CBC conference week at the Capitol Visitors Center Auditorium.

Imani Walker, Executive Director of the Rebecca Project stated, "our nonpartisan anti-Depo Provera advocacy is about protecting Black women's reproductive health and protecting low-income communities, because Black women experience significant health disparities." According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the leading causes of death for Black women are: heart disease, cancer, HIV/AIDS stroke, and diabetes. Furthermore, medical research indicates the use of Depo Provera can cause or exacerbate all those diseases. Therefore, it is imperative that women are counseled and provided informed consent about harm.

In June 2013, Rebecca Project for Human Rights published a policy report: Depo-Provera: Deadly Reproductive Violence. Kwame Fosu, Policy Director for the Rebecca Project for Human Rights explains, "this is a definitive report that details incidents of misconduct by Pfizer major health providers." In addition, the Rebecca Project analysis also examines reported concerns of Depo Provera research in Ghana.

Pastor Lennox Abrigo, who is President, National Action Network DC Chapter, and President of the Civil & Human Rights Depo Provera Coalition said, "this Depo Provera briefing is going to be a respectful, thoughtful discussion about the dignity and health of Black women, and women of color, in the United States and globally. Our community's harm and voices have to be heard by our elected leaders, Pfizer, Planned Parenthood and all Public Health institutions that continue to promote this dangerous drug without Black Box warnings."

Other health and women's rights leaders participating at the Congressional briefing are: Dr. Charlotte Charity Abaka, former Chairperson of Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW); Grace Akallo, Executive Director, United Africans for Women and Children Rights; Rev. Brook Parker Bello, Executive Director, Above the Noise; Dr. Joel Brind, Professor of Biology and Endocrinology, CUNY; Ms. Lisa Davis, Chairperson of Black is Back Coalition Healthcare Working Group; Reverend Marcia Dyson, The Dyson Report; Kwame Fosu, Policy Director, Rebecca Project for Human Rights; Dr. Steve Minkin, Public Health HIV AIDS Expert; Elize Lotter, a South Africa Human Rights Advocate permanently harmed by Depo Provera; Jesse Morrow, Social Reform Director, Church of Scientology, National Affairs Office; Professor Charles Ogletree, Harvard Law Professor; Reverend Marvin Owens, Jr., Senior Pastor of Michigan Park; Elaine Riddick, Women's Rights Activist, forcibly sterilized in 1968 at age 13 and fought back to help secure a $10 million settlement for victims; Minister Dr. Randy Short, Social Justice Minister and National Spokesperson and President of the Clergy Coalition; and Imani Walker, Executive Director, Rebecca Project for Human Rights.

For more information about Depo Provera, please contact Kwame Fosu or Imani Walker at 202-406-0911 or 202-265-3906, or go to the Rebecca Project website at http://www.rebeccaproject.org/.

I'd never heard of the Rebecca Project for Human Rights ("RPHR") but a simple Google search showed the link to their website (nothing fancy, ymmv) and, to my surprise, RPHR's site link was found on an Oprah Winfrey site here: http://www.oprah.com/spirit/Stop-Human-Trafficking-The-Rebecca-Project
Another link appeared on Google which was...peculiar. It's a link to the RPHR Facebook page, and when you scroll down on that page to July 19, 2012, Jada Pinkett Smith's photo is featured, along with a story about her working with RPHR. Here's the link: https://www.facebook.com/rebeccaproject

Here are two official PR releases from the cult mentioning events they put on which the Rebecca Project attended. The connection is not clear, but at least they don't hate them. :)

Thanks for the additional info, Paul. :)

After thinking about this, and doing a bit more research, it appears (to me) that this PRHR group really might be connected with Co$/scientology -- and I'm wondering about the depth of the connection(s).

Co$/scientology is forming public alliances with existing national organizations in/around Washington, D.C. -- organizations with different ideologies/hot button issues -- religious freedom, free speech, human trafficking, big pharma, abortion, etc.

Other Co$/scientology known entities (CCHR, the Artists for Human Rights group Anne Archer is associated with, TWTH, etc.) seem to be doing their own, individual 'thing', so to speak.

When a group like RPHR appears to sneak under the radar just enough to draw-in the legitimate non-scio groups and, for its efforts, manages to prompt a congressional hearing, it's cause for concern...and further scrutiny.

Politics does make strange bedfellows, yes. But the stated agenda of RPHR seems remarkably similar to the stated aims of Co$/scientology.

Who funds RPHR? :confused2:
Who benefits - politically - from RPHR's lobbying efforts? :confused2:
