THE LAST DAYS IN THE BUNKER
I liken what is happening to the fall of the Third Reich, a once mighty country with the biggest Army in the world, mismanaged beyond belief and now being reduced to rubble. Of its allies, Italy has changed sides and Japan, though still fighting bravely is being overwhelmed. The mad man, Hitler, who recently controlled a giant empire 3 thousand miles wide is now limited to the confines of a single underground bunker being pounded by artillery and bombs. The picture of the wave which Helluva posted is very representative of this scenario.
Inside the bunker the mad man is still spewing his nonsense and drivel with spittle coming from his mouth and food stains on his once spiffy uniform. He is still clinging to his shopworn and passe tech that it is the Jews who are responsible for everything and that the master race will prevail . He is still promising final victory with new secrete weapons and a claim and hope that the huge alliance against him will break into war amongst themselves and that he will still triumph.
Meanwhile, the inner circle of henchmen and "yes men" react in different ways, all predictable. Himmler and Goebbles choose suicide, the once proud second in Command, Goering, tries to cut a deal with the allies, using Sweden as an intermediary. Albert Spier is one of the few who can see the truth and shortly before the end begins disobeying his Master's orders and starts a campaign to undermine him and save as many lives and as much infrastructure as possible. At the very end he flies into the bunker and confesses to his Master what he has done and the Master walks away from him, now in apathy and finally announces that all is lost, "Alles ist Kaput". His swan song is to quickly marry his mistress and commit suicide. In his last will, he admits no wrongs, learned nothing from all that he has caused to be done in his name and as his ship sinks, he is still blaming the Jews.
Just substitue GAT, The Basics and the Ideal Orgs for the secrete weapons, change a few names around by replacing Speer with Rinder, Goering with Rathbun, etc. and what could happen is predictable. Current management will claim they are wining right up to the last day, false stats and phoney cartoon like graphs will take the place of Goebbles propanda films and magazines. Many of the current leadership will remain loyal right to the very end but as the end nears, more and more will be breaking away and trying to cut deals with the "allies" which would would the governments and the press corps of the world. Many of the rank and file will remain loyal right to the end but others will scramble and try and get out before the final curtain falls. The top guy will not admit any wrongs nor learn anything from his decades at the helm. He will go down claiming that there were traitors in his ranks who did not follow his orders and they and the phychs are totally responsible for ruining his grandiose plans. He may disappear from the scene mysteriously and people will speculate for years whether he is alive or not. The ship of Scn will have its final Gotterdammerung, Twilight of the Gods, and go down in flames.
Hopefully, from its ashes, a new entity will arise, smaller than before but much better and will become a beacon of freedom and religious tolerance as today's Germany has become. In this new entity, the names of the former leadership will become an anethema and will be remembered only as a lesson of how crazy an organization can become if people become hypnotized and follow the wrong leaders.
