ELLI FORDYCE
An accomplished and charismatic performer with a voice to take your breath away, Elli Fordyce has a track record on and off with the American Jazz Club scene spanning sixty years. Originally from Manhattan, and with a brief flirtation with acting, she went on to release two critically-acclaimed CD albums in her early seventies, the second of which received an impressive 8 pre-Grammy nominations which caused a flurry of attention in the Jazz community and the media.
This week on JAZZBITES Elli speaks about her music, passions, personal ambitions, and her insight from the inside after spending 17 years with Scientology in the wake of the release of the controversial documentary by Alex Gibney, GOING CLEAR.
Despite her claim of semi-retirement, she continues to entertain friends and locals with her remarkable voice in typical showbiz fashion at her home in a retirement community in the country some two hours north of New York City, where she coaches performers in person <LIVE> on-line.
"Elli Fordyce's <Something Still Cool> evokes an era when, if you shook a tree, several female Jazz singers would fall out." Michael P. Gladstone, [All About Jazz]
"Brings a lifetime of wisdom to lyrics, and Jazz-honed skills make standards swing or glow at low flame." Rob Lester, [Cabaret Scenes]
