ESMB Poster "David Mayo"

I still have a big MU on David. That issue that was put out about the story of a squirrel - that original one which made me realise that the Young Turks were now fully in command - it said that David Mayo was a "bird dog". What is a bird dog? A dog that catched birds? How is that an insult and how does the metaphor work? Why is it bad to be a bird dog? And how was David meant to be one?

Would Americans please clarify this for e.

Recording history is such an important job. Good on you for your efforts.

I took several history classes when I went back to college. One of my favorites was Totalitarian Art (mainly focused on the art, social and political history of Europe during the 20th century: Italy, Germany, Soviet Union.) I wrote a paper on Charlie Chaplin, who had made the film "The Great Dictator" during the late 1930's. If you haven't seen it, it really is worth seeing. (It is a very clever film mocking Hitler and Mussolini.)

Charlie Chaplin was appalled about what was happening in the hands of the fascist dictators and equally appalled about how it was being allowed to happen. When he starting making the film the US and England were opposed to it and he couldn't get funding in Hollywood because of the close financial ties to Nazi Germany. So he funded, produced, created, and acted in the film himself. Around the time The Great Dictator was completed, England had joined World War II and the film was a great hit in England and the US where it now had tremendous support.

I greatly admire Charlie Chaplin for making such a strong stand, even though it was unpopular at the time. (He was also a true genius.) Pity he was given such a tough time during the McCarthy era and had to flee the US.
Despite all, he hummed his own tune, Smile, much later when he was allowed to come back to the US to receive an Oscar.

I cannot say how utterly thankful I am for the wonderful folks at EFF, as well as so many others, who make the internet available to even the oppressed. It is changing, and will continue to greatly change the world. Exciting times.

I'm glad a few of my old posts were helpful.

Oh yeah. We have many times posted a YouTube clip of Charlie Chaplin's 'The Great Dictator' on this board. It was so well done and the clip was in HQ. It is good to save a great archival snippet to the hard drive cause they degenerate in quality for some reason if you go back into YouTube a year or so later to pick it up.

I got to see Charlie Chaplan receive his award in Hollywood a couple of years back. I thought it was a Lifetime Achievement Award (Oscar actually) special or something. I cried. I think everyone in the theatre did. I was saddened watching the clips of he and his family going over on the ocean liner to their new home in England. It seemed he would never come back. He didn't want to.

Charlie was a handsome man. You wouldn't know it but The Little Tramp had a lot of charisma with the ladies in Tinsletown. Hid daughter Geraldine Chaplin never made that many films in the USA. I think most remember her as Yuri's wife in Dr. Zhivago. She had a rare grace about her.

Thanks Jachss :coolwink:

This 1951 tourism video of New Zealand was still in remarkably good shape from the archives.

It does look like the crater lake in the photo.

I moved across state lines and now I cannot find my flash drive. Hrrrrrmmmph :grouch:

I'm sorry everybody
. :bigcry:

Nothing is ever lost Hatty...you just currently don't know it's whereabouts.

My impression is it's with some jewelry and stuff, inside of something else with a cover, for safe keeping. You will find it. :)

I have gotten roped into coloring eggs. I thought I wanted to go all fancy .....then the eggs came out of the base coloring blotchy and striped. What was on those eggs. Stripes?? They were right out of the carton. I have no mommy sense. Shoulda scrubbed that batch with a gentle brush.

And/or dip them in vinegar first before dying for a more even color tone (let them dry first before dyeing)...

...oh well, can you overdye them? Tie dye is in!

It was something like this ...maybe will pop up

I accessed my bedroom up those winding stairs. It was certainly an escape route - to a (very) few hours of shut-eye oblivion and privacy. And it was damn freezing, but when heating was banned, we cheated by plugging in a low voltage tube heater, the kind you used to use in a wardrobe to stop mildew. Alistair Guy, RIP, came to do inspections one day and commented on how warm it was up there. I mumbled something about heat rising.:eyeroll:

Lately I've thought that, had there been an earthquake, I'd have been killed in an instant by the massive wooden beams up there, and the lathe and plaster that bounced when you pushed your hand against it.:omg:

In some of those venerable old historic buildings, it's all the mildew holding hands that is keeping them upstanding! :omg:

That's an idea. I never thought of putting them in vinegar before putting them in the vinegar and water mix. I am going to just paint some. We have many artists and their utensils here. I will decorate over the muffed ones.

Vinegar cuts through stuff like oil from your hands, etc., that makes for a blotchy and uneven color "take". Also acts as a bit of a mordant, I think, for the dye. Also you can try sprinkling fine rock salt (like kosher salt) on them when freshly dyed and wet with a dark or strong color for a interesting effect, like on watercolours.

Painting them sounds great, I'm sure they will come out nice for Easter! Have fun with it! :happydance:

Sorry, I couldn't grok this post.

D

Dear David,
Cali is making a joke because you edited out the OT in powers, referring to your intention to honor your non-discussion of Scientology agreement. :D

The "knot in your shoelaces" was about not referring to NOTS...:coolwink: Heh!

I love people who correctly use grok! :happydance: Big hugs!!!! :D

ML,
Sweetness

Welcome Julie! SO glad that you joined the party here! :happydance: Enjoy yourself! :) Getting true history from many different perspectives is very important to our collectively understanding what happened with COS and Scientology. Keep talking, blogging, interviewing, writing for future publication and posting, everybody!

Chuck B...you are my hero!

Blessed Passover and Happy Easter to all. :happydance:

Love all the exes. Been lots of water under the bridge since 1996, (since I last posted on a forum like this). I had no idea that my posts would still be around. I might have spell checked them, reread them, or at least deleted a few commas had I known.

Back in 1996 David and I were delivering Causality Programs that we had developed. We had left IRM in 1988 and not long thereafter started Causality. (David did some windsurf board repairs to keep bread on the table until we got Causality going.) After we settled the C of S cases in 1996 we continued Causality for a few years then got into videography and web designs. We both went back to college for a few years and so forth. (That was really great.)

I was amazed at Marty's and Mike's mythology over on Marty's blog. No, we didn't go windsurfing after we settled. Unfortunately I didn't go at all in 1995 until mid 1997. The informants couldn't even get the windsurfing right! I'm sure it was a stressful job and stress is supposed to be bad for memory. They also probably wouldn't dare report anything other than what the spymasters wanted to hear. And the spymasters wouldn't dare think any thought other than what they were supposed to think. Most of the rest of Marty's blog about the Mayos is equally nonfactual. * E.G., the AAC closed in 1984? Come on Marty. There must be dozens of people on this message board alone that came to the AAC in 1985 and 1986 and got journals during the 1990s. Time to evolve out of old habits and stop fighting old battles that are completely irrelevant in today's world.

I, for one, am glad to leave all that stuff behind me!

Amen to that! :happydance:

* (Where is Alanzo when you need him???)

Please do help to set the record straight Julie, that is one of the beauties of ESMB. Take your time and refute all the "nonfacts" that have been posted about you guys and your lives :whistling:. How very tactful you are!!! :eyeroll: Much moreso than I would be, under similar circumstances. Good for you!

(OSA, can you say "defamation lawsuit?")
