How Do Objectives Work?

 goodness, Lanzo. I choose not to discuss the last time I had a good rogering. He's cute, but a little loud don't ya think?

It does appear that he's speaking quite loudly, like he's from the Outback or something and is not quite used to the more refined audiences in the city.

I must say, I feel thoroughly rogered, though.

I got rogered so seriously last weekend that I threw up from exertion three hours into it. And I had six more coming. It was wonderful. However, I learned, the next day, that I'm not, in fact, 17 anymore. And for days afterwards, my stomach muscles cramp so hard they spasm, and it's dangerous for me to drive.

Ahh, the mating impulse: sometimes it's stronger than our bodies limitations.

The erotic part was that response was still possible after such an... episode. Funny, five years into some relationships, it's hard to make it happen twice in a week. Three days into some relationships, it's hard not to make it happen ten times in a morning.

Do some nama japa. Take some beads in your hand and repeat the name of God associating it with everything you think and do.

Yes, please pardon my apparent shouting . . . first time using this application, and I selected a type size my poor tired 70+ year old eyes could easily read on the computer screen. Let's see how this looks when it's up:coolwink:

Hmmm, having now used the preview, bloody small type what?

And thank you all you charmers who showed the good graces to acknowledge my little effort at rendering some help:happydance:

What a strange concept. Take the name of some non-existent blighter into mind with everything I think and do while holding on to some beads? What are you, Catholic? Is this a rosary?

My eyes prefer it when you shout, Roger.
In any event, thank you for your insightful and enlightening post on the Objectives.
My own answer to the Original Poster's question, "How do Objectives work?" is already answered more fully on the early pages of this thread.
Cheers, Panda

The Spirit is strong, but the flesh is weak...

Although I wasn't aware that copulation was one of the processes used in Objectives. In fact, would not it be a violation of the Auditor's Code?

As for not being 17 any more--I passed my sexual prime some 24 million years ago, and even then it was a strange experience being locked up in the mountain for so long, you can imagine what sex was like--naked, in the dark, and alone ...

Yes, this is a strange concept for Westerners, but an ancient concept in Hinduism. See details here:

.

Hmm... I don't see anything but association of everything with the word chanted to self, in this case. This process doesn't indicate to me, and not so much because I am a Westerner, as because I don't see any logic in it.

The process I'm currently engaged in is seizing opportunities offered to me and making the most of them, while preparing for what I really want to be doing when I retire from the world of the dollar.

By the way, Roger, I was playing around with you.

It's my way of welcoming you to ESMB.

You wouldn't feel at home if everyone was all polite all the time, would you?

Panda, Thanks. I like to help

Truth is, the folk on this board have a lot of wonderful technology that is truly workable if they use it positively . . . of course, one needs to be a little selective on the issue of choosing from the options:whistling:

I've been catching up on the old posts. There's some very good stuff there, posted by very good and caring people. I'm glad I found you all:happydance:

And thanks to Vin, Good Twin, and Fluffy for your good vibe too!

Howzat for a "Rogering"?:wink2:

I see the Objectives very differently than Hubbard described, and than has been explained here.

If you'll look through the early 1950's "tech" on the Objective processes, when Hubbard first released them, he talked a lot about CONTROL.

This was when he came up with the prestidigitations on "good and bad control", and also set the social standard for Scientologists of "if you are not willing to be controlled, then you are low-toned".

Leon Festinger is a Social Psychologist who began formulating and publishing work on a theory called "Cognitive Dissonance Theory" in 1950. It is a theory which says that the personality is made up of THOUGHTS, EMOTIONS, and BEHAVIOR.

He posited that when these parts of a personality are in conflict, it causes dissonance in the person's "universe", and the person will adjust their thoughts, emotions or behavior to get rid of the dissonance.

Remember reading the issues on the Objectives and seeing the words, usually capitalized, "THOUGHT, EMOTION and EFFORT" all over these issues?

Well, I believe that Hubbard was reading Festinger, and this is where he came up with his "Objective Processes".

Hubbard's first job was to convert the prospect - to get him to give up his old goals, attitudes and behaviors, and adopt new Scientology-based ones.

Festinger and others found that if you could CONTROL one part of a person's personality - say their BEHAVIOR, and keep controlling it, then they would shift their THOUGHT and EMOTIONS to be more in line with their new BEHAVIOR to reduce the dissonance in their "universe".

In this way, you could create a personality shift in the person. Just by controlling them.

Marines and other armed forces use this technology in Basic Training to create trained killers who will follow orders to the death, from normal people.

Hubbard used this technology of CONTROL in the Objectives. You also see it on the Purification Rundown, and other lower-level Bridge steps.

Hubbard needed to produce a personality shift, and the Objective processes, through the theory of Cognitive Dissonance, is what he developed to do it.

It has nothing to do with "being in PT" or anything else like that. This was simply the positive suggestion the PC was given, and what he placed their attention on, while he applied the real process of producing a personality shift in them that would be more Scientology-based.

For more information on Leon Festinger and Cognitive Dissonance - do a web search.

You'll be glad you did.

They "work" by getting you to do stupid things without questioning why you are doing them until it reaches the point where you obey any instruction given to you coming out of Scientology. If you are reduced to the level of holding a wall to "keep it from going away" then you will write out and sign a cheque for an Ideal org.

Good point but only if it is being done in the ambit of a corrupt group, such as our former "church." Otherwise, what Dull explains and suggests seems innocuous to me.
