Indies Vs Freezoners - Whats the difference?

I'm a bit confused about this.

Can anyone tell me what the difference is between Indies & FZers now?

For a while I thought it could be loosely classified as "Terril and the Bill Robertson devotees" and "Marty's lot". But I see the lines are blurring.

For instance, Dexter who hates Marty, is doing radio interviews with Jim Logan & getting Dan Koon to C/S for him. Dan & Jim are of course big Marty supporters so this has gotten very confusing to me.

Can anyone clarify?

Maybe it's confusing because there are no hard and fast rules. I think that was the point of breaking free of CoS. The practitioners outside the church are not bound by policy or standard tech.

Emma, you know I love my squirrels, but I'm going to say something a bit contradictory here. Any of the guys outside the church can just set their own guidelines and standards and call themselves whatever they want. They can also change their minds and standards at will. This is a wonderful system for the practitioner, but not so much for the client.

Why can't we just call them all squirrels?:confused2:

As I see it - the FreeZone, generally speaking, picks and chooses those parts of the tech its practitioners believe are most useful to the individual in specific given circumstances. Martyland, ironically, has a far more radical approach. Basically, as far as Martyland is concerned, its KSW for the whole planet and destruction without sorrow for those who resist. Remember this:

Because we know you were right that the truth shall set us free

and that is one thing no dictator will ever take away

it will be your real friends standing at the end of day

humanity freed, the only proper acknowledgment of thee

(Closing stanza in Marty's Ode to L Ron Hubbard.)

I'm not sure Marty would take to being called a squirrel! :)

The more I think about it the more I think that one lot are more "adventurous" with the tech and will use other stuff, break Hubbard's rules, use Bill Robertson stuff etc. These are the FZers. The "Indies" on the other hand don't seem to be as willing to do that, at least I think Marty & Co are on that trip.

Edit: Infinite beat me to it :)

I get what you are saying about Marty vs Freezone, but we used to call other guys Independents who had even less alliance with Hubbard. I'm talking about Idenics and Knowledgism primarily here. Did Marty give himself this label, or was it handed to him?

It reminds me of the Cheshire cat in Alice in Wonderland when he said..
"When I use a word it means exactly what I intend for it to mean, neither more nor less."

I guess since I'm not part of this culture really I am not really the person who should answer. My interest in the subject is that I am actually glad that the subject is confusing. LOL

....and you're right I probably shouldn't call Marty a squirrel. Of all the squirrels I have observed he seems to have the least sense of humor.

Maybe we could have the Freezone forum just called Squirrels? Haha, I love it. :D

Hmmm...It might have been handed to him but he took it on and uses it himself all the time now.

You're right about what we used to call the Independents. What are we supposed to call them now?

This gets very confusing.

Its really just an artificial distinction that Marty likes to use. He likes to classify Freezoners as squirrels in a divisive way. Below part of a post I
made addressing this point and showing what an artificial distinction it is.

------------------------------
Here is an incomplete list of Freezoners who were delivering before you were on

the net and many while you were still in COS, and who have come out on your forum or were praised by you or post here at least more than a couple of posts.

Ken Urquhart

Trey Lotz

Chris Black

Pat Krenik

Ralph Hilton

Mary Freeman

Frankie Freeman

Les Warren

Anita Warren

Roy Selby

Then some who came out on this blog and are now C/Sing for

Freezone Groups.

Glen Samuels Senior C/S for Pat and Ray Krenik and Roy Selby, and maybe others.

Dan Koon C/S for Freezoners in his neck of the woods.

Helen Chen and Partner [ Mat Pesch?] anyway using Trey Lotz as an auditor and maybe other things.

You calling them squirrel?

Well, when I started calling myself an Indie Scientologist, I mainly meant I was one on my own terms and didn't necessarily want to be classified as a Free Zoner, which was something that happened from time to time.

I was doing my own thing as a Scn'ist.

However, it very much appears that Marty Rathbun has kind of taken that term and made it his own OR that others have applied it to him and made it his. I'm really not sure which.

That's because, when I coined the term, I didn't want there to be any hard and fast rules. I just wanted to do my own thing.

Why not just call people what THEY want to be called? They'll tell you. They really will.
