This is just a fantastic video! They keep getting better and better, and this one is a personal favorite of mine now. This is a wonderful "fireside chat" video of Mark telling the story of his suggestion to Anonymous/Chanology to be good, and behave in a legal manner. Now, at the time, Chanology was new. It was ruckus and bawdy (aka naughty) in many ways, but considering where it was born, that is a given. So, Anonymous had various prank ideas, which were deemed funny enough, as to get consensus. Believe it or not, consensus was the way back then. So, people might think it funny to send hundreds of black faxes (sending a sheet of black paper over a fax to an Org x 500, to run their printer ink out), or to send a few dozen pizzas, or hookers, or what have you. DDoS, and other hijinks were afoot. So, here comes this OG saying that Anons should be careful as to not mess up. Now, this was already held as a good idea by some Anons, but the 4chan style lols were still alive too, and that was important to some. Almost instantly, he was called Wise Beard Man, or WBM. What he was saying made as much sense as bringing a mask, water bottles and cake to a 4 hour raid. Suddenly and irrevocably, he became a voice of reason. It was unprecedented, and surely will never happen again in the world of Anonymous.

I really loved what Karen says about the underground tunnels that people were drilled to take, should an appearance of Anonymous occur. I had never heard this story! But, I do remember protesting outside an Org and a staff member coming out to say that the more we oppose them, the more they expand. Of course, this turned out to be a lie. But one can't help but notice how they hide and cover their windows when protesters appear. What happened to communicating on any topic? What about shattering SPs and PTS? What about creating a "better" environment as an OT? In reality, they were running and hiding, and having people slip in the back door when protesters arrived.

When I was in training at Flag in 98/99, when there were protesters (Dec every year - for Lisa McPherson), there was heavy security around every entrance and exit. There is no way to travel underground at Flag. Sometimes I had to go from the Fort Harrison (which is where auditing occurred for lower level PC's and where I did my Internships) to the Coachman building. Without protesters, you could walk the couple of blocks. They also always provided buses as well. During protesting, security would watch the protesters and radio the bus driver when he could come around to this one side door and then all of us would RUN out and pack onto the bus and take off before the protesters got back around the corner. It was ridiculous.

It was those protesters at Flag and someone carrying a coffin that made me start thinking. And it began my doubt, serious doubt, and eventual journey out.

When I got to the Coachman, I was still kind of watching the protesters. One of the OSA or security people told me that I could go talk to them if I wanted to, since I was OT. They said one of the guys freezes heads for a living or something. I had no idea what they were talking about. I did not go talk to the protesters though.

At PAC (big blue) there are tunnels between all of the major buildings. They are wide and long and can hold hundreds of people at a time. That is where all the RPF members are most of the time.

Now, at the time, I was unaware of Mark taking down his video post, but attention was very much on sci taking it down elsewhere on the internet. In defiance, Gawker refused to remove it, as it was newsworthy. This made Gawker instantly awesome. The feeling at the time, was that sci tries to censor the internet, and that cannot stand. But, there was everything else they were doing, and when you add it up, was reason enough to dismantle them.

When Project Chanology was born, it was helped by some trolling. Some people found out and got mad, some didn't care (me, for example), and some never knew. Here's what happened: at 4chan there were moderators. Some of them thought they could encourage consensus by ... cheating. As moderators, they could delete posts that opposed the support of Project Chanology, and with additional anonymous posts of support, a certain few people made it look as if consensus was reached. I think it would have happened anyway, but it happened the way it happened, so I'm happy either way. To me, it was the best troll ever, because scientology really did need to come down. If you've ever heard someone say that Chanology was started by a cabal, or named that cabal, saying it was Marblecake, it is true, to the degree that bringing influence to encourage the success of Chanology was what they did. The same moderator also made the Message to Scientology video, with a few friends.

This is what I found so interesting about Mark's take on the situation. The video was a good troll in itself - kinda scary, kinda threatening, and the robotic voice of "David", gave a sense that this was really going to happen, and no one can stop it. When 10,000 hit the streets in protest, it was bigger than anyone expected. The forum Enturbulation.org went up quickly, to coincide with the rest of the actions that had been put into place, and became the global forum for Project Chanology.

Now I'm just rambling.

I love when you guys act these things out - I don't know how you don't crack up on camera! I bet the blooper reel would be hilarious! But even though I enjoy the humour I love how the satire gets the serious message across. They're just so clever, and as I think I've said before, they're getting better and better.
