Monica Pignotti Quentin had four suicide attempts before this one. I know about this because I was his twin on the RPF and we audited one another for many hours. The one that was known by most people was the one on the ship where he took the pills, which was the third one but after that one was the fourth one that was very similar to what happened when he finally did it. Quentin told me about this when he returned to the ship after a leave. He went to the US and once he arrived in New York City, he decided he wanted to commit suicide. He shared with me that whenever he got away from the SO this urge came over him to kill himself or as he called it "drop his body". He hid his passport and all of his identification in New York City behind a bathroom mirror in a hotel and then took off for California. He had planned to jump off the Golden Gate Bridge but couldn't bring himself to do it. He then wandered along some California road where he was picked up and taken to a mental hospital where he pretended to have amnesia. Like the later time Karen talked about, Quentin did not tell them who he was and the GO combed the country looking for him. They finally found him at which time Quentin pretended to regain his memory and the GO arranged to have him sent back to the ship. When Q got back, he told me all about this. A year later after I left the SO, Q and I exchanged letters and he had written to me about the woman who had cancer and how he had gotten all his auditing certs canceled and was on a complete retrain. He said he was trying to get approval for a leave of absence so he could train to become a pilot but that didn't work out. Then suddenly I heard nothing more from him and months later I got the call from the GO that he had died. This was his fifth attempt that unfortunately was successful.

Monica Pignotti Yes, he was perhaps the sweetest person I ever met. After I got out, I would have done anything to help him and was hoping he would contact me, as I would have been glad to give him a place to stay, but I think he just felt lost outside the SO and didn't reach out to anyone. Like Karen said, I don't think we'll ever know what happened in those two weeks. He died at the airport in Las Vegas watching the planes taking off and landing, his favorite thing to do.
