What's new

Let's play the "what's being buried?"

Some of the old ARS veterans may recognize the pattern: someone posts something that the cult dosent like, so OSA/lensemen (same diff) start crapflooding to drown out the signal.

Now,
What dosen't OSA/lensemen want you to read?

Some of the a.r.s. regulars may recognize this pattern-- let's start a witch hunt! Let's say that some people are OSA! And if we can't handle the resulting flak then we'll just imply it as a chickenshit manoeuver to fling shit hoping it will stick!

There was a sort of "dark horse" thread started by Alanzo where he challenged lurkers to start posting. It had lot's of posts and lots of views and at least two people posted who said that they had been lurking.

This would piss off OSA IMO. It is a statistically measurable success for their enemies. I suppose they may feel they can hide to number of exes and critics by planting fake exes and critics. Even if they don't publish or promote it they must feel better if they can think that some percentage of people talking negatively are really the good guys in disguise.

They can enter our community and do the diverting and attacking thing and try to scare the newly out fence sitters back into the cult. Just as the newly out and fence sitters are of big interest to us, they are no doubt a major concern for OSA.

I say we arm wrestle them for it. Winner take all lurkers and fence sitters!

well not to rain on any speculative parades but on ARS, as on any newsgroup, just posting messages moves other embarassing things off the page and further back.

Not how it works here - starting a new thread doesn't just move other threads down very much.

getting people to post on a noisy thread doesnt accomplish much either - people are on message boards generally because they like to post so having one more thread to post on is cool.

Which is a long way round for me to say that I doubt there is something they are trying to bury.

There are two srats that the OSA uses (among others). One is to put trolls on that start loads of threads about tripe. The other is to cleverly derail a thread that might pique the interest of a church lurker and make that thread look bad.

Geir Isine's thread is one the OSA would hate to go too well. There are many more. But top OTs who are very successful in business and family are the 'opinion leaders' in the church where so many struggle.

Can't have a guy like that who everyone wants to be just leave and take a third of the people that ever knew him out of the cult forever.

opinion leaders

Wow, just the title gives me the creep.

I mean people are actually given the role of formulating opinions for others?
I'm interested in this aspect, could anyone point me in the right direction to know more about these ''opinion leaders''?

The idea comes from PR tech, not just Hubbard's. For example Oorah is an opinion leader in the sense that if she endorses an idea or product others will take her opinion and also endorse/buy that product or idea, without examining the idea or product for themselves
Limbaugh is an OL. You can hear his words mimicked by others on talk shows all over the country.
This PR method bypasses having to influence an entire public. You just go after who they believe.

Thanks for the clarifications.
Still creepy though :p

Personally I agree with Feral on this one - there's an OT VIII who's been a "go-to" man for the cult and he's pulled the plug publicly after 2 YEARS OF RESEARCH and he says the stats are all crap.

OSA must bury this by doing the usual - derail the actual thread and start up a lot of traffic that pulls in replies and so push the "offending" thread into obscurity (or so they hope.)

I'm off to bump a thread. :D
