in fact i have myself been driven all the way into insanity and been incapable of love myself. it's not a very pleasant condition but it can be necessary to the successful completion of some unfortunately requisite tasks...

mr hubbard is a puzzling and enigmatic figure. in conjunction with some inspired colleagues his life work is downright protean and yet even to the end he was sporadically posessed of most juvenile folly. still his harshest critics remain intent upon magnifying embellishing and exagerating his faux pas. the worst that apparently credible first hand testimony nails him on is operation pc freakout. i certainly don't endorse that but paulette produced rita skeeter journalism. in as much as quentin was found in a coma with semen in his anus and two years later the man "who may or may not have been quentin's gay lover" was found murdered in las vegas, we can plausibly suspect him of at least complicity in murder but i'd be more likely to think that trail might trace to mary sue. and there were several times i found passages in the materials that were chilling in their sinister overtones. still for all of this he is the central figure of a movement which has produced remarkable direct results and has as well been broadly influential, even to the point of being significant in sparing western civilization from nuclear holocaust
