I hate hate hate the beach, too. Ick.

I love the beach - on a day that's not too hot, not too cold, when the waves are tidy, when there's not any weed in the water, or stinging creatures, or sharks, or bratty kids throwing sand. And there's a nice cafe with outdoor seating and shade in view of the water where you can sit and drink coffee and watch the surf while you dry off and then go home without getting the car seat all wet or sandy.

Yeah, I love the beach.

I love the Beach. I love the Caribbean, with it's white sands and turquoise water.
Our new home faces the Ocean, at the confluence of Strait of Juan de Fuca and Hood Canal. There are miles of beaches. Lots of them are Clamming beaches, if you're into Clambakes on the Beach.

Texas is the only place I can think of that I don't like, and the climate is largely responsible for that, plus the ignorance of the Texan when it comes to Race, Gender, Religious affiliation, Mexicans, Jews, poor people, etc etc. New York City runs a close second to Texas, for different reasons.

The Mall. I absolutely loathe going to the mall, any mall. I hate that it takes an hour to park and you have to walk a mile from where you parked to the entrance..and then its like another 6 miles to the shop you want. All while being accosted by perfume/lotion/toy/food testers. Have to deal with the yammering of the 100 or so teenagers girls all walking together with bags filled with things they don't need and were bought with their parents hard earned money. The snotty sales associates that think you're beneath them. Everything is overpriced. Do I really need to pay $40 for lip gloss?

I like that song, it's just about the only Spanish I know. If I remember correctly, "Yo soy un hombre sincero de donde crece la palma," which translates to "I am a truthful man from the land of the palm trees."

I hate the water. Don't like swimming, find it rather frightening. Dislike beach inspired decor. Don't like boats or fishing. I do, however, like some of it in pictures or tv. There's a park that runs along the side of the landmass in the area of Seattle where I live that is lovely. It's rocks and the Sound and some benches-no swimming, boating, or shops, so one can always finds a place to park. I do like to go there, as the ocean stays a respectable distance from me and I can just look at it.

I'll paste in the link in the next post as, for some reason, when I type on a tablet, it does not copy and paste links where I want them, if the post already has quoted text.

Anyway, I prefer the woods.

What he said.

I used to live in South Florida. I allowed my mother to drag me to Disneyland a few years ago.

Two things:

1) The drive from South Florida to Orlando could possibly be the most boring one on earth (besides the drive going through Texas, that is). Miles of hot, dusty, monotonous highway. An occasional dead armadillo is the only thing that breaks up the landscape.

2) There is no place in the world which is more ugly than Orlando. (Well, maybe Ocala...)

Reminds me of when I travelled with some buddies to Mardi Gras and through the south. I slept in the back seat of the VW bug and they slept out in the open. They got rained on, mosquito bitten and got chiggers. I couldn't walk in the morning because my legs were dead from the knees down but I think I got the better deal.

Not crazy about going to shows and concerts at giant sports arenas. Same goes for those large festivals we have in Seattle. The crowds are outrageous , hard to find parking. I love shows and concerts and fests themselves, though. I go to smaller venues.

New Jersey is a good one. The smell hits you right across the GWB, you can't make a fucking left turn, and what do you mean I have to get out of the car to input the code for my company car's fuel card, but still have to wait for the attendant to pump the actual gas? Because of employment? If that's the best they can do for job creation, they are in deep, deep shit. Unless there is a dire need, the only things I do in Jersey is stop to take a leak and drive out of it. That's right, all I leave in Jersey are exhaust fumes and piss. How's that for hate? :melodramatic:

Talking about the meadows? It was a real stinker back in the 50's. You had to hold your nose going over some rivers, especially in the summer. Much improved when I revisited in the 80's. Still it wasn't a joy to behold.

Yeah. The stench comes and goes in intensity, but it's always there if you roll the windows down. It's gotten a bit worse in recent years. But I can imagine it was quite a bit worse before the EPA and clean air and water acts.

NJ also gave us the cast of Jersey Shore, though I have a friend who was a bouncer in the Meatpacking District, and he assured me that the epicenter of Guido culture is actually on Staten Island, and not in Jersey, but still...

Am from upstate NY. Lots of Guidos and Guidettes there. Jersey Shore cast creeps me out-reminds me too much.

How far upstate? To a Manhattanite (who probably was not born in NY), anything north of White Plains is Upstate. To real New Yorkers, it's Albany and points north and west.
