thanks tamasin, that's very interesting. Creed Pearson seems to know alot about the occult too. I think I'm going to take lessons from him. He's got a website and a section at lermanet. r.

Would not surprise me if Scn is an environmental testing grounds for the implementation of this or that in order to determine which program is most effective in developing total control over people.

Supplant their identity with one you want them to have until they begin mocking it up -- at which point they will continue to mock it up.

Sound familiar?

These are not coincidental happenings, very little "just happens", it is usually planned out and then implemented.

I'm not all that certain that LRH was aware of this . . . in the beginning.

Magic

Magic and the occult generally are by no means as evil or as wonderful as people now seem to think. The particular brand of magic that Aleistair Crowley liked was essentially developed from the Kabalah, the esoteric branch of Judaism. However there is such a lot of invented tradition about it that it's hard to say what is in fact true or not.

I agree that Scn was heavily influenced by Magic, but that's no very bad thing. And any comparison of anyone or anything to Hitler and nazis automatically renders the argument meaningless, as anyone who has spent time on news groups knows all too well.

That's a miscomprehension of what's often called the 'Godwin's Law', which isn't really a 'law' but instead, an observation that eventually any discussion will devolve to a comparison with Naziism.

Even talking about cats and dogs will eventually involve a comparison with Naziism.

As true as this is, it *means* nothing. It especially doesn't mean that once someone uses a Nazi comparison that he's *lost* the argument.

Because, some comparisons to Naziism are *accurate*.

For example, comparisons of Scientology and Naziism. Or Scientology and Stalinism. Or Scientology and Thugee or Flat-Earthism.

I'll agree that it's seldom useful *tactically* to compare Scientology to Naziism, however accurate, because it's such a common comparison that it's usually ignored and to use it invites ho-hummism.

Scientology is bad enough in its own right, even it it's far less 'successful' than Naziism.

Still, the similarities are very real.

Indeed. The early Science of Survival quoted " 50,000 years of thinking man." I'd say that includes magick.

I too see this as a plus point.

Trust the Psi Corps.
The "occult", and "cult" are not necessarily related.

The use of magic (sorry T.I., but my linguistic searches reveal that the word "magick" is a corruption to make it look older) is in and of itself not a good or a bad thing.

It is the motivation behind it. Even in anger, you must still summon love to perform these rites (which are basically a physical affirmation/reinforcement of a postulate anyway). If you go home from an argument wishing that your opponent would fall out of the evolutionary tree and break a few limbs, that's gonna come back and smack you in the face so hard your ears will be ringing for weeks.

You must take the time to cool down, and then look at the situation objectively. Perhaps you're the one pushing diarrhea uphill with a fork, and need to apologise to the other party? If you're 100% certain of your facts, then put it out there: "Power/Life Force/God/I Am/Other Name for Supreme Being of Universe, thank you for showing BOTH OF US the error of our ways so that we may find peace and correctness on this issue?"

When you look at so many HCOBs, lrh was venting his spleen over some perceived insult or threat--LOVE was not the motivation behind those bulletins. By all means, he should have typed it up, and then shredded it to get it out of his own universe, and then look for a more "alleged Scientological ARC" solution.

Edit:

I was only ever taught one particular "ritual" which was supposed to bring in money. It didn't. But I have used it and variations of it as a physical activity that reinforces the postulate I am creating. The much malighned Bible has it right when it says "Ask as though you have received." If you keep asking for it tomorrow, well tomorrow never comes. You ask for it as though it's already sitting on the dining room table. In some circumstances where I have perceived the need for some sort of ritual, not to re-inforce my belief but to bring about belief in a being that would otherwise do harm, I have made up rituals on the spot. "Give me a glass of water, some salt and, and, and ... a turkey baster!"

So I reiterate: Magic/Occult is neither black nor white. It is the practitioner who imbues good or evil on the powers that are there for us all.
