Probably Hubbard based his Postulate Theory on some other theories -- he is known for "borrowing" valid scientific theories without mentioning their authors' names. I could give some examples of his plagiarism, but I do not want to bring extraneous data to this thread. But this Postulate Theory, or whatever it is called, has nothing to do with Dianetics.

In his Dianetics Volumes ! and II Hubbard wrote that the PC should be taken through the incidents when he was unconscious + the birth + prenatal period because these are the times when he became chock-full-of engrams. All other incindents are of no value to Dianetics.

For example, if a PC had observed an act of terrorism but remained unharmed by it, there is no need to run Dianetics auditing on him.

It appears to me that you ask your PCs to recall the times when they were not unconscious, which led me to conclusion that the procedures that you use have nothing to do with Dianetics.

I didn't say they were not unconscious.. I just ask them if there is an incident that is accessable and can be run now. Their "file clerk" or whatever you want to call it coughs up an incident to be run. Whatever they give me, I help them run it. I haven't thought about whether or not they were unconscious.. but I am guessing they were to some degree. Not necessarily Out Cold, but not in present time, making logical decisions.. under severe stress of some kind. You can be beaten up with bones broken, and not totally unconscious.. If Ron ever said Dianetics was ONLY for Prenatals, I can say that has not been what my PCs have been coughing up to run :)

PS: If you tell them they must run a Prenatal incident or a Birth incident, you are breaking all the rules of the auditors code.. you are not supposed to evalulate for the preclear, or give them incidents to run.. at least that's how we view it.

I would like to briefly mention the subject of overts or confessions -- whether writing them up brings peace of mind depends on a person. Some people feel liberated when they confess their sins to a Catholic priest, for instance. But personally I never had a burning desire to talk about my overts.

For me, personally, I find that taking responsibility for my harmful acts makes me more conscious of them, and less likely to repeat them. I don't have to tell anyone or confess to others, but I like to at least inform myself :)

Hubbard was very specific when he described the unconscious incidents -- these are the incidents caused by direct hit in the head as in a car accident, for instance; fall from a hourse; inhalation of poisonpus gases, and similar things. Extreme mental stress does not fall into the above category. If a bone fracture is followed by severe pain, then this is a moment of unconsciousness; otherwise, it is not (broken ribs, for instance, do not cause that kind of pain).

When the PC is led back in time to the earlier incidents of unconsciousness, according to Hubbard, sooner or later he will hit the time of birth -- this is how Dianetics auditing is done. For some reason Hubbard believed that a newborn baby is unconscious, although the medical evidence suggests otherwise.

The PC won't go voluntarily to the prenatal period, so he must get specific orders from the auditor to go there. Only when the prenatal engrams, including the abortion attempts, run out the PC becomes Clear.

In rare cases there are engrams that precede the prenatal period. In such cases the PC must go back in time when he was a spermatozoon (Hubbard calls these moments "sperm dreams"). This is really weird; I have forced one of my PCs to recall the time when he was a sperm.

He was swimming in a sea of spermatozoons towards something he called a gate. He was the first one to reach the gate. He was jumping for joy and screaming in unknown language, "I made it, I made it!!". He even uttered couple of words in that language and then translated his speech to me.

"This must be the God's language", I thought before succumbing to uncontrollable laughter.

Hmm.. well all I can say, is I have "run out" incidents of some kind where the person was not completely unconscious, and the incident was not prenatal, and the PC has had wins. If that is not Dianetics, I am using the Dianetic principles to help someone overcome a time they were beat up by their dad, or their wife left them, or their child died, etc.. I would NEVER tell the PC to run a prenatal... to me, that is evaluating.. just as I would not tell a person to run OTIII on themselves.. I do not believe in evaluation in any way.. perhaps that is another of LRH's traps.. Let the auditor know he is not supposed to evaluate, and then make him evaluate (???)

Thanks Noname... however, now these guys are making me wonder if my wins are all in my head LOL Still.. Dianetics seems MUCH MORE EFFECTIVE using the decision questions. You can even get Fancy, and cycle thru THESE questions:

A. In that incident did you make a decision? (have the PC state the decision
as he would have at the time and have him repeat it two or three times or
until it stops reading on the meter)

Why did you decide (or think) that?

B. Tell me an emotion or feeling you had in that incident. (get answer) If
you could have expressed that emotion/feeling in a sentence how would you
have said it? ditto on repeat

Why did you feel that way?

C. In that incident did you make any negative or limiting decision about
yourself? ditto repeat/why?

D. In that incident did you make any decision about the future or how you
would deal with similar things in the future? ditto repeat/why?

E. In that incident did you have any unanswered question? Did anything seem
weird or mysterious or not understandable?
If yes, then- If you could have asked that as a question how would you have
asked it?

Repeat question two or three times or until it stops reading.

What caused you to have that question?

PS: Another interesting thing.. my friend Bev was on the Dianetic book auditor course, and was doing her student auditing session practice with another student.. and when she got to the end of the INCIDENT (no postulates) she was supposed to end the session, but the tone arm, which had started around 6, was only down to about 4. She thought to herself that something wasn't quite right, so she just asked the person, "Is there anything else you want to say about that"? And the person just TALKED about it, what they thought about it, how they felt about it, etc, until the tone arm went down to about 2, and they had a nice blow down VGI's. When she wrote up the session, she got in trouble for going BEYOND the running of the INCIDENT.. after that, she got sneaky.. she realized what she had done had worked, and did it on ALL her PCs, but just didn't write it up in her report. She felt kind of guilty, but the idea that maybe she knew better than Ron never entered her head.. she just thought she was a Squirrel, and really didn't quite get it.

This sounds more like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which I really had legitimate non-medicated wins with. Doesn't resemble the "auditing light" that I tried in any way.

PS: I have a different method.. perhaps I am not a Scientologist at all LOL

I am perfectly happy to let the PC run a time an ant walked over their hand, if they want to run it and it is a reading item. What do I know? If it bothers them, and they have wins, that's all that counts to me. If I FORCE Them to run a prenatal that they don't want to run, where does that get them really? Thinking I know more than them.. confusing their "file clerk".. depending on ME to give them their items.. hmm.. sounds like LRH at work

asking a PC "why" is an illegal auditing question. Asking "why" is addressing the analytical mind. A better question is "tell me about that" or Q's that stay in the reactive mind. Think about it before you dismiss this as BS.

Dilpickle,

It seems to me that you are doing what caring people do all over the world for and with each other (but they do it without an E-meter or any silly scientological twaddle) ... you are letting people chat to you and apparently they feel better, give them a cup of tea next time and just be a friend and stop trying to be their therapist, because you are not.

Hmm.. all I know is that it seems to be working.. folks seem to be handling those incidents, and they don't seem to be coming back.. Maybe the WHY question addresses the analytical mind because the analytical mind has something sensible to say about it at that point, once the charge is OFF the actual incident itself (force). I'll ask my friend/partner what he thinks.. he's the one who came up with the WHY part. Heck.. I don't know how long you have to keep listening to what that reactive mind has to say, anyway LOL

I have a procedure that is working, so I use it. I also do like to make folks cups of tea and chat, and sometimes just being a good listener works wonders also :) Plus.. I've been so busy with helping my mom for the last 4 years that I don't have any PCs anyway now. That's my friend's department.

Well, please tell your friend to stop pretending to be a therapist for me then.
