Oh yeah, then Ruth from New York, who must have been about 60 at the time.
She used to shuffle around the kitchen and say very sternly, something like

"milk only only for tea......"

With her lovely New Yorker accent

Wouldn't a reuniion be a great thing, dont you think, then we could all go down to Saint Hill for a guided tour of the manor.....:eyeroll:
 
The only one I have a bit of info on is Tony Baziuk. A couple of years ago I posted the following here on ESMB:

When I last saw Tony around 1994 or so he was in ABLE Int. Googling his name brings up his support of some Narconon cause in 2006:

I remember Johannes, xseaorguk, but not his surname. His partner looked like Heidi. She wore her hair in pigtails.

Hello ex SO uk.

I will try to bring you upto 2006 on some of those that you asked about.

Nicola was married to JM Leserve, and spent most of her career with her husband in the House Hold Unit of SH Manor. JM was transfered to Finance Office and both were still there and doing ok last I knew. Vashti remained in Programs Branch FOLO as of July 2006, has two daughter, Tamara and ? Lovely girls, one is badly overweight the other almost anorexic. Chris Whittam, her husband, was on the RPF with only a two month reprieve after the 1980’s amnesty, for most of my career in the SO, he was eventually posted in Plymouth as garrison ED, he had really bad body odour. He screwed that up too and went back to the RPF, where he was when I last saw him, his long suffering wife remained dedicated and loyal and suffering the indignities of life in FOLO UK or SHF as she was some of the time (DCO E&I there for a bit)

Ruth was married to the old AOSH MLO, Alex, that is in 1987 or so. He got approval to take an LOA to go to family in Australia to die, compassionate leave they called it. Ruth had died the year previously. Ruth was a crusty thing, likable though and she never liked the conditions. Alex was an old time gentleman, lovely and kind. I am glad his last days in Australia were peaceful and lived in some dignity.

John Cox was wonderful, he used to pilot DC3s over Borneo in the war, air lifting supplies to troops and friendlies in the jungles, he told me a lot about that, but said that he was just the co pilot and really didn’t do much. They don’t make them with that gentle self depreciation anymore do they? Eat your heart out Andy McNab! He briefly went back to his profession as a geologist after the war and bumped into Hubbard’s stuff somewhere along the line. He would always give me a few fags when I was out – which was most of the time, before we got the duty free stuff coming in frm Belgium, but that is another story.

Wasn't Sheila Massy-Hicks was known as Sheila Massive Hips? Though I don't remember her I do remember the name.

Does anyone know what happened to George Hanson? he used to drive post around for FLUK.

Thanks for that info. I remember all those people mentioned and knew Alex and John very well.

Sheila Massey Hicks was bookstore Officer at one point and I beleive she returned to South Africa. I don't know if this is true but the one time MLO Joan Crozier told me that Sheila had a boyfriend who died in an accident. Apparently he was sawing a branch off a tree which he happenned to be sitting on and fell to his death. Dulloldfart may know if thats true or not as he was at AOSH UK for some time. As for George Hanson. The name rings a bell but thats all.

Sheila was Dissem Sec for a long time. I hadn't heard the story about the boyfriend. I will resist commenting on dying in that manner.

Sheila was engaged to Reg Tristham. He was working on a tree pruning it when he slipped and fell out of it. He did not sit on the branch he was sawing. It was a tragedy. Reg was a nice guy and his mother, Helen Ham was on lines at the time. She was devistated.

Sheila never really got over his death and when I saw her in Jo'burg in 1981 she still had issues about it.

Did you know Sheila was an international pistol shooter. She represented S. Africa on several occasions.

1972-1981

This thread another great ramble down memory lane. A few things that came to mind:
Great fun around 1974 when Dave Flood, on the way back from lunch at the Stables, climbed a tree between the Manor and the lake and fell out of it on to his head. He got total amnesia, couldn't even remember his name. It was so wierd we all thought he was faking it. He was berthed in the little corner at the far end of the ballroom and the rest of us in there were warned to watch he didn't climb out the window during the night and make sure he came back from the toilet if he got up. As he recovered (if he did?) he got the idea that my wee brother Alistair Guy had caused his accident by 'intending' it, since Alistair had been promoted from under Dave to over him, when Bernie Radburn left Treasury to join his wife in the GO ( for the luxury of rented accommodation in EG and every weekend off, plus a wage that made SO pay look sick).

I remember John Cox as a really mellow Cramming Officer who could find the easiest way through my HE&R about how it was the other person who should be corrected. Also as examiner he would keep calmly checking can grip, etc till he saw a F/N, so I really had to work at it to get a Red Card when the session had sucked.

Hearing a few mentions of Chris Lake, with Paul's accurate observation of her obvious bralessness, reminds me that when we were being ferried back and forward between SH and Bullards on the floor in the back of a windowless van
I believed she was flirting with me for acouple of weeks. Eventually when I had a Saturday evening off, for a change, I worked up the courage to make a move. After dinner I walked into the crowded TV lounge in Brooke House, went up to her with a smile and asked "would you like to go for a walk?" "Yes", she replied, "but not with you". Set me back a few years, that did!

I always got on great with Laina MacNamee. She got the best out of people without harshness, and insisted that living conditions were raised towards her standards rather than accept constant deterioration like most did. She actually got me sent out to ANZO as a Tour Rep in 1979, which turned out to be a major part in my ever-so-late growing up, and the pinnacle of my SO experience. The previous 3 or 4 ANZO Tours,as I recall, had all ended up with Out-2D on the part of the missionaires (John Bellmaine, John Taylor, John Harris, Trish Morgan, even Laina herself if I remember right). Since I was always struck speechless and usually blushed in the presence of any woman I fancied, no chance of me going off the rails in that department. My vices instead were ordering lager with my meals and playing Space Invaders for hours on end, using Mission expenses. I reasoned I wasn't getting any other 'personal enhancement' for 2 months. At the end I finally managed to put the Highest Ever score on one of the invaders machines in Fast Eddy's in Perth, watched by a crowd of admiring teenagers. I logged the score as 'AOSHUK'. I was on the tour with the afore-mentioned Sheila Massey-Hicks. Not much chance of Out-2D there, folks, even though I had to go through her room to get to the bathroom when we were sharing in a motel in the red-light district of St. Kilda, Melbourne right opposite a brothel and porn shop. I remember the first time a young lady asked me at the motel entrance if I was "looking for a good time" and I told her, honestly, I was already having a great time. On that tour Sheila was a quite different character than back at SH. We had lots of interesting conversation and she taught me a great deal about social skills, especially how to find and enjoy the best restaurants. I even remember one time at Stonelands, in the Senior Women's Dorm opposite the ballroom, discovering Sheila had stuck up, on the inside of her wardrobe doors, centre-fold pin-ups of naked men from 'Playgirl' magazine.
Stonelands was actually great fun till it was over-crowded and our pay and liberties were eroded away. It's hard to believe you're in an elite group when you're having to hitch-hike in jumble-sale clothes and eventually realise you're the laughing-stock of the neighbourhood. In the mid-70s, the drive-way at Stonelands had so many vehicle-wrecking pot-holes that taxi-drivers refused to go beyond the gate and we discovered the cost of relaying it would be more than the SO had paid for the whole property.

I enjoy reading your old SO stories and of course know Stonelands and other locations you mention.
I'm always amazed at how long you guys stuck it out in the SO.
I'm sure you have some more juicy stuff to tell:eyeroll:
 
Yeah, i also enjoy reading stuff about Saint Hill, Stonelands etc. I am amazed at how much you guys remember. Almost all of the names ring bells, but often I can't put a picture or face to the name. It is also difficult to imagine that life there could ever have been fun, but I get a kick out of reading the shenanigans some of you got up to.

what was the name of the pub that was 'close' to Stonelands? for some obscure reason Michael Cusworth and I got totally plastered there one Saturday night and had some difficulty finding our way back to Stonelands.

The White Hart rings a bell. It's possible to look it up online, though. I remember noticing it when I looked up Stonelands once.

As I mentioned before, Stonelands was turned into flats in the mid 90s after the SO moved to Walsh Manor. I paid a visit to there and the environs the other day and here are some pix:

Unfortunately the light wasn’t very good, so they have a rather gloomy appearance, but you a good idea of what the place looks like now and perhaps brings back a few memories.

I even performed a re-enactment of certain Ex-Sea Org members staggering home from the White Hart, having thoroughly quenched their thirsts. When I get time, I’ll post the video here.

I used to sleep in the stable/barn, if that's what we see on the right of photo #1.
It was never in that state-of-repair when I slept there and I'm pretty sure there was no TV aerial. :lol:
