Heidrun, Sorry to not have answered your question about smoking, somehow, I just missed it, it was not an intentional snub.

At my intro lecture in 1970, Seton Thomas smoked the entire time he was giving the lecture. Several people asked him why he would smoke? What was he motivation. He had a short answer, "I like it." That was it and that was very typical of Scientologists and still is.

They alway point out that they are not their body. LRH smoked his Kools heavily and he is their ultimate Opinion Leader so they figure if he did it, then they are safe doing it. Also Scientologists have less concern about their bodies than none Scientologists. If they do get cancer and lose their body, they belief that they will pick up a new one. That is about all there is to the subject of relevance that I can see.

It will be interesting to see how your thread goes. My snippet above answers the main question fully as far as I can see t but so much more can be discussed, including medical studies, the effects on life span and all sorts of stuff. I am sorry I missed the question. Maybe something in me made me block out my reading the question so that it would spur you on to starting a new thread. I did not knowingly do it but it is probably for the best.

Hi Lakey,

that's OK, I didn't feel all too hurt. Never mind the few tears...

Of those I have met personally, Yvonne Jentzsch had the most! LRH undoubtedly had it. The only others I have encountered with great charisma were John F. Kennedy and to a lesser extent Robert F. Kennedy. President Clinton had some and Presidnet Obama not only has it, more than Clinton, but he is president only because he has it in my opinion.

Some of the legendary movie stars and comedians radiated it. Humphrey Bogart, Clark Gable, Cary Grant Marilyn Monroe, Ingrid Bergman, Marlene Dietrich, Groucho Marks. In more modern times, I would go with Paul Newman and I think Johnny Carson and Oprah as well and let's not forget Jack Nicholson.

I think your "Dumb Blonde" friend has Charisma, mixed in with competence and that is a powerful combination which is not often seen.

What is your take on this, I would be interested to hear that?

I have been looking at whether charisma can be acquired or if one just has it or they don't. Certainly one can take steps to make themselves more charismatic, dress more trendy, acquire a bigger vocabulary, develop a stylish hair style and hang out with trendy people. But deeper than all that surface stuff is a mystique and a flow which is an intangible.

The only way to get it if you were not born with it is to perhaps go through some metamorphosis such as surviving a near death experience or experiencing some cataclysmic series of events and living to tell about it.

I think the flow starts at a tone level of aesthetics and goes up from there into a sort of exhillaration of being alive. One must be stylish and show a natural thriil at being alive to eminate this flow. If you have it you have it. There is not much more to be said, if you are good friends with someone who has it, you are, as you state, very lucky and probably some of their charisma has rubbed off on you. That is another characteristic of charismatic people and one extra reason why people seek them out, because some of their charisma always rubs off on their friends.

Lakey

I've not really looked too much at the idea of "Charisma". Its got quite a few far ranging definitions. I took this one from Wikipedia:-

"Charisma (Greek "kharisma," meaning "gift," "of/from/favored by God/the divine") is a trait found in persons whose personalities are characterized by a personal charm and magnetism (attractiveness), along with innate and powerfully sophisticated abilities of interpersonal communication and persuasion. One who is charismatic is said to be capable of using their personal being, rather than just speech or logic alone, to interface with other human beings in a personal and direct manner, and effectively communicate an argument or concept to them. Luke Timothy Richard Skinner."

This is a good description of Purple Haze. Also, and interestingly,
comments on her area of competance.

The only way to get it if you were not born with it is to perhaps go through some metamorphosis such as surviving a near death experience or experiencing some cataclysmic series of events and living to tell about it.

I expect like many things its a combination of both. Your examples of
aquiring it I would say are limited ones. A life of service is not included for example. Nor a life of education,

Funnily enough, a life in scientology encompasses service, education and cataclysm.

Those who lived through this with great intention and came out the other side with some pan-determinism seem to usually be very charismatic.

Trying to keep up...

"This is an essay question. Points will be deducted for poor spelling, bad grammar, and inadequate comprehension. Extra points for brevity. You may go out and play when you are done." YIKES!! :omg:

Lakey, Please keep your eyes on your own paper.

Teddy Bear: GOOD ANSWER! :D Give that man some extra credit!

Dart- Congrats of your 1000th post! We ought to whoop it up a little that you made it here with us! :gathering::congratulations:

I believe my earlier reply to Bluey also held the "how" of the answer (let's not get into the brevity angle here, as we all know, I'm challenged in that area :bigcry:) in "being still". Being still and having the broadest possible awareness is to me the soul of "presence". I want to hear what Dart has to say about presence, after his KI training. Lotta this "OT powers" stuff (but not all) I learned through my Aikido KI training.

Yes, the issue of reading along and keeping up, not to mention cogent replies, is a time sink! That's why I started my "Golden Quotes" thread! :)

You know, I didn't enter in so much on the Sex in the Sea Org thread, cause I've not been in the Sea Org (although I'm still getting recruitment letters every so often:confused2:) but now that my Buddy Heidrun has pumped some life back into it (so to speak :coolwink:) I'm gonna hafta go check it out! :D

I do think our Lakey Cadre here is raising the collective tone of the Board a bit, thread by thread! (No brag, just fact!:D)

For me, on the combination of both....the jury is still out. As just a guess, I would day, its 75% you are born with it, 25% can be picked up. A life of service, that gives one pride and commands respect from others but I don't see it as being a factor contributing to one radiating charisma. A life of education, not usually, in fact I would strongly disagree with that if a life is spent in stndard U.S. University liberal arts education. People pursuing standard educational venues in Earth's societies can be some of the biggest, most pompou, opinionated, stuffed shirt boors one could ever meet with no charisma whatsoever. Now if you are talking REAL EDUCATION, getting out into life with all kinds of people and living amongst them and viewing things from their perspectives, then yes, I think a person doing that can definitely develop charisma, greater than the 25% which I allowed above.

Funnily enough, a life in scientology encompasses service, education and cataclysm.

The odd part of it is that the service was represented as being a noble activity, the freeing of mankind. started out that way but degenerated into the service being not for mankind but for LRH or DM.

Those who lived through this with great intention and came out the other side with some pan-determinism seem to usually be very charismatic.

Your last line is very powerful and spot on I agree 100% with that one! By the way, all my opinions are just my opiniions, no more than that, just off the cuff comments with no research at all behind them.

Your point number 2 is a must! I had missed that point completely. Thanks so much for bringing up that point!

I thought of 4 more charismatic people from the past. Mark Twain, Winston Churchill, Elvis and PresidentTeddy Roosevelt. They all had that "don't fuckl with me attitude." Old Teddy said, "Speak softly but carry a big stick." Elvis said, "Stay off of my Blue Suede Shoes." Mark Twain said, "I never let having to go to school interfere with my education." and Sir WInston said, "I have nothing to offer you but blood, sweat and tears."

An example of what a guy would be like if he had all the ingredients of charisma ixcept for the "Don't Fuck with me Attitude." is the pianist Liberace. He had a lot of radiance and caring kindness but anyone could see that they could fuck with him (in more ways than one) so his near charisma sort of just made him the butt of jokes and somone to poke fun at.

How about a new thread on Charisma? That would be much more interesting than smoking. Heidrun! Fornt and Center. "At Ease" I have a new assignment for you, start a new thread on Charisma."

I thought I would use my 1,000th post to correct the misconceptions voiced about David Bowie recently.

Later on, I met up with Mick Ronson when he was preparing his album "Slaughter on 4th Avenue". He told me himself what had happened in LA.:duh:

,,,,,,< Snip >

The GO wanted me to try and "recover" Bowie, but he was a friend and I knew it would be a waste of time.

I trust this clarifies any misconceptions that may have arisen on this matter.

BTW, whatever happened to the original theme of this thread? :confused2:

Dart

Thank you Dart for clearing up the controvery! I feel vindicated and CCLA management is also vindicated for not lying to the staff. I witnessed the band coming for one day, studying LRH during the day, rehearsing at night, studying LRH the next morining and then leaving in their bus. I reported correctly what I saw. This John Mac Masters fellow calls my whole post rubbish, feigns some knowledge of inside information which is greater than mine, so I give him the benefit of the doubt and incorporate his data. You, who really have inside info clear up the matter and debunk Mac Master in the process. I am an honest reporter and tell only the truth. If I don't know much, as in this case, I just tell what little I know. I am also proud of spotting Mac Master's major outpoint which was saying Bowie was never a Scientologist but was vehemently against it. That is an "oxymoron" as I pointed out.

On the orignal theme of the thread, you are owed an explanation and here it is:
1: I wanted to tell my story from inside Scn when I first arrived hear in Feb, 09. I had 6 momths as public at L.A. Org, 1 year public at CCLA, 2 years Sea Org at CCLA and 2 months Sea Org at the Apollo. After that I was in for about 28 more years as public. My first story and main story was at CCLA but I was mainly just in Treasury so I thought, quite erroneously, that my CCLA story would be boring so I decided to tell my Apollo story first, figuring it would get a lot more "views"

2. I ran the Apollo story as a total newbie here and was a good writer but very few people knew me. It was a modest success. I got 2200 views and it died out in less than a month.

3. 7 Months past where I posted on a lot of threads and settled down on Vinaire's Oh!God!! thread. While there for months I spotted how Vinny got so many views and replies. Its very easy to see what he does if you look and so I learned that tech and wanted now to write my CCLA story.

4. It made no sense to start a brand new thread for that! The Apollo thread had a small following so why not write the CCLA thread as a continuation of the Apollo thread but instead call it a prequel because it came first. Using the tech I had learned from Vinny, I revivified the thread in prequel form, wrote the first story of the CCLA thread which actually started at the L.A. Org in June of 1970 and eagerly watched the ratings of "views".

5.The prequel took off quickly and within days, I upped the views to 5,000 which was my goal, I pressed on and at around 6,700 views the thing was starting to die out. I was going to quit right there, I believe it was the end of October. Sweetness and Light told me to keep writing, that I still had more to say.

6. The story was over so what to do? I came up with creating an Appendix with various lists such as my favorite staff members in each category, little personal blurbs about each staff member that I remembered. This type of stuff was successful and revivied the views stat.

7. I CAME UP WITH DOING RESTAURANT REVIEwS OF THE EATERIES NEAR THE VARIOUS ORGS AND THIS DID TWO THINGS. First it blew the lid off of stats again and Secondly, about this time, Carmelo, who had been lurking and writing little corrections about errors which I had been making starting writing funny posts about sports venues, entertainers of the time, Disc Jockeys of the time, we got on to the great comedians of the old days, especially Jack Benny. We were now about 400 views a day, where I understand 250 is considered vey high here.

I discussed things with Carmelo when we hit 10,000 views around Dec 4th. I toyed with changing the name of the thread or just starting a new thread. I thought that I had a sort of Lakey brand name a little because we were getting 400 views a day. Carmelo and some of my other viewers liked the direction the post was going and started bringing over some of the bigger beings on ESMB such as yourself, Roger B., Purple Haze, Diana Class 8, Ted, Heidrun Beer and on and on and Carmelo continues to give me some tips on what to do next and Sweet and Light has been helpful as always.

I am just basking in the warmth of being the moderator for some of the top minds on the planet. I always try and rise to the challenge and hold my own moving from the 'Minor Leagues" to the "Majorr leagues".

Oh yes, we finally returned to the orignial theme of the thread when I recently posted for the first time on the internet the first chapters on the very beginning of CCLA. When that premiered around Dec 21, we started getting 1000 views per day and the thread is in Power right now. I am going to post those addendums you gave me about the start up possibly tomorrow - I have not forgotten.

You seem to have the most inside dope on the really old days of the Sea Org. Another person recommended I contact Hanna Eltringham if I want more skinny. I was thinking on doing stories on how AOLA and ASHO started. Some of the ANZO people could work with me on doing histories of those orgs and the same thing for the European Orgs. The thing is, to undertake projects beyond AO and ASHO, I would need funding and would have to do it full time.

If you want to help me any way or have any suggestions on what I should do, I would really appreciate hearing from you. You could PM me and then I would give you all my contact information. IT REALLY SEEMS LIKE ITS TIME TO CHANGE THE NAME OF THE THREAD BUT I DON'T WANT TO LOSE THIS BRAND NAME WHICH I HAVE BUILT UP. DO YOU HAVE ANY THOUGHTS THERE? DART OR ANYONE ELSE.

Well, I hope that answers your question Dart.

Lovely!

In my humble estimation, it takes the third dynamic to run out its third dynamic case, as, per the above post, you are accomplishing here. In order to do this successfully, the integrity needs to exist enough to clearly view the case and see it as it is. Of course, reality may appear different from each viewpoint, which is why you need all points of view on the third dynamic group to run the stuff out.

This is why the C of Scn in its present unethical state [condition of existence] is obviously unable to as is anything. As a third dynamic group, it is very busy creating complexities, not ising its case, blaming it on everyone else, following a firm policy of disconnection [do you realize how far down on the awareness scale that is?] as a means to 'handle' uncomfortable situations, rather than seeing something as it really is and helping resolve conflicts. Instead, its products are conflict and lies, with the right hand unable to see what the left hand is doing nor taking any responsibility for what goes on beyond the public view.

Any comment is welcome.:coolwink:

Much as I try, I can't find the word engram in my post, although 3 folks seem to have found it said that way specifically. Anyone find it for me?

Well, Purple H, what a charmer you are showing yourself to be.

That above is one of the most charmingly polite corrections of the automatic think we humans oft display I've seen on this board!

Of course, I'm sure you know why some folks found "engram" as they read what you wrote

The phrase "third dynamic engram" is in Red and White and, for some, its being cited in 1982 vis a vis the Mission Holders' Meeting actually caused an engram.

Your precise, very precise, use of the phrase "third dynamic case" is not a term many, if any, would have seen or thought of. But it is a very precise term that very much refers to what is really there for groups.

It's nice to see elegant, precise writing as yours.

About that Mission Holder's meeting, I was there. A group session started to run. If allowed to run to a real EP I suppose there would have been no need for internet discussions today. There would be no need for the SO either. LOL

However, in typical authoritarian fashion, the SO shut the meeting and the communication down. By the fifth day, IIR, the "session" had turned into an SO PR Area Control event. It was 1982, before internet and e-mail. Communication moved to "back-channel." Telephones worked just fine.

We are now on a very long, drawn out Step 8 command of R3R: "Okay continue..."

:coolwink:

There's your group engram!!!

Boy, I'll say, Ted. I would say that experience caused a group engram for those present. I wasn't there, but I sure heard about it! Bless your heart, I'm glad YOU survived, too.

I would say that was a major turning point for Corporate Scientology, when a severely bent fork in the road was taken and it all has gone South since then. :duh:

Lakey, let's for the time being stay focused in our own back yard. :)

I for one would like to hear some more about the second Mission holders conference from those who were present, or other early Apollo stories. :)

Cats

I think his opening remarks about how he familiarizes himself with an area when he first moves in are the key. In the familiarization process, he doesn't just memorize things that are already existing as ordinary people do but he makes his own copy, so to speak, of that portion of the physical universe. He does it by first familiarization with what already exists there and then by pervading the space thoroughly and establishing a degree of ownership of all the MEST and Life Forms, living in that neighborhood.

A cat is not like a dog, it does its own thing and doesn't get all excited the way a dog does when unusual people and events come into its vicinity. The cat reacting to an intruder is a big tip off. If any person or thing who was not mocked up by him when he constructed his own copy of his neighborhood, appears in his neighborhood, he is immediately alerted through his senses or the senses or one of his mock ups (a surrogate or extension of him). The intruder was not part of his created neighborhood, his cat, in this case an extension of his persona, detected a foreign life form and did what was necessary to drive it out of the neighborhood.

Lakey

We have a cat that has been with us two lifetimes (with the help of an OT)

and he is a better judge of people than most people I've known.

He fully judges people as beings, not bodies. A VERY COOL ANIMAL.

The girl who brought me to Scientology had a cat that dominated the whole

neighborhood including all of the dogs. Once her young German Shephard had

his mouth around the cat's head and in one smooth continuous move the cat

twisted out of that and put a claw into the dog's nose. The dog never saw it

coming.

We used to feed the feral cats around here and had names for all of them.

One I named "Mack" a male who started out very skittish but eventually

became tame after about 5 years of feeding and he moved onto the back

porch selecting us and we moved him inside. Mack used to scare the big dog

next door so that I had to corral him sometimes ! I later found a 2-week old

kitten and nursed it to good health, and Mack totally adopted her. They slept

together each night. The kitten used to suckle on him for 1/2 straight and he

protected her and just kept her like a mother until she matured and then he

died at that time. But he had 5 good years inside with us. I always regret

that we didn't get him another body, as he hung with us for a while.

Sweetest animal being I ever knew. :bigcry:

There are some OT things in this post if you look for them !!

Lakey, no one has the story totally nailed. :)

Perhaps some day you will find yourself suddenly wrapped in total theta nothingness -- game over. If you are quick of perception and evaluation you will then correctly conclude, "Oh, looks like the story was totally nailed." You can then drift off into static slumber or start a new thread (game). :)

-snip-

Other sources for the 2nd Mission Holders meeting include Martin Samuels, Bent Corydon, Bill Franks, Larry Brennan, and perhaps Homer Shomer.

There were (although probably deleted by now) some comments by a few former Sea Org Execs on Rathbun's site, comments that recognized that the looting of the Missions occurred with Hubbard's approval.

In fact, Hubbard had been looting the properties and bank accounts of Mission Holders for years - but one at a time, and selectively, and quietly. It was only after Hubbard moved into Southern California, in the mid/late 1970s, that he began looting them two at a time, then - after the first Mission Holders' Meeting where one former Mission Holder, who was suing the 'Church', was invited to speak, Hubbard flipped out and decided it was time to "call in the chits" - and ordered Miscavige to do so.

In December 1979, a federal judge had ordered the release of documents from the 'Snow White' case, and these documents contained writings by Hubbard of which most Scientologists were unaware - and many still are unaware. The Mission Holders - at least some of them, although some were still in denial - were beginning to look at these documents (some of which were reported in the Press) and wonder, "Huh?" Hubbard, who didn't trust the Mission Holders anyway (They knew too much, had too much independence, and had too much money), had his "insatiable lust for power and money" (See 1986 Mayo interview), combine with a giant "missed withhold" on his secret financial, spying and dirty tricks activities of the 1960s and 1970s, and - well, it wasn't pleasant.

Miscavige earned major brownie points with Hubbard by a) Keeping Hubbard away from being legally accountable for his criminal abuses of others and general swindling b) Getting the money to Hubbard - "The Billion Dollar Caper" - mostly from the Missions.

Hubbard, who had told Scientologists that, "Your fees do not go to me," etc., and who was fearful of being identified with Scientology's management, was careful to hide the fact that he was giving the orders. Accounts of Hubbard seem to disappear after 1984.

Arguing about this is probably pointless. It's like arguing with an old G.O. person who was hoodwinked into believing that Hubbard was still in Clearwater (or some other location) in mid 1976, when - in fact - Hubbard had fled secretly to Washington DC. It's a waste of time, and not terribly important in the overall scheme of things.

Hubbard had elaborate shore stories, not only for "wogs," but for Scientologists, including some who thought they were in his "inner circle" (after all, he told his G.O. inner circle that his 2nd wife was a Russian spy named Sara Komkovadamanov [!]) Lying is a Scientology sacrament - really.

Anyway, at a certain point, Hubbard didn't care about the minor details. He wanted to be safe (in hiding), wanted the money (to be relayed to overseas bank accounts mostly), and wanted to finalize the legal trusts that would establish and maintain his various monument-building and LRH fan-club projects.
