WOW communication rocks!

Hi Sharon and welcome to the party.

As you know threads take on a life of their own and move
in mysterious ways. This thread has become a party celebrating life in all its diversity.

Few, if indeed any, who post here regularly have anything good to say about Hubbard the man, and in fact many have written very caustic comments re his character. However these same people use his ideas, or extensions of them.

Whoever invented the wheel may have been a complete prick, but everyone uses his idea in a multiplicity of ways.

Your statement I quoted above is prejudicial and a generalization.

For example we've had good times together and I've always been supportive of you. Then you no longer wished to be a friend and have
several times attacked me personally here. Presumably your quoted statement is the reason for this

If its helpful for you to use me as a punching bag then thats fine by me.

Your statement is one of hate and the person most adversely affected by this is yourself. I hope you can find some other frame of reference to live with, and you can still be an activist against COS.

For those who haven't read Sharone's story, she was put in a hold on the Apollo along with Janis Grady as punishment for chatting with some greek boys. She was around 11 years old at the time. She only joined the SO so
as to stay with her father and was never a scientologist. Her father left
the SO in circumstances not really known, probably declared, and so badly
affected by whatever happened that he has never been the same since,
and Sharone has only just recently got in touch again. She hadn't seen him since he left the Apollo on a mission, and Sharon after leaving the SO was brought up in care without iether parent.

Terril,
Hats off to you for an amazing handle of a difficult post. Must thank you profusely for enlightening us of her background, so we readers could put it all in context and gain a better understanding of where Sharon is coming from.

I'm only missing the time part of the info: when was she put in the hold with Janis? Why is Janis still sane?

Kudos again:biglove: bb

Why didn't Sharone just PM his anonymous correspondent? Why did she have to say that our thread "way off track" after admitting that she does not read it?

I got no understanding from watching the Newhart video, whatever message I was supposed to get sailed over my head.

To me, Sharone's actions make no sense whatsoever. Well, its no big deal, no one was actually hurt.

we are all our brother's keepers, laky.
I respect Sharon's right to post whatever she like and am deeply honored at her trust in fully communicating her feelings here on your very special thread.
It is up to us to decipher and help our fellow human being out, if at all possible. :coolwink:
It seems to me, that sometimes, just putting it out for others to see, is the only therapy needed.
An acknowledgment too is nice, but, really, it's just icing on the cake.

Yup, this is correct.

In this case with Sharon, one should not be adding any opinions nor any criticism of her post.

If one doesn't get any point being made or the reason behind the post . . . ask a question!

Don't challenge or criticize . . . that only incites to either retaliation of the loss of person originating.

Sharon is like many here . . . still healing. And that deserves and needs kindness and understanding.

In my own defense...

I guess that if our brilliant and super successful thread can serve as a clearing house for someone who got a raw deal in Scientology, as nearly all of us posting here have, then that is a valid purpose, among many others for the existence of the thread.

The thread has given hope to dozens of distraught people who had very little to live for and found new friends, incisive articles, help and hope here. Some people participated on the thread and by doing so regained their zeal for living. To others who were researching why people stayed in Scientology so long, doled out nearly all heir money and all their labor virtually for free, this thread, through the straight talk it dispenses, was able to codify and explain the phenomena for which they could not find a straight answer anywhere else.

Lakey

In my paragraph highlighted in red above, once I read Terril's clarification, I said that Sharone used the thread in a valid manner. I developed that theme some more in the following paragraph.

It seems to me that Candy and Roger criticized my initial responses to Sharone's post but just ignored my later conciliatory remarks as regards Sharone. This is called "cherry picking". Criticizing something negative in a person's post and ignoring a later retraction that person makes after the situation is clarified to him is sloppy journalism in my opinion. The thing is, I could care less. I call them as I see them. I thought Sharone was out of line initially by criticizing my thread and not identifying who it was she was complaining to and then when Terril Park cleared up who she was and her background I was happy to have her post here, happy in the knowledge that Sharone, like many others was able to find here on this thread a place where she could vent some disatisfaction and get off some charge and feel better. Roger said that if a post irks you, ask a question. That is exactly what I did in my second post. Sharone never did answer but Terril answered for her. Once I go Terril's answer, I was conciliatory to Sharone. I would do the whole cycle again exactly te same way if it comes up again.

Lakey

PS - Candy, could you please make an effort to spell Lakey correctly. The last two times you put Lackey and then Lacky. You recently objected to me not using spell check and when you use Lackey or some variant of it, it makes it seem that I am your servant. I know you do not consider me your lackey but just a little care in spelling Lakey correctly would sure be appreciated.

Lakey,

she is addressing someone (who is not named) but will understand that she is talking to them. she is using this thread as a bulletin board. She could have just started with "To Whom It May Concern:" but she didn't.

Watch this video, after you have seen it, everything will make sense.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwYw2i2icNg

Did you ever watch both Newhart series?

In the first Newhart, he was Dr. Bob Hartley, married to Suzanne Pleshette.
In the second Newhart, he was an inn keeper.

This portion of the second Newhart series was the last episode. it was populated with the strange people who you saw through the major portion of this video. Where he wakes up, he's Dr. Hartley in bed with Suzanne Pleshette. It is a super joke. The whole second series was just a strange dream.

For many, their journey through Scientology, was just that -- a strange dream.

sorry it was too obtuse.

I have always thought that series ending was the best series ending of any for all time.

Touche' Candy, instead of spelling Lakey correctly and abiding by my request , you did not use it in your post. Fair enough! I love you dearly as well and do anything I can to help you, but calling me a lackey goes just a tad beyond the true situation. I would consider being your lackey if a situation really demanded it but for the most part I remain, simply...

Lakey, my Dear,

There are 500 regular posters on ESMB . . . .

If I criticize an individual, or a post, I name and/or cite the individual and post . . . .

My comment did not name anyone . . . .

You and your behavior are not the only things going on in town, my love

Thanks Carmelo for clearing that up. For some reason, I hav never followed sitcoms much. I did get hooked on "Married With Children" and later "Seinfeld" and more recently "Curb Your Enthusiasm" That later one, an obvious extension of the Seinfeld show is the funniest thing I have ever watched with the possible exception of that old Phil Silvers sitcom long, long ago called "Sargeant Bilko" or was it just "Bilko"?

Curb Your Enthusiasm is a total riot, who is that friend of Larry David's, is he called Belzer or something like that? When his wife gets pissed at Larry, usually for a good reason, she lets Larry have it with a series of four letter words that makes a drunken sailor sound like a choir boy in church. That is the funniest thing in all of television when that woman attacks Larry David. I have literally fallen to the floor in side splitting laughter, nearly wetting my pants when she starts in on him. You almost have to be Jewish or at least be raised in New York City to really appreciate that humor!!!

trying to do a good job of writing the PC folder. No attention units left over for spell checking. :(

as Alan used to say, "Duh"

Believing (choose any of the following):

the government
the media
big corporations
the labels on cans
any member of the Co$
politicians
car salesmen
realtors (trademarked name, of which, I am one)
contractors (also of which I am one)
car mechanics
<fill in the blank>

is grounds for getting your pocket or bank account picked clean

We are in treacherous times.

Since a broad range of readers will see this, I shall endeavor to not make this tightly focused on one economic group. I know, for a fact that there are homeless people reading this thread. There are others, who are right on the edge that I worry about , others who have a lot of money, and there is the preponderance in between.

A couple of years ago I was having lunch with an old friend. She mentioned that she was going to be selling her gold. She had bought it in the 70s as a safety net / hedge. She thought that it was time to cash in. I talked her out of selling it, and for the last couple of years, we've been watching gold reach higher and higher $$$ values.

Perilous times are great times to buy real estate if you have your eyes open.

In times like this, my wife and I bought the house we live in for $150K with $12K down and the promise that we would pay the sellers some money whenever they needed money to go on a cruise. we were broke, and had lost everything. We creatively made an offer that was accepted. It has worked out. Our house in current dollars is worth over a million. Same house. i've improved it, but it isn't the Taj Mahal.

THE BUYING POWER OF THE DOLLAR HAS JUST FALLEN.

The dollar's buying power is going to continually sink. This is true for the Euro also.

It is not true for gold, silver, and some real estate.

My wife and I are currently looking for a fixer upper on a beach, where the owner wants out. We want to offer $25 K to buy a lease option, pay rent for a year, fix up the dump into a beautiful house, and then buy it with a conventional (low interest rate) mortgage.

About a decade ago we walked our son and daughter in law through the process of buying a foreclosure that was trashed. As a family, we worked and fixed the place up. Thy lived there, with pride of ownership from sweat equity, for five years. A couple of years ago, they sold it, and moved closer to us. They made a half million on the sale, but rolled it into another crappy house in a better neighborhood, thereby starting the cycle of < fixer upper, repair, renovation, added value > again. They've put a few dollars into the house, lots of work, and the market continues to change dollars into pennies. Their current house is worth more even in the bad real estate climate.

All of this requires observation, timing, wits, and some luck. None of it is done by reading statistics of GPI, Dow Jones Industrial Average, or trusting the economy or the government.

We are currently trying to pay off all bills.

Trusting that things will be OK or bad is nothing I want to bank on.

We have insurance and Social Security, but I would never count on either. the government will fuck you any time it needs to, as will insurance companies.

There is only two people I count on: me and my wife. our perceptions, our planning, our actions.

This is a time to be like the Mormons, ie. have water and food stored. have a victory garden, a stand alone power unit - solar would be great., don't be at the wims of employment, government assistance, bank loans, etc.

we live where an earthquake could devastate the food supply chain, the water supply, the gas, the electric. Counting on the system, is a bad idea.

Valerie Schomer (Homer's daughter) was put in the chain locker at age 6 for a week. She is still in the Sea Org and a nice mom and person to boot.

Each of us has made our beds based on our past, our own strengths and weaknesses, etc. No one is an absolute identical cookie cut from the same dough.

Lanky,

from wikipedia:
he Phil Silvers Show (originally titled You'll Never Get Rich) is a comedy television series which ran on CBS from 1955 to 1959 for a total of 143 episodes (including a 1959 special).[1] The series starred Phil Silvers as Master Sergeant Ernest G. Bilko of the United States Army, service number 15042699.

I find of interest to me the story of Staff Sergeant Giunta and his press interviews.

There was a NY Times Op Ed today regarding Staff Sergeant Giunta’s CMH ceremony at the White House. In the online “Comments” section a person going by the moniker of “Charles A. Tiffany” excoriated Mr. Giunta and US Armed Forces personnel as "mindless killers that turn kids into useless fodder willing to be ground into the sand."

Here, for those that have interest, is my response to "Mr. Tiffany":

I am the direct descendant of a man that lost his right leg, fighting for the founding of a nation in which only white male property owners would have the right to vote. I am also the direct descendant of a man that died, fighting for the preservation of nation that, at the time of his death, did not allow Native and African Americans to vote. And, I am the direct descendant of a man with a disfigured face, from wounds fighting for a nation that did not allow women to vote.

Mr. Tiffany, I suggest that you study the arc of history regarding just what has happened and what is happening that allows the both of us to openly speak our minds regarding the “News” of today. We know not what follows but one thing is fact; without SSG Giunta, his fallen brothers and the legions upon legions of brave souls before them tyranny, terror and peril would most probably rule our individual days.

These wonderful “kids” are grown from our “sand” by the sweat and blood of our ancestors dreams and hopes and your freedom. If you cannot honor the moment or the man then I suggest you reflect on my first paragraph.

Face:)

putting integrity into an area may mean that there are imperfect areas still to be addressed. Ronald reagan had a vision of where he was going. He was always willing to make incremental change in the direction of his ideals. He was a realist.

Candy is a superstar!

Yes, I agree that she is a superstar. What am I, chopped liver? Seriously, though she is a superstar, she is one of my best friends now. Now refers to about 5 or 6 weeks ago when our friendship just clicked into high gear.

I now provide a site to post on, parties and dancing and interesting new friends for her to meet and venues for her to attend and if she needs someone to listen, I am one of several who fill the bill and just listen to her talk and then acknowledge her. It is a wild trip for me, being one of Candy's best friends but that has come to be the case so I must be doing something right, no?

So as one of her best friends, I have the right to stand up and voice my opinion once in a while. I am not a total lackey. Its all done in jest, really. I don't think there is anything which see could say to me which would get me upset or pull in charge. She has scolded me a couple of times and I just think, "It's Candy, she always knows what she is talking about, I'd had better listen real good and hear what I have to do to improve."

And no matter who it is, my friendship does not come that cheap. I am selective about who I pal around with. Candy long ago passed all my litmus tests for friendship but as with anything in this universe that friendship has to continually be created. I am not going to give my friendship just because someone is a superstar, they also have to be a top quality person in my estimation.

I think this is a secret for happy living. Have enough confidence in yourself and who you are to require any potential friend to treat you with consideration and respect before you give them your full friendship. Then when you give them friendship, you give it flat out with all the beingness available to you. Don't hold back anything when it comes to befriending them! Don't worry about repayment, just give with your heart. The return flow will be there in abundance if you just give from the heart with all the beingness that is yours to give and don't focus on what they can do for you.
