I'd never heard of Gijon, Spain. I had to look at a map.

Wow....it is on the exact other side of Spain from where I lived....

Actually I am related to them long long ago. The tequila Cuervos and the other Cuervos parted ways. More recently....well I will leave that for another day.

I spent some time on a ranch, several hours south of Vera Cruz, on the Gulf Coast of Mexico.....back around 1985. It was owned by a retired Mexican General......

He grew tobacco and had his own brand of cigars that he manufactured.....

Had some interesting times in DF.....too

Edited: Mexicans don't call Mexico City, "Mexico City".....they call it DF. (Districo Federales)

Oh, I'd so love to grow my own tobacco! Too bad, all appropriate places in my flat are already occupied by the herbs I need for my cooking. :bigcry:

Hey MrNobody...earlier today...or perhaps yesterday....in a post, you alluded to the fact that you were an expat....living in a rather exotic local.

I notice from your ID here...that you would rather not have your location known....which I totally understand.

But of course...it has made me wonder....

Any chance of a hint?

Actually.....I think growing some type of "designer" tobacco...and marketing a line of unique cigarettes..( perhaps organic....? ) would probably make one a fortune....

Oh, I thought I'd be pretty easy to locate? I live in Lübbecke (NOT to be mistaken for Lübeck), a small town on the northern border of North-Rhine-Westfalia, which is a state in north-west Germany. :coolwink:

EDIT:
Not a very exotic place where I live, but well, I guess it's good enough for me. :)

Very cool. I like Europe so much.

Didn't Volkwagen name their camper van Westfalia...or something like that...? ( a long time ago...) Does it mean something? ( I checked Google translation...and it doesn't say...)

Growing the tobacco would be the smallest part of the job. I live near one of formerly Germany's biggest tobacco centers and worked in a few cigar factories as well. After the tobacco is harvested, it needs to be dried, fermented, cleaned, cut, mixed with the right amount of other tobacco sorts, aromatized and "perfumed", and I'm certain I forgot a few steps. During all this time, it needs to be kept at a very defined climate, otherwise it will rot.

Ever smoked rotten tobacco? Ewww! :biggrin:

Anyway, once you're finally ready to sell your cigarettes, the German government takes a HUGE pile of taxes from that. :grouch:

Some guy or company launched a new cigarette brand here in the States....oh...say back around 1990. It was called "American Spirit" cigarettes. It had sort of an American Indian motif and logo on the pack. They have become a HUGE brand...and have been sold nationwide...for quite some time now.

They were positioned as "Natural" cigarettes....with no additives.

Yes, Westfalia was a state in Germany and several manufacturers of cars and trailers have a Westfalia model in their product line. Nowadays, Westfalia has been joined with the northern Rhineland, so now the state's name is North-Rhine-Westfalia. One of 16 German states. See here:

NO additives? So how do they get the typical taste and smell into their cigarettes? Yaknow, a typical tobacco mixture for cigarettes has quite a few ingredients, which you would probably find unusual or even strange. Liquorice, Cocoa, and whatnot.
