Those car designs are fantastic. Thank you for posting that!

I was going to ask, were any babies made in that car? Drive in movies, what a great era that was!! It was fun as a kid, going with the family but as a teenager and a young adult, who could ask for more fun. For a male, if he asked a date to go to a drive in and she said yes, then you pretty much knew that you were going to have a good time. For a female, I would guess that the thought process was similar. If she accepted going to a drive in, both parties knew pretty much what was going to happen.

There was a major difference however in my era. When I was growing up (covered wagon days?), couples would seldom, if ever, go all the way. There was first base, second base and third base. Going for the home run was not done in the circles I moved in. Around 1964, that taboo began to break down, at least on the East and West Coasts. Probably in the flyover states it lasted much longer. BTW, that 1966 Chevelle Malibu was a fantastic car, the black vinyl top was a nice touch.

It is really amazing, the car in the picture looks modern and better looking than over 90% of the cars on the road today. They rode great and had lots of power. The main areas of progress since then are in safety, handling, fuel economy and of course of all the sophisticated electronics of today's cars.. The fun quotient of that '66 Malibu may be as migh or higher than that of modern day cars.

Growing up we learned one thing. The 'slags' who wore a lot of make-up, smoked and swore and looked as though they might be worth pursuing were generally less forthcoming than the rather more demure, quieter, middle-class girls who were much more likely to reward you with their favours, and worst (best) of all were convent girls who had been chaperoned by nuns and were practically all nymphomaniacs to a [strike]man[/strike] woman.

BTW, I prefer the LA's 'There She Goes', but that's probably because I heard that version first.

Oh, so reminds me of a date in, oh '69 or '70 & wasn't sure how it was going to go.

As we started to settle down she said " Look, we both want the same thing so I'm just going to take off all my clothes now so they don't get messed up. Why don't you do the same".
Whisk & she was naked. We dated all summer !

I came up believing sex is normal for both boys & girls - and those of us with healthy drives got together & made each other happy!

The girls always had the same sex drive we guys had. The certain way a guy for sure go nowhere is if he was a blabbermouth - the girls quickly passed around he was " bragging ". That guy was DONE in that circle.
Funny thing is, those few guys never figured out why the girls would barely even kiss them, year in & year out.
No reason to clue 'em in & leave for the rest of us.

Now, I also always firmly believe if a girl says no at any point then that ends the night there. It's over for that night.

Women are by far the best thing ever on this planet !

Different roads and driving conditions between the US and northern Germany, perhaps? Also, Opel would have been competing with domestic GM makes such as Buick, Chevrolet and Pontiac so could easily be seen as superfluous to that market.

The high unreliability was a factor.

And, this odd factor that to drive a VW bug was really in the in thing to do.

Driving any other small not American made car got one called a cheapskate or one couldn't afford a good car.

Bugs were great & all other small cars seemed to be as a penalty box.

Seems what happened.

I had a VW Jetta in the 2000s. It was very nice, a stick. Then they came out with this other weird sort of non-manual stick which really turned me off when I had the next model. They still make nice cars and I'd drive one if it had manual transmission. My current SAAB is old, 98, so I have no idea if manual transmissions are even being made or by who.

I am the moderator of the thread having written its first post. As moderator, I know of several people whom I respect who hold a view different from yours. Two such people who are my friends are Purple Haze and CO2. Purple can deliver CoS tech as well as other forms of tech, including social worker's tech. I have never had a session from CO2 but I know that he is capable of talking to people over the phone and somehow producing major changes for the better in them. Phil Spickler may likely think highly of some portions of tech and then there are two veteran posters here, Leon and Terril who tend to support tech going on in the field. As moderator, I am striving for a forum where differing views are allowed the right of presenting their case. I often disagree with one side at the expense of the other side but even so both sides have the right to be heard. If we don't do that, then we are no better than all [HIGHLIGHT]the hate mongers on so many of the bash type threads on ESMB![/HIGHLIGHT] I really want to uphold a forum which allows conflicting viewpoints to compete on an equal basis. The strength of one side's logical arguments over the other side must decide the issues otherwise why even bother to waste one's time developing a forum? >snip<

I am so sorry but I avoid boys that expect things as if I was a McDonald's menu. No offense to anyone. It has nothing to do with all those weird labels about morality or whatever. i just find it boring and I never go to McDonald's. I don't like those sorts of attitudes for myself and I am not attracted to pure physical sorts of things. It's a turn off so if it turned the other person off that I was turned off by their McDonalds view, why do I care, since I am probably not attracted to them, wouldn't of even ended up in the back seat, since we have different sort of attractions = zero attraction. And I am not discounting those things either. Just not my area. Not me.

As an old insane lady once said (a real one so this is documentary) "I don't have time to marry you right now." I won't explain what it means but basically, that is the gist.

The Board Moderator has said in no uncertain terms what the lay of the land here is regarding the post of Moderator.

It would be a big ego blow to not be able to quibble about the definition in such a way as to hold onto really being an actual Moderator and not have to find out that all posters are equal.

As kindly as I can say it, let the fellow have his delusion about who moderates around here.

I tend to suspect it is not "we" who are the ones being played.

It isn't rocket science to get a few like minded posters to get a thread"up" & seen - 3 or 4 is plenty.

But, it is like the "teck" they support in that it is hollow.

Like the million of page hits on this thread mean that many scholars & researchers ( it was claimed at one point - LOL ! ) were the ones showing interest in this thread.

Which model of Saab is that Maria? Saabs were part of GM for a while and the model range changed from 900 and 9000 to 9-3 and 9-5, and at about that time (1998).

They were sold off when GM downsized and basically disappeared for a while, although I believe they're back now with new owners. One thing I liked about Saabs was that their safety provision was always very high - the car's air vents even filtered out pollen.
