How I've spent my vacation(s)

I think Mark should have the nickname "honey"

S and L -- Savings and Loan?

how about Sandfly?

IM works standardly for Immortal

as for Mark, he can get an air mattress and float down to Newport.

I used to go sailing out of Long Beach when I was on the briefing course. We used a Hobie Cat. I still love Hobie Cats. (Catamaran)

We spent a long week end in Mendocino. I've rested from the vacation.

No whales. Impressive lighthouses.

Mendocino is similar to Nantucket. Both towns are beautiful old towns filled with old beautiful houses and buildings. Both towns were built on the richness of ecological destruction. Nantucket on the killing of whales. Mendocino on the killing of redwood trees.

The dichotomy reminds me of Hawaii, which was built on the killing and swindling and slavery of the native population.

Travel tends to broaden my ability to be in places where atrocities took place. These places all have, at one time or another, triggered my key ins of the facts of man's inhumanity to man or nature. I tend to feel the pain of the area until I can fully have it. This is a real drag, but it is the way I'm wired.

While I was wandering around Mendocino, my dog made friends with a bunch of dogs on the beach. I made friends with some teen agers smoking a doobie on the city sidewalk. Unlike our former President, Bill, I inhaled. It was like San Francisco in the 60s. It felt really good on so many levels.

The hotel we hung out at, MacCallum House had good eats. They made an Eggs Benedict with spinach, poached eggs, sourdough french bread, and Meyer lemon Hollandaise sauce. Oh, was it ever good. We went to the Clam Chowder Festival. There were ten different chowders, each distinctive and delicious. One was a vegan faux clam (made from mushrooms) that was particularly good. A couple of years ago, I got hooked on Frey Vineyards' all organic wines. At their tasting they had a wine that reminded me of the wine I had drunk as a child --- Wine made by a farmer, drank with the farmer and other friends under a water tower (sharing the cool shade on a hot day) is just one of those indelible memories I have from growing up in the country. Even as I was doing it, as a child, I felt like the experience was straight out of Steinbeck.

My family had hosted Steinbeck and R.L Stevenson at one time or another. My grandmother had made Stevenson sleep in the barn because he had consumption (TB). Steinbeck had walked miles to get to our house. He had been stinky smelly with sweat. That was what my aunt remembered. I guess we're not too big on world famous authors.

so much for my ramblings, la la la la

Great "Ramblings" Carmelo!!

I think Mark should have the nickname "honey"

S and L -- Savings and Loan?

I once called her by mistake, "Sweet and Low" (as in artifical sweetener)

how about Sandfly? (I love it, better than Sandly)

IM works standardly for Immortal (I like it, Immy just doesn't fit.) If we get upset with her, we just remove the "t" and call her IMMORAL. I doubt this will happen.
as for Mark, he can get an air mattress and float down to Newport.

Very good suggestion, I believe as long as he doesn't have to use his car, he will be happy!

Great ramblings! Carmelo, I have no idea who said, "but seriously folks" which you asked me in my last post. It sounds like something a great comedian would say, when he was making a pitch for his audience to donate to charity or to support our armed forces during a war. Speaking on those nicknames and improving on Sandfly's, I prefer Hoaxy to Helly, then perhaps Hoaxley would be even better.

Sounds like a lovely weekend, Carmelo.

I drove a friend through parts of the San Francisco peninsula then down south, driving along the coast. Wonderful time.

Mark can be Honey if he wants, it's kind of a cool word for "goldenrod." :coolwink:

The Networks, FBO, Flag Rep, LRH Comm

Someone started a thread called, "The Networks, FBO, Flag Rep, LRH Comm, etc. and I have a lot of info on that area form the 1970's and posted two articles telling what I know. In writing those two posts I had a crystalization of thought and a cognition of sorts of why the Green on White Hubbard Management Volumes do not lead to successful businesses.

LAKEY'S OPRINION ON WHY THE HUBBARD MANAGEMENT SYSTEM DOES NOT LEAD TO SUCCESSFUL ORGANIZATIONS. Before, explaining the key flaw in the system, I will illustrate that the system does not work with a simple example, staff payroll. Take a typical non Scientology business which deals in a technical product, perhaps the tech could be Western Medical Tech or perhaps Computer Software, just as long as there is some sort of technical expertise. Now take your top experts in the organization who apply this tech, say the heart surgeons in a hospital. The pay to the top technical expert in a non Scientology company is very high, say $250,000 per year for round numbers. The equivalent for a top technician in Scn, say a Class XII auditor or C/S is $50 a week or $2,600 a year which is about 1 % that of what a non Scientology business has to pay. It gets much worse since non Scientology businesses have to pay payroll taxes, plus provide health and other types of insurance and pay into the employee's retirement fund. The Org's do none of this. In the meantime, the Orgs charge at least as much as hospitals and much more than a computer software organization.

CONCLUSION: The Orgs pay perhaps 1/2 of one per cent of what a regular business would pay for their top tech people and they should be rolling in dough because of all the savings BUT THEY ARE NOT. Half the time, they can not even afford to give their employee the $50 for the week. Now, establishing that the Orgs are not making their own way with excess profits, but are instead being subsidized by their own employees plus the Government, what is wrong with the Hubbard Management technology which leads to this state of affairs?

The main flaw in the system, the WHY, if you will, is the incessant demand for each weeks stats to be higher than that of the previous week. Stats are useful and need to be collected and tabulated but when there is a mania or manic urge only for stats and they must be higher each succeeding week, then you are operating with a psychotic management system.

The fallacies and failures caused by the mania for ever higher weekly stats:
#1. NO LONG RANGE PLANNING!
#2. Frequent shifts of personnel, destabilizing or unmocking functioning units and reallocating their staff to units which need to get their stats up. There is a policy not to do this but it is not followed, even if it still exists.
#3. TOO MANY CHIEFS AND NOT ENOUGH INDIANS - This is the proliferation of too many Executives floating around in the Orgs, over ruling the programs of local management with conflicting orders from a network which does not report to Local Management but reports to some bureau at International management. Often conflicts will develop between two competing Networks, both trying to boss around the local staff at the same time.
#4. Treatment of the ones producing the stats as robots or pieces in a game to be moved around at will, rather than as the key producers and unique spiritual being which they are.

THE RESULTS OF THIS ARE READILY OBSERVABLE IN THE ORGS
Since there is no long range planning, NOTHING NEW IS EVER BROUGHT TO MARKET!! INSTEAD, EVERYTHING "NEW" IS JUST A REFORMATING OF WHAT HAS ALREADY EXISTED, MAYBE OFFERED IN A NEWER MORE AESTHETIC PACKAGING OR AT SOME SORT OF PACKAGE PRICING. MANAGEMENT HAS TO RESORT TO FORCING THE SAME SMALL BUT LOYAL CLIENTAL TO RECYCLLE THROUGH EACH UPDATED VERSION OF THE SAME OLD PRODUCT.

Other religions do not change their technology much over the centuries either, but then there is no charge for learning and practicing their teachings, other than perhaps a few bucks to purchase a Bble and a voluntary tithe of only 10%. The key thing that sets Scientology apart from other religions is that one is charged very large sums to obtain the "scriptures" of the Religion. As a result, R & D would have to be done to keep the scriptures fresh and new so as to justify the extremely high prices. Right now, the tech is all developed by Hubbard and whatever fees he was entitled to have long since been paid to him and all deveopmental costs have been amortized. In a case such as this, in a normal business, the prices would begin to drop due to no longer having to pay tithes to Ron for tech development. In a normal religion, the prices would stay at 10% donations to receive all church benefits. Scio can not survive if they only get 10% of a parishioners income. They are caught between a rock and a hardplace. They do not do any long range development and they were forbidden by Ron to bring out any new products (or technologies). They cleverly got around this for 20 years or so by either "discovering an SP had messed up the tech" or stating that old lost LRH tech had been "discovered". These two things served for them as a viable means to overcome the lack of Long Range Planning and New Products but now these two factors have been played out to their max. They are left standing there needing to charge higher and higher prices but they have nothing new to bring to market. This is all the result of inadequacies in the Hubbard Management System.

Just imagine old Henry Ford, in the 1910's just bringing out the same car, year after year, decade after decade, maybe once in a while offering a different color paint than the original black or perhaps offering an updated sound system over the original vacuum tube radio or a special price discount.

Well that is the way I see the Hubbard Green on White system. Because of the extremely high cost for the products they are selling, the public will not continue to buy repainted or repackaged versions of the tired old products forever. There comes a time when the buyers will revolt and purchase more modern products elsewhere at a better price. For C of S, that time is now.

Add This to Your "Whys"

Lakey,

You can add this to your whys for the crash of stats.

Apart from the abuses, and screw up of results that ought be attained there is one HUGE flaw in the operations of the enterprise, and it began with that first SO mission back in 1967-8.

The operating, public handling orgs are continuously being by-passed by "upper management" and being told what to do . . . often being ripped off what were correct and productive actions to fulfill some idiot's idea of what should be.

The tech is: if you continually by-pass an area or terminal you end up putting it in non-existence!

And this is what the "brilliance" of upper management interference with public service org operations is achieving . . . their demise into non-existence.

I am in synch on this point, falsely assigning Danger to an area which is not in Danger will bring about a Danger condition and then continually doing that, will take you one condition lower down to non existence.

And this is what the "brilliance" of upper management interference with public service org operations is achieving . . . their demise into non-existence.

That is a concise description of what I was trying to get at. I think the mania for stats being higher weekly and the consequent lack of long range planning sort of dovetail with upper management feeling they know best and having to interfere with public service Org operations.

On the thread where I posted called, "The Networks: FBO, LRH Comm and Flag Rep" Rog wrote a brilliant passionate post in reply to one of Joe van Staden's posts and it concerns a particular mid range executive in England in the 60's who was destabilized by a Sea Org mission coming in and unmocking his fine work, blaming him for a downturn which they caused and then taking credit for the subsequent upstats which were caused by him. To find who the midrange exec in London was and what Roger's part in all this was, it would be wise to go to that post which was posted yesterday, March 9th. It is a very worthwhile read. I hope Joe van Staden reads it.

There is also the basic flaw of money (GI) over people as a priority.

The writing was on the wall in 1976, when prices were raised ten percent a month.

Companies, organizations, groups tend to have leaders. You can tell so much about the leaders by looking at the staff.

We have a garbage company that has been serving our area for 70 years. When our kids were young, they would sit on our porch and watch the big truck go by and take the garbage. When they left our street, the kids would pull on the imaginary handle to indicate blow your horn. The drivers would blow the horn for them. Then the kids across the street were born. Same routine, sit on the porch, watch the garbage men. Blow the horn. Now our grandchildren do it. These same garbage men see me on other streets, they wave, smile, blow the horn. They know us. They like us. We like them.

You're not going to find thirty years of job satisfaction on any level, unless there is a person or team at the top who likes and cares about people -- not just profits. Customers and workers need to be loved and cared for, not just have their money or their time extracted for as few shekels as possible.

The Fearless Leader of Scientology in the 70s was evidently more interested in money than people. There was a line that was crossed. You could see it in every org and center, a change had taken place.

All I know is Rodney Dangerfield or Jackie Mason

"but, seriously folks"

Borsht Belt comedian, known world wide for his one liners

"Take my wife, please."

Rodney Dangerfield, Jackie Mason, Mort Sahl, Allen Sherman? That's about all I know on on that circuit. Any of those? I think Rodney made frequent comments about his wife, so it must be him.

Your point about the 10% a month increases is really spot on! I remember when that fiasco was going on, was it 1976, I thought it was a few years later? The Org's were trying to justify it by saying they had not made inflation or cost of living adjustments since 1950 but that was not true.

Also, the condition of the staff after 30 years of service - what or how could you describe it. Heber Jentzsch is about 75 years old and I believe he lives and sleeps under his desk in the "Hall of Shame" at Gold. I was buddies with a guy, Hank Billings, a former aerospace engineer who worked at Ryan aircraft in San Diego who was 21 years older than me. We were friends on the Apollo, I was 33 and he was 54 and then I would see him around whenever I went to Flag. I last went there in 1999 and ran into him on the street, he was 80 and had a humped back and walked stooped over. I read on the internet that he died alone in his room inside the Fort Harrison. He was found dead in the morning. A short service was held for him by some of his buddies. He had no family, no known children, no medical care or enhancement in all those many years on staff. He worked some sort of post right up to the last day.

Dear, how do you feel about Imp?

No doubt short for Imperator?

Having at one time labored together side by side coyly embracing the icy stench of the watery marshes, having shared the whine of camaraderie amidst the Claire Aires of the Rough Woods, having both endured the humiliation of public excoriation before our Petite Comrades as a result of the sadistic Follies of Our Patrician Overlords, and having thereby embraced the esprit de combat which marks us both as veteran legionaires of the 4th Cohort of the Colline Rouge Campaign, YOU have earned the right to a measure of excess & cheeky familiarity. Hi Lakey,

it needed a while as I had to get the author's permission for publication and do some web design, but now you can find the whole thing here - both John McMaster's original study and the handling developed independently by Per Schiøttz, Class IX:

Thanks so much for this info Heidrun. Carmelo had recently posted the Mc Master's article on another thread and I had read that a few days ago. Just know, I read Per Schiott's article.

In a way, I feel cheated by LRH. I ended up taking the PTS / SP Course, 4 different times, early 80's at ASHO, late 80's at OC Org, then 1994 at OC Org, and then right after finishing it, GAT came out in 1995 and I did it again GAT style. Through this period, I was still making the same mistakes, being too trusting and blabbing inside information too much. I was creating my own PTSness, handling it then creating it again, then handling again, ad nauseum.

AN LRH DILEMMA
This brings up a dilemma having to do with LRH, one which is difficult to reach a full resolution on. The PTS tech serves as an excellent example of the dilemma which is - IS THE PROPER RESPONSE TO BE GRATEFUL TO LRH FOR THE PORTION OF TRUE TECH WHICH HE GAVE YOU OR TO RESENT HIM STRONGLY FOR OMITTING OTHER PARTS OF TECH WHICH HE SHOULD HAVE INCLUDED IN SCN BUT CHOSE NOT TO?

There is certainly two ways to look at this. I got into Scientology in 1970 and immediately learned LRH's version of PTS /SP technology. I had some gains from knowing this but still, the area was far from handled. In 2010, I finally received the missing pieces of the puzzle. That is half a lifetime to fully get cleared up on a vital piece of tech which I could have attained in my first year or two. Now if I had never run into LRH, I never would have had the partial benefits I enjoyed for 40 years and never would have received the remaining benefits which I just now have received. Am I supposed to be happy and thank LRH for leading me to understanding or resent him for not making the full tech available to me 40 years earlier.

I assure you that if I would have had this full data back in 1970, my entire life would have gone much smoother and I would be in a better place now financially as a result. Does one look at it that way or is one grateful for what data he did received plus eventually receiving all the data. I hope some people will comment on this dilemma.

When it is all said and done, you play your game.

It is not to honor or blame LRH, it is how you or I played our cards. .. and prior to that.... How we chose the card game we played.

The game of auditing and training is not new. We were doing it prior to the physical universe.

LRH tapped into a rich vein.

James Marshall discovered gold at Sutter's mill in California and changed the lives of many.

Rich veins happen now and again. See the iron horse, telegraph, radio, and internet, as examples.

How you do your due diligence is perhaps something that you want to look at. There have been con men all through time. Learning who to trust and how far is an important skill. As Ronnie used to say, "Trust, but verify."

Part of playing any game is NOT KNOWING everything. The moment you know everything, it is no longer a game, and is certainly no fun.

Perhaps as part of this discussion, you might want to define due diligence for yourself. It is something I did. It isn't something you did.---- as regards Scientology.

I've also been screwed from blind trust of Scientologists to an extent of two
digit millions in easily earned dollars not made, when it was there for the taking.

I did conditions on LRH in session and decided to go with his good side, although it is sometimes hard to do.

You might consider that LRH was PTS his whole life.
He was also most certainly in some Agony from the constant war going on between his Good and Bad sides.
He tried to audit advanced levels probably of a number of types (some will likely never see the light of day) over the out rudiments of unflat lower levels.
When you look at his insanity in the later years, did he have ANY Bridge step flat on his case ???:duh::omg:
It was said at one event that his case folders filled four large file cabinets, as I recall.

Ultimately Carmelo is right about both of us.
A large bitter pill to swallow at our age.
We really didn't do our due diligence, and it would have been easy around 1983, as all of the needed info was out there. Ever hear the "Zegal" tapes ?
They are online, last I looked. (Skip the fourth one after the CO$ bought out his integrity.)

It sure bugs me that Carmelo is right so much !
