And, damn you for forcing me to find that post by actually going back to find it. But, I tend to agree with you, having re-read it.

And, that's probably one of my major problems with Scientology; the *I* obsession. And why Scientology is for *me* 'anti-spirituality' in that it obsesses on 'self' as god.

The simple way to do it is to click on the number (#whatever) in the blue bar, which creates a link to that specific post. Then you copy the url in the browser and paste it in to your post.

On sharing

Thanks Carmelo.

As I said in my reply to Ted, I appreciate your interest and encouragement.

Sharing our paths is part of our path.

I think that thee and me were reading many of the same things at the same moments in time.:coolwink:

This is from memory: The Reality Scale, found in the Book of Basics, shows how meter phenomena, tone, and reality relate. For example, anger (1.5) relates to confront, relates to the pc seeing in his mind solid terminals and comm lines. Tone 4.0+ relates to F/N, participation and/or experience.

I have always enjoyed using that scale. Knowing how meter phenomena relates to what is happening in the pc's mind, on a broad scale of course, helps in keeping the session moving along.

From my own observations of pc's in session, my own experiences as a pc, and the scale itself, I concluded years ago that a "debrief" on one's life experience during life and in the afterlife would be an ideal scene and, according to my own reality, is the likely scenario after life.

I also believe that beings get, for the most part, what they believe they will get, except for the 72 virgins thing. That's just ridiculous.

The thing about sharing paths... A person's opinion might be worth something, or not, depending on who and what the opinion is about. Same goes for a belief. Same goes for a point of view. But experience, that can be worth a lot to other beings who are limited by singularity of viewpoint.

"Tell me your experience. I know you've likely told the world about your opinions, reactions, assertions, likes and dislikes, and so on -- to no relief. Wonderful on that. Now what about that experience you have yet to tell? Tell me what you've been into and up to. I am all ears."

It would be impossible for a single unit being, static and without experience, to acquire all possible experience in all possible iterations. That makes sharing so valuable to the rest of us.

So yes, I think that sharing, not of opinion and such, but of experience, in life as well as after life is a most respected and desired exchange. Maybe its payment for the opportunity to live as a single unit being. How's that for speculation?

Need evidence? Just look at this thread: Lakey's stories, Carmelo's stories, TMT's stories, Facey's stories, these life experiences, these debriefs, are driving the thread forward into the future.

Shut up! Announcing your plans makes you less motivated to accomplish them.

2009-06-16

Shouldn't you announce your goals, so friends can support you?

Isn't it good networking to tell people about your upcoming projects?

Doesn't the “law of attraction” mean you should state your intention, and visualize the goal as already yours?

Nope.

Tests done since 1933 show that people who talk about their intentions are less likely to make them happen.

Announcing your plans to others satisfies your self-identity just enough that you're less motivated to do the hard work needed.

In 1933, W. Mahler found that if a person announced the solution to a problem, and was acknowledged by others, it was now in the brain as a “social reality,” even if the solution hadn't actually been achieved.

NYU psychology professor Peter Gollwitzer has been studying this since his 1982 book “Symbolic Self-Completion” - and recently published results of new tests in a research article, “When Intentions Go Public: Does Social Reality Widen the Intention-Behavior Gap?”

Four different tests of 63 people found that those who kept their intentions private were more likely to achieve them than those who made them public and were acknowledged by others.

Once you've told people of your intentions, it gives you a “premature sense of completeness.”

You have “identity symbols” in your brain that make your self-image. Since both actions and talk create symbols in your brain, talking satisfies the brain enough that it “neglects the pursuit of further symbols.”

A related test found that success on one sub-goal (eating healthy meals) reduced efforts on other important sub-goals (going to the gym) for the same reason.

It may seem unnatural to keep your intentions and plans private, but try it. If you do tell a friend, make sure not to say it as a satisfaction (“I've joined a gym and bought running shoes. I'm going to do it!”), but as dissatisfaction (“I want to lose 20 pounds, so kick my ass if I don't, OK?”)

.

I don't know anything about brains, but other than that, I completely agree with the thesis of this posting.

Ronald Reagan kept the Star Wars talk under his hat until showtime. It seemed to work for him too.

I keep my projects quiet until they are operating.

Tony Blair: Diana was a manipulator like me

Published: 11:05PM BST 31 Aug 2010 Daily Telegraph

When Diana, the 'People's Princess' died, Tony Blair felt a duty to 'protect the monarchy from itself'.

Tony Blair's 'People's Princess' speech had been hastily written on the back of an envelope

Blair felt that the royal family?s lack of response to the Princess?s death was dangerous for them in the face of a massive outpouring of public grief

Diana, Princess of Wales was down to earth, charming and intelligent, but also stubborn and prone to be over-emotional, says Mr Blair.

He recalls meeting the Princess at Chequers in July 1997, the month before she died, saying he felt an uneasiness about her relationship with Dodi Fayed but could not put his finger on why. He says she did not appreciate him broaching the subject with her.

“We were both, in our own way, manipulators” — good at grasping the feelings of others and instinctively playing on them.

Giving his first account of what happened on the night she died, Mr Blair says he was woken at 2am on Aug 31, 1997 by a police officer at the end of his bed, who told him that Diana had been badly injured.

He knew from the beginning that her chances of survival were poor, and was told of her death at 4am. Mr Blair says that, without wishing to sound callous, he wanted to “manage” the situation and shape the public grief that would follow.

It was difficult because there were no conventions for the death of a person such as the Princess of Wales. He prepared his now famous “People’s Princess” speech on the back of an envelope with the help of Alastair Campbell

He felt that the royal family’s lack of response to the Princess’s death was dangerous for them in the face of a massive outpouring of public grief and felt a duty to protect the monarchy from itself.

He says he did his best, even though some members of the Establishment did not like who he was and what he represented. Mr Blair felt that he could not be direct with the Queen about the gravity of the situation so he spoke to the Prince of Wales, who agreed with him and said he would tell the Queen that Mr Blair thought that she should make a public statement. She agreed.

After the funeral, Mr Blair spent the weekend at Balmoral, where he felt a little uncomfortable, and could not have got through it with out the stiff drink that was served up before dinner.

He spent a lot of time alone with the Queen and says it was hard for her to accept the public perception that he was telling her what to do. He did not know the Queen well then and they were both ill at ease with one another. “I spoke, with passion, of the need to accept life’s lessons. I worried she found me presumptuous — she was a little haughty.”

But at the end of the weekend the Queen accepted that she had learned some lessons.

A year later he spent a weekend at Balmoral with Cherie, who wanted to bring the children, but he told her this was out of the question. They had a barbecue where the Royal family served the food and did the dishes. “You think I’m joking? You’re sitting in front of your empty plate and suddenly, the Queen clears it away for you.” Mr Blair says he spoke to Prince William who was still angry about his mother’s death. He believes he felt burdened by the “prison of hereditary tradition”.

Flirting

10 fascinating flirting facts
By Laura Schaefer
Share:

So you’ve mastered the art of eye contact and can beckon a romantic prospect with just a few coy glances… but do you really know all there is to know about the fine art of flirting? Just to make sure you’re up to speed, we culled some very surprising information that you can use to your advantage. Read on for some juicy tidbits that may up your meet-cute quotient in no time.

1. Flirting is good for you. Studies show that people who flirt have higher white blood-cell counts, which boost both immunity and health.

2. Think batting your eyelashes is enough? Wrong! All told, scientists say there are 52 “flirting signals” used by humans. Of these, the hair-flip technique is the most common.

3. In some places, flirting is illegal. In Little Rock, AR, an antiquated law is still on the books warning that engaging in playful banter may result in a 30-day jail term. In New York City, another outdated law mandates that men may be fined $25 for gazing lasciviously at a female; a second conviction stipulates the offender wear a pair of blinders whenever he goes out for a walk.

4. Why wait for Friday? Lots of people get their flirt on during their morning commute. A full 62 percent of drivers have flirted with someone in a different vehicle while on the go, and 31 percent of those flirtations, it turns out, resulted in a date.

6. In the Victorian era, fans were the ultimate playful props that could communicate all sorts of messages. A fan placed near the heart meant “You have won my love.” A half-opened fan pressed to the lips was an invitation, saying, “You may kiss me.” Hiding the eyes behind an open fan meant “I love you,” while opening and closing the fan several times was a chastisement, implying, “You are cruel.” Given how much a fan could come in handy, it’s a shame they ever invented air conditioning.

7. These days, cell phones do the flirting for you. In one survey, half of all mobile phone users have texted flirty messages to keep things interesting while separated from their amour.

8. Watch out; you can overdo it. According to the Social Issues Research Centre, the most common mistake people make when flirting is maintaining too much eye contact.

9. Sometimes, flirty gestures aren’t what they seem to be. Research has shown that men tend to routinely mistake friendly behavior for flirting.

10. Flirting is universal. A woman living in New York City and one in rural Cambodia may not have much in common, but when it comes to attracting a little attention, they both employ the very same move: smiling, arching their eyebrows, then averting their gaze and giggling. Animals flirt, too: birds, reptiles, and even fish have their own way of making romantic advances. The moral of the story: If the simple sea bass can act cute in order to further a romantic agenda, you can, too — so give it a go!

I have also posted this on the “LRH Thumbnail Sketch” thread although it appears to going dead. I’m doing that as I set out on this task due to dialogue there that stimulated me to tell some of this story and provide “context” as to “What I bought into and Why” re: Scn.

“Know this: that whatever situation you find yourself in, it is what is necessary for your development.” Edgar Cayce

“Truly, no thing in this world has kept my thoughts thus busy, as this my very own self, this mystery of me being alive, of me being one and being separated and isolated from all others, of me being Siddhartha! And there is no thing in this world I know less about than about me, about Siddhartha!” Hermann Hesse, “Siddhartha”

The vertigo went on for weeks and weeks, the ear ringing for months and months, the headaches for nearly a year. For months I had trouble concentrating, felt “detached” and disinterested in my life and life in general. It was two weeks before I was allowed to return to school and nearly 6 weeks before the Doctors said I could return to work. In early December the Doctors told me that, as far as they were concerned, my football "ticket" had been punched and was no longer valid...it was over. They thought although my symptoms were improving and would eventually subside, that the risk of permanent damage was high if I had another concussion, due to the fact that this was my 3rd concussion since I was 5 year old and this one was bad, real bad.

During this time, for reasons that are still inexplicable to me, I was taken effortlessly to intense interest in the world of Spiritualism and “Other Realities”. I began reading Edgar Cayce, Ernest Holmes, Buddhism, etc from what small selection there was in my “Tabernacle”, the local library. When I returned to school things were different—I was different. I was not interested in my classes, social scene or much of anything. In that first semester of my Senior year I went from my customary A’s and B’s to one “A” and the rest B’s and C’s. Outwardly, I "kept my chin up”; inwardly I was drifting, detached.

My Mother’s life was consumed with her budding “Church” and her reaction to my injury was that it “served my right”; that God was punishing my for my having “spurned” Jesus; that she hoped that I had “learned my lesson”.

My Father and Stepmother wanted me to spend part of the Christmas Break with them and I agreed to go there for a week. They (she) had a large, beautiful home in the hills overlooking the valley and town below. To me, it was a mansion (probably at least 6,000 sq ft), swimming pool, color TV’s, Stereo, expensive furniture, 4 car garage with two Cadillac’s and my Father’s new Bronco, the works. There was a cottage on the property (larger than the house I had grown up in, until my Mother added on) where an older couple lived that were the caretakers of the estate (maid, cook, gardener, maintenance, etc.) and they were very nice folks that I actually spent nearly as much with as my Father and Stepmother during that week.

My Stepmother had one child, a married daughter that was in Grad School at an Ivy League University. She also had 2 brothers that were married with families and lived in a small city about 100 miles away. Everyone was going to be there for Christmas so that I could meet my new “family”. My Sister had opted to spend Christmas with her boyfriend and our Mother and would spend the second week of Break with them. So, I was on my own with our new Stepsister, Aunts, Uncles and 5 step cousins, the oldest of which was 5 years younger than I.

I had never seen a house so resplendent for Christmas. Everything was beyond beyond. There were nearly more gifts under the tree for me than I had received at all my previous Christmases. I had been in a few fine homes of friends but this place was wealth and extravagance on display and I felt out of place and uncomfortable and, for some reason, embarrassed. Every meal was of the finest foods and preparation, served to a huge formal table with china, silver, linen and crystal. At every meal, as my Father sat at the head of the table, I thought how out of place he was…my Stepmother was the one that should be sitting there. Everywhere in masse, just for the taking whenever one pleased, were the things I had been raised without—chips, pastries, soft drinks, candies and snack goodies of all kinds and sorts. My bedroom was huge with a door opening onto the veranda, a color TV, fancy AM/FM radio, big closet and its’ own full bathroom. It took me days to get use to the softened water and learn how not to use so much soap that it took forever to rinse off. It all made me feel like Mark Twains’ character Tom Canty (the pauper in, “The Prince and the Pauper); this was not where I belonged.

Over that week I gradually sensed a “theme” developing that was to become fully manifest on my last day there. My Father had spent much of his time during the days leading up to Christmas busy with the business of setting up his new operation that my Stepmother’s money was bankrolling for him. I spent time with my Stepmother, helping the caretaker and, once my new “Uncles” arrived, going on some outings with them. They were nice fellows and sportsmen so we had something in common, however, they were also “Born Again’s” and true to all that ilk, must “Witness” at every opportunity and, if there is no apparent opportunity, they must invent one. The conversations also were increasingly coming around to, “How much your Dad loves you,” and “your Dad really wants you to come and live with him,” and how my Mother was responsible for the divorce and how much she had mistreated my Father and was mistreating me. During the time I spent with my Stepmother it was the same litany and it became obvious to me I was being “worked” and “tooled” in a team effort. I decided to remain demure, let all this pass and return to my “world” when the week was over. But, alas, old habits are hard to break and on my last day there my Father pushed on me until I pushed back.

After lunch my Father and Stepmother “laid their cards on the table”. They thought I was a very bright young man with tremendous potential but I had been “twisted and duped” by my mother; that they would pay for all of my college and provide a wonderful home for me and a ”true” Christian family to be part of ; that all I had to do to get these “goodies” was to agree to cooperate with my Father’s attorney to go to court and amend the “Final Decree” for my Father to have custody of me and remove the “Child Support Order”; move in with them and go to the small State University near where they lived for two years and then, if I wanted to, go to a “Big Name” school after that; that they’d bankroll everything, including a new car. I was so unnerved by the callousness of their “offer” that my mind shut down, the pit of my stomach churned and all I could say was, “I’ll think about it…I need to get going.”

As I packed my car with all the expensive gifts—boots, watch, sport coat, on and on—my mind came back on-line and I thought about my two older Brothers and Sister. My oldest Brother was married, had 2 children, was working 2 jobs and going part-time to finish college. My other Brother was married, had 1 child, was working full time and going part time to Grad school. My Sister was living at home with my Mother, working part time and going to college. All of them were bright, all of them were good, decent, hardworking, determined people with great potential. The more I thought about them, the pissed and more pissed I got. When I went in to say goodbye, my Father and Stepmother were “stewing”, still “on point”. Obviously my response had been unacceptable.

My Father started in sternly and reproaching, as was his way, that I was not “thinking straight”, that my mind had been “twisted” by my Mother and that they knew what was best for me. I responded that maybe so, maybe I wasn’t “thinking straight” but that until my Brothers and Sister were offered assistance—with no strings attached—I wouldn’t consider discussing any of this further. He Laughed at me and chided that that was none of my business and I was too young and confused to understand what was going on.

I thanked them for the wonderful hospitality and gifts, told my Father I loved him, went to hug him and he flinched, arms frozen to his side. I walked out of that house and it would be 12 years—at the funeral for my oldest Brother's son—before I spoke to or saw my Father again.

One year later, almost to the day, I would take my first step on “The Bridge to Total Freedom”.

Face:)

PS: My Brothers and Sister are as fine of folks as have ever drawn breath and have lead exemplary lives of accomplishment, humanity and humility with earned and deserved respect. I am so proud of them, so honored to be their “Baby Brother”. We all share a bond that is singular, unique, deep and eternal.

Thanks for this story Face. It's a beautiful example of keeping your own integrity in the face of those who would try to manipulate and buy you off. This is something to be very proud of.

The Dalai Lama Says...

Dalai Lama: "When concern for others' feelings and welfare is missing, our activities tend to become spoiled. Through lack of basic human feeling, religion, politics, economics, and so on can be rendered dirty. Instead of serving humanity, they become agents of its destruction. Therefore, in addition to developing a sense of universal responsibility, we need actually to be responsible people."

Well now, factor that statement into management by stats, weekly conditions and O/W write-ups. As a collective, the CoS isn't interested in the welfare of its people, its public, it is interested only in its own survival and self-importance. The public is nothing but fuel for the machine.

What a delicious piece of brilliance!

I particularly like the truth stated in the part highlighted in red above of the value of experience and observation versus opinion, thoughts and such.

Here is an Interesting Observation

Here is an interesting observation passed to me by Virginia earlier in the week.
At each stage of learning we must give up something, even if it is a way of life that we have always known.

An Australian Aboriginal

It caused me to ponder a little when I first read it, and to see its applicability.

Well crap...now you tell me this...whatta let down. :bigcry:

Superb post, Ted...Absolutely Superb!:thumbsup::yes::yes::thumbsup:

Yep...that's exactly what I was talkin’ about. Too many folks have their “story”…their “routine” they try and run on others and themselves. What I’ve always been interested in, what I have learned from and has helped me so much, is the narrative of another’s journey on their path…the vignettes of their walk…the stories that color the canvass of their frame of reference.:happydance::clap:

That's what I love about all y'all on this thread...the talented brushes, the innate sense for color and tone, the lives well lead and worth knowing about, the collaborative conscious of conscientious consciousness.:D

A response to Ted's and Roger's posts.

Ted's post is very fine, shedding light on what debriefing is all about. I appreciated Ted's fine insights on that matter which seems to resonate with everyone who reads it. I knew that I was getting some sort of case gain and picking up new awarenesses from both the debrief and then reading all the replies that came in but my knowledge was totally empirical. It is good to know more about why it works!

Roger's last post was also interesting in that everytime one learns something new, they give up something.

In my life at this instant I have never been more blown out and exterior to my body. My mind has no background noise going on its just clear as a bell.

Meanwhile, the things which I held most dear are all doing poorly. My business is dying out, my income is low, I am in the final stages of a divorce and my Kids disapprove of me spending so much time on ESMB and are not talking to me though they tell my ex wife that they still love me. Just last Monday I got shot down by a prospective 2D I was pursuing. It wasn't a total shut down, because the person insists I am her best friend and closest soul mate and that she loves me greatly but also insists that the chemistry is not there for her to consider me as a 2D. I never had a Sister so now I've got one.

With all these negatives going on in the areas of life that I formerly considered most important to happiness, I am in continuous exhillaration. The ex wife just had a big argument with her new boyfriend on Wednesday, I counseled with her and helped put things back together, using some of TMT's data. My new "Sister" rejected me as a 2D, so I am trying to pair her up with someone who has more "chemistry" with her. The Kids - They are adults now and have their lives to lead and I have mine. I am so busy meeting new people and going to events and social gatherings and hanging out with some of the finest beings in the world that I don't worry about my kids. We still love each other and I know that if I really need them, they will be there for me. The money, "It will be there when I need it" just like the kids will.

My family thinks I am nuts!!! They do not understand why I am so upbeat with my life seeming to be crashing down on me. I am wandering around always singing or whistling some tune and usually exhillarated. They see this as Alzheimer's disease setting in and "they think I have lost my marbles." They are off base 180 degrees. I am finally doing what I want to do. I think Leon's signature line states this pretty well. Finding what you really want to do and doing it is the way to go, the money, the romance, sharing fun activities with the Kids will be there again but right now I am just having so much fun doing what I really want to do and enjoy doing that I am not missing having those other things happening right now.

Here is an interesting observation passed to me by Virginia earlier in the week.

It caused me to ponder a little when I first read it, and to see its applicability.

Good stuff, Rog.

I've never learned much from "winning" but I’ve learned a whole bunch from "losing".
