Ted,

I know what you've written intuitively, but I could no more put it into words than fly to the moon.

If you're going to explain this stuff, so that even I can understand it, when are you going to write the book on basic auditing skills for the general public?

Have thought about it on more than one occasion.

My "safepoint" is that I know auditing works; it is a worthwhile activity. I am still orienting to basic truths I twigged on 35+ years ago. In other words, some processes are still broadening the F/N. The other aspect of my "safepoint" is that I have had enough processing to help me tremendously but not so much that I ever got on a processing treadmill, and not so much that my most fundamental "wins and gains" got pushed aside in favor the next 'new thing."

When am I going to write that book? I dunno. Don't hold your breath.

I think hubbard wrote it in a few issues, including the Basic Auditing Series, Dn 55, the Auditor's Code, and some comments here and there that I recognize as fundamental only after much training and experience of my own.

Introductory Note

Robert Louis Stevenson

ROBERT LOUIS BALFOUR STEVENSON (1850–94), novelist, essayist, and poet, was descended from a famous family of lighthouse builders. He was born at Edinburgh, Scotland, and was intended for the ancestral profession of engineer. Abandoning this, he tried law with no better success, and finally devoted himself to his destined vocation of letters.

Stevenson began his career with the writing of essays, then issued two charming volumes of humorous and contemplative travel, “An Inland Voyage” and “Travels with a Donkey in the Cevennes”; then collected in his “New Arabian Nights” a number of fanciful short stories he had been publishing in a magazine.

In 1883 he first caught the attention of the larger public with “Treasure Island,” one of the best, and probably the best written, boys’ story in the language.

His most sensational success was “the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde”; but a much higher literary quality appears in such novels as “The Master of Ballantrae,” “Kidnapped,” and “Catriona,” in which he to some extent follows the tradition of Scott, with far greater finish of style, but without Scott’s fine spontaneity and unconsciousness. He published also three small volumes of verse, some of it of great charm and delicacy.

Stevenson was essentially an artist in words. The modern desire for subtlety of cadence and for the rendering of fine shades of expression is seen in a high degree in all he wrote, and his work has the merits and defects that accompany this extreme preoccupation with style. But he had also great virtues of matter. He was a superb story-teller, an acute and sensitive critic, a genial and whole-hearted lover of life.

In the essay on “Truth of Intercourse” will be found an example of his gracious and tactful moralizing; in “Samuel Pepys,” a penetrating interpretation of one of the most amazing pieces of self-revelation in the annals of literature.

I've posted about this before but I think many on this thread may not have read it.

I consider OT 3 to be working because of the ideas in PAB 12.

A few quotes:=

" The basic cycle of life itself in this universe is the cycle of action of an explosion."

" The explosion is apparently a very definite basis in all engrams and,
for our purposes here, can be considered to be basic-basic."

" There is no reason why the cycle of the explosion cannot be self audited....."

" What exactly is the cycle of the explosion? One gets the preclear to get nothingness, then a growing expansive whiteness, then turn the whiteness black, have the black dwindle and get nothingness again. You will readily see
the similarity of this to Black and White processing and, indeed this is the furthest extension of Black and White processing but is many times more effective and usefull. "

Note this was recomended to be done between each of the Six
Steps to Self Auditing.

You will see here that the cycle of an explosion is almost exactly a
description of incident 1, and incident 2 also includes explosions.

Now why this material is not done SSSA style is perhaps because
per Hubbard many BTs blow on the bridge that was later developed,
and of course that bridge was an undercut to his initial ideas of
making an OT quickly. Many may have needed to do the bridge before
handling BTs.

Why couldn't OT 3 have been doing the six steps of SSSA instead
of the xenu story? I don't know, and if anyone has any ideas why
SSSA was dropped please say.

I assumed it didn't work 100%, always Hubbards goal.

Possibly just running the bare concept of an explosion wasn't
something everyone could do or subjectively understand? I
never really got " Scientology 8-80 " for example.

On OT 3 one is in theory addressing all possible engrams.
This could be why a few people get problems when exposed to it
prematurely?

Anyway, on OT3 one is running explosions, and perhaps the linear
xenu story was put there as some found it easier that way?

What one is in theory doing is assisting the single [ non-composite]
being to go clear. This is surely a good thing wether they hang around
one or not.

There is another aspect to this, per theta mest theory, theta disenturbulates entheta. Thus one who has freed up sufficient theta
or has a high endowment or some combination, or whatever, may
feel no need to indulge in further handling of BT case. They went
clear by association.

I think this area needs research with Old Timers who were there!

Having surveyed maybe 30 OT 3 comps in the FZ, the majority
don't take the xenu story literally. Including me. and some like myself
had read OT 3 materials before doing it. However, doing what it said on
the can one is running explosions.... :)

We have Dartsmohens comments on where LRH got OT3 story from.

Well...in scientific circles, one dosn't rely on one study.

Thus I suggest that donations are forwarded to me to take a holiday
in Corfu, and observe the local church festival activities. :)

I am no expert on this area but isn't the first Council of Nicaea in AD 325 generally agreed on as the point at which the "political deal" occurred?
Lakey

correct

might I add, we have a shit load of very smart, diversified, and highly literate contributors to this thread.

Actually that is not correct.

The deal was made during the war between Constantine & Maxentius, circa 312. Constantine was seeking general support throughout the empire for assuming sole imperium. The early christian church offered him their political support in exchange for legal recognition & support of christianity throughout the empire. This was later cast by the church in the light of a "mystic vision" on the part of Constantine for purposes of spin & justification.

Constantine, an accomplished and very ambitious general, was also notorious as a manipulator & opportunist, skills at which he excelled. He was principally concerned with social stability in the empire, hence his desire to unify religous observances, both pagan as well as christian, as a means of minimizing areas of dissent.

He defeated Maxentius in 314 and subsequently legitimized christianity as a religion (Edict of Milan, circa 314).

His struggles for sole control of the empire went on for a decade. He finally achieved sole power as the Roman emperor in 324.

The Council at Nicaea occurred the following year, 325, after Constantine's accession to sole power. It constituted a restructuring of the church in order to take maximum advantage of their newly expanded political influence. Christianity now became the dominant officially recognized religion in the empire, although pagans were still officially tolerated by the government. The christian church became increasingly involved in the actual administration of government and used its influence to suppress others. Constantine supported this as he wanted to concentrate state power and eliminate potential sources of internal dissension.

Constantine died in 337. Christianity's OFFICIAL adoption as the sole legitimate state religion actually dates from after his reign.

His son and successor, Constans, subsequently outlawed the practice of pagan religions in 341, effectively making christianity the only legitimate religion in the state.

Julian, aka The Philosopher, aka The Apostate, Emperor of Rome, attempted to reverse the expansion of the christian church's state power by once more legitimizing non-christian religions in 361 and once more extending the practice of religious toleration. His reign was brief. He died suddenly and his attempted reforms were lost.

However, given all of the above, OFFICIALLY christianity became the sole state religion of the Roman Empire in the year 380. The fat lady sang in the form of a decree entitled De Fide Catolica by Emperor Theodosius I. By then the christian church had been dominating the administration of government for about 40 years. Theodosius not only specifically outlawed all forms of non-christian religion, he also outlawed all unorthodox or heretical christian practices.

Summary:

A. Constantine did his deal with the christian church circa 312.

B. First Council of Nicaea held in 325 to consolidate official christian doctrine as a part of Constantine's policy for enhancing political stability within the empire.

C. Christianity effectively made the state religion in 341 by Constantine's successors.

D. Christianity officially the state religion 380 by Theodosius I.

How about some of you folks who had ENORMOUS GAINS on OT 3 coming forward to tell your stories.

Leon, do you want to go first?

I don't mind. Let me say first off that Lakey's report on our conversation is a very fair and accurate reportage. So thank you Lakey.

I have never claimed that I had "ENORMOUS GAINS on OT 3", in fact my first encounter with it was the biggest disappointment of my entire experience of Scientology. All of the hopes and expectations I had of OT-3 being the big fantastic level that was going to open up everything to me CRASHED when I saw all this TOTAL CRAP about little buggers that are supposed to be all over me.

I preetended to go along with it to see if maybe it would resolve in session. It didn't. I would go out between sessions and stew with hatred and go and bash a tennis ball against a wall just to be doing something worthwhile. It was hateful. My disppointment was utter. All this time in Scio aiming for the OT levels and here I get presented with this LOAD OF SHIT and get told this is it. FUCK. My whole prospect of continuing in Scio was at a completre and dismall END. T sit there and mock up some bullshit idea that there was someone there and then do this crazy batshit garbage about dumping thetans on volcanoes to get rid of what I just mocked up - I mean please, give me a break. But the unbridled, fuming hatred that accompanied this - even I could see this as just a trifle odd.

Eventually, after about a week of this, I got a review session. We looked for an SP BT that was blocking my progress.

Now when I was young and full of the joys of boyhood, innocent as a strawberry and wild with enthusiasm of the freedoms of a South African childhood, climbing trees, shooting pigeons and rabbits and hunting frogs, tormenting weaker boys, scaring girls with chameleons and generally being a happy carefree little shit, I had a particular streak of competency that was the envy of many other boys. I could shoot better than any of them with a catapult. A "catty" as we called it. I could spot a frog at a distance, aim at it, pukll the rubber back and let fly and WHAP I could hit that bugger in mid-air as he tried to jump away. I was the CHAMP.

Eventually this life of joyfully committing overts faded when I got into high school. Life became oppressive and dark. I started getting bullied myself.

And now, here on OT-3 I am looking for an SP BT. What did I find but a great big heavily pissed-off frog sitting in my throat. (Have you ever had a frog in your throat?) All of the spite and venom and hate that he could muster was directed at me for what I did to his lovely existence next to the peaceful stream that ran past our house. No ways was he going to budge. No ways was I going to come along with this OT bullshit and move him off. He fought and dodged like a mad thing. Eventually after acknowledging my overts against him and his fellow frogs and gettiing him over his collossal ARC Break etc etc etc we were able to move him off and he went free.

We found a few more "blockers" (as I called them then) and then the level started to run better. My hatred (my hatred??) was gone and I could just get on and audit like I was able to. Eventually I felt complete on it and went home. Did some more sessions when I felt the need.

So in the end what did I get out of it. Well, first up is Stability. My case wobbles that I'd always had were a thing of the past. Secondly, I could work. Sounds odd, hey. But when there was a job of work to be done - whether it is a job of study or physiacal work of whatever kind, or handling some situation - I could just get focussed and get it all done. No distractuions or boredoms or tirednesses or anything. This was a big thing for me, because I could never do this before.

I saw it again this past week when with the earthquake we had there was a mass of, and massive, cleaning up operation to do at work. I just ploughed into it - did all the ongoing running jobs in between the clean-up, worked it all through and by 3.30pm on Friday just past the job was DONE. Felt good about it.

This ability to work had never left me and had manifested an a thousand ways. And the stability.

OK? That's my OT-3. I've only done a session or two of NOTs. Never felt much of a need to get into it.

Cheers.

Speaking of NOTs;

http://www.cs.cmu.edu/~dst/NOTs/

My favorite part of NOTs is NOTs 56:

"Keith Henson constructed a fake NOTs 56 using the Travesty program and some hand editing. (The real NOTs only goes up to 55.) Keith's effort appears as authentic as any of the real NOTs issues, which has led Scientology to claim it as a copyright violation. "

Thanks Leon, but where are the "quite a few" who had "ENORMOUS GAINS"?

Being able to get dressed in the morning without accidentally putting your pants on backwards doesn't qualify.

Hubbard messed with a lot of people's heads, and did a lot of money grubbing, people-abusing, and even child-abusing, with "the wall of fire," etc., as a big part of the justification for it.

So bring on the "quite a few" who had "enormous gains," please.

I've met some. But I am certainly not going to sit here and write about other people's wins. They can do that themselves.

If you've never met any that's your problem.

"Treasure Island" based on the book of the same name by the great Robert Louis Stevenson. Of course Wallace Beery starred in that movie as Long John Silver. BTW, RLS had some connection with Carmelo's family up in Northern Califronia as I recall.

Hatsheput, sometimes extremely intelligent people surpirse me! I mentioned Robert Louis Stevenson and then about 10 words later needed to mention it again and just abbreviated it by his "nom de plume" so to speak, RLS. You know L Ron Hubbard, LRH, George Bernard Shaw, GBS. Mark A Baker, MAB, its done all the time on the board. Brilliant people sometimes amaze one, sometimes they see things others can't see and sometimes they don't see something which to me appears totally obvious. Well you did guess at it and guessed right.

This year I had quite a fundamental realization about why the nuclear blast tihng was so hot that even the extraterrestrials had to do a fly by to check things out during the war and after
.

I never went for the Xenu story. I spent quite some time researching volcanoes like the old ones in the Gallapagos and the underwater ones in the Mediteranean Sea and especially the range in Ethiopia near the Red Sea. I paid attention to very subtle imagery popping up in my mind as assiciations to what I was looking at in my searches. From my point of view an explosion of dynamic proportions just wipes out all one's stable data and all the 'items' that have relationship values. It leaves the being sky high with no more playing field and nothing left safe to interiorize into. Nothing at all. A new game has to be coded fast or everyone goes unconscious. That much loss of havingness would just do that. This is a point where a being would be most malleable and subject to impression of implanted matrices and he would be desperately grabbing for a new 'rock' or stable datum. He would also be fighting going unconscious. The swing of the sun in our system above our planet is a symbol of TIME. When all the anchor points are thrown up in the air time becomes not so dependable a postulate. I think when one feels he has a time track per se of accomplishments to back up who he thinks or says he IS he feels more secure. When even that's thrown to the winds in the melee one can go grabbing for track to make one's identitiy feel more substantial or real. (electronic ribbons and 36 days of pics about roles to play)

This statement supports my contention that a person needs to be aware of what is being run in as things are being run out. Running something in under the perceptual RADAR is the setup for running more and more things out. That's not to say life hasn't run in on us things to be run out, but it does say that the action of processing itself can generate the perceived need for more processing. This is sometimes known as "opening up the case."
