There's merit in what you say in so far as supply of raw materials to germany goes. But industrial output was not harmed nearly as much as the allies had hoped. Aircraft production for example never slacked off at all.

Your second para is spot though as far as the western front goes. But bear in mind that for Germany four-fifths of the war effort was directed against Russia. The allies were only 20% of their war. Russian industrial output is what drowned the Wehrmacht.

I used to live with a girl, who had lived with Neal Cassady before me. For those of you in the South Bay (San Francisco Bay, that is). Laura Hunter was the girl. bet you would never have guessed that. Still doing her "basics" like a good little scout, 35 years later.

I felt encouraged that Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg and William S. Burroughs could receive admiration for just being themselves and ignite the whole BEAT generation era. I can't really say that I liked much of what they wrote though. Their lifestyle was one that I envied. I don't like to work too hard at deciphering what an artist is trying to convey via his own introspection. So I probably understood Jack more than the others because he wrote of more common things. I could understand Hemmingway easier. I appreciate the ambiance I was able to enjoy coming of age in a world affected by these guys. I felt the impact of the BEAT style growing up in Oakland in the late 50s and early 60s. Their was this communal 'feel' to gatherings at Lake Merrit or in the apartment block or down on Fisherman's Wharf where the merchant seaman hung out. The air was different somehow around Fog City. Strong individuals not strongly individuated.
When I left the Bay area I moved with me parents to a largely segregated steel mill town. Lots of old churches, lots of bad weather an everyone in their ethnic clique. We were so :bigcry:behind the times.

My goodness, I'd forgotten about Alameda mentioned in the Oakland video. terrible terrible beaches. MUCK worms!!!:omg: The tide went out and there were these big piles of WORMS...everywhere!!!! Gross. Icccckkkkk! I'm still in shock to this very day. NO place should exist like that. :grouch:

I did not realize Asbury Park was still so bohemian in the 70s. Geeeez, the names of some of those clubs are like from the 50s

There were a couple of these guys working with oil pastels who had the same style. I liked Norman Rockwell too. Where are these great artists today. I mean where are the ones for our era.
I'm a leg person. These girls in the paintings all have perfect legs, short torsos above miniscule waistes and curvy hips and beautiful backs. Now backs like those in the artwork here are rare. Its harder to find a gorgeous back than a perfect pair of legs. Working out by the resort pools you get to see all the parts on display. Men and women. Very few have the proportions of these babes. :whistling:
