I suspect Stalin was as bad a leader as Hitler. In the early stages of the war he " expelled declared" many senior officers and fucked up his army.
Russia very successfully moved its centers of industrial production
outside of Germany's ability to hit it. The other side of the Urals I believe.
At massive cost, human and otherwise.
Russia had some brilliant engineers and made WWII's best tank, T 34
IIRC, and towards the end of the war the Lavochkin La-5 was the equal of the best german fighters at low altitude, where they were employed.
Earlier they had inferior craft, and two german aces belong to the worlds
most exclusive club. Those who shot down more than 300 planes. Only 2.
Gerhard Barkhorn was one, forgot the other.
They did the " Battle of Britain" for many years, not a few months.
Russia see's WWII as the "great patriotic war". They beat Germany
and did the most in that effort.
But was a collective effort. Britain sent supplies in the earlier days via
the horrendous crossings to northern Russian ports. The US supplied the brits.
One of the escorts was HMS Belfast. A cruiser with 6 inch guns which were
state of the art, radar controlled, and capable of shooting 14 miles.
It later gained fame as one of the 3 ships who forced the german pocket battleship " Sharnhorst" to scuttle in south america.
Such is the trivia I'm capable of
