Commenting on Purple's Post 9839

So Purple, that is what this is all about. I was beginning to wonder what I had gotten myself into.

I met you on News Years Eve and we were aquaintances through August, going to events now and then and talking on the phone. In September, I got a call from you while I was attending an event at Ginger's Garden and you sounded completely different. You were now willing to use your real name on the internet and were much more open and outgoing.

Since I moved out of my house with my ex around December 7, a day which will live in infamy, we have become the best of friends and also are prospective business associates. What is more, I am getting sessions from you, my first formal sessions since 1993!!

Hanging with you when you are in "high gear" (which you almost always are) is a wild ride of fury, energy and activity. I don't fully understand what you are doing but I know one thing for sure and that is that I am keeping in my exchange.

Also, I have trust in you that you know what you are doing so I am comfortable in giving you back up no matter what it is you choose to do.

I am very excited about this new activity of offering monthly seminars featuring a facilitator and 10 other people who will particpate in a discussion panel. One main topic will be discussed during the evening panel discussion. A small fee will be charged and the money will all go to the facilitator.

PARTICIPATION FROM OUT OF TOWN
I read FoTi's comment that she would like to particpate but is just too far away. I was thinking that distance is not that much of a barrier. We could conceivably have someone call in on Skype and be a panel member. If FoTi or someone else were to do this, after attending a couple of panels, they could start a similar group in their area.

Anyway, Purple, I appreciate your blockbuster post very much and it gives me much more predictability over where we are headed in the near future than I had before reading. it.

Your good friend from here on out.

David Nelson dies at 74; last surviving member of the Radio and TV sitcom family

David Nelson and his brother, Rick, joined their parents on 'The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet' on radio in 1949. The show moved to TV in 1952 and ran for 14 years. David Nelson later became a director.

David Nelson, the elder son of Ozzie and Harriet Nelson and the last surviving member of the family that became an American institution in the 1950s and '60s as the stars of the classic TV sitcom "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet," died Tuesday. He was 74.

Nelson died at his Century City home of complications from colon cancer, said publicist Dale Olson.

"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" began on radio in 1944, focusing on the home life of bandleader Ozzie Nelson and his vocalist wife, Harriet Hilliard.

In 1949, the popular show became a true family affair when 12-year-old David and 8-year-old Ricky replaced the child actors who had been portraying them on radio.

"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" moved to television three years later, debuting on ABC in October 1952.

When the series ended in 1966 after 435 episodes, it had become the longest-running family situation comedy in TV history — as well as serving as the launch pad and showcase for teen idol Rick Nelson's singing career.

In the process of playing fictionalized versions of themselves on television each week for 14 years, David and Rick Nelson literally grew up in front of millions of Americans.

Indeed, after David and Rick were married in the early '60s, their wives — first David's wife, actress June Blair, and then Rick's wife, the former Kris Harmon — became their TV wives.

The blurring of what was real and what was not real caused confusion in some viewers' minds.

When David enrolled at USC and joined a fraternity after graduating from Hollywood High School in 1954, his TV character started college and joined a fraternity.

But unlike his TV character, who became a lawyer on the show, David did not go into law.

Instead, he launched his career as a director by taking the reins from his director-father for about a dozen episodes of the show in the early '60s. He spent the next several decades directing commercials and occasional TV series and movies.

"The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" has been criticized for presenting an idealized version of American family life that few could live up to.

That included the Nelsons, as David pointed out in a 1971 Esquire article headlined "The Happy, Happy, Happy Nelsons."

"We would keep up the front of this totally problemless, happy-go-lucky group," he said. "There might have been a tremendous battle in our home, but if someone from outside came in, it would be as if the director yelled, 'Roll 'em,' We'd fall right into our stage roles.

"It's an awfully big load to carry, to be everyone's fantasy family."

He was born Oct. 24, 1936, in New York City, when Ozzie and Harriet were in their big-band heyday.

Rick was born in 1940, the year before the Nelsons moved permanently to Hollywood.

After Ozzie and Harriet launched their radio show in 1944, David and Rick would accompany their parents to their live broadcasts.

They had no show business aspirations, but when they heard that their young friend Lindsay Crosby was going to make a guest appearance with his father, Bing, in an episode of the show in December 1948, David and Rick lobbied their parents to let them appear as well.

Ozzie and Harriet finally agreed to let them play David and Ricky in the preview show before a studio audience but not the actual broadcast.

As Harriet told The Times in 1981: "You're not anxious to put your career in the hands of kids."

The boys did not disappoint their parents.

"They just opened their mouths and you never heard such laughs," said Harriet. "Ricky sounded like a pipsqueak."

David and Ricky joined the cast of "The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet" in February 1949. Within six months, Radio Life magazine dubbed them "The Crown Princes of Radio."

From the start, Ricky was given most of the funny lines and, as a result, he received most of the attention.

But there wasn't really any rivalry between himself and his younger brother, Nelson said in a 1987 Associated Press interview.

"We were 3 1/2 years apart," David Nelson said. "So when Rick was funny, I laughed with everyone else. And when he became a popular singer, I rooted for him."

David and Rick made their movie debuts in "Here Come the Nelsons," the 1952 comedy released about eight months before the family debuted on television.

During the '50s and early '60s, David Nelson also had roles in the movies "Peyton Place," "The Remarkable Mr. Pennypacker," "The Big Circus," "Day of the Outlaw," "30" and "The Big Show."

For "The Big Circus," he learned to be a catcher in a trapeze act and later appeared professionally as a catcher.

Nelson acted only sporadically after "Ozzie and Harriet" ended; his final acting credit was as the father of Wanda ( Traci Lords) in "Cry-Baby," writer-director John Waters' spoof of the '50s.

Ozzie Nelson died of liver cancer in 1975. Rick Nelson died with six others in a plane crash on New Year's Eve 1985. And in 1994, Harriet Nelson died of congestive heart failure.

Nelson is survived by his wife, Yvonne; sons John, Eric, James and Danny; daughter Teri; and seven grandchildren. Nelson's marriage to Blair ended in divorce in 1975.

Services and burial will be at noon on Thursday at Pierce Brothers Westwood Village Memorial Park and Mortuary.

Rude awakening for me this morning:

Over my cuppa tea this morning, I realized I have been LIVING my CASE HISTORY rather than CREATING my STORY as I make my way through LIFE.

I decided a year ago, no matter how wonderful the PRESENT seemed [since I could never seem to find someone to do with me, what I am a MASTERFULLY able to do with another and others since the age of 19] that I would live my DAILY LIFE in session.

Most of my NEW friends and some OLD, have felt unsettled recently, watching me dip and sway to the MUSIC only I could hear.

Since the sudden unexpected DEATHS of 3 PHENOMENAL FRIENDS earlier last year, I felt and experienced the EARTHQUAKES each CHANGE caused in my consciousness. I have barely survived as the rugs were torn asunder, out from under me.

Could I possibly experience more?

BRING IT ON, I said. And started swimming rather than drowning.

AS A SURFER SINCE THE AGE OF TEN, during my parents’ divorce, I found the ocean my only true friend.

With a TUMULTUOUS AND TERRIBLE CHILDHOOD, I began to ride the waves of life. When WIPE OUTS came, as they often do to the unexperienced, I always seemed to innately know which way was up, and would swim with all my might for the top, gasping for that final breath which would save my life; breaking surface just as the next set of waves would take me down and out and under…learning to breath water…relaxing…

Now in 2011 I have been getting stronger, more open and more trusting with strangers than ever before. I am giving my best auditing sessions and am living life to its fullest.

For me, my heart is opening wider and wider beyond any stretch I could ever imagine: two blessing upon this earth: my two new beautiful grandsons. How could I have ever thought I was living before this? I was only struggling to SURVIVE and MAINTAIN.

And NOW, in the blissful reverie of God’s Grace, enjoying the great circle of life from a far distance, I find myself at 64, no longer battered by the waves of sorrow, but dance like there’s no tomorrow at Trader Joe’s or outside the Coffee Bean and Tea. With my smile and twinkling eyes, people of all ages join me in my DANCE. We laugh gaily…

Can it really get better than this? Have I arrived in HEAVEN? Am I Heaven-sent to bring JOY to this planet in turmoil? Can helping only one person at a time find their inner peace really make a difference for the rest? Should I speak out and shine again?

I am only dancing, spreading joy where there is sorrow. Helping bring clarity to minds clouded and depressed and struggling to find the meaning to all their unhappyness, I only listen as best I can, seeing what they see, and breathe. I help them open their door, the rest is up to them…I can only help them walk through it, help them take off their heavy overcoat once they feel safe and warm inside. I can laugh with them when they find their eternal bliss, dancing to their own music, enjoying my company but for a moment.

Next?

Eternally grateful.

This is a masterful piece of writing and life (not necessarily in that order).

That has never struck you as a bit ... strange ... Carmelo? Especially given the experiences of many, if not indeed the majority, of folks who dared openly and actively speak or have spoken against the cof$ using their IRL (In Real Life) identities? If not, then what would you attribute that to; I'm not getting it.

I don't spend anytime making them wrong. We talk about things that we share in common. Areas of tech are relatively safe. They're being in and me being out doesn't come up because it is divisive. You might try it with someone, who is your friend, and still in, and see if it works.

I left for good in 1976 with my wife. We had both started and run centers (before missions came in). We were both pretty well known auditors. Our friend base ran and continues to run deep. The people I'm talking about were my friends THEN. That was a long time ago. One didn't get declared or shit listed for walking away quietly.

By the time of the 1982 Mission Holders Massacre, we had been out over half a decade. we weren't targets to DM and company. We weren't on the radar. So far as I know, I'm still not on the radar.

About five years ago, our youngest daughter wanted to get do some courses and get some auditing. I called friends, and got her on lines at the nearby mission. she did some courses and she got some auditing. She had a great time. She didn't like the regging. Opportunely, she moved to SoCal, and just dropped the subject.

Before she ever went into the mission, my wife (her mother) and I coached on things to NEVER EVER SAY. these things included the courses she had done in Dallas at Alan Walter's center, the auditing that she had gotten and given there, the auditing she had done in general, the auditing she had gotten from her folks while growing up, etc.

Jack Straw, who is on ESMB, will tell you this all true. He was her auditor. Now he's out.

I have friends in the SO, who have been there for close to forty years. Two people, who I got into scientology. The last time I was in LA, and near L Ron Hubbard Way, I checked in on a friend there. I don't wear "Xenu" t shirts and Guy Fawkes' masks. I just walk into reception and ask to see my friends. Friends are good to have. I have friends.

You can scan through my ESMB photo album and see pictures of people (OTs) who are "in." I don't go through life trying to ruffle feathers. So the Co$ leaves me alone for the most part. I do get calls to buy the basics. I don't go into "make wrong" with those people.

The "church" that I left was a very different church than what it has morphed into today.

Most of my friends, remaining "in" do the six month empty your pockets and we'll scam you for sec checks and housing and IAS donations thing. My name isn't on the great big enemies list in the sky. I stay under the radar. I keep in touch with my friends by phone, in person, by e mail, and vice versa.

one last thing, if you were to openly wonder if I am OSA, I think you could find enough people who read this thread (alone), who I have audited and / or trained outside the Co$, many by phone, some at my house, at organized co audits that I did for years on a weekly basis in LA. I try to be pretty transparent.

does that answer your question?

I see how that would work to some degree if dealing with long term maintained friendships. I have no $cn friends, in or out; other than my wife at the time I guess there was never anyone I was really close to in cof$. When I went inactive in '81 and then totally abandoned any personal association with the subject matter around '94 or so I just found that I had nothing in common with those still in or around the periphery. But then, I was only a public for about a week and was a staff member and then s.o. for the rest of my time.

Had I remained cliv org staff only, or even came in through a mission like yourself, or spent my time mostly in the field then I can see how I may, indeed, have formed potentially life-long friendships. But, no, that's not the way it turned out. Besides, I guess I've always been a bit of a lone-wolf, for better or for worse.

Yes, I noticed the changes ocurring during my tenure as well, even though it was only many years afterwards that I was able to understand it, having decompressed enough.

No, I don't openly or covertly wonder if you're osa. I don't think you are. I won't bother with the other possibilities in terms of how osa might view your ... usefulness ... not to mention that of your connections since it would only be pure speculation on my part and of no use to anyone else.

I can understand your viewpoint, I think, since I did have a somewhat "under the radar" approach during my '81-'94 period when I still considered myself an inactive $cnist and did have a few minor connections here-and-there until I eventually left it all behind. In fact I participated on an AOL $cn sub-board when the ARS newsgroup and the AOL board were the only real public debate areas (the "web" did not exist; the online world was entirely either usenet, bbs's, AOL, or CompuServe). And I staunchly defended $cn as a poster there on AOL, tho' not under my irl i.d. That was when the main critic there was someone called "Atack" or something similar (have since wondered if that was Jon Atack but never bothered to find out). And while I read ARS from time-to-time I never posted as by that time my viewpoint was slowly shifting.

does that answer your question?
Yeah. Thanks for taking time to answer.

Leon: Thank you…machismos dittos, muchacho.:)

Ted: So glad to be heard from…I agree re: speaking with the heart…for me, at least…it don’t feel right no more ifen I don’t. That don’t mean I think everyone should think like me…there’s a whole lotta stuff a lotta folks can do that I can’t and that’s one of the things I like about bein’ ‘round other folks.:melodramatic:

Carmelo: Love it! The one thing about life I try to always remember is, “It’s the best show in town…It’s the only show in town.”

Auntpat: Thank you so much. Yeah…I can’t believe that Medicare, of all things, would not cover hearing aids…because Medicare doesn’t, the big insurance companies don’t either...whatta bunch of dipsticks. In my post Scn management career if a new hire decision between a couple candidates was pretty much a toss up, in terms of our criteria and needs, if one of them was handicapped I would go with them…worked out every time…many of the best folks we had were handicapped. Thanks for telling me about the geese…very cool...great signing stories…maybe I’ll have few of my own someday…encourages me to embrace the exploration of yet another chapter on the “E” Ticket ride I lucked onto.:happydance:

Rog: Thanks, Rog, thanks a whole bunch. In all honesty, the amount and nature of the appreciation during my life never ceases to amaze me, to humble me, to reaffirm again and again what wondrous, magical and special beings I am so blessed to share this Sea of Life with…like you, Mate.

S&L: You’re a sweet Sis and bring so much Light to all of Us here. Birds are a little mood alchemists. Wow, I don’t wish the tinnitus thingy on anyone. Oddly, I’m starting to view the construct/mechanism I am experience as sort of a capacitor/discharge mechanism I have been given as a gift for the opportunity, if I embrace it, to enjoy and learn some things I’ve been “racing too fast” or “too busy” to see or look at. Kinda works like this…”Noise” and “Clutter” (Chaos) is born of Grabbing/Possessing, Pushing/Resisting…”Flow” and “Rhythm” (Living) is Accepting/Releasing, Capturing/Letting go and is born of the Stillness of Nothing. Inorganics, like symbolic notation, TV, etc. build up my capacitor…Organics, the birds chirping, etc. the brook babbling “discharge” my “capacitor”…being in this Sea with and around Others, I find some build up and some discharge my capacitor…and some build up and discharge…and I do likewise to others…and, as long as I am in this Sea—just as my Tinnitus is always present—my capacitor will be constantly charged and discharging…and that is experience, that is sharing and that is Living…and as long as I go forward, always forward and wander my Path through this Sea everything that has happened, everything that is happening and will happen is, ultimately, Perfect.:D

Mark: Thank you…you have been of most excellent service, my friend.

Lakey: Thanks, Pardner, again you are too kind….thanks for this thread…thanks for your “Take”, so special, so unique so, so…so wonderfully Yiddish!:confused2:

Emma: I so appreciate your taking the time to read my post and I am most flattered to have your good wishes. As I have written before here…ESMB has the Power to do something El Ron falsely claimed Hisself had and "The Tech" could do…Heal. Bless you, Emms. In my part of the country we know that the only folks stronger, tougher and smarter than the Cowboys are the Cowgirls and the Maverick d' Mavericks said it best, “Once made equal to man, woman becomes his superior.” Socrates of Athens :flowers2::blowkiss:

Or put simply: loyalty to a friend is possible even where one disagrees with that friend.

All too often it is in the denial of true friendship by the institution of the Co$ that individuals are damaged. It is always a good thing when a scientologist can bring himself to overcome such institutional prejudice & practice. Over the years many have ceased their allegiance to the vicious practices of the church precisely because of loyalty to their friends.

I said I didn't think CarmelO was osa and I do mean it. But, following along with the theme of friendship, osa is devoid of heart and uses the fact of friendship ties of others in a most heartless fashion. Those ties would be considered "assets," in the sense of the unsavory world of intelligence.

No, I don't think CarmelO is a plant, double operative, or what-have-you. He would, however, be an obviously targeted conduit--moreso if naive or gullible, particularly where longstanding friendships would be concerned--for "asset" manipulation. God, I really despise the crap spy-vs-spy cesspool. But that doesn't mean I'm naive where active dyed-in-the-wool loyalties such as osa are concerned.

In my opinion CarmelO's TRUE asset--and I've agreed with this elsewhere--is his transparency, through which a trusting heart is perhaps most easily perceived.

But a trusting heart should not be confused with a gullible heart, susceptible as it would be to endlessly practiced and drilled, deceptive manipulation. That isn't meant as a slight nor accusation, just a note of caution with perhaps a tinge of innuendo with regard to what he stated earlier about his friends in the s.o. and osa.
