The obvious clear benefit would be the thread owner would then have the ability to remove all posts which served only to derail the thread from his intended topic or descend into public hissy fits. Of course, nothing is free and that comes with tradeoffs.

That's a good point. Of course, the decision to remove content becomes a subjective one, I suppose. One person's "hissy-fit" is another's "robust challenge". I think the a strict adhesion to the "no ad hom" rule might work. As for derailing, it sometimes seems to me that this thread has become a bit of a derail looking for a topic. I mean, seriously, what does a cut'n'paste dump on pick-up-techniques or the current the current state of the New York Jets have to do with life aboard the Apollo in 1973? I doubt such posts would have lasted long under the reign of King Leon.

This thread has become something of a phenomena, a message board within a message board where like minded people appear to gather and chatter amongst themselves. As first the number of views mounted and then the number of comments, statistics were announced and well received by regular commentators. There seemed almost an air of celebration at having created a haven for the "up tone" and isolation from PTS/SP elements "infesting" other parts of the board. Fascinating to watch, but worrying too. I wonder why this "them and us" dynamic began to develop, what forces were fostering its growth and reinforcing its apparent picture of "the outside" where rough and tumble is pretty much the norm. Who would benefit from isolating the pro-LRH (EDIT: "pro-tech") from the "haters and bashers"?

At no point, from post #1 was it "pro LRH"

there may have been some "pro LRH" posters (Terril Park and Blue Spirit), but I doubt that 10% of the posters are or were "pro LRH"

I disagree. But, even if I'm wrong (and it wouldn't be the first time) what is it, then? What is the glue that has held this thread together? Sure, Lakey has done a remarkable job as "host" acknowledging the value of diversity of opinion. Yourself and others have delivered a smorgasboard of news and opinion from "outside", in fact there's enough general material and specific information here to warrant a full index. I'm just trying to get a handle on what it is that has generated what is a unique message board thread.

Perhaps there's a whole life to the thread that goes on hidden in the back channel and all I see is a partial reflection. Perhaps I'm just thinking too much. Perhaps its all just a manifestation of the Arcyclus Implant where those with a shared past gather for the numbingly mundane because that's all they know?

There are a number of posts on the thread wherein individuals discuss spiritual tech, both in terms of scientology and improvements thereon. They certainly do not constitute "pro-lrh". Interest in spirituality is a common theme among all who have been involved with the church. Not all abandon their own interest when they choose to leave the church. Many find much value in aspects of scientology tech. A rational mind recognizes that that does not equate to the person being "pro-lrh".

Frankly, you would have to look far & wide to find a person on esmb who is "pro-lrh". That includes looking among the freezoners. Even among freezoners more generally and not simply those who post on esmb, MANY would characterize themselves as definitely NOT "pro-lrh".

I see the Apollo thread as a neighborhood within the ESMB community. Your observation of a “Board within a Board” is astute.

I came here because during my Lurking days I liked the qualities of most of the folks here, the “smorgasbord” as you said, the fact that it was ongoing and the fact that Lakey, along with a little help from his friends Carmelo and S&L, were doing their thing to keep the lights on, the chairs warm and the ash trays clean. What has evolved here is a sort of a “Self Ordered Criticality” or Fractal Fizz moveable feast that I, personally, enjoy very much.

With certainty I can say that if it wasn’t for this thread and, in particular the folks here, I never would have posted very much on ESMB and, without doubt, would never have posted the in-depth El Ron and me stuff I have.

I was talking to a friend the other day and said something I used to tell my Children when they were going through Middle and High School, and that I tell folks from time to time when I feel it might be helpful to them…and I remind myself of this everyday about me;

“Everyone alive has their own “Goiters”, some big, some small, some hidden, some showing.”

For me, it’s not a matter of what you do about your goiter, it’s a matter what you in spite of it.

Yes, there’s a buncha “Dinosaurs” around here gruntin’, snortin’, fartin’ and cavortin’…but we’s all kinda like it and get it. Does that make us “Special”? No. Does that make us look a little “Odd” sometimes? Yes. Do we care that we’re “Eccentric” a bit? Nope. Are we gonna change? Not likely. Do we wanna change? No way.

I have posted over 20,000 words on ESMB about my “Take” on El Ron, Scn and the “Tech”. Anyone that thinks I’m “pro tech, El Ron or Scn” can’t read so well. But, I know what I know and more and more everyday I find out just how little I know, and that’s a good thing—at least for me— IMHO.

Glad you’re here, Blip…I read your stuff…you make me think, reflect and laugh that’s real helpful to me.

The funny thing about this is that the same people who "feared" for the future of ESMB and spread the rumours about Mike Laws, are now promoting a new FZ board and trying to get everyone to leave ESMB because its "not safe anymore". I truly doubt Mike Laws was invited

The more I look at this the more I see this whole "Mike Laws" thing as an excuse to paint ESMB as dangerous and infiltrated so as to move the FZ community away from ESMB into a "safer environment" - one AWAY from the truth about Scientology that so many do not wish to face or risk their future clientele of being exposed to.

This is amusing to me as it is the very thing they were accusing Mike Laws of trying to do for Marty & Mike. Or Maybe they are scared that Marty will take all their paying customers?

Amusingly, I don't see Marty as being one bit interested in tackling Capt Bills flying saucer sekret levels.

I'd like to add that I have nothing against a new and better FZ board, I hate the format of those yahoo groups. I wish it every success. But folks, its not a competition.
