Forgot about Bosch. Never had much connection to them. And thus don't don't their reliability record.

What also happened was that the brit motor industry used its public as
Qual. Lol Big fail!

Then whopping complacency. Trying to sell cars in overseas markets the
bright spark execs told the home team that the Japanese imports were
.......laughable.

Thus went the car and bike industry and television industry.

Sort of.

Your comment in red above hits the nail on the head as far as a major reason for the Brit Motor Industry going down the drain.

As you know from other posts by me, I was involved in an international consulting game and had in our employ former key players in the African continent's security. One such employee had been the head of Dr Banda's Presidential Security team in Malawi. This in the '60's.

The story he tells is quite revealing.

As you know the Rover Car Company "owned" the market for 4-wheel all terrain vehicles with its "Land Rover" . . . . well you'll also remember in those days of 1960'-'70's the Land Rover was a boxy, jungle going 2 door thing with a flat roof and access in the back via split horizontal upper window and lower panel . . . rather like a utility.

Well, the Malawi government (and other former Brit Commonwealth African nations) wanted to buy and use Land Rovers as fast and lightweight troop/police carrying vehicles . . . problem was that being only a 2 door vehicle it was rough for the guys in the back to get in and out, and a tremendous liability in the event of emergency . . . . the guys in the back seats could actually get trapped.

So, the African folks (my employee was one of the principals on the line doing the negotiation) asked the Rover Car Company if they would make a 4 door vehicle that would be more suitable for their use :D

The Brit response was . . . well, British:p

In essence, they said "get stuffed" . . . the Land Rover is a 2 door vehicle and that's the way it is, take it or leave it:duh:

When the Africans asked the Japanese if they could accommodate the request, the reply was: "Certainly sir, and what size doors would suit you best?"

Thousands of these 4 door vehicles were sold into Africa by the Japs because of this, and in essence it established this particular model for them. And the rest, as they say is history.

The Rover Car Company is no more . . . who was it that took them over and runs the brand? Ford?

Hi guys. I'm finally at a computer after a week of chaos. We are all OK here. House only slightly damaged - nothing serious. But the dear city of Christchurch is wounded and reeling from the punch it got last Tuesday.

I'm just having a brief look in here. I was able to contact Kutta when the phones came on again last Friday evening - she's fine. We have no power or water or toilets. We dig a hole in the garden when we need to crap - there's no sewage. We are able to hook up to a generator a few hours a day and manage to keep the freezer going and stop the food from spoiling. The roads are ripped up wherever you go. Bridges down. Chaos everywhere. The quake we had last September was just a twinkle in the earth's eye. On Tuesday it said hello.

Do you want to know what an earthquake is like? It's a great big bloody NUISANCE. Everything you want to do is ten times the effort. What was a ten minute drive across town is now an hour's drive there and an hour's drive back. Hunt for roads which are open, etc etc etc

I don't know when I'll look in here again. I'll come on line as soon as things are hooked up again - probably in about a week's time. Thanks for all the good wishes received - they are appreciated more than you can imagine.

Love to all

Thanks, Leon . . .

Very happy to hear you're in good shape, no bumps or bruises etc. I can just imagine the nuisance level you speak of. What a bitch! :grouch:

Hi Leon,

Thanks for checking in and giving us an update. I'm glad to hear you are okay, and so is Kutta. What a headache it must be for you to deal with all of this.

Best wishes to you. I hope things go as smoothly for you as is possible under the circumstances.

Love,
Sheila

Guess this was the way forward for the Mitsubishi Shogun.

Almost getting on topic here?

What a relief!

Aw, Leon, so good of you to make the effort to get in touch with us here. So very glad to learn that things, challenging as they are for you right now, are not worse, as they so easily could have been. Our hearts go out to everyone who has been effected by this. Christchurch is a beautiful city and will be restored...some things may not still be the same, but life will still be good there. Glad to know that you and Kutta and families are safe, if not comfortable. You know I am praying for you every day, so I hope things get sorted out and repaired soon. I've lived through several disasters myself, and the things that helped me most was to take life in day sized bites, and just live in the moment and satisfy the present needs, and don't look too long or hard at the whole enchilada of the big mess that everything is in.

LA sent out best search and rescue team pronto. I know they will help and do some good.

Also, can I say that I have used this bit of Ron's tech personally? Creating one stable datum as a focus point, and building on it bit by bit to put things to rights. That helped to keep me focused and making forward progress when I was in a totally devastating situation.

I say from experience that surviving, not matter how trying it can be, is wonderful! :happydance:

God Bless New Zealand!

Yes, Terril, Volkswagon Rabbit??? I had a friend who had one and used to say, lets take the bunny and called it hoppity!!!

Needless to say, she was an actress...my life is filled with creative types! :D

Great video by Candy re: Yvonne and Celebrity Centre!!

First, thanks to Leon for his report on the earthquake in Christchurch and the news that, while conditions are difficult, he is doing okay. Candy's landlord, Robin is also back in Christchurch at this time as well.

THE BILL FRANKS' THREAD There is fanstastic energy going on over at the Bill Franks' thread! About 20 ESMB board members and 19 guests reading it at this moment. Franks himself has appeared and corroborated the story originally posted by Gwells.

BLOCKBUSTER NEW VIDEO BY CANDY Even with all the interest in the Franks' thread, a video Candy made up north last weekend with Tatiana has just appeared on the internet today. It is such a blockbuster video that I wanted to post it here right at this moment. For buffs of Scientology history, this video is a real breakthrough as to the goings on in Scientology in the late 1960's and early 1970's. Here is a link to it on Tatiana's website:

Dear Sir, Indeed I remember Teri Spickler.
Yes, there is some truth to this. We didn't get too far with this but I very well remember Alan walter and myself up all night before I believe the last meeting yelling at Miscavage and his crew which included Norm starkey. Our theme wa that if you are going to hold the power then you indeed have to be responsible for the fact that you don't know **** about Scientoogy or running it.I believe that that was the night that Yeager, who had some post that I can't recall, on his knees in front of me, this was earlier in the night, begging us to call this off.
One shouldn't forget that the midget is scared ****less of people and being a wog just like us guys -or at least me. Afterall, we were not asking for more that the opportunity to expand the church but they saw it as losing contorl which gets us back to the purpose of the o/w thing I revealed. as I think I said on my FB page, miscavage once said to me that he would do anything rather than having to sell laser prints(which was the big source of income for Scnoes trying toearn their way up the bridge back in the early 80's" He seems to have meant every word of "I would do anything".
But then again he was in a tough spot being 4'8" with an eight grade education. best, Bill

Don't forget about us Leon. We're thinking about you Kiwis over here. So sorry for your inconveniences. Hang together with the good people. Find out which are best at outdoor cooking.

I remember back in 2004 Orlando went thru Hurricane Charley, Hurricane Jean, Hurricane Francis and the drenching 3 week monsoons of Hurricane Ivan. Trees are very tall there with shallow roots and all came down barring the roads. It was scarey to run out of flashlight batteries and not be able to travel to get more. You could smell the gas from the generators for weeks. The eye of Charley came right over my house. It felt like an earthquake.

William K. Black Defines Fraud

This is a talk on financial fraud in the banking industry. Initially the part that grabbed my attention because it relates to Hubbard and Scientology is where Bill Moyers asks William K. Black what is his definition of fraud.

From 2:07 to 2:29.

So I ask, is Scientology a fraudulent activity?

Yes, this is good, Ted.

My memory, from my days studying the law, is that in English/British law, fraud is defined as "the use of deceit to gain a pecuniary advantage."

But in modern American law the definition is much broader and includes many types of fraud . . . . and the Cof$ is in breach of many of them; many!

Yep. As I understand the layman's definition of fraud, its about "deliberate misrepresentation by words, conduct, and/or omission" (which covers your "deceit") but extends further than just pecuniary advantage to also cover, if I remember correctly, "favour and/or position". But, yeah, no doubt about it: Scientology is fraud from start to finish, from engrams through to Xenu.
