Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

Tony told me all about his time aboard the Apollo. He said he had to climb in to vents to clean them for LRH (he had to have a dust free environment), would sleep in the rescue vessels attached to the boat. He was 9 years old when someone in the Co$ molested him. He said she "took his virginity". What a lead in to future molestations that led him to jail. He said he was LRH's auditing guinea pig. His time in the Sea Org led him to where he is now... prison. Period.

While we in Europe and the USA slept last night, gold went through $US1,700 per ounce.

There is, of course, all sorts of chaos hitting "the markets" now the US Sovereign Debt has been downgraded by two (US) rating agencies . . . it was earlier downgraded by a more honest and upfront Chinese agency :p

In any event, this interview between two very learned gentlemen occurred in London yesterday while attending the Gold Anti-Trust Action Committee meeting being held there

There will be more hot info out of London and GATA in the days to come . . . for those interested stay tuned on http://www.jsmineset.com/

Re: The old days - Adams Ave., San Diego and Tucson

Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping set up my #1 daughter's baby shower. The little girl is due in 2-3 weeks. Daughter's #2 and #3 put the event together. Grandpop (me) supplied beer and wine, moved chairs, whatever. Aside from a couple of young lads, I was the only guy there.

There must have been 60+ ladies there. Most stayed 5 to 6 hours. Drank, joked, gabbed, played games, socialized, watched as gifts were opened, all in all, a good time was had by everyone.

At the end, daughter #1 drove away in her full-size pickup, back and cab loaded. The good friend who hosted the shower loaded her full-size SUV, front seat, back seat, and rear end, full up with stuff.

Way back when, my wife and I had 4 babies--not all at once. The first received a few gifts and each thereafter received fewer until the boy received almost none. It was not because we had no friends, but maybe because we had few true friends, and they were living elsewhere. I believe the lack of support was a reflection of bad company; it was a reflection of with whom and how we were connected.

Scientology makes people insecure in their person. "You need your Bridge," "Get your stats up, or else..." etc. The individual is always under attack if on staff, and sometimes with public. Scientology extracts all of a person's resources, money being a primary one, time being another. This doesn't leave much to give even if a person want to.

So you might imagine my joy to see so much support for my once-baby-girl-soon-to-be-a-mom--again. She has quite a network of friends and associates, some of whom she had not seen in a year.

I think she is turning out pretty okay. The granddaughters are in very good hands. Oh, yes. Their daddy is a good man, too. And, this had NOTHING to do with Scientology.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Re: A Simple Desultory Philippic

I would like to reply to the above from a different perspective.

but first, I think I need to show my credentials.

I'm 60. When I was 13 and 14, I walked precincts for Barry Goldwater (AuH2O in 64), while my parents were for Rockefeller. I was reading US News and World Report, and was a big fan of Bill Buckley. Through the years, I worked for and supported Ronnie Reagan for Governor and President. I also voted for Obama. My politics have not changed.

The Cheney Bush years destroyed my allegiance to the Republican party. They racked up debt (Cheney Bush and Congress) like it was going out of style. Graft, corruption, old buddy networks were the order of the day. The nincompoops they put on the Supreme Court was also a major turn off for me.

Something has to be done about the deficits, sooner rather than later. Otherwise, we'll be like Greece or Ireland. Allowing Wall Street to strip value out of the money is a Republican and a Democratic attribute. It isn't liberal or conservative. It is self serving politics of law enforcement for sale.

The military industrial government oligarchy that Dwight Eisenhower warned about is in full swing and joined at the hip with Wall St. It's all about money.

It galls me that Navy Seals risk their lives for each other and overall good, but politicians are too chicken shit to even risk an honest statement or vote.

Paul Ryan and Ron Paul (to name two) are legitimate honest politicians. Practically everyone else is a joke. All they see is the next election. the word "mensch" doesn't even exist, as a concept, to most of those clowns. Except for a small few, they are all in it for themselves, and no one like you and me. It isn't about liberal or conservative. It is about re election. Lies and damned lies is order of the day.

Back to Obama versus McCain. McCain sold his soul to the Christian right. He plain as day sold out. He didn't and doesn't use a computer. He is too out of date for me. I chose Obama for what looked like positive leadership ability.

Other than Ron Paul, currently running for president there are no leaders, just focus group junkies. Obama was not there for debt negotiations - even the NY Times hit him on his lack of leadership. Peggy Noonan (one of my favorites) called him a loser. BUT she said the same thing essentially about Romney, Newt, etc.

The country in general is hooked, like a drug junkie, on non production in exchange for money. The system has to change. It isn't going to be pleasant.

Re: A Simple Desultory Philippic

1) When I was in grammar school we learned American History--if only scratching the surface--and I was taught to believe that anyone had a chance of becoming president. In my youthful naiveté I thought a person could do it alone. The fact is, it takes a network or support to make it to the top. Call it a good-ol'-boy network or whatever, it just isn't going to happen on one's own. Obama has a network. It is a network of radicals and crooks attempting to operate in secret duplicity . The Bush-Cheney network was a bit more up-front. When people complain about the networks they are really making themselves heard because they are not part of it. People who had good auditing do not complain. People who are benefiting from a network are not complaining.

2) Fully agree.

3) Agree. Here Hubbard's Science of Survival is useful in evaluating the situation. Politicians often speak in glowing generalities. "Hope and Change" is but the near complete distillation of politico speak. Such generalities allow an ignorant or stupid populace to create in their own minds what exactly the phrase stands for. Following that, few people will ever be satisfied.

I want to blow up the TV every time I see a politician explaining or justifying his position when I know he is just lying. Lying is not good. When I see lying intended to create false impressions it just infuriates me. If a person will lie to my face I have to ask, "What are they doing behind my back?"

What really galls me about politics and the military is the same thing that has galled me since LBJ wanted to send me to Vietnam to patrol the jungles and rice fields: I detest the manner in which politicians spend the lives of young men, and now young women. The political class is overrun with cowards. The recent downing of the helicopter with 30+ personnel, most of them Special Forces, infuriates me. I say that because our rules of engagement SUCK. ... Wait! I can't go on... This pisses me off too much.

Back on response...

4) Agreed. Most have never run a business, don't know what it is to pay the bills, make a payroll, hire, fire, produce a needed/wanted product or service, ...

Video: Small Business Owner Rips Obama

... yet they dictate how things should be run through regulations and mandates.

5) I voted for McCain because I could not vote for a hidden WHO. As a Senator he (Obama) introduced no legislation and his voting record was primarily "Present" casting neither a Yes nor a No thus exposing his position. Obama remains hidden. Recent efforts have opened his Columbia records where he attended college on a foreign scholarship/financial assistance. Obama has paid millions in legal fees to keep his records closed. Who but a dishonest person would do that?

6) The system is geared to pay for non-production. Walk into your local city planning for a permit. Here we see people doing their nails, personal phone calls, taking extended breaks while customers wait in line. These customers are business people who have to make good use of every minute in the day. Locally, clerks are allowed so many minutes per customer. If one customer is serviced in lesser time people in line can be made to wait until the allotted time has elapsed when the next customer will be serviced. During the wait the clerk is allowed to do whatever, check the ball scores, hang by the water cooler... That's the rule.

Now my running refrain: There will be no recovery until we have a cheap source of power. Right now it is fossil fuel. No drilling = no power = no recovery. And, we have to pay for and reward productivity.

And that helicopter thing, if it is discovered that all those Special Forces were on one copter-not the usual practice--due to some money-saving thing, I will go ballistic.:angry::angry:

Okay, and thank you.

I am about to write the story of Adams Ave, from my perspective, of course. It will involve personal stuff. I would like to just tell the story without Q&A from critics or anyone else. My hope is that someone will benefit by reading it. By benefit I mean extricate themselves from the scio trap while retaining whatever good they gained.

Question: Should I post it here? Create its own thread? Or blog it sans responses? Or create a blog with a separate thread for comments?

I dunno...I think a new thread would be good as you would not only be telling your story but documenting some of the history of the era and what once was a fine Mission and a great bunch of folks.

Whatever you decide, I look forward to reading all that you wish to post re: Adams Ave.

MORE SWING - THIS TIME DANCING!!
Here is a dance contest from a 1943 Bowery Boys movie staring Leo Gorcey and Hunts Hall. I just love this song and heard it before as a kid but I can't find out the name of it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CoOoCqZtaEg

It is an elimination dance, the music stops and a couple is tapped on the shoulder and has to drop out.

Leo Gorcey was married to his dance partner in this movie. A couple of years later they divorced and the girl married Groucho Marks and bore him a daughter who is fairly well known.

Its rare and very satisfying to get a learned, factual non biased report such as occurs in this video which Roger posted. We are watching our country being torn apart financially, while those in charge either are like ostriches with their heads in the sand or even worse, they might know what is happening and knowingly want us to fail so they can impose some sort of "hobby horse" agenda upon us.

In President Obama's case, I believe it is a little of both. He seems to really believe in the failed fiscal principles which he is applying (largely Kenesian economics), old tried and true procedures which have been used many times in the past without ever working as well as currently being used elsewhere, also without working. He says that those policies would work if only his political foes would cooperate with him a bit instead of fighting him at every turn.

It is strange that he may have been able to exercise his financial theories prior to the Novermber, 2010 election but chose not to do so. He had a super majority in both houses of Congress and things had not yet deteriorated to the point they have now so he could have passed anything he wanted. Why didn't he at least try to do it when he could? I can't think of a good reason.

He seems to believe that his policies would totally handle our economic situation if only Congress would act on them. Instead of standing up like a man and exercising an ability to lead, he looks hurt and blames all sorts of other people, natural disasters and groups (i.e. the Busth administration and the "Tea Party" politicians) for things getting worse. Never has he once admittedresponsibility for anything which has gone wrong "under his watch!"

With all that being said, his goal is to make us into a country in the mold of a European Union country and he knows we must go through an uncomfortable reorganization period which may likely require many citizens to suffer financial hardships of a magnitude similar to those of the Great Depression of the 1930's.

All of this is extremely scary, on its own merits, but when you look further you see that in the upcomming 2012 election, it looks like it will be extremely close, a nail bitter right down to the wire. THIS IS ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.!! A man performing his job in such a poor fashion as President Obama, still has a fair chance of being re-elected in 2012!

This does not say much for the wisdom of our electorate. President Obabma is in way, way over his head. He had no executive experience in his past and as Roger pointed out, his term as a U.S. Senator was totally undistinguished. He was totally unqualified to be President and he is performing just as expected by anyone who took an honest look.

What is it that so many have said in the past? If "Joe Blow" gets re-elected, I am moving to Canada. I will say that if President Obama gets re-elected, I will move to Australia. I wish I could but I really can't relocate there so there is only one alternative and that is that he does not get re-elected!

I "served" on the Apollo in late 1973. The official title of the ship was "Twin Screw Motor Yacht Apollo", abbreviated TSMY Apollo on the life preservers and other items on the ship.

How did I serve? I believe they needed someone there to take the fall for things which had been going wrong at Celebrity Centre in L.A. For example, the building at 1809 W. 8th St. did not have permits to serve food nor put on shows. The wiring was substandard and the building was not up to L.A. City Building Code standards. After 3 short weeks on post with no hatting whatever and not even a Hat Write Up for my post, I was removed from post for not quickly resolving these problems. My head was "put on a pike" as the party responsible for all of this. Naturally, I had to have committed "overts" against CCLA to have performed so poorly so it was declared by LRH, himself, that I had embezzled funds from CCLA Treasury.

That was the extent of my "service", serving as the "head on a pike" to explain CCLA's failures. Well I did my service and then left the S.O. glad to at least be able to "serve" in some capacity.

TWIN SCREW MOTOR YACHT
THE VESSEL WAS APTLY NAMED!! When you went there they gave you a "twin screwing" if not worse. You were screwed in at least two ways.

Before I got there, they had confined unethical "cats" in the "chain locker" and also threw them overboard. These acts were bad for their their PR image so by the time I arrived, I was given a double screwing in two other ways.

The first was being given a job without first being hatted and not even being provided with a Hat Write Up; second, was being falsely accused by LRH, himself, of overts which were never commited.

If this isn't being screwed from both ends I don't know what is!

Ultimately, after I left, they beefed up the screwing process by stiffening the gradient and creating the RPF.

After all these completely psychotic and bullshit handlings having to do with managing people they then still had the audicity to promote and sell "Green on White" management tech to those who had left. As they say, "Go figure!"

Yacht is generally a reference to a pleasure craft over about 6 metres (20 ft) and upwards. It is not necessarily in reference to the method of propulsion, although most sailing vessels are referred to as yachts.

Those luxury boats of about 33 metres (100 ft) in length that certain wealthy people own are always referred to as yachts.

RIP: Jim Pinkham

A friend wrote this to me today:

I recently found out that Jim Pinkham passed away earlier this year.  Jim was one of LRH's first staff members, and a very close friend of Jack Horner.  I became acquainted with him for a period of about 5 years when he was living in San Francisco, starting around 1999 or 2000.  I don't have enough information about him to write a proper obituary, but the writeup below is from my recollections, plus emails and notes from phone conversations.

Jim Pinkham 1928 - 2011

Jim Pinkham attended the second Dianetics course held in Elizabeth New Jersey, joined staff and worked under LRH until 1955 when he was, as he put it, "eased out."  (Earlier, in Philadelphia, Helen O'Brien had tried to persuade LRH to fire Pinkham, but Ron told her "I fired him, but he won't leave!")

In 1953 Pinkam went to live in Phoenix to continue working for LRH.  Like Hubbard, he was a motorcycle enthusiast, and they sometimes rode together during this period, sometimes off road at high speed.  Ron told him "You know, Jim, a horse will go almost anywhere a motorcycle will go."

Among other duties Jim was responsible for recording many or most of LRH's lectures in the early to mid 50's, and after leaving staff in 1955 he occasionally returned at LRH's request to record more lectures at the congresses, through 1962.

Jim claimed that the theme "Accent on Ability" in Dianetics '55 was the result of an all-night discussion he had with Bob Stone.  He said that on the following day they spent several hours explaining their idea to LRH, after which the the book, still in draft form, was substantially rewritten to incorporate it.

Jim also said the content of History of Man (a/k/a What to Audit) was not from from LRH's case nor audited by LRH. He claimed that it came from the sessions of one Nan Webster McCurdy, audited by Bud Eubanks in Wichita in the fall of 1951, and that "Hubbard bought it hook, line and sinker."  He said the sessions were "recorded, transcribed, and embellished."  He also described Ms. McCurdy as "certifiably insane," and characterized "95% of the dissertation on the whole track in What to Audit" as "pure crap."

He described LRH as a "very proprietary individual" and thought that Ron had decided "how to get the larger part of humanity under his general control" as early as 1951, and that part of that plan included promoting the concept "Look, Don't Think," which Jim attributed to a lecture given in or around September, 1953.

Jim thought that auditing had workability, but he was not a believer in the Scientology "Bridge to Total Freedom."  He referred to it as "the bridge that goes up but not across."

He was a lover of jokes and especially puns.  (Somewhere there is a lecture in which LRH laments the number of people who left Scientology before the latest developments, comparing them to dinner guests who leave before dessert is served.  LRH concludes his remarks with something like "I could have said they deserted before dessert, but that sounds too much like Pinkham.")

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973 - YOU MENTION TWO KEY POINTS!!

I presumed that people were invited to the Apollo.

One thing i have noticed since reviewing the 50s Aberree is the idea of invitation, the ritual of your special, and when you mess up we invalidate everything you ever did, soul cracking. your special , your nothing. Like bending steel back and forth you break.

Jachss - You mention one interesting point and one superlatively interesting point.

Point 1 - "INVITATIONS"

When I did OT III in 1976, everyone was required to be invited to do the level. A person had to list how they had aided in Scn expansion. If a prospect was lacking in dissemination or doing work for C of S or attacking its enemies, the invitation was not given until the items lacking were done to C of S's satisfaction.

I had a poor record in dissemination, having never been able to get anyone in. All my friends and family, except my brother, did not care for Scn and rather than signing up themselves, they all tried to get me to quit. I cited contributions having to do with quitting my job to join the Sea Org and paying in most of my money for services. They accepted these without ordering me to do more. Ditto for when I started NOTS in the early 80's.

As far as the Apollo, I was a Sea Org member and was ordered to the ship. Probably the public who went there to receive auditing had to be invited. I don't really know.

POINT 2 - Having everything one ever did invalidated by C of S.

Jachss, you make an very astute observation in bringing up this point!! I began noticing this trait in LRH and church management shortly after joining staff in late 1971.

Let's say a person was "Super Literate", doing a course where he had to look up nearly every definition of every word which was used in the LRH Study Tapes and Student Hat Course. The number of words which had to be looked up and "cleared" was in the thousands and then each word had an average of 6 or 7 meanings. Probably a person had to clear 15,000 or so word meanings! Only then was the person allowed to listen to the Study Tapes and only after those was the person allowed to do the Student Hat Course. At completion, the person could boast that he/she was "Super Literate".

I was impressed when a person reached this state. Let us say that someone was OT 7 and super literate but failed to perform to LRH's satisfaction on a particular post. It was fairly common for LRH to discredit this individual and "Cancel all his Certificates!!!

Even when I was 100% gung ho, when I heard of instances of this, some doubt floated through my mind, Al. A person who opened up Continents for LRH over a 5 year periord could have all his Certificates, including his OT level certificates, cancelled in a heartbeat if LRH became upset with him!

I knew the high intelligence level of many of the crew and knew that the courses were run standardly and that nearly all the students were devoted to really "duplicating" the data. When someone completed course and showed competence for an extended period of time, I respected that person

As you say, Jachs, if a person messed up, all that the person had done before was invalidated. IT WAS EVEN WORSE THAN THAT, MUCH WORSE! Sometimes, the person did not mess up. They were accused of messing up but in reality had done nothing wrong!!

EXTREME CASES OF PERSONS "MESSING" UP WHEN THEY DIDN'T
Read the story of Otto Roos, Class XII, who made a concerted effort to have standard LRH tech applied to LRH's case. Working with a team of Apollo Class XII's, he was determined to totally clean up LRH's case. At first LRH expressed gratitude and interest but as the time neared for LRH's case to be audited, LRH punched Roos in the face, stripped him of all his certs and kicked him out.

The other case of comparable magnitude was what happened to Class XII David Mayo. Of course he was stripped of all certificates after working closely with LRH for a decade, saving LRH's life by bringing him back from "dying" up to a state of health where he could continue to work. Mayo also helped LRH develop NOTS.

A POSSIBLE NEW THREAD?
In one's journey through the Church of Scientology, huge outpoints and inconsistencies are encountered such as those above. I AM TALKING ABOUT OUTPOINTS SO LARGE THAT JUST THAT ONE POINT ALONE WOULD BE SUFFICIENT GROUNDS TO LEAVE C OF S!! It would be interesting to start a thread of just those types of outpoints and see where it leads!
