This is interesting. I believe I remember this discussion.
My own view is that the religions of the world, those that worship any being, are actually creating a "false God" whenever they pray to some external entity, or give it a name.
Essentially, I actually agree that these religions are usually all about people worshipping idols/implanted symbols. Sometimes they go a bit deeper, and try to connect with archetypal subconscious imagery, very rarely is any gnostic understanding of truth pursued. While I think that Hubbards Clearing Course and New OT Levels are completely bogus, I do think that "clearing" type work done on any belief system, particularly those composed of obeisances to a deity or other idolatry, would be productive of freedom for an individual. "Religions" like Buddhism, or gnostic Christianity, IMO, stand a chance of enlightening a person. Concerning ourselves too much with Hubbard and his weird sci-fi beliefs, only produces argument and delusion.
