At suggestion of Tom Cruise and ordered by Scientology Chairman of the Board David Miscavige, Scientology tapped the phones of Nicole Kidman.

I already posted the following in the Reviews thread, but think it deserves its own thread for Google purposes if nothing else. What is alleged is a crime.

I read one account where TC said that he did not have certain info or couldn't answer a question and then said as a joke that he was not tapping Nicole's phone, Rathbun reported it to DM and then the wiretap was ordered.

I wonder if anyone from Gibney's team saw Nicole at Sundance? She was there on Friday night promoting her new film. I'm sure her publicists will be very busy answering calls this week.

It is one thing to know that's one's phones are tapped, it is another to know by whom. It is yet another to have evidence concerning who is doing (or did) the tapping.

Marty's Rathbun's admission that he had Nicole Kidman's phone tapped, and his assertion that he did so on the order of David Miscavige, are very significant.

Just a note on the wiretapping.

The go-to thug, sleaze PI for Hollywood was Anthony Pelicano the "Investigator of the Stars". He did criminal jobs for lawyers, including illegal wiretaps, terroristic threats and a long list of crimes that would earn a GO/OSA executive the title of Kha-Khan.

Pelicano was found guilty and sentenced to 15 years in prison for illegal wire taps, storing grenades in his office safe and a multitude of other felonies. His list of clients was a who's-who of the most ruthless and unscrupulous in Hollywood. Actors, directors, producers and pop artists who wanted to "get" their enemy at any (illegal) cost hired Pelicano--as long as they felt there were enough degrees of separation so they didn't get caught and go to jail themselves.

One of the names at the top of his VIP client list was super-attorney Bert Fields. Yes, the same Bert Fields that has been Tom Cruise's attorney for decades.

Prosecutors did make cases against some other famous Hollywood power players and they also got prison time. Bert Fields stonewalled successfully and never was indicted.

Of course Tom Cruise would authorize and pay big bucks to a sleazy PI like Pelicano to do his dirty work--no different than other "remorseless" clients like mafia boss and sociopathic hitman extraordinaire Tony Spilatro of the Chicago mob. I'm betting that there is a seven year statute of limitations on pursuing legal action for phone tapping. So I doubt anything will happen with law enforcement on this.
