Re: Perpetual Motion Engine!?
No not on a current thread, I was just reading old Apollo posts and saw that. Now I understand. It did not violate the law of conservation because it needed the initial jump. After that it recycled. I assume that eventually it would leak and need a refill. While I wrote on my blog of the case of God and ex nihilo creation - on earth by humans we cannot violate the laws of thermodynamics....so I like Phil spickler's explanation of what an old time view of OT was since it was not cause over matter energy etc. I posted that to a thread yesterday.
On the perpetual motion machine, I don't believe that to be classed as a perpetual motion engine, an engine would have to be self starting. It is presumed that its first start would be assisted by an outside source but from then on, it would run for ever without any additional energy being applied.
Howard Johnson , a different Hojo than the one who founded a large Motel chain in the eastern USA, claimed that once his hojo engine was started by an external force and got up to a certain rpm level, around 3,000 and not 8 to 10 thousand as I said yesterday, his running engine would, as one of its by products, amplify the magnetic field in the space surrounding his engine into a larger magnetic field.
From that point, he makes his quantum leap out into never-never land. He suggests that by strategically placing strong magnets in the nozzle area of his engine, those magnets will be able to acquire more magnetic force than they started out with and this additional magnetic force can be converted to electricity by his engine and thus keep his engine running.indefinitely once its plug has been pulled. Clearly, Hojo, who died in 1979, thought outside the box but there is nothing wrong with doing that. Virtually all great breakthroughs result from doing that.
Thus the hojo engine might be described as not a pure perpetual motion engine because there is a secondary power source created when the engine is given a jump start. However, hojo was hoping that the secondary power source created by his engine would supply more than enough power to keep his engine spinning. In other words, the secondary power it created would be more than sufficient to overcome the internally generated friction and leakage present within his engine. For this to happen, one has to think that there is already a magnetic field in the air surrounding his engine and by placing magnets in the nozzle of his engine, those magnets allows his engine to harness and amplify that already existing magnetic energy.
WHEN IS A PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE NOT A PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE?
Hojo theorized that he could reap the benefits of a perpetual motion machine by designing a motor which was a quasi perpetual motion machine. Once spinning, it could gain access to existing magnetic energy CURRENTLY ALREADY EXISTING IN THEORY AROUND HIS ENGINE, by placing magnets in the cone of his machine. Thus those already large magnets would receive additional magnetic charge which would be amplified and then bled off and altered into electric current to help run his engine.
Sorry, I don't see his theory as a farce or a hoax. To me, it is a theory which probably will not work but does have a finite chance of working. No one on the thread agreed with me, I was clobbered repeatedly as a perpetual motion machine kook for even bringing up the subject.
ON THE PHIL SPICKLER VIDEO
I had watched the video before. As with all Spickler videos taken by Tatyana, it was very well done and Phil makes a lot of sense. IMHO, Phil comes off looking like a genius while LRH comes off at first looking good but in the final analysis ends up looking very tarnished.
If mankind lived but once, Clear seemed very easy to define. A person's very first engram would be called Basic-Basic and once that first engram was spotted and run out, all of a person's other engrams, secondary engrams and locks would also vanish since Basic Basic was the first incident on all chains. If this was the case, Hubbard's first definition for Clear needed only to be, "a person who has contacted and run out Basic-Basic". Life would have been simple for Hubbard and Dianetics would have continued to grow.
Hubbard quickly abandoned this approach some time in 1951 with his publication of the book, "Science of Survival". We humans had all lived countless lifetimes and Basic-Basic did not exist in this current life for anyone. Going Clear was de-emphasized for a time and in its place, going OT became the rage.
I like what Spickler says about the state of OT. In early Hubbard speak, it meant only that a person was as OT as he was able to get things done. This concept quickly morphed into not simply getting things done for one's self and his family and friends but for getting things done which Hubbard wanted done. Here again, if Hubbard's early definition would have been retained, Scientology would have probably continued to grow without nearly as much trouble as it actually experienced after the definition of OT was repeatedly changed.
Here again Hubbard tended to do things only insofar as they benefitted him. Anyone with any kind of training in math or logic could see that Hubbard was not always being logical or making sense.
LOGICAL AND ILLOGICAL - HUBBARD DEFINITIONS TAILORED TO SUIT HIS SITUATIONS AND HIS NEEDS.
Hubbard declared that a being was as OT as he could get things done. The supreme test of a Thetan was to make things go right. There were no qualifiers put on this statement. One either made things go right or he didn't, if he did, he was OT, to that extent, and if he didn't he was not OT. Simple, right? No problems, right? I SAY THIS IS WRONG, IN FACT PARTS OF IT ARE VERY WRONG!!
Citing my own personal experience briefly, I will mention again the two job assignments Hubbard gave me on the Apollo. First was Purchasing Officer where I was to call around on the phone in Portugal to get 3 price quotes on each item which the Apollo wanted to purchase, even though I spoke no Portugese, . Second, was to be CCLA Programs Chief and do Data Evaluation having to do with CCLA without ever having done the Data Evaluators' Course. A 3rd item was that neither of those two posts had a Hat Write up done for them. So you see, that a person was simply expected to be OT and make it go right, even with no training for the post and no Hat Write up! Lazy assed Hubbard was willing to sacrifice people's lives and careers by fiddle farting around experimenting with the lives of many of his most ardent followers, as I once was.
Now, here is where his illogic and inconsistencies raise their ugly heads. At least, if he was doing to be a loony bird, he should have been CONSISTENT in his actions. If he was going to throw someone onto a high level post without any training or any hat write up, at least be consistent about doing that!! The truth of the matter was that he was only consistent when it benefited him and/or his image. If the life of one of his staff was on the line, he threw being consistent to the breeze and did whatever the hell he felt like.
Thus, guys such as myself were thrown to the wolves. Prove you are causative, make it go right! You have no training in your job area and no hat write, show us what you've got, succeed without training or a hatting, show me that you are OT. Meanwhile, most of the others in you area are in fear and trying to make it go right themselves, so the new guy with no training is the perfect fall guy to blame when things go wrong, as they must, in this infantile type of corporate structure. No matter what the new guy does, he is going to end up taking the fall for the other staff in his area.
WHERE IS THE INCONSISTENCY?
The inconsistency lies in Hubbard only going half way with his make it go right shit. When his own reputation and his income lines are being impacted he won't let anyone on post without extensive training and hatting. Class VIII auditor, A year on full time study and extensive hatting and a thorough hat write up are mandatory before a Class VIII auditor is allowed to give their first session. For Class XII, even more training and hatting is required. Even posting someone to the lowly Treasury division required extensive post training and hatting and required a full hat pack be given to all treasury personal.
Hubbard picked and chose which areas were to be manned by hatted and trained personnel and which weren't. The odds were that if it had to do with Money, Public Relations and Tech or Quality Control, Hubbard demanded full training and hatting. His policies said that this was to be the case for all hats on an org board but in areas which he controlled personally, he often did not follow his own policies in areas other than those 4 which I just mentioned.
I had this knowledge to some degree, even back in 1973 and when I was comm eved for messing up on my post of CCLA Programs Chief, it was easy for me to win my argument against the execs who were on my comm ev committee. I won my argument with ease but it was preordained that I be off loaded and also I wanted to be off loaded and go home so I had to be found guilty. Nevertheless, here is how the Comm Ev went. The Committee spokesperson said that I allowed my zone or area to collapse. I countered that I was a brand new trainee with no hatting or training in the area. They countered that an S.O. member had the responsibility to make things go right, regardless of training or hatting. I answered, "Oh really, then why is a Class XIII auditor forced to undergo a year of full time training, interne under an expert and then be checked out on their Hat Pack before they audit?
This question caused all committee members to freeeze up. Not one of them had any reply to my questioned. Finally after 6 or 7 seconds of silence a committee member said, "He's just nattering, let's hurry up and find him guilty and get out of here. I have to be at an exec meeting in 15 minutes. With that, I was found guilty. The next day around 1:00 PM I was on a plane heading home, both very happy to start a new career with my father at Lakewood Builders but sad to leave the S.O. in a disgraceful manner.
