He says: ''hellooooooooooooooooooooo ?????'''
Like in pot call kettle :hysterical:

the clown shall do that in his mirror :melodramatic:

Appears to me as a mimicry of LRH lecturing!

the vid show an opening window with a quote about ''comm lag''...It just made me wognite about the issue of comm lag in $cientology...

Com lag shall not take place in any process, studying, learning, responding, decision taking or whatever..because a com lag is a natural process of the mind to get an information , analyse it and process it to adapt desicion or behavior process...it's about critical thinking ..exactly what $cientology is suppressing, using mind manipulation, in order to get people implanted without taking time to reflect on data and processes presented so they agree or disagree, it has a value or not, or is a non-sense or not.

Well done LRH!

Thank you for the link!

I think you might be onto something with your comments about a comm lag. Of course, in some areas of life, there should be no comm lag, i.e., driving a car and responding to potentially harmful actions of a car in front of you or alongside of you. Probably I pilot should react without a com lag in potentially dangerous situations. One would hope that to attain a short com lag for certain skills, necessary to drive or do one's job, a person would practice doing drills so as to minimize his or her comm lag.

However, say in some other critical areas of life, i.e. in doing the work of a trial lawyer, a surgeon, a doctor treating cancer, a judge, or a CEO, or lessor executive, one should not act with instant reflexes. Usually to adapt decisions to problems or do the type of jobs which I listed above, critical thinking skills are required and it is necessary for someone doing those types of jobs to use critical thinking skills to work out optimum results. I would agree with you that Scientology suppresses critical thinking skills in all of these areas.

Their mantra is that LRH has worked out all the answers so you must instantly know LRH's solutions without a com lag and apply them instantly without a com lag. Clearly anyone operating in various fields such as those I mentioned above will end up in very bad shape by doing what Scientology mandates rather than by applying critical thinking skills.

A thought 'system' is a toothpick, a sand grain. It is only snapshot, a second.

Nature exceeds our comprehension. Watch the scene in Interstellar on the planet where waves are beyond any concept, of even a tsunami wave. Nature cannot be calculated, is not limited to human reason or local conditions of a 'planet'.

Scn is just like the thought of ants trying to arrange their cave tunnels, small, local and passing, then giving a little PowerPoint of how it all 'works'. Ant tech! All thought systems want to get something over on nature. Hilarious.

This is a cosmos and a mystery. A beautiful mystery. It is funny to want to master it, want to clarify it, a symptom of fear. Because in nature nothing is set; a thought system has a limit. Mastery fears limit; it wants 'do as thou wilt'.

The only solvent is love and family, the rest is a cruel joke. The horse head nebula is a lovely trope.... Of love and mystery, the natural place in things of what is unknown and which humans may not ever know..... But we can surrender to the beauty of reality. And we can know love. There is nothing to handle. We are immersed in beauty and the real. We have it and therefore don't need to attain it or to be saved.

Interstellar was a story of how technology saves. We want so much to believe in a 'tech'. The 'they'. Scientology is a story of salvation too. A story of saving the world.

Maria, of course, I agree with some of your basic points here such as the only solvent is love and family. I don't agree fully, however, with taking the viewpoint that human life is some sort of toothpick as opposed to nature.

The human game can be conceived of as grand and limitless or it can be conceived of as tiny. What it really is what individuals conceive it to be. Take, for example your statement that the only solvent is love and family; the rest is a cruel joke. Well, we can go further with that way of thinking. If human life is really insignificant in terms of nature and parallels closely the life of an ant colony, why make the exceptions having to do with love and family? What is to stop us from declaring that life and family are just part of the joke of life and that they are also non important? If you are going to head in that direction, why not go all the way? Why make exceptions?

I will make a couple of points, No matter how powerful a tsunami or a giant Earthquake is, why would it be an important event if there were no humans around to see it or be killed by it. Even now, as I write, huge nuclear explosions are taking place on our Sun, much larger in force than any powerful tsunami or earthquake on any planet. It is not the size of physical force which determines its importance. The Big Bang explosion, undoubtedly was the greatest and most powerful explosion ever to occur in our Universe and yet it was not considered important until life came along and declared it important. Enormous explosions on the Sun are of no importance to us when they occur. Maybe if they did not occur on schedule they might be important because that might negatively effect human life. So, for we humans, things are only important if they impact us, if they don't impact us they have no meaning to us.

Two galaxies can be colliding right now, a billion light years away. The tidal forces may be beyond our comprehension but if we read about this, we just yawn because it has no effect on our lives here on Earth.

My next point is that mankind leads a better life when people know they have a user's manual available to them which gives them theoretical and practical understanding of whatever games they are playing, be it a business, a relationship, the raising of children, the raising of pets or the understanding of any subject. We seem to be living here on Earth without having any choice in the manner. Since we are here living, whether we like it or not, why not attempt to get as good as possible a user's manual for the various major things which we do?

Also, I would not underestimate the ingenuity of mankind and the human race. In Lincoln's time we had two tech items in our arsenal, the Morse telegraph system and the early steam locomotive. Those two things constituted our only two tech breakthroughs having to do with electric current or motors. In only 150 years, we have had Rovers transmitting continual pictures from Mars, giving Martian weather reports and analyzing actual Martian rocks for their mineral composition.

Meanwhile, 30 years ago, people had a cord phone in there house. Calls to foreign countries cost a small fortune. Now we can walk down a street in Denver and be on the phone to someone in Poland and the tech is even there for cameras to present our live pictures to the party on the other line. What will we have in another 150 years?, another 500 years, another 1,000 years, if we don't kill ourselves off by then.

So my point is that we have a choice to take the point of view that we are important in the cosmos and go forward from there or we can decide that we are ants of no real importance and go forward from there.

In making that decision, I would listen to a great peace of music, look at a Van Gogh painting in great detail, see a great movie like Citizen Kane or something equivalent and read a great book. The human mind created all those things. How could we be insignificant if members of our race were able to achieve such beauty? Ants, though ingeniously gifted and even Dolphins cannot create such aesthetic creations.

Re: Perpetual Motion Engine!?

An actual reply to a post of mine instead of a personal attack, that is really refreshing! Thank's a lot for replying Mr. Nobody. Your points are appreciated and well taken.

As I said, I first learned about this at the Indy party two days ago. First of all, Buck, who told me about the engine, is a retired engineer. He worked for Aerojet in 1971 when I met him there. In talking with him Saturday, he told me that he retired after working 28 years at Boeing after leaving Aerojet. He knows a lot about electricity and motors and he believes strongly that the motor is legit.

He urged me to check it out online. I did a cursory check, watching a couple of videos and reading maybe 6 websites, 4 pro engine and 2 which called it a scam.

Call me lazy if you like, but I found it interesting enough to post here on this thread. In lieu of doing further research, I was hoping to get some feedback from the thread, both pro and con, possibly providing some links to good sites to read to find out more. Sadly, I only got attacked personally but now you have given an honest reply which is really appreciated!!

I don't know if you watched the video, but there is little doubt that the generator is completely unplugged and that the drill motor is still running. The camera shows where the plug is and pans around the motor showing it is not connected to any power source. None of those calling the hojo motor a scam even suggest that the trick involves keeping the drill motor secretly connected to a power source.

As far as capacitors are concerned, I don't know too much about them but I do know that they are capable of storing electrical energy. They consist of two plates separated by a dielectric. A voltage differential exists between the two plates and there can be current leakage taking place or perhaps a flow of current.

With the hojo motor driving the drill press motor, one amp of current is drawn with the drill motor rotating at 3,000 rpm and when additional magnets are added to the collar, the rotation speed can be upped by a factor of 5 or 10 and still only one amp of current is drawn. If capacitor discharge were responsible for the additional power to rev up the drill motor, the current measured would not stay at one amp.

Therefore, as Baker suggested and as the video also suggests, it is the magnets added to the collar surrounding the hojo motor which cause it to be able to rev up the drill motor. The video pointed out that the magnets have to be placed facing down towards the motors, increasing the strength of the magnetic field surrounding the motor; if placed the other way, the drill motor would not rotate faster. Capacitors do not appear to play a part in this.

I appreciate your post Mr. Nobody but if it were as simple as adding a few capacitors to a motor then Toyota, Chevy, Nissan, Fisker and the other electric car makers could simply add a few capacitors to their engines and do away with their heavy and costly battery packs and with enough capacitors added, the puny range of 75 miles for the Chevy Volt or 35 miles for the Nissan Leaf could be jacked up to 350 to 400 miles which would make electric cars much more viable.

I believe that at the least, Howard Johnson put some sort of principle into operation where magnets can increase electrical power and cause electrical motors to keep operating for extended periods of time without being connected to a source of power such as an outlet. a battery pack or a generator. What remains to be seen is whether HoJo's principle has any potential for being put to use commercially. Can his motor be used in lieu of battery packs. Can his motor be engineered for auto or home use at reasonable cost? What type of pollutants are produced? How big would the magnets have to be to do the job for a house or a car? These are some of the questions raised or the whole motor could be a complete hoax and have absolutely no worth. I don't know yet. I would really like to read a convincing article detailing why the motor is scam and a hoax or better yet, see objective proof that the motor is for real and will change the planet for the better.

Mr. Nobody, I really like your post and perhaps you are right that I am finding significance in topics where there is none but I respectfully feel that you should provide more data to debunk the motor as a hoax than what you have provided.

Just suggesting that a hidden plug was still powering the hojo engine or that the existence of capacitors explains away the claims made by the engine's promoters is much too little to fully debunk the motor. Even so, I thank you once more for your fine reply.

Sorry to dredge up old posts as I catch up on the thread. Just wanted to say Lakey that the possibility of a perpetual motion machine was precisely what was obviated by the first law of thermodynamics...so....if this you were writing about holds up it could point to exceptions in the first law.

Hi Maria, I remember writing about a certain type engine on this thread around 3 or so years ago. I believe it was late 2011 or early 2012 as near as I can remember. I kept stating over and over that it was not a perpetual motion machine. I kept asserting that it was not a perpetual motion machine and that I believed that a true perpetual motion machine was not possible to construct in this universe.

As I recall this motor, you had to plug it into a current source and get it up to 8,000 to 10,000 rpm using an outside current source such as a wall plug. However once you got it up to this speed it would keep running indefinitely and it would be able to increase its rpm's higher than 10,000 even when you unplugged it from its power source.

Thus after being started with electric current from a plug, this engine seemed to turn into a perpetual motion machine but the article on how the engine worked claimed that in the 8,000 to 10,000 rpm range the coil inside the engine rotating at that high of a speed set up a magnetic field around the engine and the magnetic field could be accessed by placing magnets in the nose cone of the engine and doing that created a second power source which would keep the rotor spinning at even higher rpm even when the power cord was removed. To illustrate his point, the inventor of the motor would unplug the cord and the motor would keep runing indefinitely at full speed and even increase its speed in rpm.

I remember 3 people who were attacking me on that. There was Roger B, Mark A Baker, and Auditor's Toad. They all classified me as a gullible nut job for believing in a perpetual motion machine. No matter how hard I protested that I did not believe in perpetual motion machines. none of the three gentlemen would stop slamming me.

I had put several posts up describing this engine. There was even an effort being made at the time to design a version of this engine to be used in electric cars. I thought the topic was interesting and wanted to hear their comments on it pro and con. I expected that most comments would be negative but I did not expect myself to be attacked for being gullible enough to fall for a perpetual motion machine scam. The outcry of the the 3 guys was so strong that I decided to end talking about that subject and instead I decided to move on to other topics.

Maria, is the the point on the thread which you are reading now? If so, I would like to go back and reread those posts and watch those videos again.

Thanks Maria, for finding the post which i wrote on the Hojo motor. Looking at my post from today's perspective, I think it is an excellent post. I was really surprised that no one took it seriously.

It's late now, 12:30 AM PST so i'm going to bed. I am going to do so more reading on this motor tomorrow. It's been about 3 years since I wrote about it. With the passage of 3 years, certainly if it was a total hoax, that should be revealed by now and if it had any merit and could be developed further, that should be proven by know. Hopefully, It will be relatively easy to ascertain the current status of the motor.

No not on a current thread, I was just reading old Apollo posts and saw that. Now I understand. It did not violate the law of conservation because it needed the initial jump. After that it recycled. I assume that eventually it would leak and need a refill. While I wrote on my blog of the case of God and ex nihilo creation - on earth by humans we cannot violate the laws of thermodynamics....so I like Phil spickler's explanation of what an old time view of OT was since it was not cause over matter energy etc. I posted that to a thread yesterday. The laws of thermodynamics apply to closed systems. If emf is being imparted by an external magnet system, the system is not closed. Having said that, I don't know if a second set of magnets could do that. Induction of current creates heat at the least, increasing entropy. Not knowing anything about it, I view it like cold fusion, if you remember that fiasco. Pipe dream. And, as we all know from my sig icon, I know a little about pipe dreams as well as physics.

The laws of thermodynamics are thrown about quite casually by people who don't know shit (not you Lakey, I know you know). Thermodynamics is literally the study of the motion of heat. It is a subset of the study of energy in general. It is not as all encompassing as fundies think it is. Thermo is a 1-2 semester course in lower division physics. Quite a way from quantum weirdness and bosons and such. E=MC(2) is far more encompassing and is the real reason perpetual motion is impossible.:bong:

On the perpetual motion machine, I don't believe that to be classed as a perpetual motion engine, an engine would have to be self starting. It is presumed that its first start would be assisted by an outside source but from then on, it would run for ever without any additional energy being applied.

Howard Johnson , a different Hojo than the one who founded a large Motel chain in the eastern USA, claimed that once his hojo engine was started by an external force and got up to a certain rpm level, around 3,000 and not 8 to 10 thousand as I said yesterday, his running engine would, as one of its by products, amplify the magnetic field in the space surrounding his engine into a larger magnetic field.

From that point, he makes his quantum leap out into never-never land. He suggests that by strategically placing strong magnets in the nozzle area of his engine, those magnets will be able to acquire more magnetic force than they started out with and this additional magnetic force can be converted to electricity by his engine and thus keep his engine running.indefinitely once its plug has been pulled. Clearly, Hojo, who died in 1979, thought outside the box but there is nothing wrong with doing that. Virtually all great breakthroughs result from doing that.

Thus the hojo engine might be described as not a pure perpetual motion engine because there is a secondary power source created when the engine is given a jump start. However, hojo was hoping that the secondary power source created by his engine would supply more than enough power to keep his engine spinning. In other words, the secondary power it created would be more than sufficient to overcome the internally generated friction and leakage present within his engine. For this to happen, one has to think that there is already a magnetic field in the air surrounding his engine and by placing magnets in the nozzle of his engine, those magnets allows his engine to harness and amplify that already existing magnetic energy.

WHEN IS A PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE NOT A PERPETUAL MOTION MACHINE?
Hojo theorized that he could reap the benefits of a perpetual motion machine by designing a motor which was a quasi perpetual motion machine. Once spinning, it could gain access to existing magnetic energy CURRENTLY ALREADY EXISTING IN THEORY AROUND HIS ENGINE, by placing magnets in the cone of his machine. Thus those already large magnets would receive additional magnetic charge which would be amplified and then bled off and altered into electric current to help run his engine.

Sorry, I don't see his theory as a farce or a hoax. To me, it is a theory which probably will not work but does have a finite chance of working. No one on the thread agreed with me, I was clobbered repeatedly as a perpetual motion machine kook for even bringing up the subject.

ON THE PHIL SPICKLER VIDEO
I had watched the video before. As with all Spickler videos taken by Tatyana, it was very well done and Phil makes a lot of sense. IMHO, Phil comes off looking like a genius while LRH comes off at first looking good but in the final analysis ends up looking very tarnished.

If mankind lived but once, Clear seemed very easy to define. A person's very first engram would be called Basic-Basic and once that first engram was spotted and run out, all of a person's other engrams, secondary engrams and locks would also vanish since Basic Basic was the first incident on all chains. If this was the case, Hubbard's first definition for Clear needed only to be, "a person who has contacted and run out Basic-Basic". Life would have been simple for Hubbard and Dianetics would have continued to grow.

Hubbard quickly abandoned this approach some time in 1951 with his publication of the book, "Science of Survival". We humans had all lived countless lifetimes and Basic-Basic did not exist in this current life for anyone. Going Clear was de-emphasized for a time and in its place, going OT became the rage.

I like what Spickler says about the state of OT. In early Hubbard speak, it meant only that a person was as OT as he was able to get things done. This concept quickly morphed into not simply getting things done for one's self and his family and friends but for getting things done which Hubbard wanted done. Here again, if Hubbard's early definition would have been retained, Scientology would have probably continued to grow without nearly as much trouble as it actually experienced after the definition of OT was repeatedly changed.

Here again Hubbard tended to do things only insofar as they benefitted him. Anyone with any kind of training in math or logic could see that Hubbard was not always being logical or making sense.

LOGICAL AND ILLOGICAL - HUBBARD DEFINITIONS TAILORED TO SUIT HIS SITUATIONS AND HIS NEEDS.
Hubbard declared that a being was as OT as he could get things done. The supreme test of a Thetan was to make things go right. There were no qualifiers put on this statement. One either made things go right or he didn't, if he did, he was OT, to that extent, and if he didn't he was not OT. Simple, right? No problems, right? I SAY THIS IS WRONG, IN FACT PARTS OF IT ARE VERY WRONG!!

Citing my own personal experience briefly, I will mention again the two job assignments Hubbard gave me on the Apollo. First was Purchasing Officer where I was to call around on the phone in Portugal to get 3 price quotes on each item which the Apollo wanted to purchase, even though I spoke no Portugese, . Second, was to be CCLA Programs Chief and do Data Evaluation having to do with CCLA without ever having done the Data Evaluators' Course. A 3rd item was that neither of those two posts had a Hat Write up done for them. So you see, that a person was simply expected to be OT and make it go right, even with no training for the post and no Hat Write up! Lazy assed Hubbard was willing to sacrifice people's lives and careers by fiddle farting around experimenting with the lives of many of his most ardent followers, as I once was.

Now, here is where his illogic and inconsistencies raise their ugly heads. At least, if he was doing to be a loony bird, he should have been CONSISTENT in his actions. If he was going to throw someone onto a high level post without any training or any hat write up, at least be consistent about doing that!! The truth of the matter was that he was only consistent when it benefited him and/or his image. If the life of one of his staff was on the line, he threw being consistent to the breeze and did whatever the hell he felt like.

Thus, guys such as myself were thrown to the wolves. Prove you are causative, make it go right! You have no training in your job area and no hat write, show us what you've got, succeed without training or a hatting, show me that you are OT. Meanwhile, most of the others in you area are in fear and trying to make it go right themselves, so the new guy with no training is the perfect fall guy to blame when things go wrong, as they must, in this infantile type of corporate structure. No matter what the new guy does, he is going to end up taking the fall for the other staff in his area.

WHERE IS THE INCONSISTENCY?
The inconsistency lies in Hubbard only going half way with his make it go right shit. When his own reputation and his income lines are being impacted he won't let anyone on post without extensive training and hatting. Class VIII auditor, A year on full time study and extensive hatting and a thorough hat write up are mandatory before a Class VIII auditor is allowed to give their first session. For Class XII, even more training and hatting is required. Even posting someone to the lowly Treasury division required extensive post training and hatting and required a full hat pack be given to all treasury personal.

Hubbard picked and chose which areas were to be manned by hatted and trained personnel and which weren't. The odds were that if it had to do with Money, Public Relations and Tech or Quality Control, Hubbard demanded full training and hatting. His policies said that this was to be the case for all hats on an org board but in areas which he controlled personally, he often did not follow his own policies in areas other than those 4 which I just mentioned.

I had this knowledge to some degree, even back in 1973 and when I was comm eved for messing up on my post of CCLA Programs Chief, it was easy for me to win my argument against the execs who were on my comm ev committee. I won my argument with ease but it was preordained that I be off loaded and also I wanted to be off loaded and go home so I had to be found guilty. Nevertheless, here is how the Comm Ev went. The Committee spokesperson said that I allowed my zone or area to collapse. I countered that I was a brand new trainee with no hatting or training in the area. They countered that an S.O. member had the responsibility to make things go right, regardless of training or hatting. I answered, "Oh really, then why is a Class XIII auditor forced to undergo a year of full time training, interne under an expert and then be checked out on their Hat Pack before they audit?

This question caused all committee members to freeeze up. Not one of them had any reply to my questioned. Finally after 6 or 7 seconds of silence a committee member said, "He's just nattering, let's hurry up and find him guilty and get out of here. I have to be at an exec meeting in 15 minutes. With that, I was found guilty. The next day around 1:00 PM I was on a plane heading home, both very happy to start a new career with my father at Lakewood Builders but sad to leave the S.O. in a disgraceful manner.

There is no time.

There is no time. I have spent countless hours discussing this with a physicist who lived next door. Search Google for time and Einstein and see. Here I only provide 2 links. The reason this is significant is that it means that the very concept of earlier incidents reinforces an illusion, fills an anthropomorphic need but relies on absolute or Newtonian early modern views of time thus fails to see that time is nothing other than a symptom of movement in space as this is deformed by gravity. Such that if you live in high desert you will live a half second longer per year due to the relation to gravitational forces. Space and gravity - that is all.

If einstein and godel are correct, and I think they are, then what we have is space and the speed of travel in relation to location/mass. There is no time except in the sense that we interpret change and movement. Everything is here. Space-time is one thing, not space and time as separate things. Time is but an abstraction of thought (what thought can make of space and its deformations due to gravity) since the mind is limited and can't think in 5 dimensions. If processes worked, if, the trick would be moving to the event (at the speed of light?) not running it out. This in a way is an objective procedure/process. Lol.

In that sense objectives and emptying the mind is better than pursuing the illusion of inner time as reactive mind. The incident to be run that was 50m ago can actually be happening tomorrow if indeed the soul is transcendentally outside of time-space or else moving at light speed. In the case of the first, of soul outside of time-space, if one accepts transcendental objects.

This may be a reason why objectives would be prominent in OT levels (as a way to break the newtonian illusion of absolute or linear time). But this is not why Scn promotes objectives, or even a logic they recognize. In my opinion objectives are still a weak drill for opening the gates of metaphysical operation for a soul. If that is the goal they do not go far enough. I do know why they work. I doubt the answer would be liked. There are only six ways to change locations per ancient shamans quantumly; not that these 6 are scientifically recognized. Objectives do lightly touch on one. DM is the master of one other way. So was Hubbard. I spoke to my physicist neighbor a lot about this idea of time travel (return). It is a topic of physics in some circles, quantum tunneling -- but not in regards metaphysical applications (soul) which are purely speculative.

A good read is Einsteins train book of, I think, 1916. (Too basic for some of you here). http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Relativity_of_simultaneity

Another consequence of these developments in physics and this problem of time: if there is no time everything is here. The locations. The events.

oh and per the physics seen through the Shaman you would never stop at a win. A win kills the time travel or otness and returns one to the pablum view of time, and reinforces it. So breaking someone by grinding on objectives is closer to the truth. (Although it would not be my go-to suggestion on how to do things).

yes I am writing a book of this, the metaphysics. It has to do with my own 'traveling' experiences and not science; I am a philosopher not scientist. Thus it is speculative and further draws zero from scn or Dianetics and has no criticism of them, just is my own reading of how stuff might really work based on my own understanding of philosophy and physics. At some point I hope to vet whatever I come up with and write with a working physicist. It is a work of fictional imagination. I am a literary not scientific thinker. Philip K Dick is an inspiration there. It will not be science but fun I hope. I only talk about how this shaman stuff and physics might relate to scn, try to connect these disparate thought systems, because this place has exes (who may view world, these time-space coordinates, via Scn concepts).

Re: Perpetual Motion Engine!?

I would love to hear from you on the impossibility of perpetual motion due to e=mc(2).

Just to be clear - I don't consider running pcs into the ground a positive or beneficial idea.

The system completely gives in to entropy eventually. Energy and mass will balance and no work can occur. No motion. Because of the C(2) factor, the harder you try, the faster it happens.

Whoa. Einstein and Goedel are way out of my league. Goedel knocked it out of the park with his Incompleteness Theorem, but Maria, keep in mind that it is this very theorem that "proves" (in a mathematical sense) that there are higher, more senior physical "laws" by the fact that our highest systems of understanding - like math - contain within them flaws at the most basic levels which would only become more pronounced at higher levels. In other words, mathematics cannot find a higher truth than itself because mathematics itself as a system contains errors.

In other words, only a higher science - a higher truth than one of our current sciences encompasses, would be able to find error in our mathematics and therefore central rules to the universe.

It's a Catch-22 of sorts and Goedel went quite insane trying to figure it out.

Einstein didn't fare much better.

I don't spend my time wondering when the best minds the world has known have not been able to do so without becoming so lost in the abstract that they lost touch. I see what you're saying, but ouch my brain! :coolwink: lol

Maria would probably answer this better than I could, but my understanding of Godel isn't so much that mathematics will always contain errors, but that some things in mathematics will always remain mysteries; i.e. no matter which axioms you start from, there will always be propositions within the mathematical system defined by those axioms whose truth will be undecidable.

If you're interested in Godel, btw, there's a bit about him in Rudy Rucker's "Infinity and the Mind" (Rucker knew Godel, at least slightly).

Re: The old days - Aboard the Apollo - 1973

I'm referring to Godel's Incompleteness Theorems, CS.

Gödel's incompleteness theorems are two theorems of mathematical logic that establish inherent limitations of all but the most trivial axiomatic systems capable of doing arithmetic. The theorems, proven by Kurt Gödel in 1931, are important both in mathematical logic and in the philosophy of mathematics. The two results are widely, but not universally, interpreted as showing that Hilbert's program to find a complete and consistent set of axioms for all mathematics is impossible, giving a negative answer to Hilbert's second problem.
The first incompleteness theorem states that no consistent system of axioms whose theorems can be listed by an "effective procedure" (e.g., a computer program, but it could be any sort of algorithm) is capable of proving all truths about the relations of the natural numbers (arithmetic). For any such system, there will always be statements about the natural numbers that are true, but that are unprovable within the system. The second incompleteness theorem, an extension of the first, shows that such a system cannot demonstrate its own consistency.

I spent months understanding it, because another ex said it was Goedel's Incompleteness Theorem that got him out of Scn. From this, the ex concluded that Scientology could not be a basic truth and left. Understanding Goedel's logic (but not his math - that was over my head) was the most difficult brain task I've undertaken in years but it was worth it. I won't delve further into it, though, except to mention that there is much more to this than you think.
