Did anyone aboard the Apollo come to realize that Hubbard had fabricated his biography and credentials? Did anyone discover his connection with Aleister Crowley or Jack Parsons and their occult/black magick rituals?

It was before the Information Age. Only a small handful of people new that stuff (like Nibs) and they weren't talking or were muzzled. El Ron made a few references...very benign re: Crowley, Parsons, et al but that was old tapes like the PDC and back then very few Scios had heard them and they were expensive and on reel to reel tapes. The only way to publish anything was Books or Mags and the market was very selective about what it was going to publish. There was no cable TV. Research for a book was times multiple more difficult than it is today. The Armstrong’s, Corydon’s Lerma’s, Kima’s, Hana’s, RVY’s, Mayo’s etc, etc. (brave and good folks all) hadn’t happened yet. The world of information was very different and sparse then—compared to today. People didn’t have the discretionary income and “personal” time they have today.

In the old days disaffecteds could by “hunted and taken out with a scoped rifle”. After the “Exodus” of the early ‘80’s there wasn’t enough bullets and soldiers to kill ‘em all off and after the Dawn of the Internet there’s nothing left to shoot at but cyber space and bytes in the ether.

Suggestion for Carmelo's daughter

Back when our youngest daughter was a Girl Scout, she got my help selling Girl Scout cookies. I dialed the number of the AM / morning DJ, who we listened to. He broadcast on the "World's Greatest Radio Station." I had been listening to him since I was 12. He was known as "The Emperor." Our daughter got on the phone with him for a few mornings running. She was cute and the two of them were funny. She gave out our phone number over the air. She sold hundreds of boxes of Girl Scout cookies all over the Bay Area. We drove all over the Bay Area delivering cookies.

Now she's in grad school taking a class in social entrepreneurship. She has chosen to work with a struggling start up that can manufacture high performance prosthetic knees for twenty bucks. the guys, who have invented this are geeks. They haven't gotten funding for their company despite Time Magazine naming their invention as one of the most important inventions of the year. So here I am helping my daughter again.

Remember when you sold cookies for your daughter at the office. That is pretty much what I'm doing.

This is the e mail she sent me:

<begin quote>******

This is the company I want to make happen- Re:Motion Designs- these engineers built a $20 high performance prosthetic knee. The next best thing is in the thousands of dollars. They are being held up in manufacturing because they need $25k to pay for it- and then they can outfit the next batch of them in India & Haiti.

Check out their website: www.remotiondesigns.org

I've created the scope of our class project as follows:
The following information should be covered in one page of your proposal:
The mission and objectives of the organization
Your articulated theory for social change. Explain how your organization will improve on existing efforts and how your approach is systemic and unique. Be sure to describe existing programs and how yours will differ.

The following information should be covered in two additional pages of your proposal:
A description of the organization's program design and implementation plan for its first three years.
An indication of the organization's tangible results to date, as well as an explanation of how you plan to measure organizational outcomes and success in the future.
An explanation of how the organization will reach national or global scale.
An explanation of the main sources of financial support that your organization will use to sustain your work over time.

And it just so happens that these are the same questions we need to answer in order to start going after funding.

<end quote>****

so if any of you have any thoughts on how to get funding for her start up, please send suggestions.

Once they have manufacturing capacity, they can sell these knees to NGOs (Non Governmental Organizations) like the Red Cross. It will be a god send to people where massive tragedies occur (like Haiti, Chinese earthquakes, etc)

Isn't this better than sending money to some cult?

Carmelo, years ago, my parents had a very successful company which they sold because my father wanted to retire. A couple of years later the people who bought it sold it to another major company who then expanded the company even further to a mulitimillion dollar business, but then after about 10 years they decided to end the business and close it down and use it as a tax write off. Well, this left a lot of distributors with no business because they no longer had any product to sell, therefore, no income, even though the product was still in demand. These people panicked because this was their life work and life income that they had suddenly lost.

Some of the distributors contacted my parents and asked them if they would please go back into business and again and manufacture the products so that these distributors would again have an income.

My parents came up with the idea that if those that wanted to have the product to sell, would buy product in advance to get the manufacturing going, then they could use that money to begin manufacturing the products again. People who were interested bought product, in advance of there even being a company or any manufacturing at all. They raised about $30,000 this way and used it to go into production and gave the people the products that were promised, that they had already purchased. The company was then off and running and continued to grow. Maybe your daughter can look at doing something like this to get her idea going.

Scam Artist!

Swetlana began emailing me last week about coming in to her office for a follow up conference. I responded that I wanted to back out of the deal I had signed and had stopped payment on the $900 check. I wrote further that I would go with her company's program if they would modify their payment plan so that the $4,500 up front fee was collected from the first check I would receive for my first government. She kept insisting that I come in to her office immediately. To her company's credit, they did not try and cash the $900 check I gave them until last Wednesday, about a month after I had been there. I told Svetlana in my email that I had put a stop payment on the check.

Last Friday, Svetlana called me by cell phone for the first time and was very upset with me, she raised her voice a bit and demanded I come in and have a meeting one on one with her. She said her company had put in a lot of time getting me qualified and I was now ready to contract and she had 3 jobs ready for me to bid on and that she could let me look over the jobs, with the contact information blocked out. She started getting a little nasty, saying that we had a contract and that her company had put in a lot of administrative time getting me qualified. I kept reiterating that I would not put $4,500 down up front "sight unseen".

She kept insisting I come there and meet with her so in my typical Lakey fashion, I brought up directly that she was a very attractive woman, and this was being used against me to close me. She asked why I went ahead and signed the contract and left the check instead of refusing to sign when I was there. I accepted responsibility and said that I was wrong in signing because I was dead set against paying $4,500 down. She wailed about all the work her company had put in and did not even get their $900. I said that if they would mail me a bill documenting their out of pocket costs and the hours they had spent qualifying me, I would pay the $900 if the bill looked legitimate. I then brought up that I had gone to her web site and the only experience shown there was in acting and modeling and that this was all in Estonia and Lithuania. She asked what the point was in looking at this information. I just said that it showed no background in business. She said her background in business was none of my business. I had bought her company, not her. We left it that she would call me on Tuesday and really needed me to come in.

Yesterday she called but I was busy with a client and let it go to voice mail. In checking the message later, Svetlana had said that due to my erratic behavior and not sticking to my contract, her company had selected someone else in place of me. I had been disqualified and to just forget about it as they now had another contractor from my area who started yesterday.

SUMMARY - I did not handle this correctly, I should not have signed or left a check on the first visit. I thought that it sounded good and did not want to risk losing business opportunity so I signed as a stall to give me time to check out the company. I took this route and though I got out unharmed financially, it created bad feelings and I did renege on my contract so my hands are dirty. The "reg" cycle they did on me was quite similar to the hard closes done in the C of $. I wanted the product, an endless supply of government jobs, so badly that I kept agreeing to the next step of the "reg" cycle. It is so similar to wanting the promised End Phenomena of the various steps on the C of $ bridge. She was a good sales person, just like the reges in the Orgs. I think her company, knowing that all the contractors will be male, picked an actress / model type for their registrar but in all fairness to Svetlana, she never once flaunted her sex appeal on me or used it in any way. She was all business and did a nice job hard "reging" me. I'll never know 100% if I passed up a great opportunity or was just smart in nipping this in the bud. I got about 10 replies from people when it happened and 10 out of 10 recommended strongly that I pull out.

Wow- are you sure she isn't working for a Scientology front group? Same old hard sell tactics...

I would call the California State Consumer Affairs Dept. for your County and lodge a complaint... also the BBB. :) An honest company won't pressure you into paying upfront for services sight unseen like that. Come to think of it, call the D.A.'s office too.

Good story!

Thanks Ted, that was a good read...many a good yarn has the timetrack messed up, etc. Facey, thanks for the reality check...if you haven't written a book of your experiences while "in", you should consider it...

Welcome Ex Kane....makes me think of Caine mutiny...(frankly the Sea Org really needed a good mutiny!) Kane is man in Hawaiian...:whistling: I trust you are not an ex man, but it's o.k. if you are, we are inclusive and we welcome all types here on the Aboard the Apollo thread! Welcome Exie! :)

Sweetness, I would not call the BBB on them. They did a standard sales pitch, stressing all the benifits and features of their program and then laid all the costs out on the table. I was given an opportunity to say no and walk out without leaving a check. What would I write in my complaint to the BBB or some other agency? Saying the sales person was a nice looking person of the opposite sex and was a strong and effectve closer does not show that they did anything wrong. They did absolutely nothing illegal. Sure, it is pushy to ask $4.500 up front and $900 of that down the first day but only if and when they failed to deliver me any product for my $4,500 would I be justtified in filing any sort of formal complaint.

The 1960s = Change + more truth

OOOOOOO…THE TOP 20 TUNES for the YEAR (drum roll) 1964!!!

1. I WANT TO HOLD YOUR HAND/The Beatles — the song that started BEATLEMANIA

2. CAN’T BUY ME LOVE/The Beatles — to anticipate demand, 2 million copies ordered in advance of release!! That was a new all-time record!!

3. THERE! I’VE SAID IT AGAIN/Bobby Vinton – last American #1 song before the Beatles hit the U.S.

4. BABY LOVE/The Supremes — their biggest hit

5. HOUSE OF THE RISING SUN/The Animals –their first U.S. hit

6. PRETTY WOMAN/Roy Orbison — his biggest hit

7. CHAPEL OF LOVE/The Dixie Cups

8. I FEEL FINE/The Beatles

9. SHE LOVES YOU/The Beatles

10. I GET AROUND/The Beach Boys — their first #1 national song!

11. COME SEE ABOUT ME/The Supremes — 3rd #1 hit in a row

12. WHERE DID OUR LOVE GO?/The Supremes — summer of ’64; their first #1!

13. DO WAH DIDDY DIDDY/Manfred Mann — first U.S. hit

14. MY GUY/Mary Wells – written by Smokey Robinson

15. A HARD DAY’S NIGHT/The Beatles — the first “title track” from their first movie!

16. RAG DOLL/The 4 Seasons — even though the British had arrived, “the Jersey Boys” kept makin’ hits, though U.S. acts saw their popularity wane during the first few years of “The British Invasion.” ”Dawn” was another big hit for the Seasons this year.

17. HELLO DOLLY!/Louis Armstrong – the great “Satchmo” from the great production of the same name. NOTE: Louis Armstrong’s nickname is short for “Satchelmouth.” This derogatory-sounding moniker was actually a compliment that referred to his generous mouth. Some say his nickname stemmed from his wide, infectious grin, while others state it was a nickname he earned in band class as his cheeks blew up when he played the cornet!

18. MR. LONELY/Bobby Vinton — he had TWO #1 hits in this British Invasion year!

19. EVERYBODY LOVES SOMEBODY/Dean Martin — his first #1 song since 1956! It would be his 2nd and last chart-topper.

20. A WORLD WITHOUT LOVE/Peter and Gordon – their first hit. It was a #1 song written by Paul McCartney as a favour (brit spelling) to Peter, since Paul was dating Peter’s sister Jane at the time.

then came the San Francisco sound

The words to Somebody to Love are just as true today. When the truth is found to be lies, don't you want somebody to love? I know I do. Having people I am connected to, who say I love you, fill me, and keep me going.

"Sugar Sugar" by the Archies - 1969

I heard the song, "Sugar Sugar" by the Archies on oldies radio early this week. It spent several weeks as #1 on the Billboard Lists in both the USA and UK in the autumn of 1969. I love this song and the lyrics are especially cute. I've played it several times on Youtube and now I can't get that song out of my mind. As I'm driving around in my truck I turn off the radio and just sing that song.

Clean Hands Make A Happy Life

It’s time for me to confess and get something off to all of you here…my ESMB friends.

I’ve been reading stuff for months here, everywhere all over the net about the horrible fate that befell El Ron during Hisself's last corporeal years on this Earth. As I have been reading, the weight of my inadvertent complicity Hiself's descent into the depths of madness has gradually, incessantly become more apparent.

You see, my friends, when I was working for El Ron on the Apollo Hisself assigned me a Condition of Confusion once. I’m afraid that El Ron assigned the condition for a supposed very petty transgression I knew was a chickenshit deal and so did everyone else that was “in the know”. My wish to retain my anonymity precludes me from delineating the particulars here but the matter was analogous to; “You did not wash my rubber ducky and so you are assigned Confusion” when, in fact, I had washed Hisself’s rubber ducky and Hisself had played with it and gotten it all dirty again.

Unfortunately, 10 years or so later El Ron was in the process of “Checking out” and I had already exited Stage Left. If I’d have only known of El Ron’s dreadfully distressed and confused state I could have let Hisselfs keepers know that what was wrong with El Ron was that Hisself had “Copped the wrong Condition” that Hisself had assigned to yours truly on the Apollo.

My ESMB and Old Days Aboard The Apollo friends…I prostrate before you, seeking your mercy and absolution.:bigcry:

"Facey", I got what you said and I imagine I speak for most of the readers and particpants of this thread. If it is any consolation to you, I believe most of us have engaged in similar "overts of ommission" against big name Seniors. For me, I accepted a posting from LRH talking on the phone all day in Portugal though I spoke not a word of the language and the post had no hat write up. I then accepted posting as a Programs Chief who was supposed to do Data Evaluations without having done the Data Evaluators course. When I got dismissed from the latter post and was told to stay up all night filing, I was then accused by "Hisself" as having embezzled funds from CCLA Treasury Division. On that one I merely wimpered that I had not done such a thing to his messenger and the messenger came back saying Hisself insisted that I had and I let it drop right there and sunk into apathy.

I should have denied accepting the two postings because of no Hat Write Up. That is what the policies stated to do but how could anyone turn down a direct LRH posting? Also I should have turned both posts down for lack of proper hatting. On the embezzlement charge, I should have raised absolute Hell. I should have yelled to the messenger that whoever told Hubbard that lie is an SP and a 3rd Party and I should have demanded a Commitee of Evidence against the source who gave Hubbard that false information. I may have been off loaded right then and there but I would have retained my full integrity and would have lightened Hubbard's personal case by reducing by three the number of unconfronted overts he was stacking up on his case.

In your case, did the thought ever occur to you to do the Ethical thing to contest the assignment of the incorrect condition rather than just walk through the motions of doing it, hoping that somehow you might have a win doing the wrong formulas?

I remember once reading a passage by Ken Urquhart wherein he stated that he wished he had stood up to Hubbard on one particular occasion where he was the victim of a severe upbraiding by Hubbard for something which he did not do. The interesting thing about his statement was that Urquhart wished he had stood up to Hubbard, not for his sake but rather for Hubbard's sake!! He commented in passing that if a few people had made a stand personally against Hubbard, it may have helped Hubbard to achieve more control over his case and to remain saner in his last years.

I also had the run in with Yvonne Jentzsch similar to yours with Hubbard. My rubber ducky was two rolls of toilet tissue. I had done nothing wrong, absolutely zero, nada. nichts! Another staff member did not open the supply room as was his duty and as a result the 2 CCLA bathrooms had no tissue in the the morning when the Centre opened. For this non trangression in which I did nothing wrong, I was busted and sent to the local Ships for rehabilitation, shunned by Yvonne for over 6 months, denied a promotion to Treasury Sec, denied a promotion to FBO and forced to have an obnoxious, immature unhatted teen age girl as my senior for the next two years. I went along with all of this, never even considering standing up for myself against Yvonne in a Ethics hearing in her Org.

Looking back 37 years to when all these incidents occured, one can see that they have made gains and have grown as a being because if a repeat of anything like this would occur now, I would immediately jump down the throat of the senior who wronged me and demand justice. Back then, I merely acquiesed and had nowhere near what it took to stand up to Hubbard or Yvonne.

What about you, "Facey"? If you had it to do over, knowing what you know now, how would you have handled it then? Also, thank you for returning the thread to subjects connected with its name. I, for one, really appreciate it.

Well facey,

I do believe there's some truth in what you say, however, it is likely you were late on the chain of His-Self-Important-Self.

His mama should have wailed the brat's behind while he was still small enough for her to manage. Correct condition applied, over and done with.

A well know ESMB poster just read this thread for the first time.

We've had most of the higher volume ESMB members either read this thread or post here. Recently Tory/Magoo read and posted for the first time. Please note that Alan Walter read the thread back in March of 2009, when I was writing my Apollo story. He did not read again after March 18, 2009.

Well about 1 hour ago, Gadfly read the thread. As the originator of the thread, I get to see a list of every ESMB member who logs on. Gadfly is very prolific and knows a lot about almost every topic under the Sun. One thing about him, he posts in spurts and after posting heavily for a few weeks, he usually takes off on business or somesuch and doesn't post on ESMB for several months. It appears he is back on ESMB. As co-host, I sent Carmelo a copy of the list about 4-5 weeks ago and we had 433 ESMB viewers listed at that time and today it is up to 481. A person can choose an option to suppress themselves off of the list and many people do so that number is actually much greater than 481.

I very sincerely doubt it, Ted. Given the times & predominant culture of Hubbard's youth it's highly unlikely that he was not regularly subject to corporal punishment to instill "discipline". He was a youth in the mid-west of the u.s. during the early years of the 20th century. That was LONG before the popular movement to end the routine physical abuse of children in the guise of teaching "self-discipline".

Corporal punishment can be argued as having some effectiveness (questionable, but debatable) at "focusing" & "acculturating" the "overly rambunctious" when dealing with an individual who does not suffer from a mental disorder. However, I really do believe that Hubbard most likely suffered from some form(s) of lifelong mental illness. In such instances corporal punishment is much more likely to exacerbate the sort of irrational behaviors a person exhibits in later life, serving much more as a template of acceptable conduct than as a reminder of the possible consequences for "unsocial" behavior.

"You are my candy girrrrl, and you got me wantin' you..."

Good, it is catchy isn't it? I think the basic tune and that little counter rhythm "da de da dum dum" have some musical value. A person with real musical talent, like a Chick Corea, could do even more with that theme than the Archies did.

I went back to Youtube and looked for some other versions. There is a Soul version of it which was played on the TV show "Soul Train" one week when "Sugar Sugar" was number one on the charts. The Soul versioin develops the theme into sort of a Gospel version of the song. It is like a huge chorus with gospel overtones. It shows that the basic theme is more than a simple jingle and has some room for development.

There was also a studio mix where the Archies sing it and some cute teen age girls who look the part, do some cute dancing. The whole motiff of sugar, honey and candy really captures a nice feeling of the time period plus it has the British overtones so popular at the time.

If it looks like a Rubber Ducky, quacks like a Rbber Ducky, smells like a...

Lakey,

Although I was mostly being facetious you did bring up some interesting points.

During your mad hatter days on the Apollo your refusal of a duty, especially an El Ron ordered one, would have done nothing to “help” him and only made things worse for you.

I knew Urq and his lamentations regarding “if I had only said this or that maybe I could have impinged on El Ron” are warming to the hearts of the faithful but bogus to those who have “been there, done that.” There is a litany of Apollo Crew that to a greater or lesser degree “stood up” to El Ron trying to help him—Otto (I knew him, too) is the “poster child” of that group.

The Senior SO management then—and certainly does today—thrived on finding a “Rubber Ducky” whenever it suited them. The CMO especially learned the “Rubber Ducky” tech from Hisself.

As for me, my “Rubber Ducky” came while my stats were in affluence and I had a handful of recent VWD’s and Very Highly Commended’s in my Ethics file from El Ron. It was during one of Hisself’s periods of “bad health” and El Ron was doing the OT thing of taking it out on everyone around him that was trying to help. I ignored the verbal order and let it slide and so did everyone else. El Ron The Infallible forgot Hisself ever said it and it never came up again. Within a month I had another VWD and VHC—go figure.

Some years after this I got shot up pretty good when I stood up—physically and very vocally—to DM and his CMO goons; Obviously, it didn’t help Da Monster--it was a "Rubber Ducky" op when my stats were in long term affluence (power) on a post Hisself had put me on.

Looking back I would not change anything I did; what I did was my path and I embrace my path then, now and all the future "nows".

Thanks for your post—I’ll keep coming back to the subject of this thread as that is what brought me here in the first place.

Old Mother Hubbard

Well facey,

I do believe there's some truth in what you say, however, it is likely you were late on the chain of His-Self-Important-Self.

His mama should have wailed the brat's behind while he was still small enough for her to manage. Correct condition applied, over and done with.

I dunno, Ted….I never knew her. I did know the "real" Commodore, HRH—Harry Ross Hubbard—and it twernt Ole Harry’s fault…he was a thoroughly decent, unassuming and cheerful feller.

I knew a narcissistic young fella years ago. He would give his parents lots of flack and verbal abuse. I was taken back when I first witnessed it; I thought it would get physical. If I had spoken to my parents like he spoke to his I would have been slapped right down, johnny-on-the-spot, instant exteriorization.

Last I heard about this guy he was said to be still an abusive ass, and that was many years later.

As for me, well I am a pretty decent fellow because I did get the tar switched out of me at an early age. Just a couple of times for being anti social is all it took. Ah, the good old days before Dr. Spock. :coolwink:
