As I suspect you well understand Rog, you've been instrumental in helping me sort through some of this. Especially important to me is how you're comments have illustrated just exactly how fortunate I was NOT to attempt "upper levels" under church guidance. I may not have had the full benefits of some of the latest tech developments of which you are aware, but I did manage to bypass much of the worst of evaluative case auditing as it is practiced by the Co$.

Thanks for your insights & friendship. Both are deeply appreciated.

Mark A. Baker

I'm not part of this conversation, but I couldn't help but notice that when the "tech" is described as faulty, that is not heard, but, rather, becomes the "Church" is faulty.

Why not hear what's actually being said and, then, if one disagrees, honestly express that disagreement? Why pretend to hear something else and gloss over the actual issues?

Something similar happened with E-Meters, right!

Yep,

It's true about the Doc Winters and Purcell stuff. LRH lost control of the "Diantetics" name/word.

But look at the insanity/evil of the man, which is highlighted by this event.

Not only did he war against his colleagues, he sought to deny and destroy a workable piece of tech because it was in the hands of others!

It was not until he could control the subject/name again that he told (some of the) the truth about it, and again began to benefit his follows with it!

I mean, look at the evil of that . . . he actually sought to put down a good piece of tech and the good souls making it available to others!

He'd have been smarter to have let the others get on with their thing such that their actions would only have made him more famous as the developer of the tech, which subject he could have honestly said he had further advanced . . . . . but NO . . . the idiot had to start with the "it's very limited and actually only makes nothing of you and the guys now doing it are lobotomisers" shit!!

As I put the pieces together now, I simply see how warped and evil Hubbard was!

Sad, but true.

RogerB

Didin't Mathieson win some sort of copyright battle with LRH over manufacture of the E-meters. At that point, after the meters had been in use and were being spoken highly of for two years or so, LRH withdrew the use of the meters in Scientology auditing and then demeaned their use by saying direct observation of a pc's indicators was far superior to reliance on a mechanical device.

Traveling to England, I believe, he was able to have meters manufactured there without infringing on anyone else's Amercian patents. That is why the meters of the day were prefaced as the British Mark II or the British Mark III. When Mathieson's patents ran out Hubbard then had the British Models manufactured in America with some very slight differences. They were refered to as American meters.

The key here is that when he could not produce his own meters in the U.S., he did not buy them from Mathieson any longer but just told the public meters were no good and direct observation was superior, even though he did not believe this to be true. He was therefore willing to degrade his own tech and lie about it rather than just buy the meters from someone else.

Your last post like the previous one is a tour de force. Your closing statement is difficult for some to deal with. I was helped by Hubbard, initially, and it is hard to turn on someone who helped you a lot, but finally I am being swayed to the viewpoint that Hubbard was extremely evil. When he said that all men would be his slaves in 1947 in his "affirmations". he meant what he said.

Nerf guns

Now just because I have two very nice used Nerf rocket launchers for sale (only used by alpha geeks in a tech cube setting), and armorers have never profited from conflict, I would be willing to let these two masterful weapons of Nerf war go for a measly $125 a piece. What better way to show the world your true colors than a duel at dawn?

Slick Operator: The BP I've known too well

by Greg Palast for Truthout.org
May 5, 2010

I've seen this movie before. In 1989, I was a fraud investigator hired to dig into the cause of the Exxon Valdez disaster. Despite Exxon's name on that boat, I found the party most to blame for the destruction was ... British Petroleum. That's important to know, because the way BP caused devastation in Alaska is exactly the way BP is now sliming the entire Gulf Coast.

Deepwater Horizon in flames before sinking. Photo provided by D.Becnel Tankers run aground, wells blow out, pipes burst. It shouldn't happen but it does. And when it does, the name of the game is containment. Both in Alaska, when the Exxon Valdez grounded, and in the Gulf over a week ago, when the Deepwater Horizon platform blew, it was British Petroleum that was charged with carrying out the Oil Spill Response Plans ("OSRP") which the company itself drafted and filed with the government.

What's so insane, when I look over that sickening slick moving toward the Delta, is that containing spilled oil is really quite simple and easy. And from my investigation, BP has figured out a very low cost way to prepare for this task: BP lies. BP prevaricates, BP fabricates and BP obfuscates.

That's because responding to a spill may be easy and simple, but not at all cheap. And BP is cheap. Deadly cheap.
To contain a spill, the main thing you need is a lot of rubber, long skirts of it called "boom." Quickly surround a spill or leak or burst, then pump it out into skimmers or disperse it, sink it or burn it. Simple.

But there's one thing about the rubber skirts: you've got to have lots of it at the ready, with crews on standby in helicopters and on containment barges ready to roll. They have to be in place round the clock, all the time, just like a fire department; even when all is operating A-OK. Because rapid response is the key. In Alaska, that was BP's job, as principal owner of the pipeline consortium Alyeska. It is, as well, BP's job in the Gulf, as principal lessee of the deepwater oil concession.

Chugach Natives of Alaska clean Exxon Valdez oil off their beach, five years after the spill. 1994©James McAlpine for Palast Fund Before the Exxon Valdez grounding, BP's Alyeska group claimed it had these full-time oil spill response crews. Alyeska had hired Alaskan Natives, trained them to drop from helicopters into the freezing water and set boom in case of emergency. Alyeska also certified in writing that a containment barge with equipment was within five hours sailing of any point in the Prince William Sound. Alyeska also told the state and federal government it had plenty of boom and equipment cached on Bligh Island.

But it was all a lie. On that March night in 1989 when the Exxon Valdez hit Bligh Reef in the Prince William Sound, the BP group had, in fact, not a lick of boom there. And Alyeska had fired the Natives who had manned the full-time response teams, replacing them with phantom crews, lists of untrained employees with no idea how to control a spill. And that containment barge at the ready was, in fact, laid up in a drydock in Cordova, locked under ice, 12 hours away.

As a result, the oil from the Exxon Valdez, which could have and should have been contained around the ship, spread out in a sludge tide that wrecked 1,200 miles of shoreline.
And here we go again. Valdez goes Cajun.

BP's CEO Tony Hayward reportedly asked, "What the hell did we do to deserve this?"

It's what you didn't do, Mr. Hayward. Where was BP's containment barge and response crew? Why was the containment boom laid so damn late, too late and too little? Why is it that the US Navy is hauling in 12 miles of rubber boom and fielding seven skimmers, instead of BP?

Last year, CEO Hayward boasted that, despite increased oil production in exotic deep waters, he had cut BP's costs by an extra one billion dollars a year. Now we know how he did it.

As chance would have it, I was meeting last week with Louisiana lawyer Daniel Becnel Jr. when word came in of the platform explosion. Daniel represents oil workers on those platforms; now he'll represent their bereaved families. The Coast Guard called him. They had found the emergency evacuation capsule floating in the sea and were afraid to open it and disturb the cooked bodies.

I wonder if BP painted the capsule green, like they paint their gas stations.

Becnel, yesterday by phone from his office from the town of Reserve, LA, said the spill response crews were told they weren't needed because the company had already sealed the well. Like everything else from BP mouthpieces, it was a lie.

In the end, this is bigger than BP and its policy of cheaping-out and skiving the rules. This is about the anti-regulatory mania which has infected the American body politic. While the "tea baggers" are simply its extreme expression, US politicians of all stripes love to attack "the little bureaucrat with the fat rule book." It began with Ronald Reagan and was promoted, most vociferously, by Bill Clinton and the head of Clinton's de-regulation committee, one Al Gore.

Americans want government off our backs ... that is, until a folding crib crushes the skull of our baby; Toyota accelerators speed us to our death; banks blow our savings on gambling sprees; and crude oil smothers the Mississippi.

Then, suddenly, it's, "where was hell was the Government!" Why didn't the government do something to stop it?

The answer is, because government took you at your word they should get out of the way of business, that business could be trusted to police itself. It was only last month that BP, lobbying for new deepwater drilling, testified to Congress that additional equipment and inspection wasn't needed.

You should meet some of these little bureaucrats with the fat rulebooks. Like Dan Lawn, the inspector from the Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation who warned and warned and warned, before the Exxon Valdez grounding, that BP and Alyeska were courting disaster in their arrogant disregard of the rulebook. In 2006, I printed his latest warnings about BP's culture of negligence.

When the choice is between Dan Lawn's rule book and a bag of tea, Dan's my man.

***

This just in: Becnel tells me that one of the platform workers has informed him that the BP well was apparently deeper than the 18,000 feet depth reported. BP failed to communicate that additional depth to Halliburton crews who therefore poured in too small a cement cap for the additional pressure caused by the extra depth. So it blew.

Why didn't Halliburton check? "Gross negligence on everyone's part," says Becnel. Negligence driven by penny-pinching bottom-line squeezing. BP says its worker is lying. Someone's lying here: the man on the platform - or the company that has practiced prevarication from Alaska to Louisiana?

Greg Palast investigated the Exxon Valdez disaster for the Chucagh Native villages of Alaska's Prince William Sound. An expert on corporate regulation, Palast, now a journalist, authored the New York Times bestseller, The Best Democracy Money Can Buy.

Transportation Secretary, Norman Minetta tells 9/11 Commission, chaired by Congressman Lee Hamilton, that Dick Cheney knew the exact flight path of Flight 93 (and did nothing)
03:54 - 3 years ago
Norman Mineta (US Secretary of Transportation) testifies that Dick Cheney was operationally aware of flight 77 as it approached the Pentagon. The government has consistently stated that it did not know the whereabouts of the hijacked aircraft before they crashed. In this video Norman Mineta testifies before the 9/11 Commission that he was present and personally observed VP Dick Cheney in the Presidential Emergency Operating Center tracking the exact position of flight 77 for many miles on its approach to the Pentagon.

Some agenda was going on here. Mineta looks completely creditable and what he says under oath must be true, especially since Cheney never challenged it. Scrambling fighter planes to shoot down a highjacked passenger plane which is being used as a missile against the government is the proper course of action if it is obvious the plane is going to crash into government buildings. For sure, that is the lesser of two evils. The passengers are going to lose their lives either way but shooting the plane down will probably save lives on the ground plus save damage to vital government buildings. So the question is, why was the plane not shot down but instead allowed to crash land into the Pentagon building?

The governments claim that they knew nothing of the wherabouts of the plane until the actual crash is proven to be a lie by this video of Mineta. SO why did the government not shoot the plane down? Someone high up must have cancelled the order to shoot it down. Apparently that someone was not Cheney because he was right there with Mineta and even barked that no one had cancelled out the initial command. The only one to have the authority to change the order to shoot the plane down then appears to be Bush. I do not think any military officer could take it upon his own authority to cancel a Bush/Cheney order on his own. No one was court marshalled for doing so. This is a real objective piece of evidence against Bush. What can I say!

Yeh, I don't know/recall the details of the patent situation. If my memory serves correctly on this relatively unimportant little issue, I think they each got parts of the scene patented. Hubbard's patent was on the notion of reinforcing the "read" by way of a double feedback loop on the drop of resistance.

Volnay's may well have been on the basic premise and design of the instrument and its use.

But here again, Hubbard screwed up. You see, by reinforcing ONLY the drop of resistance value, he obscured the more important RISE READS and in particular the Reverse Rocket Reads.

It is to be noted that the subject/issue of "rise reads" is totally omitted from Scn tech . . . . and what a sabotage of an important tech point it is!!!

The dishonesty of the man is again demonstrated by this.

As to him helping us . . . . yes, Adolph Hitler too also help some folks . . . he actually wrought an economic "miracle" with the re-building of Germany after the great depression and Germany's hyper-inflation . . . but it was all toward the end and effort to be so destructive.

Con men and the deceitfully evil all have to appear to help, and have to appear to be good and trustworthy in order to get their "thing" of evil done.

Hell, the exemplar of this phenomena is our politicians . . . they promise and appear to be "good" and helpful, but how many of them actually are and do deliver good and help?:grouch:

So, on analysis, my view of it all is that Hubbard was innately evil in his doings, but that in order to do his thing and be followed he had to present a something that had folks believe in him. And to be honest, I'm glad he lived and gave to the world the good that he did deliver.

It's just such a shame he was warped and didn't go all the way and do an honest job of his good . . . then he would have been worthy of the reverence some still hold him in. Instead the good and helpfulness he provided has been sullied by his actual evil.

Yes, Rog, my current view coincides with yours.

Rog, my current view coincides with your 100%. To dominate men and women, you must first gain their trust and do something for them, give them something which can better there life. Whatever good, we got following Hubbard was quickly turned against us to the goal of gaining our money and labor with almost no exchange in return. After that point, individual beings are damaged being belief and left on the scrap heap to die.

Hitler, as evil as he was, did help create the Volkswagen and also bring the Autobahn to Germany and get the country back to work and restore national pride for 12 years. The world is probably better off with Hubbard having lived. The world is much much worse off with Hitler having lived.

The real shame with Hubbard is that he had certain abilities which are needed to forward a worlwide betterment activity. People who have what it takes to change the world do not come along very often. He was such a person. Had he proceeded with total truth and honesty, it is hard to conceive how far he might have got. Most of us here on ESMB would have worked our tails off to forward his movement. He had access to a lot of power and he just wasted it in pursuit of his various Hobby Horses.

I agree with you on this Rog except for your use of the term "evil". I attribute much of Hubbard's reputed "evil" to the likelihood of his suffering a lifelong mental illness and thereby being unstable & frequently irrational.

I'm not a believer in "evil". That is too moralistic a concept for me to accept. To me it makes a great deal more sense that individuals are acting to promote what they see as somehow "good". The conflict which is described as "evil" arises from warped & mistaken perspectives resulting from adherence to irrationalities & ignorance.

For me "evil" does not exist.

Hell, as much as I dislike him, I don't even see Dick Cheney as evil, merely criminally insane.

Marty Rathbun has an article up on his site about videoed Sec Checks he did on Tom Cruise in ’01 & ‘02. The upshot of it is that Da Monster had ordered the Sec Checks Vidioed without TC’s knowledge and Marty went along with it as all OK because it was needed by the CS to ensure Marty was giving TC “Correct Tech”. Of course Marty, always the hero, eventually refuses to continue the videos sessions (after 2+ months) as they were, in his view, “unethical”. The article concludes with Marty dropping the bomb shell that Da Monster was playing the TC Sec Check videos for his aggrandizement and sharing TC’s O/W’s with his drinking buddies.

The Indies are all posting on his board their, “Shock! Outrage! Revulsion!” (and there should be), at Marty’s disclosure and validating Marty for, “standing up for his PC”. Now, frankly, I’m all for Rathbun and Scientology “Lite”—for many it is a very efficacious step on the “Bridge From Total Slavery”.

However, just between us exes, here’s the rest of the story as old Face here sees it.

Marty and many of his "former Insider” bunch know full well that there are “Highly Confidential” briefing tapes wherein El Ron rips, ridicules and reviles leading Scn Staff and Field in general and wherein Hisself mocks, in specific detail, some of their cases.

Marty and many of his "former Insider” bunch know full well that the Videod Sec Checks became a “tool of choice” of the CMO in the very early '80’s to shake people down, get the “goods” on them and for their own personal viewing pleasure.

I had the pleasure of having one of those Videod CMO "Specials" when they went after me. After days and days and days of virtually nothing coming up (honest Injun) I finally stood up, cans in hand, and addressed the camera directly saying, “Whatever TF your looking for good luck. I’ve got clean hands so go ahead and Fng just bust me and get it over with! What you're doing is wrong and you’re making a big mistake but I know you don’t Fng care!” What happened next is another story for another time. I know for a fact that my “session” data was “passed around” in the CMO. Stuff like, "this guy was so theetie/wheetie and crimm we couldn't get anything to read." And, how do I know it for a fact? Because Da Monster Hisself personally chided and bragged to me about it as part of the CMO "Op" to break me.

So, like I said, I’m all for Scn “Lite” and Marty and his cohorts are probably the right guys to lead it as they are, IMO, the lowest gradient step away from the "Church" and its' Schizoid relationship with honesty, humanity and truth.

Master of Disaster
I never heard Lincoln's death was part of a conspiracy before.

After the war, Lincoln's attitude was that the South should be treated kindly and the wounds of the war allowed to heal. There were others who felt the South should be looted to pay the costs of the war. Lincoln stood in the way of that plan.

While I don't know about any conspiracy, a motive was there for one.

Things got insane and nuts, as I have said, when he denied to us all that the own goals GPMs we had been processing were not our own, but implants. This is the end of April 1963. He later recanted, half-heartedly appologized and acknowledged that in fact own goals GPMs do exist (in Feb. 1964). Too late the damage was done, and he never revisited that correct line of research.

You've only got to read Mystic's comments on Alan's "Opening Pandora's Box" thread to see how stupid, damaging and irresponsible that stunt by Hubbard was.

It was here that things began to get more and more dicey, and folks began to start dropping off the lines. I remember looking, in 1970, at how many of the 1st 100-200 "true" Clears had dropped off the lines.

Realize the carrot of the next secret OT level that we need to do was always dangling out there ahead to do, and the proposition was that that is the answer to our case!!!

I'm thinking that a large part of what was going on came from Hubbard's desire for power.

Freely available knowledge did not enhance his power -- he needed information that was "confidential", tech that he could control and threaten to withhold from people who did not bow to him. If all he had was info that was not under his exclusive control, info that he could not sue people for trying to reveal, then anybody who got fed up with him could open their own shop, and people would go to whoever delivered the best results.

So we get the confidential Clearing Course, then OT III, NOTs, OT VIII -- all big mysteries that you had to be in good standing to find out about.
