Can You Be a Christian Scientologist? (Juliette Lewis Says YES in New Interview)

Just saw this....

I just like to call myself a Christian. It has a cool sound to it and, besides, it gets people off my case.

So, don't invalidate my religion, Christianity. I feel good about it.

ps: Mark Baker confirmed for me that there is no difference between being a Christian and not being a Christian. I didn't understand what he was talking about-- but he will be glad to explain it to you with a free admonition to look inward at your own mental defects for having asked.

Okay! Now I get it. So, if you just call yourself a Christian even though you are totally opposed to everything Christianity, then you can be a Christian and a Scientologist at the same time because, Scientology opposes Christianity too. Logical. I feel better now.

Whew! :melodramatic: I thought we would never arrive here at this brilliant conclusion. Thank you Scientology Celebrity for translating for Mark :coolwink:

Fine. I was going by your last post. And haven't read all your posts on this thread. Perhaps I shouldn't have responded to your post, since you're in grudge mode. I'd rather not have any part of your grudge mentality at this time. Let's try to avoid each other. OK?
I have no grudge mode/mentality, you're projecting again!
Feel free to avoid/ignore me if you so desire. :D

Her beliefs are HERS.

What YOU choose to believe is up to you. The fact that you are apparently fixated on the wrongness of HER beliefs says a great deal more about your own state of mind than it does about hers.

Think about it.

NOTHING in the Code of a Scientologist, the Creed, or the tech dictionary definition of a scientologist require conformity with the beliefs or views of L. Ron Hubbard. Arguably the most suppressive aspect of church practices has been the perpetuation that such is required.

I never agreed to LRH as ultimate arbiter. I do not see a need to accept LRH's opinions in order to personally benefit from gains in auditing at ANY level of the scientology bridge. Ergo, I see no reason to suggest that anyone else MUST conform their own views to coincide with Hubbard's in all things.

If a person wants to be a christian scientologist it matters nought to me if he is on Grade 0 or a completion on OT VIII.

<SNIP>

What Ms. Lewis chooses to believe is for her to decide.

In your very verbose and philosophically correct argument you are only missing one piece; the facts of today's CofS, thus making your posts virtually unreadable to anyone who does know them.

While in your world it's OK if a Scio is a Christian, the plain and simple truth is that doesn't constitute reality as it is practiced in the CofS now.

Juliet IS NOT stating her belief, she is unloading her PR script as taught to Scios in the catechism in the back of DM's Scientology handbook. All Scios are expected to represent the cult as ordained in that text.

She, particularly as a celeb is required to represent the cult and she would have been groomed within an inch of her life.

Your argument is way off the mark, your "givens" are not given.

Oh, yeah, she is at least clear, I was at her graduation in 1993 at Flag. I don't know what she's done since.

I had to look up Juliette Lewis on Wikipedia. This is a Scientology 'celebrity' nowadays? Wow. Not exactly up there with John Travolta, is she? It turns out I own exactly one film that she appeared in: National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

We can dispense with the claims of a C-list 'celebrity' and known cult spokeshole if you like, but the underlying question is nothing new... and the underlying question is flawed.

This appeared on OCMB back in 2006, and probably before that, too. The flawed question is:

Is Scientology compatible with other religions?

And the problem is the presence of the word "other". What's it doing there? This just perpetuates the scam that began almost sixty years ago, when somebody reminded a middle-aged madman that he didn't have a license to practice medicine.

Religion? No. I think the Australian government's "cult like organisation" comes closest.

You're joking, right? She's very well known and has been in a lot of movies, some of which were hits.

And, she does Christian Rock too!!

Huh?

You mean that I believe what I wrote as oppposed to your version of why she said what she said?

Not sure what you mean.

There is no basis for your denial of her profession of faith other than as an expression of your own belief.

:p

I’m not sure how to segue into this, so I’ll just come out and ask. You’re a Scientologist, right?

I am, yeah.

Do you celebrate Christmas? I’ve never been sure about that. Does Christmas count as a Scientology holiday?

Oh yeah. We absolutely celebrate Christmas.

So you have a tree with ornaments and eggnog and presents and Christmas carols that aren’t about Xenu?

I’m a Christian! I think there’s so much confusion because people don’t understand a religion where you can be another religion but you can still practice Scientology. That’s why it’s completely progressive. It’s just tools for living. It’s about understanding one’s self and others and compassion and how to communicate better and how to live in this troubled society. It’s really basic, common sense stuff. It has nothing to do with all this funny folklore that surrounds it. You could be a Jewish Scientologist or a Buddhist Scientologist or a Christian Scientologist or anything else.

Do you believe your ancestors were reincarnated aliens?

That’s not been a part of my experience, no. (Laughs.)

So... you don’t believe you came from aliens?

I was thinking about where that idea came from, and I was like, “Oh, maybe it’s because [L. Ron] Hubbard was a successful science fiction writer, so they’re confusing his science fiction with his other studies that have nothing to do with science fiction.” It’s like you thinking I might punch somebody in the face because I played somebody who punched somebody in the face in a movie.

That’s actually a pretty good analogy. I wasn’t expecting that.

I’m used to misconceptions. And honestly, I don’t care to explain Scientology to people. You can investigate it on your own. It’s not that difficult. There are Web sites and all sorts of resources. The one thing that troubles me is when rumor becomes hatred and prejudice towards a group of people. That’s when it becomes scary, when you have people trying to take away other people’s right to practice a religion of your own choosing.

You’re taking all the fun out of mocking Scientology.

My experience is, there’s nothing alarming or inhibitive about Scientology. I don’t find it judgmental. I can’t speak for somebody else’s experience. It’s just my own.

Not correct Mark.

In today's CofS as part of the PTS SP course each student is drilled on the catechism until they can paraphrase the CORRECT answer to any question about the cult.

I'll continue to discuss this after you've read or had a look at the catechism or the checksheet, until then you're just spouting uninformed opinion.

The woman says she is a christian. There is nothing to discuss about it.

All of which makes the continuance of the thread by those who must, in accordance with their own belief systems, "have" that she is NOT a christian more than slightly ridiculous. It's rather reminiscent of the old heresy trials of the catholic church but where this time apostates are putting "believers" on trial. :eyeroll:

And, you say you're a Scientologist
And, Ron said he's a nuclear physicist
And, Richard Nixon said 'I am not a crook'
And, Nkombo Bmgwana says he wants to give me $37 million and calls me 'my dear'.

Believe what you want. I was drilled on the same drill and I think Veda's post re quoting it puts it into perspective.

How come it's okay that she calls ALL Scientologists Christians? Like here, the interviewer says, "Do you celebrate Christmas? I’ve never been sure about that. Does Christmas count as a Scientology holiday?

Juliette: Oh yeah. We absolutely celebrate Christmas. "

How does she know that? :confused2: I guess she's just pretty OT. Oh well. I guess she can talk about others' beliefs. Makes sense.

..And OJ says he's not a Murderer
And Clinton says he: 'did not have sexual relations with that woman'
:eyeroll:
